The Forest Park Public Library will repatriate a collection of Potawatomi artifacts back to a museum operated by the tribe, after the pottery shards, stone axes and spear
points were removed from Potawatomi burial mounds once located on what is now Forest Home Cemetery. The library’s board of trustees voted unanimously to repatriate the collection to the Forest County Potawatomi Cultural Center, Library and Museum in Wisconsin at a meeting on July 15. The Potawatomi Cultural Center is an
organization focused on preserving the tribe’s history and culture. “These items are of significant cultural value to the tribal community from which they came,” said Pilar Shaker, library See POTAWATOMI on page 14

On July 4, more than 20,000 people filled a stadium in Kigali, Rwanda to commemorate Liberation Day, when the Rwandan Patriotic Army captured the country’s capital, prompting an end to the three-month-long slaughter of up to 1 million Tutsis who were murdered in 1994 at the hands of the ruling Hutu elite. In the crowd, Micah Baker, a 17-year-old incoming senior at Proviso Math and Science Academy, stood in awe less than 20 feet away from Rwandan President Paul Kagame as native performers sang and danced.
