Triton hire is ‘concerning,’ says faculty union
Trustees did not post open position for administrator By MICHAEL ROMAIN

he recent appointment of a new highlevel administrator at Triton College has drawn the ire of the college’s faculty union and sparked a debate about the institution’s commitment to diversifying its administrative ranks and tackling chronic issues like low graduation rates among students of color. During a regular meeting on Jan. 22, the Triton College Board of Trustees appointed Sue Campos vice president of Academic Af Affairs. Campos, who previously served as dean of Health Careers at the college, will replace Debra Baker, the outgoing Academic Affairs vice president who recently announced her retirement, effective May 31. The appointment, officials with the Triton College Faculty Association said, marks at least the second time that the board has hired someone to fill the critical position without conducting a search process or posting the position publicly — actions the board president said are within the rights of the college’s president. SECOND TIME’S THE CHARM: Harris narrowly lost the mayor’s race in 2015.
Harris runs again, outlines platform
Former commissioner and mayoral candidate also ran for state rep By NONA TEPPER Staff Reporter
Chris Harris is running for Forest Park’s highest office again, outlining for the first time to the Forest Park Review his platform of long-term planning, economic development and public engagement in the village. “I ran four years ago because I thought

the village could be doing better. We were lacking in economic development, things had kind of stalled, the sales tax revenue was always running lower than expected, and village finances had been in the red,” Harris said. “I think it takes some creative thinking and it still needs to be done. Things I’ve been concerned about for years in this town still need attention. I had people asking me to run and it’s in my heart. I
want to be mayor.” When he first entered the race, Harris submitted nominating petitions for both the mayor’s office and commissioner spot. He said he was convinced to run for mayor after Mayor Anthony Calderone announced he would not be seeking his sixth term come April.
