25 years ago we chose Manilva as our residence because of its strategic
location between Marbella and Sotogrande, as well as the cleanliness of its beaches and sea. Over the years Manilva has become a highly desirable place both to live and to enjoy vacations. Although this represents positive progress, it also brings certain drawbacks that begin to outweigh the benefits and generate complaints.
One of the first complaints we have received is that some people put themselves forward for public office in the Town Hall purely out of self-interest, failing to show any real improvements in the municipality For this reason we decided to contact Mr Mario Jiménez, our new Mayor, and see what his intentions may be. Web Express Guide asked the question:
Mr Mayor what is your view on what is needed doing to improve the management of our council and hopefully the general improvement of the area?
I have the honour of working for my town, for my people, for my neighbours, and for those who have come to Manilva to contribute to its development. I entered politics out of a sense of public duty and with the vocation of serving the community. That is why I started from the very bottom and moved forward step by step as I took on new responsibilities. Now, as mayor, I feel tremendously proud to represent the place where I was born and where I live. I therefore know every detail of its needs But it is true that, as in every profession, there are people who want to take advantage of politics and use it for self-promotion or personal gain My only interest is to improve the quality of life of my fellow citizens

Fiesta de la Vendimia – Manilva Grape Harvest Festival
Dates the event took place: Saturday 6 & Sunday 7 September 2025
Manilva celebrated its annual Grape Harvest Festival; one of the Costa del Sol’s most cherished traditions, celebrating the local Muscatel grape and the town’s deep-rooted winemaking heritage.
Highlights that took place
Friday evening: Traditional flamenco festival opens the celebrations
Saturday & Sunday: Mass and procession in honour of Our Lady of Sorrows Grape-stomping ceremony – the symbolic start of the harvest
Tasting of the year’s first wine must
Streets of Manilva Pueblo transformed into a vibrant fiesta with music, dance, and local flavour.
Did You Know? Manilva’s Secret is in the Grapes
Manilva isn’t just about beaches and whitewashed streets – it’s also home to a centuries-old winemaking tradition. The town’s vineyards, dominated by the Moscatel de Alejandría grape, once formed the backbone of its economy, producing sweet wines and raisins famed across Spain.
After a period of decline, Manilva’s wine culture is thriving again. Local wineries and projects like Nilva Enoturismo have revived abandoned vineyards, crafting awardwinning wines – including a dry Moscatel that scooped a national prize Today, visitors can tour vineyards, sip wine overlooking the Mediterranean, and even join the annual Fiesta de la Vendimia grape harvest festival each September. With its unique microclimate and sea-breeze-kissed terroir, Manilva is quietly becoming one of Andalusia’s most exciting wine destinations
30 September: Enchanted Evening likely a moonlit or themed event celebrating local culture.
30 September: Fandango Contest rustic Andalusian singing and dancing competition to close the month in style
While Manilva might not have other major events in September, nearby towns offer tempting visits:
Comic-Con Málaga: From 25 to 28 September, Málaga hosts the firstever international edition of San Diego Comic-Con, featuring celebrity panels, stunning exhibits, and pop-culture highlights. A fun day trip for fans.
Discover both heritage and natural charm beyond the festivals: Castillo de la Duquesa & Museo Arqueológico – a historical fortress with Roman ruins, a villa, and a museum
Torre de la Duquesa – a 16th-century coastal watchtower built to guard against pirates
Iglesia de Santa Ana – a beautiful Mudéjar-style church constructed between 1776–1783
Ancient Archaeological Site – the nearby Bronze Age hill fort of Los Castillejos de Alcorrín offers insights into early settlement activity

From Manilva, Tarifa is just a little over an hour’s drive (about 70 km) along the scenic Costa del Sol coast road If you’re coming from Marbella, expect around 1 hour 45 minutes, while from Gibraltar it’s a breezy 45 minutes The journey itself is part of the adventure, with coastal views and glimpses of the Strait of Gibraltar along the way.
Tarifa’s old town is packed with family-friendly tapas bars and small eateries where you can sample local tuna (atún rojo de almadraba), fried fish platters (pescaito frito), and hearty Andalusian stews Unlike the more polished resort towns, Tarifa keeps things authentic and laid-back, making it easy to settle into a long, relaxed lunch with kids in tow
The area around Tarifa is famous for its vast sand dunes, particularly the Duna de Bolonia, where kids can climb, roll, and run endlessly. For nature lovers, the nearby Los Alcornocales Natural Park offers shaded trails and picnic spots, while the beaches themselves are wide, clean, and dotted with kite surfers adding colour to the horizon
Families can make the most of Tarifa’s outdoors with camping sites close to the beach perfect for budget-friendly stays For something a little more comfortable, there are plenty of glamping options offering eco-friendly lodges and stylish tents, blending comfort with the charm of sleeping under the stars
Perhaps the most magical part of a trip to Tarifa is standing on the southernmost point of mainland Europe, where the Mediterranean Sea meets the Atlantic Ocean The views are breathtaking, with Morocco visible across the water on a clear day an unforgettable sight for both adults and kids.
For over ten years, the legendary beach car has become a true symbol of elegance and freedom. An icon of sunny coastlines, it evokes the art of living from an era where every moment was defined by simplicity and refinement.

Tourism represents over 12% of Spain’s GDP, making it vital to the country s economy So instead of focusing on speculation and misleading claims, let’s look at the facts
For the second year in a row, foreign arrivals between January and July topped 50 million, reaching 55.5 million visitors.
According to INE, the British remain Spain’s largest source of tourists, despite claims to the contrary
In the first seven months, the UK contributed nearly 11 million visitors (up 43%), followed by France with 71 million (+17%) and Germany with 69 million (+16%) Among Britons, the most popular destinations are the Costa del Sol especially Marbella and Estepona and the Costa Blanca, with hotspots including Alicante, Benidorm, and Torrevieja
Other markets are also showing strong growth, with Turkey, the US, Poland, and Ireland projected to exceed 10%, according to the Ministerio de Industria y Turismo
Spending figures confirm the strength of the sector. From January to July, average tourist spending rose to €1,493 (+44%), while daily spending grew to €210 (+69%) By country, the UK led with 176% of total expenditure, followed by Germany (117%) and France (81%) These three also topped July spending
Rising prices particularly along the Costa del Sol have tightened restaurant competition as locals and visitors dine out less often, though not drastically This helps explain why overall spending rose more sharply than tourist numbers (45 points higher)
Looking ahead, the outlook remains strong International flight capacity for September is expected to reach 122 million seats, 36% more than last year Spain continues to hold its edge as a top destination valued for its proximity, affordability, security, and stability both for holidays and for long-term residence
