2. Early registration is encouraged. (2 weeks or more prior to class). Late registrants run the risk of having their course cancelled due to low enrolment or being placed on a waiting list due to high enrolment. Students are not considered registered until full payment is made. A full refund will be issued for all courses cancelled by WAACC. 3. Enjoy a 10% discount for registration fees paid before September 20. The discount does not apply to supply costs or the kids after-school program.

Make a variety of items in this fun, hands on class and discover different clay building techniques. All projects will be glazed and kiln fired. All skill levels. Fee includes supplies and firing.

Learn the basics of handling clay, glazing and fun decorating techniques. Go home with several finished projects including a trivet, a bowl, a mug and a fun container.

We are making a change in our drawing course this season by offering a 6 week beginner class. Students will complete small, basic projects. Covered will be drawing tools and how to use them, shading, proportion, and more.

Introduction to Water Colour NEW! A perfect class for trying out Watercolour Painting! This 5 week class will teach some basic skills, while sampling quality materials. Margot has designed exercises that will ease you into creating your very own watercolour paintings.

GLASS & METAL 3-D Stained Glass Angel NEW!

Fun class for beginners and intermediates alike. Students will make a 9” tall standing angel that can hold a candle if you choose.

All the basics of copper foiled stained glass will be taught in this class. Fee includes supplies except for glass which can be purchased at the centre.

Marissa from Leduc “Nature’s Best Rock and Gem” will bring a selection of gems for you to choose from. Then you will wirewrap with either sterling silver or gold-filled wire in a choice of designs.

FABRIC ARTS Brazilian Embroidery

The ancient craft of three dimensional embroidery, for beginners or the more experienced. A variety of stitches to create amazing, beautiful designs will be taught.

Students should bring a 5” embroidery hoop and scissors. Class will only go ahead with minimum 6 pre-registered students.

Hardanger

New students will learn basic stitches of Scandinavian Embroidery (Hardanger) and advanced students will work on their own projects or project suggestions as challenge pieces.

Quilting Project Time

For beginner to intermediate. Bring a new or existing project that you would like to work on. Instructor provides support and new skill development. This is not a structured instruction class. Students must bring a sewing machine in good working order, thread, fabric of their choice, cutting mat, ruler and rotary cutter.

Christmas Quilting!

One Day Workshop

Participants can choose to make a tree skirt, tablecloth or patchwork runner. Instructor may be open to other projects with prior discussion. Basic sewing skills are needed.

PHOTOGRAPHY & VIDEO Photoshop for Beginners

Four classes to get you over your fear of Photoshop. Get enough familiarity to dive in confidently in the most popular image editing program. Make an invitation, an event announcement and get started on your own project. Laptop (with mouse) with copy of Photoshop required (Photoshop 2 available free).

Beginners Point and Shoot Photography

Want to take better pictures with your point and shoot or iPhone camera? The focus (no pun intended) will be on composition… how to set up your subject and setting to achieve the picture you want. Every camera is slightly different, so please bring your manual to class. The Wetaskiwin photography club will be hosting this course. It is a great opportunity to meet “like-minded” photographers.

HOME & GARDEN Intro to Mosaics Workshop NEW!

Create your own original piece of art while learning the basics in mosaics by attending 3 sessions for a total of 8 hours. Design, composition, materials, cutting & laying, and grouting will all be covered. Supplies provided include: 10” x 10” framed mirror base, china, glass beads, adhesive and grout. Bring your own special beads, glass or jewelry to incorporate. No prior mosaic or art experience is necessary.

CRAFT CENTRE OPEN STUDIO TIMES NEW! Now available – non instructive studio time at the Centre.

Work on your pottery, ceramics, painting, quilting and fibre arts, stained glass, even scrapbooking and photography. WAACC requires that appropriate classes have previously been taken, or competency proven, before signing up for stained glass or pottery studio times. There will be a small fee involved with the membership.

Monthly meetings are held the second Wednesday of the month from 7pm to 9pm at the Craft Centre. Drop-in painting sessions are the fourth Thursday of the month from 1 pm to 3 pm. What is the Women of Aspenland?

The Women of Aspenland project preserves and tells the stories of women in our community. Each story reflects some of the diverse traditions that have shaped our collective identity as a community. The goal of the Women of Aspenland project is to document women’s history and understand the important roles of women over time.

The lives of these women are at the heart of the project, and their activities, unfurled over a period of more than 100 years, are viewed against the backdrop of settlement and modern history. Whether working in the home or in public life, they are all heroines.

As an ongoing exhibit the Heritage Museum pays tribute to the many women who made their own unique contribution to the community of Wetaskiwin City, County, and Maskwacis. The exhibit now includes over 80 ladies with up to four new inductees being showcased each year. We are always looking for recommendations, so stop by, let our heroines inspire you, and maybe even nominate someone you know.

Exhibit Spotlight Pioneer Playrooms

(Children’s Legacy Centre) Discover your inner pioneer in our unique hands-on and interactive playrooms.

Learn essential pioneer chores, such as fetching water from the old-fashioned pump, doing laundry with the wash-board & wringer, collecting eggs, and serving tea. Experience a one-room schoolhouse, live the farm life in the kitchen and farm yard, make purchases at the General Store, lounge in the parlour rooms, and much more. Let your imagination loose and come join the fun!

Pioneer Children Birthdays

Want a new birthday party idea? Taking place in our Children’s Pioneer Play Rooms, the Heritage Museum offers a unique 2 hour program where your children can dress up in pioneer costumes and experience what life was like for the pioneer child including making real butter, building sock teddy bears, and shopping for candy at the General Store. Ideal for 5 to 10 years olds, the program will be tailored depending on the age and gender of the children.

Time: by arrangement Fee: $10 per child. Extra charges apply for Butter making, Teddy Bear building, and General Store purchases.

Special Events and Programs Exhibit Opening Back to the Basics: Rural School Houses

Just in time for Back to School, join us as we reminisce about the various rural school houses across the County of Wetaskiwin.

Learn about their typical features, from the outhouse to the chalk board, how they were the heartbeat of our communities, and when and why they eventually consolidated. You will also be able to share in a variety of personal stories that tell what school was really like back in the day!

Women of Aspenland 2015 Induction Ceremony

Each October, in Celebration of Women’s History Month, we honour four new inductees into our Women of Aspenland exhibit by sharing their history, contributions, and personal mementoes through displays that can be viewed throughout the year. Join us as we celebrate the lives of our newest inductees: Dorothy French, Florence Buffalo, Lou Klone, and Kathleen Cutarm.

The Heritage Museum Remembers: Commemorating Peacekeepers and AboriginalCanadian veterans

Help us recognize community members who heroically served for our country in war and peacekeeping operations. This year, in honour of Aboriginal Veterans Day on November 8th and the new Maskwacis Veterans Memorial at the Samson Nation, we will be highlighting the contributions of members of the Cree Nations of Maskwacis who served during war time. We will also honour those from Wetaskiwin City, County, and Maskwacis who served during International peace missions.

It’s time to reduce, reuse, and recycle at the Heritage Museum. Take home with you pioneer tried and tested methods to help reduce your ecological impact.

Isobel Lomax and Dolly Biddle are two “mature” cable-access cooking show hostesses who have hated each other for 30 years, ever since Larry Biddle dated one and married the other. When circumstances put them together on a TV show called The Kitchen Witches, the insults are flung harder than the food!

Dolly’s long-suffering TV-producer son Stephen tries to keep them on track, but as long as Dolly’s dressing room is one inch closer to the set than Isobel’s, it’s a losing battle, and the show becomes a rating smash as Dolly and Isobel top both Martha Stewart and Jerry Springer! Comedy.

KidzCanYoga was created to give children and youth a safe place to create, play, and relieve stress in a healthy way through the practice of Yoga. This program sets a foundation for well-being and building selfesteem. Other benefits include: building healthy strong bodies, mind and spirit to help them cope with everyday stressors.

It improves focus and attention that can transfer into all areas of the child’s life. This class is for 9-12 year olds.

Beginner Yoga with Kim

This beginner class will offer a slow paced, relaxing start for your yoga journey. The hour spent together will be one of relaxing, stretching and learning how to turn off the mind chatter in order to be present in the moment. The class will focus on all aspects of yoga: breath work, movement and relaxation.

Yin Fusion with Wanda

Yin yoga is a slow paced class that is a great compliment to active lifestyles and is an effective tool to manage anxiety and stress. Poses are held longer to allow for a release in the more subtle energetic layers within the body and mind. This class combines Yin, Qi-Gong and Therapeutic Yoga techniques to apply gentle stimulation to the tissues with the aim of improving the flexibility, mobility and stability of joints.

Home Alone Safely

Al Arner Ball Diamonds Ages: 16+ Fall Fun Slo-pitch will be a recreational league consisting of 6 teams. This will be a mixed league consisting of 5 guys and 5 girls on the field. This is a fun league that will play one game per night twice a week for 5 weeks (no double headers). Balls and scorebooks will be included.

Manluk Centre Multipurpose Room Ages: 12+ The Babysitting Course is an interactive and fun day that will get you ready for your first job as a ‘professional babysitter’.

Youth Leadership & Advanced Aquatic Courses Begin your training to become a lifeguard

This course teaches lifesaving principles of water rescue education: judgement, knowledge, skill and fitness. Participants learn skills needed for challenging rescues of increased risk involving conscious and unconscious victims of various types.

Lifesavers develop stroke efficiency and endurance. Prerequisites: Bronze Star or 13 years old.

Bronze Star

National Lifeguard (NL)

Develop basic lifeguarding skills to help participants evaluate and adapt to different aquatic facilities and emergencies.

Understanding of lifeguarding principles, good judgement and a mature and responsible attitude toward the role of the lifeguard, prepares candidates to be professional facilitators of safe and enjoyable aquatics. Prerequisites:16 years old, Bronze Cross and Aquatic Emergency Care or Standard First Aid Date: December 18 - 23, 2015 Time: Friday, 4 - 9pm Saturday - Wednesday, 10am - 6pm Fee: $350

First Aid Courses Red Cross Standard First Aid (SFA)

This comprehensive two-day course satisfies work requirements; it is also for those who want more knowledge when responding to emergencies at home. This Red Cross course meets federal and provincial regulations for Standard First Aid and CPR and exceeds competitors’ standards by including injury prevention content, CPR and AED. Prerequisite: 12 years old Date: October 3 & 4, 2015 Time: 9am - 6pm Fee: $130

Aquatic Emergency Care (AEC)

Comprehensive training covering all aspects of first aid and CPR and the skills specific to emergencies in an aquatic setting, this course is a pre-requisite for lifeguards. Includes CPR C and AED certification. **AEC or Standard First Aid is a Pre-Requisite for the National Lifeguard Course.

Deep Water Aquafit

Often recommended for rehabilitation, it is also used for general fitness and as an accelerated training method for athletes.

The natural buoyancy of the water reduces strain on your joints, bones and muscles by as much as 90 percent. Take advantage of this buoyancy while receiving a similar cardiovascular benefit to a traditional workout. Participants may choose to use a floatation belt.

Perfect for people recovering from an injury, people with restricted mobility, seniors or those simply looking for light exercise.

Focusing on improving flexibility and mobility, participants who find exercising on land “challenging” can comfortably and safely be active in the water. Water is a forgiving medium, reducing joint compression and the downward pull of gravity. Enjoy this half hour class set to music; no swimming skills required.

Red Cross Swim Preschool

The love of swimming starts here. For children 4 months to 5 years of age. Songs, games and introductory swimming skills will make your child comfortable and happy in the water. The Instructor uses progressive teaching techniques adapted to each child and provides constant feedback and encouragement. Parents will participate in the water with their child till the age of 4.

Red Cross Swim Kids Lessons

A healthy life through swimming for children 6 years of age and up.

Children learn competitive and survival strokes, build their distance and speed, while focusing on making safe decisions in, on and around the water. In each level, participants are evaluated based on performance criteria and progress to the next level once all criteria have been successfully completed.

Adult & Teen Swim Lessons

A stand-alone stroke development program for adults and teens; this program is based on individual improvement designed to further develop strokes chosen by the swimmer in consultation with the Water Safety Instructor to increase swimming distances and proficiency. All starting levels are welcome.

A team of skilled and experienced physicians and prenatal nurses are committed to caring for maternity patients.

WETASKIWIN AND DISTRICT VICTIM SERVICES Victim Services provides support, information and referrals to victims of crime and tragedy.

Our free and confidential services are provided by a team of well-trained Volunteer Advocates, who respond as needed, alongside the RCMP, on a 24 hour basis.

How can Victim Services help?

Our program provides a continuum of services for victims. Including: Referrals, Crisis Intervention, Police-Liaison, Court Support, and Information about Programs and Benefits available to Victims.

Are you interested in Volunteering?

Volunteers are critical to the ongoing success of our organization.

We are looking for volunteers: • Must be 18 years of age • Must have a valid Driver’s License • Must be able to pass Security Clearance (and maintain it) • Must complete online training • Must be available on nights and weekends for at least 5 shifts per month • Must be a team player • Must have good communication skills • Must be able to respect confidentiality • Must be compassionate NOTE: Victim Services provides the necessary training for our Volunteer Advocates.

Camrose Women’s Shelter

Our 22 bed residence offers a safe place for women and children from Camrose and surrounding communities who are experiencing domestic violence or a crisis situation. We provide supportive counseling, information, referrals, childcare and an in-house school program for grades 1-9.

Our Outreach Program supports residential and non-residential women transitioning to independent living with cultural sensitivity.

Our 24/7 crisis line (1-877-672-1010) offers phone support regarding domestic abuse and family violence. Presentations are available on request.

Nutritious Beginnings

(Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program) Wetaskiwin Community Health Centre, 5610-40 Ave. Nutritious Beginnings supports mothers through their pregnancy and up to 12 months after their baby is born. The program offers a variety of free services including nutritional information, food coupons, prenatal vitamins and Vitamin D drops, support around challenges such as tobacco reduction, prenatal class (labour & delivery) and referrals to other community resources.

“Seeds of Change” Program

A comprehensive Family Violence Treatment Program which addresses the needs of adult individuals within a family unit. We provide group sessions with content to meet the specific needs of men and women who are, or have experienced violence, or any type of abuse within the family unit.

Women’s ‘Seeds of Change’ Programs

A healing group for women who have or are currently experiencing abuse in their relationships. Women begin their recovery from the abusive experience, develop their sense of self, adopt healthy communication styles, implement positive change in their lives and learn about healthy relationships in an encouraging, supportive and confidential environment. Programs are held twice per year for 12 weeks with a 2 ½ hour commitment per week and are held in Wetaskiwin only.

Men’s “Seeds of Change”

Programs run for 16 weeks with a commitment of 2 1/2 hours per week from our participants and are available in both Wetaskiwin and Maskwacis.

Counselling – Free

The Family Resource Centre offers cost free counselling for all individuals, specializing in the area of domestic violence, including issues such as separation/divorce, parenting after separation, grief, self-esteem and many other difficult issues individuals struggle with in life. All counselling programs are confidential.

5th Annual Mental Illness “Light the Darkness” Candlelight Vigil Touchstone Place Clubhouse Jubilee Park (54 St and 50 Ave) in Wetaskiwin Please join us for a candlelight vigil for Mental Illness Awareness Week and help us bring Mental Illness out of the darkness. It’s an inspiring night to commemorate those who have been affected by, are living with or has lost someone to mental illness, while also promoting that healing is possible. Chances are you know someone with a Mental Illness. You’re already living with it… Help weaken the stigma that keeps them from seeking treatment. Handing out of candles at 7pm. CanSkate

CanSkate is a 20 week learn-to-skate program that focuses on fun, participation and basic skill development. It is for beginners as well as for those wishing to improve basic skating skills. Skaters learn a complete series of balance, control and agility skills that pertain to hockey, ringette, speed skating and figure skating as well as general recreational skating. CanSkate uses nationally-tested and proven curriculum and delivery methods that guarantee skater success in developing stronger basic skills and developing them faster. Taught by NCCPtrained professional coaches, and assisted by trained program assistants. Lessons are given in a group format with a coach-tostudent ratio of a maximum 1:10. Skaters progress at their own rate and coaches use teaching aids, upbeat music and a wide variety of activities that create a motivational environment and promote learning. Badges, ribbons and other incentives are used to measure skaters’ progress and reward effort and participation.

Skaters have the opportunity to take Skate Canada Tests through a nationally standardized testing system.

Curling and Sturling are fun and affordable games for ALL members of the community. These games are healthy, safe activities that are both, reasonably priced AND allow families to experience a fun filled time TOGETHER. Currently, our curlers/sturlers range from 6 yrs old to 93 yrs young.

• Never been on the ice?- We offer instruction for all age groups and all skill levels.

• Don’t have a team/partner?- We can match you up with a team/partner and in a program that is enjoyable for you.

• Used to curl but can’t kneel/sweep anymore?- We have equipment, instruction and programs that will get you back on the ice and enjoying the game you once loved to play.

Set up and create email accounts in gmail and outlook, manage and send/receive email and attachments; using email apps on phones and tablets 4. Facebook: 4 hours. For new facebook users, set up, manage privacy and security settings, upload photos and text, find and share with friends, post information and photos 5. Skype for Everyone: 4 hours. An introduction to Skype and the many different ways to use Skype to communicate with friends and family.

Foster Care Foster care provides safe, caring homes to children and youth who, for a variety of reasons are unable to live with their own families. Committed and highly skilled staff and foster parents ensure the individual social, educational, emotional and physical needs of the children are being met until they return home, are adopted or another permanent solution is arranged.

FASD Outreach Program This home visitor program provides information, education, support, resources, mentoring services, coaching and advocacy to young adults ( up to 18 years of age) parents and caregivers with children who have (or are suspected to have) Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder.

There are no fees associated with enrolling or participating in the program.

Healthy Families Home Visitation Program This home visitor program is an early intervention program to support families in providing nurturing, stimulating and safe environments from birth to 5 years. Based on a review of their situation, families with new babies are offered the home visiting service by professional staff in a way that meets their specific needs. Connecting families to community supports is an integral part of the service.
