just returned from an incredible week in Venice, Italy where I was speaking at Engage!, a world-renowned conference for the luxury wedding industry. I had a “pinch-me” moment as I checked into my magnificent waterfront suite at the belmond hotel cipriani, the host hotel and long-standing favourite of Hollywood royalty—George and Amal are often spotted returning to “The Cip” (pronounced Chip) since having partied there with their A-list guests on the eve of their own wedding a few years ago! Founded by Giuseppe Cipriani (the inventor of the Bellini cocktail) in 1958, the legendary hotel is situated on a semi-private island and accessed exclusively by boat. While I was there, I continually envisioned a younger Sofia Loren peeking out from the terraces along the Grand Canal! Daydreaming aside, my favorite moment of the trip was dining in the iconic rubelli showroom; our Engage! group was the first ever to enjoy this one-of-a-kind experience. Incidentally, I became fast friends with Sandrina Rubelli, our hostess and coowner of the 150-year-old iconic textile atelier. Beautiful, confident, and successful, Sandrina embodies the very theme of this issue, “The It Girl.” As I was researching for this issue, I learned that the phrase originated in British upper-class society around the turn of the 20th century. Over a hundred years later, and we’re still obsessed! Aside from Venice, it has been a busy few months of travel. In September, the WedLuxe team traveled with our friends from purple tree photography to the venetian las vegas. We were joined by It Girl of the moment, Allie Rizzo, for a few days of fashion-filled fun. We photographed Allie in the latest gowns by everyone from Monique Lhuillier to Marchesa, whom she wore for her own star-studded wedding (with friends Kanye & Kim Kardashian West in attendance!) to restaurateur Scott Sartiano a few years ago. Between managing

her busy modelling career, her popular Instagram account, @allierizzo, and her pet rescue charity, Mother of Dogs, Allie embodies everything “It” that this issue celebrates. Beginning on page 154, our WedLuxe Glitterati Style Files are filled with beautiful inspiration from the likes of Kate Moss, Grace Kelly, Garance Doré, and Michelle Obama, to name just a few of the iconic women who inspired our members and contributors. On page 224, I’m especially fond of our “The Duchess” editorial that celebrates the Victorian throwback trend we’re seeing (and loving!) on bridal runways right now. But perhaps my favourite It Girl of all is the one reading this letter: You, our reader. I continue to feel beyond fortunate that I get to put together this magazine and lead our company as we grow into new markets with new products (more on this soon, I promise.) A “Chic Soirée” Designed by the Bride

The couple’s modern and sleek invitation suite was designed by le papier invitations.

Michael wore black formalwear from empire customs with a personalized monogram sewn into the liner commemorating the wedding day. He also wore 007 cufflinks given to him as a gift by his brother, a bracelet from club dzign, and a watch from michael kors.

eddings have always played a role in the relationship of Anya Bortnik and Michael Moscatelli, as the couple first met at a bridal show in 2013. After four years of dating, the couple took a romantic vacation to the Dominican Republic. Two days into the vacation, Michael suggested they do a beach photoshoot with a professional photographer. Anya found this a little out of the ordinary, but she went along with it. Later that evening, their photo session began and for one of the photos, the photographer asked Anya to close her eyes. When she opened them, Michael was down on one knee and proposed. “I blanked out a bit and started crying and laughing,” she recalls. Thinking of everything, Michael had also arranged a celebratory private dinner where the newlyengaged couple called their families to share the happy news! Anya and Michael were married on August 31, 2017 at the arlington estate in Toronto, Ontario. Naturally, the wedding was planned by the bride—owner and principal event planner of la chic soirée. Despite the time crunch (the wedding was less than five months from the couple’s engagement!), Anya created an incredible event to be proud of—celebrating who they are as a couple while infusing her own personal style. “My goal was for guests to walk in and say ‘This is so Anya!’ and they did,” she shares. Her La Chic Soirée colleagues, Emily and Amanda, helped with day-of coordination to ensure Anya could sit back, relax, and enjoy the role of bride on the wedding day itself. To achieve a perfect wedding glow, Anya’s pre-wedding facial and manicure were expertly (and lovingly!) provided by her mom, owner of irena’s esthetics advanced skin care. Hair styling and makeup application services were provided by fancy face inc.

CEREMONY NOTES

The couple was married in a traditional Jewish ceremony by Rabbi David Cooper at the arlington estate. A beautiful modern chuppah was erected on-site by stemz. The rose gold structure was covered in blush flowers, white wisteria, and cascading greenery and stood atop a white plexi stage from platinum entertainment solutions. Guests sat in white Tiffany chairs from detailz couture event rentals.

A CONTEMPORARY ITALIAN GARDEN The beautiful reception (also held at the arlington estate) was designed to feel like a castle in Italy upon the design direction of the bride. “I wanted it to feel like an Italian château, where the greenery is effortlessly cascading onto the centrepieces and there is lots of candlelight to create a romantic ambience,” shares Anya. Floral, designed by stemz, featured two types of centrepieces displayed on mirrored tables from detailz couture event rentals. Anya and Michael’s contemporary mirrored sweetheart table was

A hedge of florals and greenery spanned the length of the table from Detailz Couture Event Rentals while five crystal chandeliers from enzo mercuri designs were suspended from above by bb blanc inc. White draping and foliage-covered gold columns comprised the modern backdrop from Stemz that stood immediately behind the head table. “We really wanted that Italian garden feel where the greenery grows on the walls,” shares Anya.

the arlington estate was responsible for all catering, which included hors d’oeuvres during cocktail hour and a three-course plated dinner consisting of mushroom risotto, beef short rib, and a dessert trio of Nutella bomboloni, red velvet cake, and crème brûlée. They also created a selection of Nutella pizzas and ice cream sandwiches for guests to indulge in as late-night sweet snacks. “I love ice cream sandwiches and had to include it in our wedding,” shares Anya. A DJ and MC from party crew entertainment provided their services throughout the reception and according to the bride, “They really got the party going!” elle & be films provided cinematography services and allure limo & services provided transportation services. Immediately following their wedding day, Anya and Michael headed to Europe for the trip-of-alifetime. Their first stop was the Amalfi Coast, where they visited the picturesque villages of Sorrento, Amalfi, and Positano. From there, they headed to the Greek Islands of Santorini and Mykonos. According to the bride, “We had the best time. We relaxed, ate a lot of food, drank wine, went to the beach, drove around the islands, explored the Amalfi Coast, and watched the most beautiful sunsets you will ever see! It was exactly what we wanted and we enjoyed every moment of it!”

andra Porzio and Steven Stamkos first met while attending high school in Markham, Ontario. A few years later, they began dating. In 2016, after eight years together, Steven asked Sandra to marry him. Professional NHL player Steven proposed to Sandra the day after he and his teammates from the Canadian men’s hockey team won the World Cup of Hockey in his hometown of Toronto. “Steven proposed at our home the next day on September 30, 2016. It was very romantic and intimate,” shares Sandra. Keeping the winning streak going, their friends and family gathered at the couple’s home the day after the proposal to celebrate all of the good news before the newly-engaged pair returned to their home in Tampa, where Steven plays for the Tampa Bay Lightning. The wedding took place on June 30, 2017 in Kleinburg, Ontario. Ellie Martires of laura & co. events provided full event planning services. Sandra and Steven’s traditional invitation suite was designed by paper & poste and featured rose gold foil, custom postage, a personalized monogram, black and white shimmer letterpress, and a cream and blush floral motif that extended to many other design details of their wedding.

Sandra and Steven said “I do” at the arlington estate in a short and sweet ceremony officiated by Jeremy Citron of all you need is love. Despite the rainy forecast, the clouds parted just in time for the team from rachel a. clingen wedding & event design to set up a dreamy outdoor space. A combination of roses, hydrangea, and soft greenery was affixed to the top of the existing wooden arbour on the grounds. Two glass vessels filled with fresh florals flanked either side of the altar. Smaller arrangements in short glass vases stood on stark white pedestals and lined the aisle. The ceremony provided the bride with her favourite moment of the day, which was “walking down the aisle and seeing Steven at the altar and all of our family and friends around us.”

A two-tier stage built by sole power productions was covered in white vinyl by dance floor décor, who also designed a custom piece separating the stage from the dance floor. This structure featured white vinyl with a rose gold border and was filled with florals from rachel a. clingen wedding & event design. Sole Power Productions curated a custom musical act for the bride and groom comprising their popular band The Digs and female vocalist Vanessa Legacy. “The band was one of the most complimented aspects of the evening and the stage added dimension to the room and allowed guests to feel as though they were experiencing a concert. Some of the guests even joined onstage for photos and dancing,” shares event planner Ellie Martires. Food and wine were extremely important to Sandra and Steven. From the moment guests arrived, Veuve Clicquot was flowing! the arlington estate provided their catering services, which included a three-course dinner, late-night food stations, and cocktail hour canapés. The couple’s classic three-tier wedding cake was prepared by st. phillips bakery. A macaron tower, mini cannolis, mini donuts, and customized cookies were prepared by patricia’s cake creations. dms video productions toronto provided their cinematography services and created a same day edit wedding video that was shown during the reception and projected onto the walls by Sole Power Productions. exclusive limousine service provided their transportation services. To cap off the evening, guests were invited outside for the cutting of the cake, but as soon as Sandra and Steven cut into the dessert, fireworks from Sole Power Productions exploded above them! “Guests were so surprised,” recalls Sandra, while Ellie Martires described the moment as “magical.” Sandra and Steven travelled to the beautiful Greek Islands for their honeymoon, visiting Mykonos and Santorini. They currently split their time between Toronto and Tampa, where Steven is a professional NHL player for the Tampa Bay Lightning.

uriko Cowper-Smith and Ritesh Acharya met at a mutual friend’s party in the fall of 2011. Though they didn’t have much in common, they decided to go on a date, which ended with the two ordering nachos from sneaky dee’s and Yuriko slipping her number into Ritesh’s phone. Since their first date, the pair has survived long-distance dating, PhD woes, and countless jobs—it seems they are truly meant to be! Four years later, Yuriko and Ritesh were planning an unforgettable vacation to Argentina and Chile. Yuriko had briefly entertained the idea that Ritesh might ask her to marry him while on their trip, but of course, she didn’t know for sure. To her surprise, Ritesh popped the question two weeks before their planned getaway. The intimate proposal happened in their condo over an extravagant brunch that Ritesh had prepared. “I could tell it was prepared with blood, sweat, and tears. To this day, he still boasts a scar on his left hand,” recalls Yuriko. Despite being in her pajamas, it’s a memory she will never forget. The couple celebrated their wedding with a multi-day affair in Toronto, Ontario over the weekend of July 14-16, 2017. Melissa Haggerty and Gabi Armenia of spectacularspectacular provided full event planning services for all of the events. As per Indian tradition, a sangeet party, or music party, was held the night before the wedding at evergreen brick works. The raw urban space was transformed by the collaborative design direction of paras events inc. and SpectacularSpectacular. Paras Events Inc. provided jewel-toned floral designs and antique mercury glass lanterns. Gold velvet couches were mixed with gold tables and translucent amber stools and chairs from contemporary furniture rentals inc.

A swag bag station, styled by Paras Events Inc., invited guests to choose from a variety of goodies to take home with them, ranging from origami kits and fans to henna cookies.

Wishing for their invitation suite to be a reflection of themselves, the elegant white card stock was accented with the Suzuki family crest, a cherry blossom, from Yuriko’s Japanese side, and a motif of Ganesha, a Hindu deity, representing Ritesh’s Indian background. For an extra degree of personalization, Yuriko’s friend Sara Froese from all sorts press printed them on her letterpress.

Sahil Khan played the shehnai, a musical instrument similar to the oboe, as the bride and her parents made their way to the altar. The dreamy aisle ultimately led to a traditional mandap that was covered in green vines to complement the garlands hanging overhead, and highlighted by white lisianthus dispersed throughout.

The garlands were a mixture of many different vines but the most unique (and time-sensitive!) was the passion vine, a plant that produces a stunning purple flower but blooms for only one day. Talk about perfect timing!

The bridesmaids wore blue and gold saris.

In lieu of a typical cocktail reception, the coupleâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s ceremony setup at the royal conservatory was repurposed to make room for a lunch buffet. Guests enjoyed champagne while gujarati foods prepared a variety of vegetarian dishes for guests, including gajar ka halwa, mango lassi, kala channa, and corn paneer. 110

For the ceremony, Yuriko wore a pale yellow lengeha from Indian designer Anita Dongre. She paired this gown with gold Jimmy Choo shoes from nordstrom and a gold necklace and earrings with red and green semi-precious stones from perniaâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s pop-up shop. After lunch, guests made their way to the four seasons hotel toronto for the dinner reception. As they entered the Aria Ballroom, a showstopping escort card wall greeted guests. No ordinary seating chart, the fixture consisted of fresh foliage intermixed with faux leaves designed and printed by paper & poste to include guest names and table assignments. In addition, nearly 200 origami flowers, hand-made by Osamu from the origami society of toronto, had been affixed to the wall. This unique installation was Yuriko’s favourite design detail of the wedding, “It was an idea we cooked up the week prior to the wedding and it was executed flawlessly.”

Despite the luxe, vibrant tablescapes, all eyes were on the round black stage created by firedog creative. The stage featured a grand piano, where renowned pianist John Roby performed through dinner. “The stage was covered in dozens upon dozens of candles and was the prettiest backdrop for all the speeches,” notes event planner and designer Melissa Haggerty. The four seasons hotel toronto prepared a plated dinner for guests, in addition to a lavish dessert table featuring macarons, gajar ka halwa parfaits, boondi ladoo tarts with rosewater and saffron cream, chia panna cotta, cashew caramel rice pudding, pepper spiced chocolate mousse cake, pistachio brown butter cake, and a milk chocolate chai ganache torte. corinne mcdonald films captured all of the festivities, including the party that unfolded on the dance floor courtesy of DJ Rav. The floor decal was designed by paper & poste and installed by dance floor décor. After their extravagant three-day celebration, the newlyweds settled back into daily life in Toronto, where Yuriko is a PhD student in Political Science and Ritesh is a Senior Director of Scientific Affairs.

The newlyweds sat at their own colourful sweetheart table in front of a whimsical floral trellis covered in climbing clematis, created by stemz. It was intended to mimic the escort card wall, the big difference being that fresh flowers were used as opposed to origami ones.

Rustic Romance

n true Canadian fashion, Kristy Rosenberg and Casey Cizikas met while tobogganing on a local hill in Mississauga. This was back in 2005, when they were in grade nine, and before they became high school sweethearts. A few weeks after meeting on the slopes, the two began dating and have been together ever since. Eleven years later, on December 23, 2016, Casey proposed. Now an NHL player for the New York Islanders, he had flown home the night before his last season game to celebrate Christmas in Canada. “The day of the proposal he had picked me up from work and insisted that I change so that we could go for a walk with our two dogs, Bentley and Phoebe,” recalls Kristy. “He drove us to Port Credit to get hot chocolate and walk on the boardwalk. The sun was just beginning to set and all we could see were Christmas lights and snow filling the streets.” As they passed the Port Credit Lighthouse, Casey asked Kristy if she wanted to take a photo. Never one to refuse a cute photo-op, Kristy started to get into position but when she turned around, she found Casey down on one knee. “I was in shock as he had given no indication or hints as to when or if he would be proposing,” she recalls. After a joyful acceptance, they returned to Kristy’s parents’ home, only to find a surprise party with all of their family and friends waiting to celebrate with them. The wedding took place on July 8, 2017 in Toronto, Ontario, with karina lemke wedding & event design helping to plan the celebration from day one. Kristy wore a strapless Hayley Paige gown purchased from pearl bridal house. She accessorized with nude lace Jimmy Choo heels purchased in New York City, a cathedral length Hayley Paige veil, and an Alexander McQueen clutch. A pair of diamond earrings and a rose gold diamond ring, both gifts from Casey, finished off the look.

A “farmhouse chic”-themed cocktail and wedding reception took place at palais royale, alongside Lake Ontario. “We wanted our wedding to feel elegant and romantic but also very boho and fun,” shares Kristy. This direction inspired Rachel A. Clingen Wedding & Event Design to design a rustic-meets-romantic reception. Wooden accents and twinkling fairy lights draped from the ceiling emanated a pretty glow throughout the room. Blush draping from eventure custom environments and event draping hung behind the sweetheart table, in addition to the sheer winter white draping that lined the perimeter of the room. When it came to the florals, Kristy and Casey requested a mixture of pastel colours and green foliage, and their floral-canopied head table was the focal point of this concept. Round tables featuring various floral centrepieces were accented by a mixture of crystal and wooden candlesticks, vases, candles, and black lanterns. “We included a variety of candles and hanging lanterns to give the space a very romantic, whimsical feel,” shares Kristy.

The couple, along with their closest family and friends, spent the night dancing to the sounds of michael coombs entertainment, who also provided MC services. All of the festivities were captured by summerfield films. “Our biggest priority was to make sure our wedding was one big party for us and our guests. We wanted to make sure that our dance floor was always packed and that the bar never ran out,” shares Kristy. Kristy and Casey’s five-tier wedding cake from fine cakes by zehra was covered in white fondant and embellished with edible lace and sugar flowers that cascaded from top to bottom. Customized cookies decorated with pink icing and white lace and florals complemented the main confection and served as wedding favors. Following their wedding, Kristy and Casey left for the ultimate Hawaiian honeymoon. Their vacation took them to the islands of Maui, Oahu, and Kauai, and provided the perfect opportunity “to unwind after all of the wedding stress,” shares the bride. After a “beautiful and relaxing” trip, the newlyweds returned to their busy lives in New York City, where Casey is a professional NHL player for the New York Islanders and Kristy is an operating room nurse.

llie Fischer and Cody Goloubef first met at summer camp when they were just kids. It all started with Cody and one of his best friends throwing rocks at the girls’ cabin in a gesture to get Allie’s attention. “At the age of eleven, it was the epitome of romance and Cody became my first crush,” shares Allie. He was too shy to invite her to the camp’s endof-week banquet but luckily, fate stepped in and the two reconnected at a high school party many years later. They quickly began dating and after their senior year of high school, decided to give long distance a try when Cody left to play hockey at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. One year later, Allie transferred to Wisconsin and a few years after that, the couple moved to Washington D.C., “We racked up countless miles, lived in multiple cities, and played on several teams before we finally tied the knot in our dream ceremony, just an hour from Oakville, where we grew up a street apart ten years earlier.” Their engagement took place in Florida, also home to the couple’s first vacation spot at the age of seventeen and the place where Cody first said, “I love you.” Although Allie was hopeful Cody would pop the question, there were no telltale signs. One night while on their trip, Cody invited Allie to go on a canal boat ride. When the two arrived at the marina, it started to pour but despite the wet weather, they persevered with their plans. They snuggled at the front of the boat under a cover and once the rain had stopped, Cody suggested they take a photo. Allie walked to the bow of the boat, turned around, and saw Cody down on one knee. After she said “YES!” they popped champagne and people congratulated them from the shore. “For us, most summer weekends are spent on the boat at my mom’s cottage, so his proposal was the perfect reflection of both our favourite pastime and the location where we laid our roots ten years earlier,” shares Allie. The wedding took place on July 8, 2017 in Toronto, Ontario. Both the ceremony and reception were held at evergreen brick works and Laura Atendido of laura & co. events provided full event planning services.

Allie and Cody planned numerous surprises for their guests throughout the day, the first of which was a pre-ceremony mobile gelateria from dolcella gelato. This kept guests cool as they waited for the day’s festivities to begin and included six flavours: stracciatella, mango, lemon, Nutella, decadent Dutch chocolate, and amarena cherry Greek yogurt.

CEREMONY NOTES The couple exchanged vows on The Francis and Tim Price Terrace in front of an asymmetrical floral arch designed by rachel a. clingen wedding & event design. In an effort to complement the natural surroundings of the outdoor venue, Rachel’s team used fresh vines imported from South Carolina. The floral structure, rich in foliage, garden roses, lisianthus, freesia, and fresh willow, perfectly framed the couple as they said “I do.” Fresh cut florals in glass vessels were affixed to chairs from contemporary furniture rentals inc. Foregoing convention, a violinist and pianist from saturday night jive played a beautiful version of “Magic” by Coldplay as Allie and Cody walked down the aisle together, a decision they made “as a nod to our already-formed partnership, nearly eleven years in the making, and also as a symbol that we were entering into the marriage together,” shares the bride.

ENCHANTED FOREST MEETS INDUSTRIAL GLAMOUR When the reception space opened up, guests were in awe. “Simply put… The CRH Gallery was transformed into a floral heaven,” says Laura Atendido. The rachel a. clingen wedding & event design team brought the raw, industrial space to life with suspended floral features and centrepieces as far as the eye could see.

A 16-ft canopy of vines and roses was suspended above the dance floor, framing three crystal chandeliers from three design. Gallery tables were accented with oversized, suspended floral centrepieces and more luxe crystal chandeliers. Low floral arrangements interspersed with crystal candleholders of varying heights ran down the tables. Round tables also featured beautiful abundant centrepieces.

“We wanted to transform the space but not hide it, and our wedding planner and decor team did that so perfectly. There were lots of florals and soft details scattered throughout to soften elements like the graffiti and concrete floors.”–allie

The swings were suspended from the Galleryâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s ceiling by firedog creative and wrapped in green vines from rachel a. clingen wedding & event design for a truly whimsical and fairytale-esque look. There was even a lounge situated adjacent to the swings so guests could relax as they waited their turn.

The couple worked with chef Brad Long of belong catering to curate the ultimate culinary experience. They wanted to pay tribute to their love of food and the comforts of classics like Yorkshire pudding and cornbread. Thus, their customized menu included the likes of hot honeydrizzled buttermilk chicken with corn pan bread and filet mignon with horseradish mashed potatoes, maple glazed carrots, and Yorkshire pudding. For dessert, guests were treated to mason jar cheesecake with a graham cracker base topped with fresh raspberries and raspberry purée. Allie and Cody surprised their guests once again with a same day edit video from outside in studio that was projected onto a screen set up by firedog creative. According to the bride, “They enjoyed seeing the big day from our perspective, from Cody’s shaky bow-tying skills to the emotions of our first look. Many said it was their favorite detail of the day.” saturday night jive’s 20person musical army shared the spotlight with DJ Flash from across the board entertainment for the reception. “To say Saturday Night Jive brought down the house is an understatement,” recalls Laura. The newlyweds had their first dance to an “incredible rendition” of “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran. “Our band and DJ played until 2 a.m. and our crowd was literally chanting, ‘one more song, one more song.’ No one, including us, wanted the night to end,” recalls Allie. After the wedding, the couple embarked on the trip-of-a-lifetime to Greece. According to the bride, “Santorini was the most picturesque place either of us had ever been; it seemed like with every turn there was another breathtaking, postcard view to soak in. It gave us the perfect opportunity to recuperate from the wedding festivities and soak in the excitement of being newlyweds, with a glass of rosé in hand at all times, of course.” They then headed to Mykonos, where they continued to eat fresh Greek food, explore private beaches, and go swimming and snorkelling. The couple currently splits their time between Oakville and the United States, where Cody is a professional hockey player and Allie is in PR and marketing.

Two to Tango

lga Gaponenko and Diego Delgado first met at a hospital. At the time, Olga was suffering from a heart condition and Diego was her doctor. “He looked after me and literally saved my life. With time we became good friends and the rest is history,” shares Olga. After their five year friendship-turned-romance, Diego asked Olga to marry him while the couple were on vacation in Diego’s home country of Argentina. The night of the proposal, they were visiting one of the most exclusive tango clubs in the country. “The atmosphere was very romantic; we were drinking amazing Argentinian wine and watching an incredibly inspiring tango performance,” recalls Olga. “Diego got down on his knee and asked me to marry him, presenting the most beautiful ring I had ever seen.” The wedding was held on July 15, 2017 in Toronto, Ontario. Tamara Niyazov of fab fête event planning boutique provided full event planning services for the eight months leading up to the wedding.

Olga wore a strapless ball gown from tom jeon bridal. She completed her “modern princess” look with Valentino heels from holt renfrew and a diamond bracelet and diamond earrings, both gifts from her mother.

Olga and Diego said “I do” in a small, intimate ceremony at the trump international hotel toronto (now the adelaide hotel toronto). “We only invited our immediate family and close friends as we wanted a very intimate and private ceremony,” shares the bride. The ceremony decor and floral were provided by Flowers Time, including a beautiful “floral ring” backdrop. Acrylic pillars topped with oversized arrangements of hydrangea, roses, and orchids inside glass vessels lined the aisle while clear Chiavari chairs from majestic chair boutique completed the transparent aesthetic.

The couple paid special attention to incorporating both of their family cultures, Ukrainian and Argentinian. “We both have two kids from previous marriages and wanted to share the blending of our families with our guests,” says Olga. “We did this by booking an Argentinian dance group and a traditional Ukrainian dance performance.”

According to Olga, “There was a lot of preparation involved,” ranging from finding a custom-made tango costume to taking private dancing lessons for six months. “It was incredible and completely wowed all of our guests.” epiq vision provided all AV and lighting for the day. The couple requested a coloured room wash as guests entered the reception venue, as well as a club-like atmosphere with special effects during the dancing portion of the evening and spotlights during their first dance. The couple currently resides in Thornhill, where Olga is a real estate agent and Diego is a doctor.

lex Fisher first spotted Tristan Ledingham leaving a restaurant with a group of friends, one of whom he recognized. “When he got home later that day, he found the mutual friend on Facebook and proceeded to filter through his 800+ friends until he came across my profile,” describes Tristan. Despite never having spoken, Alex bravely sent Tristan a message asking if he wanted to go out for drinks. Tristan declined and continued to do so for the next nine months, however, Alex’s persistence finally wore him down and on April 9, 2012, they went on their first date. Four years later, Alex planned the ultimate proposal. As an ode to the couple’s long history with Toronto’s famous Lovebot (there was one in the garage of the apartment building Tristan lived in when they first started dating and when they are travelling apart and they see murals of it, they send a photo of it to one another), Alex commissioned the artist to create a Lovebot statue just for them. At sunrise on March 20, 2016, Alex woke Tristan up and told him to go downstairs, claiming someone was at the door that needed to speak with him. Despite his protestations given that it was 7 a.m. on a Sunday, Tristan finally rolled out of bed and the two headed downstairs. Instead of going to the door, Alex led Tristan to the back patio where the Lovebot statue was placed with a ring box perched on its hand. As the sun came up, Alex bent down on one knee and asked Tristan to spend the rest of their lives together. After the proposal, the couple travelled to Prince Edward County, staying at the drake devonshire. The location has now become “their” spot, as they also revisited the property for a short honeymoon. The wedding took place on July 29, 2017 in Toronto, Ontario. Anya Bortnik of la chic soirée provided same-day coordination and according to the grooms, “Anya did an incredible job taking charge the day of and flawlessly running a perfect evening.”

Alex and Tristan were married at The Royal Conservatory where they exchanged personalized vows in a short and traditional ceremony. The altar consisted of a gold geometric backdrop from engineered arts and floral arrangements of Mexican fan palms, cabbage palm leaves, white anthuriums, and king protea in gold vases on matching metal stands.

TROPICAL MINIMALISM The cocktail hour and wedding reception also took place at the royal conservatory. The space had been reconfigured for a formal, sit-down dinner. Brown farmhouse chairs from contemporary furniture rentals inc. sat around a mixture of round and gallery tables, while Benjamina ficus trees were dispersed along the perimeter of the room. With tropical greenery as their focus, two types of centrepieces were created by flowers time. The first, which embellished round tables, consisted of huge

palm leaves in tall glass vessels, while gallery tables were adorned with lush garlands of greenery made with banana leaves, aspidistra, ferns, and hints of white anthurium. Cylindrical glass candleholders with floating candles were also provided by Flowers Time and clear stemware, gold flatware, and white bread plates were all from event rental group.

Calligraphy on the acrylic escort cards and table numbers was provided by handlettery studio. Marble slab place card calligraphy by janelico. 3D pentagonal orbs from engineered arts.

To add a splash of green to the tables, each place setting was accented with either a fern or monstera leaf tucked into a napkin alongside a hexagonal menu from paper & poste.

Musical duo Chris and Catherine, who are close family friends of the couple, performed acoustic covers of some of Tristan and Alex’s favourite love songs during the ceremony and reception. They even performed the pair’s first dance song, “Say You Won’t Let Go” by James Arthur, before Tristan joined in halfway through as a surprise to Alex. “The best part about planning the wedding were the secrets, such as my surprise live performance (where I sang!) of our first dance song. Being able to plan these special moments meant the guests and Alex would be on the edge of their seats all evening,” shares Tristan. Later in the night, DJ Steve Fernandez from bellosound provided his DJ services. eventful set up a specialty coffee bar during the reception. Daniel et Daniel Catering & Events catered the wedding and ended the night by rolling out two late-night treats: a poutine bar with french fries and white cheddar curds and a shredded ancho beef taco bar. Food was undeniably an important part of the couple’s celebration and according to Tristan, “Laura Long from Daniel et Daniel was a complete rockstar. She custom-created the most perfect menu from start to finish.” Tristan and Alex are still in the process of planning their honeymoon but hope to visit Hong Kong, Bali, and the Maldives. The couple resides in Toronto, where Tristan is a merchant and musician and Alex is an accountant.

In lieu of a traditional wedding cake, Tristan and Alex opted for a decadent dessert table comprising vanilla cake popsicles, a macaron tower, fruit kebabs, peach pie verrines, pistachio lemon donuts, rocky road verrines, grasshopper pie verrines, and mini milk bottles with Froot Loop macarons, all of which were prepared by daniel et daniel catering & events.

ate and Sandy Mackay first met in 2010 while Kate was working as an event manager at a decor company. She was in charge of hiring event set up crews and one day, Sandy’s resume landed in her lap. She called him in for an interview, during which she was immediately struck by how cute he was. “Needless to say, I hired him! Not because he was so handsome, but because he seemed like a great, reliable guy - and he was,” recalls the bride. However, it was over one year later through a twist of fate that the two officially began dating. “A friend of mine referred me to an astrologist who told me that on December 23, 2011, I would meet someone special,” shares Kate. Naturally, she was skeptical but fast forward to her office holiday party on December 23rd, where to her surprise, Sandy showed up and they spent the entire evening together. “To this day, I cannot believe how the stars have aligned for us,” says the bride. Four years to the day from that fateful party, Sandy called Kate, asking her to come home during her lunch break so they could eat together. When Kate arrived home, she opened the front door and found a path of rose petals lined with candles leading throughout the house. “Marry Me” by Train was playing in the background and notes listing the reasons why Sandy loves her were strung along the path. Upon reaching the dining room, she saw the words, “will you marry me” spelled out in candles. When she looked left into the kitchen, there was Sandy down on one knee. Kate excitedly accepted his proposal and the two popped a bottle of champagne in celebration. The wedding took place on April 22, 2017 in Toronto, Ontario. Anya Bortnik of la chic soirée provided partial event planning services and according to the bride, “Anya was amazing at helping me pull my vision together. I couldn’t have done it without her.”

The head table was covered in a cascading hedge of pink and white florals. Suspended from the ceiling above it was another arrangement of white blooms, branches, and candlelit glass ornaments, while a wall of garden lights acted as an illuminating backdrop and provided additional lighting to enhance the decor.

A unique feature was that nearly every single table included flowers on the tablescape, as well as hanging overhead. “It truly was a dream,” shares Raviv Krikunets of R5 Event Design. Round tables were the only ones that did not feature a suspended arrangement, where instead, 12-ft tall wisteria trees comprised centrepieces.

White wisteria was suspended above nearly every table in the room, while fresh cut tulips in clear triangular vases ran down the centre of tablescapes. Floating candles in cylindrical candleholders added to the centrepiece arrangements and clear stemware, silver flatware, white napkins, and white menus from the fermenting cellar made up place settings.

The bridesmaids performed a compilation of “Wannabe” by Spice Girls and “Baby Got Back” by Sir Mix-a-Lot. For their honeymoon, Kate and Sandy first travelled to the Maldives, where they stayed at the centara grand island resort & spa maldives, before moving on to the taj dubai in Dubai. Their tropical hut overlooked the Indian Ocean in the Maldives, where they spent seven days fishing, swimming with whale sharks, and snorkelling. They also enjoyed outstanding cuisine courtesy of the resort’s in-house chef from Switzerland. “From oysters to pasta to Thai food–we couldn’t have asked for anything better,” recalls the groom. In Dubai, the newlyweds took in the culture of the city, went on a desert safari tour, and rode camels. The couple currently resides in Hamilton, where Kate is a real estate investor and property developer and Sandy is the founder of Mackay Realty Network.

A Floral Dream in The Crystal Ballroom

uling Zheng and Haifeng Feng’s first meeting was completely unexpected. Haifeng walked into Yuling’s store, the two started talking, and it progressed from there. “He made me feel special when he looked at me and the way he was humouring me made me feel like a little girl again,” recalls the bride. For the couple’s one-year anniversary, Haifeng surprised Yuling with a home-cooked dinner. He had been taking cooking lessons for weeks and had everything carefully planned out. Before proposing, he played a romantic slideshow highlighting important moments in their relationship. “After showing our past beautiful moments together, he asked me the question I had been waiting to hear,” recalls Yuling. The wedding took place on June 4, 2017 in Toronto, Ontario. Flora Peng of fleur weddings inc. provided full event planning services leading up to the celebration. The couple was married in a civil ceremony at the omni king edward hotel. The venue’s newly-renovated Crystal Ballroom was transformed into a pastel floral paradise courtesy of forget me not flowers. A white aisle runner led to the main stage, both carpeted by luxe modern rentals inc., who also provided the ornate signing table. “We wanted to incorporate our family into our wedding as much as possible so both fathers acted as witnesses for our ceremony,” shares Yuling.

A four-piece jazz band from ispy performed throughout the cocktail hour and dinner, while mc leo shiu provided his services for the entire reception. In addition to photography, agi studio provided their cinematography services. freeman provided their AV services throughout the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception. Guests were treated to a four-course dinner courtesy of the omni king edward hotel that included shrimp and crab cakes with wasabi crema, seared scallops with beluga caviar, a choice of beef Wellington and heirloom carrots or soy-lacquered black cod with shiitake risotto, and passion fruit in white chocolate. truffle cake & pastry prepared the couple’s decadent dessert table, which included not one but three wedding cakes, in addition to monogrammed cookies, miniature bundt cakes, cupcakes, and donuts. “I had discussed the design of our sweets table many times with our wedding planner Flora, but it still surprised me and well exceeded my expectations,” shares the bride. In addition to edible gilding and blush and lavender sugar flowers, the cakes were each adorned with a distinct design. Two of the cakes featured a hand-painted panda and rabbit, respectively, while the main confection had a gold cake topper in the shape of the two animals. “The rabbit and the panda represented my husband and I. Truffle Cake & Pastry were able to incorporate these important symbols into the overall design,” says Yuling. Since so many guests travelled from China for the wedding, Yuling and Haifeng decided to postpone their honeymoon. Instead, they hosted 40 of their guests in their hometown of Halifax and in Vancouver. “They had a great vacation in Canada and we provided a wonderful guest experience even after our wedding,” says Yuling. The couple currently resides in Halifax, where they are both small business owners.

shley Lannes and Alburt Lefebvre first met through mutual friends when Ashley was just seventeen years old. Three years later, the two reconnected and the rest is history! After five years of dating, Alburt surprised Ashley with a last minute getaway to the island of Eleuthera in the Bahamas to celebrate her birthday. Unbeknownst to Ashley, the trip was also a guise for Alburt’s romantic proposal plans! Upon arriving at the ultra-exclusive hotel the cove, Ashley opened the door to their oceanside villa and discovered champagne and macarons waiting. “Before I could blink he was already on one knee,” she recalls, “I was so caught off guard that neither of us can even remember what was said in those moments. We celebrated for the following five days in pure bliss. It was the best vacation ever.” The wedding took place on June 10, 2017 in Toronto, Ontario. Laura Atendido of laura & co. events provided partial event planning and full design planning services, focusing on the areas of stationery, florals, and decor. The couple’s sleek and modern stationery, designed by paper & poste, set the tone for their black tie celebration. The letterpress invitation suite featured a geometric monogram, a motif that extended to the reception menus, dance floor, and cocktail hour bar decals. Ashley’s Leah Da Gloria gown and her veil were both purchased from powder. For a different look for the ceremony, she layered a customized tulle skirt from ferré sposa over the gown. She wore earrings from tara fava jewellery. Alburt wore black formalwear from empire customs for the ceremony before changing into a white tuxedo from Empire Customs for the reception. He accessorized with Christian Louboutin shoes, a Panerai watch, and an Hermès belt.

CEREMONY NOTES Ashley and Alburt were wed in the Vinci ballroom at the four seasons hotel toronto. The couple said “I do” in front of a showstopping gold metal-framed canopy covered in lush white florals from fuscia designs, which Ashley described as the “focal point” of the ceremony. Given that the bride is the principal designer behind flowerly, it was no surprise that the ceremony featured beautiful, over-the-top florals. “Being a florist, I think everyone had big expectations that my florals were going to look amazing,” she shares.

“Walking down the aisle was so special. Seeing the look on my now-husband’s face made me break down in tears. The most memorable moment was saying our vows and the exchange of our rings. This moment was so special to us that it felt like it was just the two of us in the room.”–ashley

The cocktail and wedding reception also took place at the four seasons hotel toronto. Using her skills as a florist, Ashley designed a special favor that also doubled as an escort card. Each guest received a single white rose, packaged in a personalized box from creative bag. They were displayed atop a gold bar back from detailz couture event rentals. In the Vinci ballroom, fuscia designs created a beautiful environment using a palette of white and gold. Round tables from the Four Seasons Hotel Toronto were mixed with white plexi gallery tables from r5 event design. Two types of flower arrangements were created; the first sat atop the round tables and featured loose white blooms in a tall gold vase with shorter bouquets at the base. The second variation, which could be found on the plexi gallery tables, included a 7-ft gold-framed canopy with a runner of white florals and three smaller hedges in gold vases.

The pièce de résistance was undoubtedly the head table, constructed by the groom’s company, build it by design. The table sat atop an elevated stage wrapped in white vinyl from event graffiti lined with a hedge of lush white florals. The setting was framed with a spectacular gold four-corner canopy by fuscia designs covered in peonies, garden roses, spray roses, ranunculus, hydrangea, and gardenia greens. Unsurprisingly, this was the bride’s favourite design detail. “Our sweetheart table was not available for rent anywhere in Toronto. With Alburt being a builder, he was able to have the table custom-made for me. This table now sits in my home office. It’s a forever memory that I get to look at every day,” shares Ashley.

The statement head table was positioned in front of the customized white and gold dance floor, which was produced by Event Graffiti and featured the couple’s geometric monogram designed by Paper & Poste. 150

As per Brazilian tradition, the couple had a plethora of confections on their dessert table, including hand-painted chocolate truffles from monde du chocolat, traditional Brazilian sweets from mom’s sweets, and a meringue tower, a madeleine tower, golden apples, macarons, donuts, and sugar cookies from fine cakes by zehra. Fine Cakes By Zehra also designed Ashley and Alburt’s five-tier white and champagne wedding cake, which featured ivory sugar flowers and gold beading inspired by both the bride’s wedding dress and her favourite fashion house, Balmain. michael coombs entertainment kept guests on their feet during the dancing portion of the evening and a photo booth from mango studios was rolled out for the reception. psav set up a screen and projector to show a same day edit wedding video created by up productions. After their dream wedding, Ashley and Alburt embarked on a four-week honeymoon that took them all over the world. Their first stop was Italy, where they stayed in a villa in Capri for one week, followed by another villa in the Amalfi Coast. Their next stop was the Maldives, which the groom described as “one of the most beautiful places we have ever been.” From there, the pair flew to Dubai where they enjoyed the comforts of the jumeirah beach resort and the expansive view off their balcony that included the iconic Burj Khalifa. After one month of travelling, the couple returned home to Mississauga, where Ashley is the owner of flowerly and Alburt is the managing partner at build it by design.
