uring my decade-and-a-half tenure at the helm of WedLuxe, I’ve had the opportunity to journey across the globe, experience extraordinary hotels and venues firsthand, and attend numerous professional wedding industry conferences spanning cities across North America, UK, Europe, and the Caribbean. I’ve met and forged enduring relationships with the world’s top event professionals—enormously talented “magic makers” who transform wedding dreams into extraordinary reality and are featured daily on WedLuxe platforms.

Over ten years ago in Grand Cayman, I met two such magic makers, Kara and Harlan of The Travel Siblings®, at an industry dinner, and we became fast friends. This dynamic duo have a stellar reputation as some of the most renowned romance travel experts in the world, boasting a clientele that includes A-list wedding planners and Hollywood celebrities. Over the years, we shared many more meals until, one day, the topic of a potential collaboration arose. As they say, the rest is history.

YOU JOINED THE ATELIER AS DESIGN DIRECTOR AND CREATIVE DIRECTOR IN 2017. WHAT FIRST DREW YOU TO DESIGNING FOR BRIDAL, AND HOW DO YOU APPROACH THIS DIFFERENTLY FROM SHOE DESIGN?

“The process of making clothes is, of course, different from making shoes. Shoes are more complicated as they require molds/lasts and are less fluid than dresses. However, the design principles are the same. I took the same approach when designing shoes to design dresses. If you understand design principles, you can design almost anything and not be confined to only one area. The main thing is to transfer your inspiration which translates your inner thoughts into the designs which culminate into actual products, which in this case, are dresses.”

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT YOUR ROLE AT THE ATELIER?

“I love being able to apply my shoe designing skills in designing clothes. It was very challenging at first but it has become a natural part of me now. Seeing how my fans react to my dress designs further motivates me to keep designing. THE ATELIER too, has a very capable and extremely creative team.”

In 2001, renowned designer Professor Jimmy Choo sold his namesake footwear brand—he founded the brand Jimmy Choo in 1986 and shot to fame after being discovered by a Vogue editor. He has continued to create bespoke shoes for private clients under his Chinese name (and new label), Zhou Yang Jie. Professor Choo has been awarded numerous accolades, including the appointment of Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) by Queen Elizabeth II for his contribution to British fashion. Now, he leads as the creative director for THE ATELIER, a couture bridalwear line that debuted at Shanghai Fashion Week 2017 with “The Stars,” collection. THE ATELIER gowns are crafted by his couture team in Kuala Lumpur and Shanghai and feature exquisite hand-embroidery and architectural tailoring. He founded JCA London Fashion Academy which opened its doors in September, 2021, and has been inspiring the next generation of fashion entrepreneurs and innovators ever since.

WHAT DESTINATIONS ARE POPULAR FOR YOUR CLIENTS THIS YEAR? “Our brides are usually well travelled and tend to choose international destinations as wedding venues. THE ATELIER wedding gowns will be worn at destinations such as NY, Los Angeles, Panama, Shanghai, Beijing, or on Lake Como and of course Kuala Lumpur just to name a few. Their ceremonies are more often than not, opulent affairs.”

ANY WEDDING DRESS TREND PREDICTIONS FOR THE NEXT UPCOMING SEASON? “ THE ATELIER gowns indeed make statements of being strong and romantic at the same time. Lighter gowns with unique details and personalization will be in trend.”

“A wedding is still a very traditional moment and element of our society but has not been immune to changes as per locations, structures, brides visions and experiences. So more and more we see brides that opt for “something new and something blue” choosing gowns with a light color hue that can be blue, silver, gold or champagne. Besides providing an option, blue could also symbolize purity which co-relates with white which is traditionally the colour of choice.”

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO WITH THE DESIGN HOUSE IN THE UPCOMING YEAR?

“We are very excited to further strengthen our presence internationally. We are creating our presence in Paris, NY, Barcelona and on the red carpets of major international events to dress world famous celebrities. And also to launch our RTW collections through our flagship stores.”

“Another recent wedding that I just love is Alison and Jason’s wedding that took place in Malibu, California …SO many details. We rented a private property so we had a blank palette to work with and boy, we filled it with so many moments. We were able to rent a beautiful glass greenhouse tent. We added a lattice entrance and rented a gorgeous green Austin Healy (a British Green that we used to match all items that were green!). We also created a custom built, sunk- in step down black and white dance floor and a custom black and white stripe canopy over the guests’ bar. The bride’s favorite, lily of the valley, was delicately placed within all the flowers.”

WHAT’S BEEN THE MOST UNIQUE FLORAL EXPERIENCE THAT YOU’VE CREATED FOR A CLIENT?

“One particular moment that stands out in my mind was when I was flown to Milan by Lady Gaga. My task was to create giant floral letters spelling out ‘DV’ and surprise Donatella Versace on her birthday. Donatella’s favourite flowers are Gardenias, and through our strategic grower network in Holland, I was able to source thousands of freshly-cut Gardenia flowers to incorporate into the design. This was the ultimate grandiose floral gesture, and the look of shock and surprise on Donatella’s face when she walked into the room is something that will stay with me forever.”

Originally hailing from Ireland, Neill Strain opened his first flower boutique in London’s posh Belgravia neighborhood in 2008, and became one of the pioneers in fashioning grand floral installations for luxury boutique exteriors. “This year’s theme was ‘Into the Wild.’ Our installation at the Belgravia boutique was inspired by a trip I took to the Maldives in January. While on a snorkeling safari, I was struck by the vibrancy of the coral reefs, teeming with life. To my surprise, a turtle came swimming alongside me, and the experience deeply moved me. Glancing off into the distance of the deep blue Indian Ocean at that moment felt very wild to me, and felt very appropriate for the “Into the Wild” theme. Spectators came in droves to see our display, which featured two larger-than-life seahorses, a giant turtle and an angelfish, all enhanced with gorgeous shells, rocks, and plant material utilized for its resemblance to coral life under the ocean.” - NS

WHAT’S A FAVORITE WEDDING DESIGN FROM THE PAST YEAR?

“My favorite has to be from a recent spring wedding we did for a British-Scottish couple living in Hong Kong.

They chose London as their destination and decided to split the day into two parts.

First, a church wedding followed by a lunch at the MANDARIN ORIENTAL HOTEL LONDON . It was a modern spring decor with tables dressed in green topiaries and seasonal yellow daffodils. TABLE DESIGN EXHIBITION -ISTANBUL CAPITAL OF CELEBRATIONS

In 2022, Meltem dreamt up, co-founded, planned and hosted the first annual Table Design Exhibition—Istanbul Capital of Celebrations along with fellow Turkish event industry powerhouse, Elmas Özler of Bluechip Creative Productions.

Held at Raffles Istanbul, the highly publicized collaborative event brought together some of the world’s top international event planners and designers, who each presented a unique Istanbul-themed table design.

The second edition event will take place October 31 through November 2, 2023, at Hilton İstanbul Bosphorus Hotel and will include panel sessions, keynote speakers and international judges.

THE SARAH HAYWOOD CORONATION EXPERIENCE

To mark the Coronation of King Charles III, Sarah Haywood of Sarah Haywood Weddings & Celebrations invited a dozen colleagues from around the world to join a series of curated events, alongside UK event professionals, showcasing the “Best of British”: from the talent behind the events themselves to the food and beverages, flowers and entertainment alongside. International guests were hosted by The Londoner: a recently opened five-star hotel in the heart of London's West End. The event highlights of the four-day experience included “The Coronation Celebration” at Claridge’s on the eve of the King’s crowning, “The King’s Procession Brunch” at The Dorchester, and a “Coronation Dinner in honor of His Majesty The King” at the Royal Academy of Arts.

Coronation Eve Celebration at Claridge’s Hotel

For Coronation Eve, Sarah Haywood and her creative partners, NEILL STRAIN FLORAL COUTURE and WISE PRODUCTIONS, wanted a beautiful and symbolic representation of the occasion. As guests arrived at CLARIDGE’S, they were greeted with a stunning, handcrafted “Crown Bar” inspired by the Saint Edward's Crown, as used to coronate King Charles III the next day. Using the official Coronation logo, Neill adorned the bar with the flowers associated with the event. Crafted from willow and covered with seasonal flowers and British foliage, the Crown Bar’s floral design gave a nod to British folklore symbolic of spring and rebirth. It featured a range of emblematic flowers, including those representing the four nations of the United Kingdom: daffodils, thistle, roses, and shamrock, in addition to clover, lily of the valley, rosemary, and other wildflowers.

Inspired Dining

Sarah and floral designer Neill Strain were keen to pay homage to CLARIDGE'S ballroom's rich history and Art Deco style within the table design. The hotel’s traditional logo and iconic peppermint green color were the inspiration, alongside a copper-pink mirror relief in the ballroom. To mimic the copper mirror element, a custom copper-colored mirror-topped, 65-ft-long table was created and installed by WISE PRODUCTIONS. Tall glass cylinders filled with floral arrangements of peonies, sweet peas, calla lilies, anthuriums, Phalaenopsis orchids, and delphiniums, alongside rose petals and perfect Vanda orchids, delicately completed the table design. Neill’s team also crafted floral statement panels along one side of the room for a genuinely immersive floral experience.

The team from CLARIDGE’S carefully curated the celebration menu to include fresh, seasonal produce from around the United Kingdom. It was important to Sarah and the team to know the provenance of the food. Guests enjoyed Exmoor caviar, asparagus from St Enodoc in Cornwall and the Vale of Evesham, Berwick Edge Cheese from Northumberland, Scottish lobster, beef from North Ireland, black truffle from Wiltshire, Jersey Royal new potatoes and Welsh leeks from Pembrokeshire.

Mirrored-copper menus were designed and produced by RUTH KAYE DESIGN, while entertainment was provided by ALR MUSIC.

The King’s Procession Brunch at The Dorchester

On the morning of the Coronation, the group was hosted by THE DORCHESTER for a proper British brunch complete with English cheeses and popular British favorites including rhubarb and strawberry trifle. The hotel was draped in the same royal regalia that adorned the building’s façade to mark the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953.

Guests were greeted at the sweeping entrance staircase by a stunning floral installation by NEILL STRAIN FLORAL COUTURE. A color palette of the Crown Jewels; emerald, sapphire, amethyst, ruby, and topaz, and flowers and plants inspired by the garden at Highgrove, the beloved country home of the King and Queen, were the centerpiece of the event design. This drew the eye to a central alcove where the staircase split where Neill recreated in flowers the Sovereign’s Orb and Sovereign’s Sceptre, seen earlier in the day at the heart of the Coronation service. The orb and sceptre represent the Crown’s power and governance and have been used in the coronation of every British monarch since 1661 when they were created for the coronation of King Charles II.

Artistic Dining

Guests dined beneath THE ROYAL ACADEMY ’s breathtaking Renaissance copy of Leonardo da Vinci’s Last Supper with another gorgeous display of lush florals by NEILL STRAIN FLORAL COUTURE. The overall design drew inspiration from the artwork in the room, but crucially including the color scheme found in the Last Supper and including the clothing, the grapevines, and the citrus fruit on the tables. Sarah chose a bold, teal-colored chair, as seen in the clothing depicted in the painting. Everyone was nervous (except her!) that it would work: but it did!

The event was catered by BUBBLE FOOD with beverages by HOLY WATER. Again, guests enjoyed food from across the British Isles, culminating in a creative dessert presentation of the Last Supper. Chef Jens Nisson created the dessert within a box frame: the rice paper edible replica of the masterpiece was designed to be smashed through to uncover the dessert of Scottish raspberry petals with Tonka bean ganache and vanilla sponge. British sparkling wine house NYETIMBER provided a paring of the first ever Prestige Cuvée made in England, their 1086. Adam McVay, the founder of specialist drinks service Holy Water, delighted guests with original cocktails. His “God Save the King” is a surefire favorite for Summer 2023: Aperitif Bramble Vermouth, cherry Amaro, and clarified rhubarb.

Natalie Workman and Brandon Dawson were married in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. The powerhouse entrepreneurial duo also work together, having co-founded Cardone Ventures with their internationally-renowned business partner, friend (and wedding guest!) Grant Cardone. In addition to their beachside wedding, their fun-filled wedding weekend featured a pink-themed ladies’ night, an evening of tequila tasting for the men, a welcome party with an all-white theme, and a farewell brunch.

The WEDDING DAY

When initially dreaming up an ideal plan for the couple’s ceremony design, the team from COUNTDOWN EVENTS knew they wanted the couple to be “perfectly framed” without obstructing the spectacular ocean view. So, in collaboration with floral and event decor duo Carlos and Elena Damy of ELENA DAMY, the group created a perfect design that featured a transparent acrylic structure topped with all-white fresh florals.

The couple’s friend, Buck Wise, Chief Marketing Officer at CARDONE VENTURES , officiated the ceremony.

“Chileno Beach Club is our home away from home so it is a special place for us. We were grateful to be able to celebrate such an important day on this beach with all of our friends and family.”

The couple’s first look on the day of the wedding took place on a rocky promontory overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

The wedding party consisted of dear friends and family, including Grant and Elena Cardone, whose daughters Scarlett and Sabrina served as flower girls. Also in the group were Canadian business mogul Jim Treliving and his wife Sandi, globe-trotting speaker Seth Mattison and his Emmy Award-winning wife, Kristen, candy mogul Brian Gold and wife Linda, and philanthropists Bart and Linda Wear. Katelyn Leonard and Brandon’s brother, Josh Dawson, the Sr. Director of Market Development at CARDONE VENTURES rounded out the accomplished group.

OCEANSIDE Oasis

The reception was also held outdoors, on a plot of land overlooking the ocean. Event planners Soha Lavin and Jenny de Jong of COUNTDOWN EVENTS recognized from the get-go that the reception should be spectacular to match the view, yet not overpower the naturally beautiful sight lines. With that in mind, a plein-air “venue” was built from the ground up! Custom flooring and a stage were both installed, along with palm trees, specially planted within the area to finish off the custom environment.

The mirrored-surface head table was framed by a dramatic, oversized custom-designed white arch. The design by COUNTDOWN EVENTS was achieved with the help of local vendors (including a team of engineers). The striking yet simple tabletop design featured hundreds of singlestemmed white roses in individual bud vases. Chandeliers hung from above, suspended in a floral installation. Along with an abundance of candles, the effect was dreamy and dramatic. The floral design was provided by ELENA DAMY with furniture and event rentals from DEL CABO WEDDINGS.

“We had decals of our monogram made and etched onto glassware,” notes Natalie.

For dessert, guests were served individual cakes on their own miniature pedestals. The couple also had an oversized all-white wedding cake for the ceremonial cake cutting.

MOUNTAIN MAGIC ROCKY

Linh and Christopher Howard exchanged wedding vows not once, but twice. They first (officially) tied the knot in 2021 in Vail, Colorado during an intimate microwedding with just their parents and a handful of friends in attendance. 363 days later, the couple exchanged vows for the second time during a high-altitude, highstyle weekend of wedding celebrations held at The Little Nell in Aspen, Colorado.

How THEY MET

Linh and Christopher were “strictly platonic” colleagues for an entire year before getting to know each other on a personal level in March of 2020 during the onset of Covid-19 lockdowns.

Linh had purchased a large air purifier for her home, but the wrong unit was delivered. Needing to return it, yet being the owner of a small sedan, she asked her work colleagues if anyone happened to have a larger car to help her with the task. As fate would have it, Christopher lived in her neighborhood and came to her rescue with his F150 truck.

Soon after that, a friendship began to develop between the two when they began a nightly routine of walking together and found themselves discussing everything from investments to global news. Yet, “...it was nothing romantic,” notes Linh.

Eventually, their evening walks led to casual dinners until one night things heated up considerably when Chris came over to Linh’s house with a dose of liquid courage and asked her for a date. “He had been drinking with his best friend all day, talking about asking me out! So I said yes, I would give it a go,” laughs Linh.

The PROPOSAL

In March of 2021 (one full year after Chris first came to Linh’s rescue with his truck), the pair were engaged in Vail, Colorado during a second fateful ride. This time, Christopher had arranged a romantic dog sledding excursion.

“I was petting the huskies and when I turned around, Chris was on his knees and pulled out a ring!” remembers Linh.

“He had a whole script but I was in such shock that I didn’t even hear what he was saying. All I said was “Here? Now?” When I came to my senses, I said, ‘YES!’ as all the other riders were looking and clapping.” Knowing Linh’s appreciation for photography, Christopher had also arranged for a professional photographer to capture the entire proposal for posterity.

THE RING

After getting a sense from Linh as to her “potential” ring preferences, Chris burned the midnight oil researching and learning about diamonds. “In the end, I learned that he flew his little plane to Florida to pick up the engagement ring in secret and then had dinner with me that same night. I had no clue!” says Linh.

THE INVITATIONS

SWEET ZION PAPERIE designed a beautiful invitation suite with a subdued color palette and natural wood tones, reminiscent of the interior of an Aspen tree. The design also gave homage to the bride’s love of Danish furniture design with wooden wave shapes placed inside the sleeve of the set. The couple’s wedding destination was also celebrated with the inclusion of small, engraved Aspen leaves (made from actual Aspen wood). The leaves were infused with a signature scent of jasmine, roses, and cotton notes as a nod to Linh’s Vietnamese culture and the smells of beautiful Vietnam.

WHAT THEY WORE

Linh wore the Mia wedding gown by GALIA LAHAV and a pair of soft-blue embroidered heels by SOMETHING BLUE. Chris wore a classic black tux with a black bow tie, made by SUITSUPPLY.

ASPEN EXPERIENCE

“We knew most of our guests had never been to Aspen or Colorado. We wanted them to experience the nature that we both so adore through hikes, walks, and other outdoor activities,” shares Linh. “In the end, that was exactly what we got—everyone enjoying each other’s company and a picture-perfect day on the wedding day itself.”

CELEBRATING Spring AT HIGH ALTITUDE

With the celebrations taking place during the height of spring, destination wedding planner Aimee Monihan of DESTINATION OCCASIONS and floral designer Liz of SILOH FLORAL knew that the event should exude the delicate vibe of the season. Linh agreed and wanted the ceremony to have lightness, much like a garden coming alive in spring. The scent was also important to her to remind guests of the location and the time of year.

SUSTAINABLE APPROACH

To achieve the desired Spring-like effect, SILOH FLORAL, (known for its very organic and sustainable approach to design), wanted to use blossoming branches to celebrate the time of year and location-specific flora. However, the week before the wedding, Colorado got a huge snowstorm and many of the planned branches no longer were available so a shift in design took place at the last minute. The team switched gears and opted for hundreds of lilac branches that had not been affected by the frost and snow.

“For most of the ceremony, I kept my eyes on Chris,” says Linh. “But, I do remember my event planner, Aimee Monihan, telling me to take it all in so I turned and looked to my left at the mountain landscape and listened to the rustling leaves all around. It was such a special moment.”

COZY ATMOSPHERE

The guests (and the flower girls, pictured above) kept warm with cozy blankets that were thoughtfully placed on each chair.

“Nothing can describe the ‘wow factor’ when I stepped onto the path to walk down the aisle with my father. It was just so perfectly picturesque — the cool breeze, sunlight breaking through the snow-capped mountains, blue skies with puffy white clouds, and everyone looking at us with big smiles!”

THE CEREMONY

The ceremony was held at THE LITTLE NELL’S WEDDING DECK, also known as “Top of The Mountain.” At 11,212 feet above sea level, the outdoor location offered the couple and their guests a spectacular scenic view.

The RECEPTION

The reception, held inside THE LITTLE NELL’S exclusive private ASPENX MOUNTAIN CLUB , was the first to take place in the space after a fifteen million dollar renovation led by renowned interior designer Luis Bustamante. The remodel features a graphic, red-striped carpet designed in partnership with PRADA’s ski collection (which is sold at the club for its members). The wedding reception was designed to complement the bold and beautiful remodel.

SEASONAL DESIGN Monochromatic seasonal blooms kept the spring theme alive, while the existing (large) lighting installation gave SILOH FLORAL the opportunity to enhance with custom-built gold art pieces that were designed to float above the tables.

DESIGN WITH PURPOSE Gold Chameleon chairs were chosen to mimic the stripes in the carpet, while the linens were chosen for their fun brush strokes of gold, cream, and ice blue.

READ THE ROOM

The escort card station was a mix of the bride’s love of books and bookshelves.

“We wanted to have a fun interactive space that looked a bit like displayed books but a more modern and clean interpretation that would direct all guests to their seating.”

CULINARY COLLABORATION

The bride and groom, self-described foodies, chose THE LITTLE NELL in part because of its reputation for culinary excellence. When it came time to design the menu, Linh closely collaborated with the Chef and the Master Sommelier to create a fivecourse, French-inspired Tasting Menu, complete with a pairing of French wines. “I love eating. I travel to eat. One of my favorite restaurants is a French place called LE BERNADIN in New York, so there is some inspiration from there,” shares Linh. “Each course was taken from various places from where I traveled, but the ingredients were all locally sourced to showcase Colorado.”

HEARTS AGLOW The reception ended with a great dance party though it wrapped up promptly at midnight due to the gondola schedule. Linh and Chris finished the evening by walking through a pathway of sparklers waved by their guests. As the couple boarded the gondola to descend to the city of Aspen below, they knew they had experienced a true “Rocky Mountain high.”

The couple lives in Houston, Texas where Linh works in the energy sector of finance and planning and Christopher is an investment banker.

Alexis and Leo met through mutual friends and dated for five years, their relationship blossoming over summers spent in the South of France. So after Leo proposed, it felt only natural for the couple to return to the French Riviera for their four-day destination wedding extravaganza, where “friends became family.” A beach-themed welcome party kicked things off at Yacht Club de Monaco, followed by a “Vintage Hollywood Glam” rehearsal dinner and vibrant wedding day at Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat, A Four Seasons Hotel. An oceanside lemon tree-themed farewell brunch completed the extraordinary few days.

Emerence Potesta of POTESTA DESIGNS created the entire suite of extraordinary wedding stationery. The original whimsical, French-inspired hand-illustrations and custom monogram played a starring design role across all four days of events and inspired everything from the bride’s wardrobe to the groom’s shoes!

Welcome bags were thoughfully curated and designed by event planners, LAVENDER AND ROSE WEDDINGS.

Bienvenue POOL PARTY

A playful, beach-themed, pastel-infused pool party kicked off the festivities. The event was held at the YACHT CLUB DE MONACO and featured colorcoordinated games, branded touchpoints, delicious cocktails, and immersive entertainment provided by NUART ENTERTAINMENT. Alexis and Leo asked their guests to dress in all-white as a modern homage to the mid-century photographer Slim Aarons, renowned for his iconic beach or poolside images (often in the South of France) in his 1950s heydays.

“The idea was to let the guests dive into a different show and ambiance for each event,” shares event planner Jennifer Rocher of LAVENDER AND ROSE WEDDINGS, who provided event planning and design, same-day coordination, and guest favors for the four-day extravaganza.

WHAT THEY WORE

Alexis was a walking interpretation of the wedding invitation. Her custom gown and matching cape by Texas-based bridal gown designer, ANGELINA MATA , featured hand-painted sculptured flowers fashioned out of silk organza, layered over three shades of pink tulle. The dress was paired with a satin belt and finished with a vintage 1940s rhinestone belt buckle. Leo wore a cream suit paired with a pink button-down shirt and a hand-painted floral handkerchief that matched his bride-to-be’s couture gown. His velvet loafers by BLUSCARPA were customembroidered with the couple’s signature monogram.

DECO DARLINGS

Alexis wore a custom gown reminiscent of the Art Deco period. The sheer tulle dress, designed by ANGELINA MATA , featured a flowy sleeves, high collar and sash with detailed silver beadwork underneath, giving the gown a faceted look. Leo wore a black suit by TOM FORD with CHANEL suspenders, a feather boutonniere, and a feathered bow tie.

Old Hollywood Glam REHEARSAL

DINNER

The rehearsal dinner was held en plein-air, in the lushly landscaped gardens of the THE GRAND-HÔTEL DU CAP-FERRAT, A FOUR SEASONS HOTEL.

The evening was named “La Belle Vie” and designed to evoke a 1920s Vintage Hollywood vibe, a style perfectly befitting the history of the property. Known as the Côte D’Azur’s grand-dame of iconic glamour, the palatial mansion-meets-landmark hotel has been a seaside retreat welcoming guests of distinction since 1908.

“We were lucky enough to have our two close friends perform for us during our rehearsal dinner. Professional recording artist Cris Cab put on an amazing performance with the band, and his sister Eli sang the most moving cover of Adele’s ‘Make You Feel My Love.’”

The WEDDING DAY

BRIDAL BRUNCH at Villa Rose-Pierre

On the morning of the wedding, Alexis and her bridal party enjoyed a beautiful brunch at the sugar-pink, four-bedroom VILLA ROSE-PIERRE, a private villa tucked away among the pines on the grounds of the hotel.

Alexis and Leo were married on June 18, 2022. The ceremony was held en plein-air in the spectacular private gardens of VILLA ROSE PIERRE, GRAND-HÔTEL DU CAPFERRAT, with an endless view overlooking the deep blue Mediterranean Sea. RÊVERIE D’AZUR provided the floral design for the entire wedding.

“Holding my mother’s arm, we walked down the aisle as if strolling through a French garden surrounded by the most beautiful flowers, our family, friends, and loved ones surrounding us. Finally, I reached my now-husband at the end of the aisle, and with my mother’s kiss and blessing, we said ‘I do,’ under a canopy of flowers, the sound of the Mediterranean Sea as the backdrop. It was magical!”

Poolside COCKTAIL HOUR at Villa Rose-Pierre

After the ceremony, the couple and their guests made their way to the exclusive, private pool area at VILLA ROSE-PIERRE. Here, no detail was overlooked, including a fleet of private Mokes (and well-heeled drivers) on hand to provide guests with a fun and easy mode of transportation between celebration locations within the hotel grounds.

THE RECEPTION at Club Dauphin

The dinner reception was held at THE CLUB DAUPHIN, the tony swimming pool area at the GRAND-HÔTEL DU CAP-FERRAT. The deep blue pool and private terrace overlook the Mediterranean Sea and offer panoramic views. The club’s rock wall design offers a natural homage to the dramatic cliffside below.

Jasmiina and recently-retired NHL goaltender Tuukka Rask’s spectacular destination wedding took place in Lake Como, Italy in July of 2022. Three days of celebratory experiences (and FABULOUS fashion!) included a rehearsal dinner at the Grand Hotel Tremezzo followed by a spectacular wedding ceremony and reception at Villa Balbiano. A farewell brunch held at Lido di Lenno Beach Club rounded out the incredible weekend.

LAKE COMO, ITALY

How THEY MET

Jasmiina and now-retired NHL player Tuukka Rask were only seventeen years old when they met for the first time in their native country of Finland. At the time, Tuukka had just moved to Jasmiina’s hometown to pursue his hockey career when a mutual friend introduced them. Six months later, they met for the second time, and their chemistry was undeniable. The young pair began dating and moved in together shortly afterward.

The PROPOSAL

Twelve years later, in 2016, Tuukka surprised Jasmiina with a Christmas Day proposal. Understandably, after dating for twelve years, Jasmiina was nothing less than shocked to find a diamond engagement ring tucked inside a beautiful Christian Dior handbag, one of her Christmas gifts.

“It was a very intimate moment, and it meant the world to me to have my parents and our daughters there to share that special moment with us,” recalls Jasmiina.

A Three-Year GOAL

All three days of wedding experiences were expertly planned and designed by Leandra Svizzero, founder and creative director of event planning firm, EVENTOILE. Svizzero also helped the couple navigate the effects of Covid-19 as it pertained to their wedding over what ended up being a three-year period. During that time, many significant milestones passed in the couple’s life, including the fact that they welcomed a third daughter to their family and that Tuukka retired from his legendary career as a goalie for the Boston Bruins.

“This project was full of important aspects, starting with the fact that we had to postpone two times in three years,” shares Svizzero. “It was a project full of life and emotion, treated in a delicate way to ensure the couple had the best days of their life.”

Rehearsal DINNER

The rehearsal dinner was held at the legendary GRAND HOTEL TREMEZZO, known for its Belle Époque history and scenic location on the shores of Lake Como. The property faces directly onto the village of Bellagio, where the two branches of Lake Como meet against the rose-tinted backdrop of the Grigne mountains. The evening’s decor palette of powder pink and light blue was inspired by the venue.

BRIDAL STYLE

Jasmiina’s wedding wardrobe was a reflection of her innate sense of style. “I love fashion,” she explains. “This was my favorite part of planning the wedding!”

For the rehearsal dinner, she chose a dress by ALEXIA MARÍA that featured a fabulous statement bow at the back. She paired the look with an ASHLEY MCCORMICK clutch and AQUAZZURA Love Link sandals chosen for their name and stunning design.

Jasmiina, her bridal party, and the couple’s three daughters spent a relaxing morning preparing for the day ahead at historic VILLA BALBIANO, where the wedding ceremony and reception took place. Meanwhile, Tuukka and his groomsmen spent the day at GRAND HOTEL TREMEZZO before making their way by boat to VILLA BALBIANO.

Italian Opulence VILLA BALBIANO

Nestled on the shores of Lake Como, the couple’s wedding venue, Villa Balbiano, boasts a rich history as a 16th-century palazzo turned luxury event space. In its historic heyday, the villa hosted elaborate festivals and dances. Today, it remains the largest private Lake Como residence, with sumptuous gardens that guarantee extraordinary photo opportunities. Villa Balbiano’s gardens have even won the Colson Stone, the British Society of Garden Designers’ top honor for historic garden restoration. Beyond the gardens, the villa features a private pier and boathouse. Inside, its historic interiors overflow with fine art and antique furnishings acquired from Sotheby’s and Christie’s auctions. Most notably, 17th century frescoes by the Recchi brothers and Agostino Silva still adorn the walls, their vibrant colors untouched by time. With such pedigree and amenities, it’s easy to see why Villa Balbiano remains one of Lake Como’s most sought-after event venues.

BOSTON-BASED

As a long-time resident of Boston (where Tuukka was goaltender for fifteen seasons with the Boston Bruins), Jasmiina wanted to support a local gown designer. She chose Boston-based BREMELIA, to create her wedding gown.

Lakefront CEREMONY

The wedding ceremony took place on the lakefront garden at VILLA BALBIANO with guests arriving by boat. The dramatic design featured four floral arches made with thousands of blooms by RONI FLORAL DESIGN, who closely collaborated with EVENTOILE on the overall design and decor of the wedding day.

Cruising Through COCKTAIL HOUR

Immediately following the wedding ceremony, the newlyweds boarded a classic wooden boat dubbed a “Venetian Limousine” from COMO CLASSIC BOATS for a sunset portrait session on Lake Como. At the same time, a cocktail hour commenced for guests on the mountain-facing back lawn of VILLA BALBIANO.

The RECEPTION

The reception design was a modern fairytale brought to life with oversized floral chandeliers and canopies of fragrant greenery designed by RONI FLORAL DESIGN. Furniture rentals for the weekend were provided by LATINI DESIGN. LE COPERTURE provided the marquee tent for the reception.

Sparkling chandeliers, spectacular flowers, beautiful table settings, violinists on their platforms playing music, the most magnificent entertainment group playing music under the flashing lights on stage, guests up in their feet dancing and having the time of their lives.”

A GIFT TO REMEMBER

Over the course of planning the wedding, Tuukka retired from his legendary career as a goaltender during which time he played fifteen seasons with the Boston Bruins. As a wedding gift to Tuukka, Jasmiina commissioned a documentary video to highlight his incredible career and the video was projected onto the walls of VILLA BALBIANO . “It was one of the most touching moments of the night, followed by a spectacular fireworks show,” shares Jasmiina.

PARTY MODA

For the first part of the reception, Jasmiina wore the Satiné gown by PALLAS COUTURE — a style she’d fallen in love with at a fitting with the team in New York. She and the team made minor changes during fittings over Zoom, and in the end, it fit just as she’d imagined it would.

“I felt very confident in it and loved how the fabric looked in the pictures. And it was the best dress to dance in!”

Bre from BREMELIA created a short halterneck party dress with an open back for the after-party. “It was a perfect combination of feathers and sparkle,” describes Jasmiina.

That’s Amore FAREWELL BRUNCH

The farewell brunch, held at LIDO DI LENNO BEACH CLUB, featured floral design by CHIARA SPERTI FLORAL EVENTS, and highlighted the couple’s love for Italy. The decor featured bright colors, lemons, and Majolica motifs. Custom tambourines, hats, and towels were offered to guests as keepsakes.

LIVING LA DOLCE VITA

After the wedding, the newlyweds rented a convertible and drove along the scenic Italian coast before stopping at HOTEL LA SIRENUSE . The rest of the honeymoon was enjoyed on a private yacht where the couple visited Capri, sunbathed at the beach clubs, and enjoying delicious Italian cuisine.

LEMON-THEMED

Jasmiina’s first farewell brunch look was a yellow dress by MARKARIAN with bow details on the shoulders reminiscent of the look she wore to the rehearsal dinner. Lemon earrings by NICOLA BATHIE , white CELINE sunglasses, and white satin espadrilles completed the look.

Jasmiina carried the Amalfi Coast Yellow clutch by OLYMPIA LE TAN . When she first came across the bag on their website, she knew it would be the perfect complement to her outfit, but it was sold-out. Taking a chance, she contacted the brand to tell them about her upcoming wedding celebration in Italy. Graciously, they agreed to make one just for her.

DANCING QUEEN

Halfway through the party, Jasmiina changed into a white beach dress by PATBO and a pair of YVES SAINT LAURENT sandals. “They were perfect for the hot weather and dancing!”

estled amidst rolling emerald hills, Ireland’s enchanting Luttrellstown Castle Resort is a sprawling 600-year-old historical gem-turned-luxury resort that beckons you into a fairytale realm. The castle’s exact age is cloaked in the mists of history, but legend has it that Sir Henry Luttrell seized the estate in 1436, during the reign of King Henry VI, establishing an aristocratic dynasty that held dominion over the land for more than three centuries. The castle’s story is also intertwined with the world-famous Guinness family, who wielded their influence over the property from the 1910s to the 1950s, adding an extra layer of grandeur to its already illustrious history. The castle also served as the backdrop for the iconic wedding of David and Victoria Beckham in 1999, adding a touch of modern-day fairytale to its storied past.

EDITOR'S NOTE: When we visited Luttrellstown Castle Resort, our group was instantly mesmerized. Staying in the castle was an experience of a lifetime—after all, it's not every day you have an entire 15th-century castle to yourself! (When you book the castle, it's yours exclusively.) Choosing our individual suites was the first highlight. From “The Duchess of Cumberland” to “The King John,” all twenty of the suites are unique and luxurious. As I peeked into each room, I couldn't help but think, “...If these walls could talk, they would certainly have some incredible tales to tell.” Outside the castle walls was a playground like no other. The impeccably manicured estate grounds seemed endless, including the world-renowned golf course and club house. The Great Irish Outdoors is at its very best here, with the resort offering everything from falconry to an authentic horse and hound experience, the latter of which we were lucky enough to capture. We definitely felt like we had the "luck of the Irish," during our stay, including a perfect fairytale ending, when just moments after completing our last shot of the day, the most extraordinary rainbow appeared like magic over the emerald fields of Luttrellstown Castle. - AD
