Laser Queen
Freddie Mercury and his bandmates in Queen get their intergalactic due at the Cernan Earth and Space Center on the campus of Triton College, 2000 Fifth Ave. in River Grove, on Saturday, Jan. 8 from 8:30 to
9:30 p.m.
The latest Cosmic Light Show is titled “Laser Queen” and features a 13-song playlist littered with Queen’s greatest hits and guaranteed to “have you lip syncing and playing air guitar throughout the show,” according to the organizers.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for kids and seniors, and free for Triton College students, faculty and sta .
Marvel Comics club
If the Marvel movie fan in your life is looking to get caught up on the comics but doesn’t know where to begin, this session at the Forest Park Public Library, 7555 Jackson Blvd., is a good place to start.
Middle-grade students are invited to the library on Friday, Jan. 7 from 4 to 5 p.m. for a chance to explore new books or “geek out together” at the MG Marvel Comics Club, which meets on the rst Friday of every month for discussion, reading, drawing and more.

Calendars and champagne

Act fast to join the latest tasty sip and craft class at the Park District of Forest Park, 7501 Harrison St., on Wednesday, Jan. 5 from 7 to 9 p.m.
Attendees age 21 and older will work to create their own custom calendars to kick o 2022, all while drinking French 75s, which the park district describes as a champagne twist on the classic Tom Collins.
Tickets are $30 per person. Supplies are provided, including wine and nonalcoholic drinks.

Aventura Storytime with special guest
Trek on over to the Forest Park Public Library for a special bilingual storytime featuring special guest performers from Little Parade on Friday, Jan. 7 from
10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
This session is recommended for kids age 5 and under, and will be held in the library’s Austin Room at 7555 Jackson Blvd. Guests are limited to one adult per child and all adults are asked to remain masked and maintain a safe social distance because the young children participating are ineligible to be vaccinated.
Little Parade is a Chicago-based early childhood music class that o ers virtual and in-person classes. More information is available at littleparademusic.com.

Winter bird walk
Kick o the weekend with some “bird feeder action,” then grab your binoculars and hit the woods at this event hosted by the Trailside Museum of Natural History, 738 Thatcher Ave. in River Forest, on Saturday, Jan. 8 at
8:30 a.m.
Preregistration is required by calling 708-366-6530. Binoculars are available for those who don’t provide their own.
All visitors age 2 and older must wear a mask indoors, regardless of vaccination status.


Hoops for the holidays
The Proviso East girls basketball team fell 50-33 to Oak Park and River Forest High School at the Morton College Christmas Tournament in Cicero on Dec. 30.
