Tell us a little bit about yourself — Where do you live? What do you do for a living?

Where did you shop for the pieces you wore to your wedding and the events leading up to it?

I like to think of myself as a very outgoing, creative spirit. Living in Thornhill, I opened Blk Sheep Boutique with my sister two years ago. Using Instagram we have been able to successfully build our brand through the pictures and outfit inspirations.

We recently expanded to open an online store (shop.blksheep.com) that ships worldwide.

I didn’t need to look very far — I chose dresses from my own boutique, Blk Sheep!

How would you describe your personal style?

My personal style is definitely trendy, but always with my own unique touches. I use fashion to express my various moods, whether I’m feeling super feminine and girly or grungy and hipster-esque. I don’t believe in having one set style or blindly following any trends. For me, there are no rules — fashion is purely a form of self expression.

Tell us about your hair and makeup for your wedding.

I found my makeup artist through Blk Sheep’s Instagram page after I posted asking people to tag their favourite Torontobased makeup artists. The response was overwhelming, with over 360 tags! I ended up choosing @makeupbyjenevoy! For my wedding I decided to go with a very natural look. I wanted my own features to be enhanced, not too exaggerated, and for my hair, I wanted it to look effortless and not too done. “I woke up like this!”

What beauty staples were in your wedding day makeup bag?

The only beauty staple I carried with me was my lipstick! I wore a nude MAC lipstick in “Blankety.”

We’d love to know about all the outfits and accessories you wore for the day of, and other wedding-related events leading up to and following your wedding.

Are there any special stories about any of the items?

For our engagement party, I wore a For Love & Lemons long sleeve lace and mesh dress with nude Prada heels. Due to the delicate nature of the dress, my jewellery was restricted to a pair of Tiffany & Co. diamond stud earrings.

E N G AG E M E N T PA RT Y:

For my bridal shower, I wore a dress by a UK-based line we carry at the store called TFNC London. It was a white mini dress with beaded detailing to accentuate the waist and the very minor side cutouts. I started the day off with a pair of sparkly Jimmy Choo peep toe heels, but I soon realized they were not grass friendly and would have to go, considering my tea party-themed shower took place in my grassy backyard! I changed into Hermès flat sandals with stone detailing to compliment my dress. I kept my jewellery minimal by wearing a Cartier love bracelet that my parents gave me and, of course, my engagement ring.

My Bachelorette spanned more than just one night! To celebrate, my closest friends and I went to NYC for a week and stayed in a suite at the Trump SoHo New York. Instead of wearing anything white, I opted for things like a black mesh

pencil skirt and crop top, a purple lace skirt with an ultra-high slit by For Love & Lemons, and a variety of patterned Clover Canyon pieces.

For my rehearsal dinner we ate at D Bar inside the Four Seasons Hotel Toronto. I wore a dress

by Ema Savahl that had a nude bodice and featured a 3D floral design throughout, pairing it with beige peep toe Louboutin heels.

R E H E A R SA L D I N N E R :

My wedding dress was designed by Ines Di Santo. It was a mermaidstyle dress with very subtle details. It was the train that sold it for me at first sight.

I made subtle changes to the dress to make it my own by adding straps and eliminating some of the extra beading. The gown was originally two-toned, but I asked them to make the gown in ivory, so it was slightly more traditional. I also added beadwork and mesh to the back. When picking my shoes, I chose a style that I could wear again after the wedding. I opted for the Manolo Blahnik “Hangisi” pump in silver with a fabric finish — they reminded me of Cinderella. And now that the wedding has passed, I like to wear them with jeans!

In terms of designing the look and feel of your wedding, where did you find your style inspiration?

When choosing my location, I knew that I didn’t want a traditional banquet hall.

I loved the modern sophistication and high ceilings of the Four Seasons Hotel, so it was a natural choice. The room was more modern than typical space so I knew we had to take the wedding decor in that direction. I had tons of help from my cousin, Elle Daftarian, the creative director of Petite & Sweet, who formerly had her own show on the Food Network called “Sugar Stars.” I knew I was in good hands with her.

How would you describe the style of your wedding?

For the dance floor we used an old Hermès scarf pattern. We used the colours featured in the pattern to then play around with in our decor and design, including the sweet table and cake. I knew I didn’t want to have typical place cards, so I decided to use champagne bubble candies and put them into a box with each guest’s name and table numbers.

Where did you honeymoon and why?

For our honeymoon we went to Italy for a three week tour. We started off in Rome, and continued on to Florence, Venice, and the Amalfi Coast, before returning to Rome to fly home. We chose Italy because I had never been and Joseph, being Italian, really wanted to show me around.

And the gelato doesn’t hurt either!

What was your favourite design element of the wedding?

The dance floor and the wall of orchids behind my head table were by far my favourite elements of the wedding.

Tell us about some of your favourite spots for: Shopping/Nightlife/Arts&Culture/Eating/Spa, etc.

I am completely biased, of course, but my favourite place to shop is Blk Sheep. I truly believe we have the best variety, new styles and new lines. When my sister and I do the buying for the store, we only bring in pieces we would personally wear.

My favourite spa is located at the Four Seasons Hotel. They do the best massage in town! Some of the best places to eat would

be Café Nervosa in Yorkville, Buca on King Street West, and Jacobs & Co has the best Wagyu beef and Caesar salad I’ve had in my life! Those are just to name a few — Toronto has an amazing restaurant scene!

How did you meet your fiancé?

I met Joseph in New York while I was living there for the summer. I was out with my best friend and cousin, when this guy came up to us and started making conversation. He then introduced me to Joseph, claiming they were cousins. Later on, I asked Joseph, “where did your cousin go?” and he told me that he had no clue who that guy was. Apparently the stranger just went up to him randomly and asked if he was interested in meeting some girls! Whoever he was, he was our modern day cupid!

What are your favourite websites?

My favourite websites are whowhatwear.com and domainehome.com. I love gathering fashion, food and interior design inspiration online. I’m also hugely into Pinterest.

What inspired you to open Blk Sheep? How would you describe its aesthetic, and what are your plans for the store’s future?

I was inspired to open Blk Sheep for several reasons. First, when I was growing up, I always knew that eventually I would end up working in fashion. My whole family shares this passion and we wanted to create something of our own and bring it to life. Secondly, we always found the area where we live lacks interesting boutiques.

When people come into the store, they always say the same two things to me. The

first is, “We found you on Instagram” and the second is “We couldn’t believe this store was in Canada!”. Customers often think we are from L.A. and or New York.

We carry a very carefully curated selection of items with limited stock — we really try to keep our stock selective and make sure the clothes we carry are unique. My plans for the future would be to launch my own clothing line. We are also expanding our online store (shop.blksheep.com).

What have been some of the top selling pieces at Blk Sheep? What trends do you think are big for this month?

Anything from the brand For Love & Lemons is usually a top seller. Their delicate lacy pieces have been flying out the door ever since we started stocking them. When we get the new shipments in, it’s always one for me and one for the store — I can’t resist! Their lacy skivvies and adorable lace skirts paired with chunky knits are sure to be a huge look for Fall and a great way to transition through the seasons.

What is an indulgence you would never forgo?

An indulgence I would never forgo would have to be my ever-growing purse collection. Collecting designer handbags has been a weakness of mine ever since I can remember.

What is last thing you bought and loved?

The last thing I bought and loved is definitely my wedding dress! Those memories will last forever. But I’m sad that I can’t wear it and walk around all day!

Tell us a little bit about yourself — Where do you live? What are some of your hobbies and interests?

For the past few months, home has been in Toronto where I’ve been filming Heroes Reborn, but I’m based out of L.A. I’m a huge book nerd, a bit of a cinephile, and a concert junkie. I love to cook and bake vegan things and though I have an awful voice, karaoke may be my favourite pastime — anyone who has every spent any amount of time with me will find this out very quickly; I’ll inevitably drag them out to do it.

What made you want to become an actress?

Watching movies. I was very much a hermit growing up, and I’d spend most days at home after school either reading or watching films. Both of the mediums taught me an incredible amount about people and humanity, and provided me with a kind of comfort and sense of belonging. This eventually developed into a desire to provide that same kind of feeling for others.

Tell us about Heroes: Reborn — who is your character? What was it like joining a cast that contains both a mix of characters from the original show, as well as newcomers like yourself?

I can’t say anything about my character — you’re going to have to wait till the premiere on Sept 24th to find out! The show has been absolutely amazing to work on. My first time going for a wardrobe fitting, I ran into Jack (Coleman, who plays HRG from the original series).

We talked a bit, exchanged numbers, and he invited me to dinner that night with him and a couple of the other cast members. Over four months have passed since that initial dinner, and the cast of the show have become like my family — there’s absolutely no hierarchy, no difference between the old and new cast, and it all started with how welcoming and inclusive Jack was that very first time I met him.

Can you give us a hint about what we can expect from Heroes: Reborn this season?

What to expect? The unexpected.

Tell us about some of your favourite spots for: Shopping/Nightlife/ Arts&Culture/Eating/Spa, etc.

Since I’m in Toronto, I love tiny concert venues like Horseshoe Tavern and Parts & Labour. The best shopping is hands down along Queen Street West, where you can find lots of local designers, with pieces that you won’t see anywhere else, as well as a bunch of second hand consignment stores. I spend more time in Kensington Market than I’d like to admit — from Hibiscus to Urban Herbivore to Bunner’s, there are so many good vegan places!

How would you describe your personal style?

I’m not a fan of sticking to one specific style; one day I might put on a metallic miniskirt with a band t-shirt, and the next I’ll throw on a blazer with striped pants. My style in one word is “eclectic.”

What are your beauty staples?

Moisturizer, sunscreen and perfume.

What is an indulgence you would never forgo?

Scented candles.

What is last thing you bought and loved?

Black and white oxford-style shoes from the Browns Wishbone Collection (confession: I’m a shoe-aholic). They’re incredibly comfortable, and I feel hella cool wearing them.

If you could travel back in time (or to the future) and attend a famous wedding, whose would it be?

David Bowie and Iman’s.
