s fin de semana. Está lloviendo. Luce un cielo gris. Digo “luce” porque sorprendentemente me siento radiante, con una energía más propia del verano, momento en el que el sol nos muestra la versión más potente de todo cuanto nos rodea.

Tengo la inmensa fortuna de haber crecido en una familia en la que nos transmitieron, con su ejemplo, que cada uno de nosotros seríamos quienes decidiríamos ser. Vivir cada momento, cada experiencia, que cada amanecer nos aportara. Siempre supimos que nos sentiríamos acompañados en la vivencia. Pero en el “como vivirla”, cada uno sería el guionista de su propia historia.

Estoy compartiendo con vosotr@s aquello que me surge de manera espontanea.

Al principio me preguntaba a que respondía el hecho de que las pocas líneas que os comparto fueran en este sentido y parándome a pensar, veo que han venido al hilo del leitmotiv de Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week 2019: “Conquer the extraordinary”, eslogan que a buen seguro, suscitó en mi la melodía de esta partitura. ¡Qué frase más potente! ¡Cuantos y qué diversos mensajes nos transmite! Sentirnos seducidos por vivir cada situación de manera extraordinaria, promete ser, para cada uno de nosotr@s una aventura enriquecedora porque nos incita a caminar por un sendero que seguro nos conducirá a destinos mejores. Atreverse a salir de la zona de confort, para conquistar aquello extraordinario. “Si, puedes soñarlo puedes hacerlo”, que diría Walt Disney, ahora que su personaje más mítico cumple 90 años.

Todas y todos aspiramos, sobre todo en la dinámica de la preparación de una boda, a vivir una celebración mágica, hacerla extraordinaria y que se prolongue en el tiempo. Conquistarnos a nosotros mismos, para conquistar una vida juntos.

Por eso, yo os propongo extender este mensaje a nuestro día a día, conquistar aquello que de extraordinario pueda tener cada situación y salir de la rutina diaria. ¿Os apuntáis con nosotros?

No hay fórmulas infalibles para vivir nuestro día a día con plenitud, pero nadie nos impide incorporar a nuestra vida aquello que nos invite a vivirla de una manera excepcionalmente singular. ¡Os invito a intentarlo!

I

t’s the weekend. It’s raining. The sky looks gray. I say “looks” because surprisingly, I feel radiant, with the energy more typical of summer; that time of year when the sun enlivens our surroundings to their maximum potency.

I have the immense good fortune to have grown up in a family who, by way of example, transmitted to us the message that each one of us could be whoever we decided to be. To live every moment, every experience, that each dawn will bring. We always knew that we would have their supportive company throughout the experience, but in the “how to live it”, each one of has would have to write our own story.

I am sharing what comes to me spontaneously with you. At first I was wondering what the opening lines I have written in this missive responded to and then, I stopped thinking, I see that they were inspired by the Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week 2019 slogan: “Conquer the extraordinary”, beyond a doubt the words that inspired and inspire this current theme.

And what powerful words they are! How many and what different messages do those transmit to us? Being seduced to live each and every situation in an extraordinary way, it promises to be, for each of us, an enriching adventure because it encourages us to walk a path that will surely lead us to better destinations. They dare us to break out of our comfort zones, to conquer the extraordinary.

“If you can dream it, you can do it”, as the phrase attributed to Walt Disney goes, now that his most legendary character turns 90.

All of us aspire, especially when involved in the preparations for our weddings, to create and experience a magical celebration, to make it extraordinary and to prolong the magic in time. Conquer ourselves to conquer a life together. For that reason, I propose we extend this message to our day to day, to conquer the extraordinary that each and every situation may have and break out of our daily routines. Will you join us?

There are no infallible formulas to live our day to day to the full, but nobody can prevent us from incorporating something which invites us to live it in an exceptionally unique way.

I invite you to try it!

She was a wonderful woman and I loved her unconditionally. I loved my mother and my father very much, but my grandmother was special. She instilled her values in me , how to create a home, the Church, discipline ... I have learned everything from my grandmother. I learned how to treat people with respect.

¿Recuerda el momento en el que tuvo claro que se dedicaría al mundo de la moda?

Empecé en la moda siendo muy joven y decidí dedicarme a ello cuando estaba en la universidad. Me mudé a Nueva York en el 74, quería perseguir la moda y lo hice. La gente que me conocía me animó a ello. Iba a ser profesor, seguramente en alguna escuela privada, pero me dije: “Esto no es lo que tienes que hacer, tienes que irte a Nueva York y dedicarte a la moda porque es lo que amas”.

Do you remember the moment when it became clear to you that would devote yourself to the world of fashion?

I started in fashion when I was very young and decided to devote myself to it when I was in college. I moved to New York in ‘74, I wanted to pursue fashion and I did. The people who knew me encouraged me to do so. I was going to be a teacher, probably in a private school, but I said to myself: “This is not what you have to do, you have to go to New York and dedicate yourself to fashion because it’s what you love”.

La pasada edición de BBFW batió récords y cerró con números exitosos, 2019 será el año de conquistar lo extraordinario habiendo consolidado ya BBFW como la capital de la moda bridal mundial. ¿Cuáles son los principales objetivos marcados para BBFW 2019?

La posición de liderazgo que hemos conquistado durante estos últimos años ha puesto en evidencia que la estrategia de internacionalización por la que hemos apostado con determinación y constancia es clave en el crecimiento de la industria de este sector. Por esto queremos y tenemos que seguir conquistando la industria bridal mundial para que el sector esté siempre más representado en Barcelona. Europa (sobre todo Italia, Francia, Alemania, Portugal, Reino Unido, Rusia y otros países de la Europa del Este), EE.UU. y Latinoamérica seguirán siendo parte de nuestros países foco así como en los mercados asiáticos, sobre todo en China por su gran potencial comercial, y en Japón, por ser referente y dinamizador de tendencias en el extremo Oriente.

En 2018 fueron más de 370 marcas, el 68% internacionales, y 27 firmas las que desfilaron... ¿Se conocen ya los números para la próxima edición?

La campaña comercial está en plena efervescencia y estamos cumpliendo los objetivos. Aun así, es pronto para dar cifras concretas: BBFW ya es un referente internacional y lo más seguro es que consigamos superar los resultados de 2018. Además, me gustaría destacar que aunque las cifras sean muy importantes, otra prioridad para nosotros es preservar la calidad de la oferta, respetando nuestros propios valores e identidad. En este sentido, somos -y queremos seguir siendo- pioneros en detectar tendencias, en mostrar novedades y modelos de negocio, y en atraer oportunidades de crecimiento para todas las firmas que confían en nosotros en cada edición.

Del “The Power of Uniqueness” al “Conquer the extraordinary”, ¿qué mensaje se quiere transmitir al mundo con este eslogan y potente imagen de BBFW19?

A nivel personal, como directora de BBFW, ¿cuál es el mayor reto para usted y su equipo en el momento de ponerse a planificar una nueva edición?

El reto consiste en no dejar nunca de innovar para reflejar e incluso adelantarnos a los cambios que mueven constantemente el sector de la moda constituyendo el mejor escenario de tendencias, negocio y networking para las marcas. Hemos crecido mucho en los últimos años hasta convertirnos en el evento líder mundial de moda nupcial, nuestro valor es reconocido en todo el mundo y las expectativas son altas. Debemos satisfacer y superar las necesidades, tanto comerciales como de comunicación, de las firmas que se mueven en un mercado global, cada vez más competitivo. En este sentido, nuestro compromiso es seguir trabajando al lado de las marcas que participan en el evento, compartiendo con ellas objetivos, valores, retos y, sobre todo, ilusión.

There is continuity between the message of 2018 and that of 2019: the ‘extraordinary’ is the evolution of the concept of ‘uniqueness’. We continue to grow, and it is true, this year’s image is powerful and reflects our transgressive spirit as well as the drive towards the conquest of new spaces, markets, firms, designers and business formats. BBFW is a different event, its format is unique and we have broken with all the stereotypes that surround the bridal universe without losing our essence. We are nonconformist, we are passionate about creativity and this drives us to fight hard to renew the culture of the bridal world, seeking new horizons for fashion. You have to overcome limits, break boundaries, open up to the world and invite it to enter. From BBFW we launch a challenge to all those who are part of our universe: to conquer the extraordinary, together!

On a personal level, as the director of BBFW, what is the biggest challenge for you and your team when planning a new edition?

The challenge is to never stop innovating to reflect and even anticipate the changes that constantly move the fashion sector, constituting the best scenarios for trends, business and networking for brands. We have grown a lot in recent years to become the world’s leading bridal fashion event. Our value is recognized worldwide and expectations are high. We must meet and exceed the needs, both commercial and communication, of the companies that move in an increasingly competitive global market. In this sense, our commitment is to continue working alongside the brands that participate in the event, sharing our objectives, values, challenges and, above all, enthusiasm with them.

The main secret is the quality of the raw material at origin. If you respect it and treat it with love and devotion you get an exceptional product.

Xavier Mor Chocolatiers are chocolate artisans. Is one born with the gift or is it a learned skill?

I think it’s a bit of both. First you have to be born with the requisite curiosity and passion, and then you have to work hard on it.

El principal secreto es la calidad de la materia prima de origen. Si lo respetas y le das cariño y dedicación obtienes un producto excepcional.

Creo que es una mezcla de las dos cosas. Primero se tiene que nacer, tener esa inquietud y pasión, y luego la tienes que trabajar.

Hay muchos y muy buenos maestros chocolateros, pero háblenos sobre sus productos. ¿Qué sería lo más destacable?

La principal diferencia es que nosotros obtenemos el chocolate directamente del haba. Hoy en día hay muy pocos fabricantes de chocolate que lo obtengan así. ¿De qué manera interviene el chocolate en una celebración?

El chocolate es sinónimo de felicidad, perfecto para todo tipo de celebraciones. Somos de Bilbao y por un concurso de belleza llegamos a Barcelona, donde comenzamos a trabajar como modelos.

Viajamos por todas las capitales de la moda y aprendimos empapándonos del fashion Business. Todo aquello nos alimentaba, nos gustaba, vimos que era innato. ¿Qué podéis hacer posible las dos juntas ?

Tenemos la capacidad de que, en vez de sumar, multiplicamos. Por nuestra condición de gemelas tenemos una conexión especial. ¿En que es experta cada una ?

Cada una puede crear su propio universo y a la vez complementarse perfectamente. Estrella tiene sello propio, el maquillaje y la peluquería son su mundo. Una mezcla entre intuición e imaginación.

We are from Bilbao and by way of a beauty contest we ended up in Barcelona, where we began to work as models.

We traveled through all the fashion capitals and learned by immersing ourselves in the fashion business. Everything fed us, we liked it, we found out that we were born to it.

What does there being two of you mean you can do?

Nieves ha trabajado con grandes fotógrafos de la talla de Deborah Turdeville en la campaña para Bloomingdale´s dentro del palacio de Versalles, Claus Wickrath para su libro “ Flowerskin “, Marianne Chemetov y Carine Roitfeld (antigua estilista de Vogue Paris ) para la revista Taxi, o el fotógrafo Ben Oyne, Elfie Semontan.

En la actualidad trabajo haciendo maquillaje y peluquería.

Para Estrella uno de sus mejores recuerdos fue vivir en Paris y realizar el desfile de Chanel y el de Elena Benarroch en New York.

Después comenzó su carrera como artista multidisciplinar en Barcelona trabajando de estilista y en maquillaje y peluquería para diversas revistas de moda.

Sus trabajos han sido publicados en las paginas de Vogue , Paper New York, Marie Claire, Elle, GQ y un largo etc. Maquilla en colaboración con Dior España y sus creaciones han sido imágenes para Clientes como Hermés, Rochas,Laura Biagiotti.

Ha maquillado a rostros conocidos como Penélope Cruz, Diane Kruger, Ruigi Sakamoto, Alejandro Sanz o Bar Rafaeli entre otros.

Las dos juntas han realizado campañas mundiales como Piz Buin o Nivea.

What were your most unforgettable jobs as models and what’s the most memorable job you’ve done as makeup and hairdressing professionals?

Nieves has worked with great photographers of the stature of Deborah Turdeville in the campaign for Bloomingdale’s inside the Palace of Versailles, Claus Wickrath for his book “Flowerskin”, Marianne Chemetov and Carine Roitfeld (former stylist of Vogue Paris) for Taxi magazine, or photographer Ben Oyne, Elfie Semontan.

I currently work doing makeup and hairdressing.

For Estrella one of her best memories was living in Paris and performing the Chanel and Elena Benarroch fashion shows in New York. Later, she began her career as a multidisciplinary artist in Barcelona, working as a stylist and in makeup and hairdressing for several fashion magazines.

Her work has been published in the pages of Vogue, Paper New York, Marie Claire, Elle, GQ and a long etc. Make-up in collaboration with Dior Spain and her creations have been the images for clients such as Hermés, Rochas and Laura Biagiotti.

She has made up the faces of celebrities like Penelope Cruz, Diane Kruger, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Alejandro Sanz or Bar Rafaeli among others.

Together the two have done international campaigns for Piz Buin and Nivea.

La temperatura puede oscilar entre más 6 ó y menos 20 grados bajo cero. No hay que temer al frío, la cuestión es ir con la ropa adecuada, bien abrigado y disfrutar de un típico invierno helado.

Sin apenas turistas, es cuando Rusia presenta su cara más auténtica cubierta de nieve hasta los topes como una enorme tarta de nata.

El expreso Luces del norte transita solo en invierno aprovechando la línea regular entre Moscú, Murmansk y San Petesburgo, pero con vagones de lujo que son desenganchados en las estaciones para hacer excursiones y pernoctar en hoteles.

Un viaje en tren que se aventura fascinante, recorriendo seis regiones por la taiga y tundra, que lleva a conocer las entrañas de la geografía rusa, su cultura, costumbres y cuando es posible contemplar la magia del fenómeno de las auroras boreales que cubren por sorpresa el cielo.

Tras haber tomado el pulso dos días antes a la capital moscovita cubierta por las nieves, la adrenalina se dispara a las doce cuarenta de la noche cuando el tren emite su particular pitido de partida animado por músicos que pese a la nevada que cae, despiden alegremente a los pasajeros en el andén 16 de la estación moscovita de Leningrado. Es la estación más antigua de la capital rusa de 1844, totalmente renovada, de donde parten los trenes hacia las capitales del norte ruso, incluida San Petesburgo, y una de las nueve estaciones de tren con las que cuenta Moscú. La capital del país más grande del mundo refleja su monumentalidad y enormidad en sus cinco aeropuertos, las setecientas habitaciones del Kremlin, la Universidad estatal frente al bello parque de los gorriones, los almacenes de lujo GUM de la plaza Roja y las Iglesias ortodoxas de los zares sin contar la infinidad de teatros donde relumbra el Bolshoi,

After getting a little feel of the Muscovite Capital for two snow covered days, the adrenaline spurts at twelve forty at night when the train emits its own peculiar whistle, a departure accompanied by a group of musicians who despite the falling snow, merrily see passengers off from platform 16 of the Leningrad Moscow station. It is the oldest station in the Russian capital of 1844, completely renovated, from where the trains depart to the capitals of northern Russia, including St. Petersburg, and one of Moscow’s nine train stations. De noche se atraviesan estaciones y escenarios nevados y el traqueteo del tren mece para soñar con auroras. Al amanecer, atraídos por el aroma de un delicioso café recién hecho, antesala de un desayuno copioso, las ventanas del vagón restaurante se presentan como un cine abierto o una pantalla natural adentrándose en un paisaje de película, donde la nieve juega con el blanco en lagos congelados de la planicie, y el negro con los bosques de la taiga y los ríos. Zigzagueantes lagunas y bosques de coníferas parecen túneles que abrazan al tren.

Por la tarde un té con bollos espera en el vagón bar, con charlas de fábulas, cuentos y curiosidades de Rusia narradas por las guías que acompañan en el viaje. El pianista Víctor, ameniza las veladas con sus canciones mientras se transita por una naturaleza indómita que parece no haber sido conquistada si no fuera por las estaciones donde el tren se detiene y las aldeas y casas de madera antiguas que contemplan impasibles el paso del expreso diariamente.

La primera bajada es en la estación de Apatity para pernoctar en Kirovsk e ir al primer encuentro de la aurora boreal. Una pequeña ciudad cubierta de nieve donde se encuentran las minas de apatita más grandes del mundo. Cuenta con un centro de ski Big Wood y la curiosa aldeamuseo de hielo, con túneles y figuras que narran la vida y leyendas de la ciudad, junto al parque de enormes esculturas de hielo, construidas cada año hasta que el calor las derrite. De noche la expectación crece ante la idea de ver a la dama verde aunque esa noche no aparece y habrá que esperar e intentarlo de nuevo en Murmansk.

El camino entre Virosk y Murmansk depara una de las vistas más bellas del viaje. Cruza el lago Imandré, el segundo más grande del país que se pierde helado en la inmensidad como un bellísimo gigante helado sagrado para los samis. Cerca se encuentra un poblado sami, dónde

habita una familia de los casi dos mil nómadas lapones que quedan en la laponia rusa. Asentados con sus rebaños de renos y sus perros huskies invitan a dar paseos en trineo o en motonieve mostrando su cultura y costumbres.

MÚRMANSK O LAS MÁGICAS AURORAS Ya en el círculo polar ártico a orillas del canal del Mar de Barents, Múrmansk, capital de la península de Kola, aparece con su inmenso puerto sin hielo debido a las brisas de la corriente del golfo. Base naval de la flota rusa es donde se construyó en 1943 el primer rompehielos nuclear Lenin y Alyosha, la estatua más grande de Rusia. Múrmask es un enclave perfecto para disfrutar de nuevode las auroras boreales. Lo mejor es ir en medio del bosque, tener paciencia mientras se disfruta de un chocolate caliente y vodka, pintando el cielo con luces verdes como si fuera una película sideral. Un espectáculo único que al menos hay que ver una vez en la vida.

Por la mañana el tren parte atravesando más de mil kilómetros de paisaje que evocan la película del doctor Zhivago hacia su destino final : la imperial San Petesburgo que deslumbra con sus canales helados, diseñados por el ingeniero español Agustín De Betancour, el descomunal museo del Hermitage, la bulliciosa y animada avenida Nevski ,y el Palacio de Verano de Catalina la Grande, con la impresionante sala de ámbar colofón de un viaje inolvidable.

By night, stations are passed and snow-filled landscapes are crossed and the sound of the wheels on the tracks lull one to dream of auroras. At dawn, attracted by the aroma of delicious fresh coffee, harbinger of a copious breakfast, the restaurant car windows are like an open cinema or like a natural screen entering a film landscape, where snow plays with white in the frozen lakes of the plains, broken only by the black of the taiga forests and the rivers that cross the plains. Zigzagging copses and forests of conifers forests resemble tunnels that swallow the train as it passes through them.

In the afternoon a tea with buns awaits in the bar car, with affable chatter around fables, stories and anecdotes about Russia narrated by the guides that accompany the trip. The pianist Victor, entertains in the evenings with his songs while you travel through untamed nature that seems never to have been conquered but for the stations the train stops at and the villages and old wooden houses that watch impassively as the daily express passes by.

The first stop you can alight is at Apatity station, to spend the night in Kirovsk and approach your first meeting of the Northern Lights.

See the Big Wood ski resort and the curious ice village-museum, with tunnels and figures that tell the life and legends of the city, next to a park filled with huge ice sculptures, built every year until the heat melts them. At night the expectation grows at the thought of seeing the green lady although that night she doesn’t appear and we will have to wait and try again in Murmansk.

country, lost in the ice in the immensity like a beautiful ice giant, sacred to the indigenous Sami. Nearby is a Sami village, where a family of almost two thousand Lapp nomads remain in Russian Lapland. Seated with their reindeer herds and their huskies, they invite you to take sleigh or snowmobile rides to show you their culture and customs.

MURMANSK OR THE MAGIC AURORAS Once you reach the Arctic Circle on the shores of the Barents Sea, Murmansk, capital of the Kola Peninsula, appears with its immense ice free harbor kept that way by winds warmed by the Gulf Stream.

The Russian fleet’s naval base is where we find the first nuclear icebreaker, the Lenin and the Alyosha monument, the largest statue in Russia,built in 1943. Murmansk is the perfect place to see the Northern Lights again. The best thing to do is to go into the middle of the forest and to have patience while enjoying a hot chocolate and vodka while the phenomena paints the sky with green lights as if it were a sidereal movie. A unique show that must be seen at least once in a lifetime.

In the morning, the train goes through more than a thousand kilometers of landscape that bring the film Dr. Zhivago to mind, on towards its final destination: the imperial St. Petersburg dazzling with its frozen channels, designed by the Spanish engineer Agustín De Betancour, the huge Hermitage Museum , the bustling and lively Nevsky avenue, and the Summer Palace of Catherine the Great, with the impressive amber room, last stop of an unforgettable trip.
