just returned from an incredible week in Venice, with our friends from purple tree photography Italy where I was speaking at engage!, a world- to the venetian las vegas. An Amalfi Coast-Inspired Garden Wedding
P
earl Tang and Theudides Jr (T.J.) Almodovar first met at a bar in Vancouver in September 2013. They were each there with friends who were dating. It was love at first sight for one of them. “I was so enamoured with Pearl that I offered her a drink, which she turned down, along with the other three drink offers throughout the night,” recalls T.J. “After that day, with the help of her best friend, I made every attempt to be present at every function Pearl would possibly be attending for the next several months. It was a persistent and sometimes hilarious chase that eventually led to the romantic and magical day which was our wedding.” Though T.J. waited to propose until almost three years later, he had been planning the moment for quite some time. After considering all his options, he settled on the perfect idea. While the pair were vacationing in Positano, he invited Pearl to a private dinner set in a secluded cliffside location overlooking Italy’s Amalfi Coast. Just as the sun was setting, surrounded by dozens of candles, five hundred peonies (Pearl’s favourite flower), and live mandolin players serenading them with an acoustic version of Sam Smith’s, “Latch,” T.J. asked Pearl to marry him. The wedding took place on August 6, 2017 in Vancouver, British Columbia at the vancouver club. Jenny De Jong of countdown events planning & design provided full planning services and according to the groom, “Everything was executed to perfection.” Pearl donned multiple gowns on her wedding day. The first, her qipao-inspired dress, was custommade at manuel mendoza. Her second gown was designed by Martina Liana and purchased at lovella bridal in Pasadena.
T.J. wore Tom Ford formalwear from holt renfrew. He accessorized with a Tom Ford pocket square from harry rosen, cufflinks, and a watch, the latter of which was a wedding gift from Pearl.
Hair styling and makeup application services provided by sonia leal-serafim.
The co-maids of honour wore nude pink gowns from asos, while the bridesmaids wore dusty lilac gowns, also from ASOS. Groomsmen wore formalwear from indochino and bow ties from h&m.

the flower factory created a colourful floral ceremony space with vibrant blooms and a crystal chandelier covered in fresh foliage. Fresh greenery and ivory orchids were affixed to clear Chiavari chairs along the aisle. Ethereal white draping from upright decor signature events inc. Pearl and T.J. chose to forgo traditional wedding vows in lieu of personal letters they wrote to one another and read aloud.

the flower factory and upright decor signature events inc. transformed the vancouver club’s Grand Ballroom into an indoor urban garden inspired by the flora of Positano, the site of Pearl and T.J’s engagement. Vibrant florals filled the room, the most dramatic arrangement of which hung above the centre gallery table like a cloud. Greenery cascaded down from each of the statement chandeliers and a variety of high and low arrangements containing bright pops of colour and loose, garden-like florals sat atop the remaining gallery tables.

The five-tier wedding cake by ganache patisserie featured three different flavours: guava mandarin, espresso dark chocolate, and cassis matcha.
Pearl’s third dress was a glamorous gold sequin evening gown designed by Tal Medina.
Guests were treated to canapés and signature cocktails (bourbon sours and mojitos) during cocktail hour, a plated dinner at the reception, and a late-night ramen bar containing noodles and fried chicken, all of which were provided by the vancouver club. Despite the array of delicious food, Pearl and T.J. were most impressed by the florals and decor. Their favourite moment of the day was “walking in together and both being blown away by the amazing job the wedding team had done on the flowers and decorations. It was beyond dreamy,” shares the couple. The celebration ended with the couple dancing the night away to DJ Jay Raposki of signature wedding. In addition to photography services, life studios inc. captured video of the day. On their wedding day, T.J. surprised Pearl with a fully-planned honeymoon to Europe. The two embarked on their romantic vacation in October, less than two months after the wedding, and visited Munich, Monaco, and Paris before making their way back to Positano’s il san pietro di positano, where T.J. proposed. Upon their return to Vancouver, the newlyweds settled back into daily life, where Pearl is a fine jewellery sales specialist and T.J. is a realtor.

In true starlet form, Brandi wore four different gowns during the wedding day. For the ceremony, she wore a mermaid gown by Mikaella Bridal from isabelle’s bridal, paired with Christian Louboutin heels and Elsa Corsi earrings from jeweliette. Emy wore an Ike Behar tuxedo from debonair formal wear for the ceremony. His accessories included a Ferrucci bow tie, Salvatore Ferragamo shoes, a Gucci watch, and cufflinks, also from Debonair Formal Wear.

randi Alexander and Emy Aneke met thirteen years ago when they were cast as boyfriend and girlfriend in the film The Five People You Meet In Heaven. Their on-screen chemistry turned into a real-life romance and they’ve been together ever since. Every year since they began dating, Emy has planned an Easter egg hunt for Brandi. This year was no exception, however, Emy decided to do things a little differently. He handed Brandi a stack of cue cards, turning the annual tradition into a scavenger hunt. “Each egg I found led to something bigger and trickier,” describes Brandi. “The hunt ultimately led me to the fridge, where I found a basket of golden berries, my favourite fruit. I had to eat all the golden berries, which I thought was odd but was worth it because I finally found out why.” At the bottom of the basket of golden berries was a diamond ring and just as she spotted it, Emy got down on one knee in front of Brandi’s whole family and popped the question. “It caught me by surprise but it is a special memory I will never forget,” she shares. Brandi and Emy said “I do” on July 21, 2017 in Vancouver, British Columbia. CC Roa of roa floral and event design provided full event planning services and design assistance. Brandi’s stunning bouquet was also designed by ROA Floral and Event Design, who provided all floral and decor for the wedding. The arrangement consisted of white roses, phalaenopsis orchids, and miniature white calla lilies. Roses were adorned with sparkling rhinestones and the bouquet stem was covered in white satin ribbon accented with a crystal rhinestone appliqué. Brandi and Emy were wed at the Celebration Pavilion in queen elizabeth park. Four tall, lush floral arrangements from ROA Floral and Event Design sat in glass vases atop clear pedestals and surrounded the altar. Florals consisted of cymbidium orchids, white dahlias, and white roses interspersed with greenery. Guests sat in gold Chiavari chairs from lonsdale event rentals. “Our ceremony was very special and when I said I didn’t think I would I cry, I was wrong. As soon as I saw my groom, I couldn’t help but start to cry. It was the happiest moment of my life,” recalls Brandi.

Brandi changed into a handmade Nigerian gown for the reception, which she accessorized with earrings, a necklace, and a bracelet, all made of coral beads and gold-plated beading and purchased in Nigeria. Emy also changed into a traditional Nigerian outfit given to him by his mother.

The cocktail hour and wedding reception took place at the sutton place hotel vancouver. The focal point of the reception was undoubtedly the luxe sweetheart stage that sat on an elevated platform wrapped in white satin fabric from roa floral and event design. It featured an art deco-inspired custom-designed panel. Two fresh floral walls of hydrangea, roses, spray roses, and orchids flanked the black and gold panel. In addition, two floral arrangements from the ceremony were repurposed and stood at either edge of the stage. Behind the platform hung dramatic black draping from art of the party design inc., along with the pièce de rÊsistance, an array of sparkling crystal garlands that truly embodied 1920s glam.

TROPICAL ART DECO The bride requested that a touch of greenery be added to the reception florals, however, these were no ordinary greens. According to event planner CC Roa, “The majestic philodendron leaves requested were reminiscent of the greenery that surrounded the groom’s family garden in Nigeria.” roa floral and event design had 200 philodendron leaves shipped in from Colombia just three days before the wedding. These green accents, alongside white orchids, roses,

hydrangea, calla lilies, green amaranthus, and bupleurum stems, made up the tall centrepiece arrangements. Smaller bouquets of the same florals in customdesigned boxes with rhinestone appliqué from ROA Floral and Event Design comprised alternate centrepieces. A small clear box containing a Filipino pastry called polvoron from marked edible designs served as wedding favors.
Framed “Mr.” and “Mrs.” place cards, black and gold menus, table numbers, and heart-shaped fan cards were provided by making memories with stationery.

Catering was provided by the sutton place hotel vancouver. Brandi and Emy’s three-tier wedding cake was designed by marked edible designs and featured gold detailing and a bed of fresh white roses between each tier. The flavour was chocolate coconut and according to the bride, “it was to die for!” A chocolate table was also set up and included white chocolate-dipped strawberry pyramids with white roses, also prepared by Marked Edible Designs. The customized black dance floor was produced by instyle floor wraps and featured the couple’s monogram and wedding date. In the evening, Nigerian drummers and dancers from kokoma productions performed for guests, in addition to a live jazz musician from musical occasions. dg media productions provided cinematography and a same day edit presentation. dj physik also provided his DJ services. Brandi and Emy decided to do the unconventional and celebrate with both a pre-wedding honeymoon and a post-wedding honeymoon. Their “premoon” had them galavanting across Europe, starting in Belfast and ending in Paris, visiting Rome and Venice along the way. After the wedding, the couple embarked on a relaxing vacation to Cabo San Lucas. “This was much needed after our wedding. We enjoyed the rest and relaxation, soaking up the sun, and exploring the beaches of Cabo,” shares the groom. The couple currently resides in Surrey, where Brandi is an actress and Emy is an actor.
