I always feel so honored when invited to participate in bridal shoots because it lets me know others value and see the beauty in my work. It also gives me the chance to connect with and see the work of other vendors to refer to future clients. I was especially excited for this shoot because I have yet to do a black and white wedding. As soon as I received the inspiration board, I knew I wanted to keep the cake simple & clean. The venue has a very open floor plan with a lot of natural light and features modern artwork throughout, so I wanted the cake to reflect that with the bright, white base and contrasting black brush strokes to mimic a painting. When we combined the two, we had the most elegant, mountain wedding and one heck of a party (however.... there was still taxidermy, as it’s hard to lose that in Estes Park!). Whenever I think of Ireland, the thoughts of magical castles, beautiful interiors, and celebrating good times in the cottage-f illed little towns comes to mind. The second I found Morningside Manor in Colorado, I knew planning a St. Patrick’s Day themed styled shoot was an absolute must. I wanted to focus on bringing in elements that represented the holiday, but really emphasizing the vintage feel of the venue through moody lighting and poses. Inspiration for weddings always comes f rom the couples themselves but a big component of wedding design is the location, space and scenery. Devil’s Thumb Ranch is unlike any other and I drew inspiration f rom their scenic mountain views. For this shoot, I wanted something elevated, f resh, and ethereal and so this concept was born. With the Colorado summer mountains, the green pastures and blue skies in mind, we decided on bringing in light blues to balance the sky, and light purples and pinks to accent. The rustic chairs brought out the rusticness f rom the venue and the Lazaro dress, white trio cake and white lounge brought out a softness in the look bringing balance to everything. Everything was carefully designed and handpicked f rom the linens to plates to the exact spots where the tables and lounges were to be set. The pretty delicate details such as the flowers and stationery completed the overall look. Something I f ind success in when designing is bringing all vendors on board with a detailed mood board. Communication is key and valuing each vendor’s craft and work goes a long way. Working with them closely brings not only the look together but a trust unlike any other out there, bringing everything together in a beautifully designed cohesive look. - Erika Sandoval Event Planning & Design
