SMART HOME EXPERIENCE

TOTAL HOME CONTROL: SECURITY, COMFORT AND PEACE OF MIND In the Torreguadiaro and Sotogrande area, there is one long-established company with the experience, and qualifications to transform a home into a fully integrated, digitally controlled residence. Today’s technology allows virtually every aspect of a property to be managed intelligently—from security and access to lighting, climate, entertainment and energy. The result is a home that is not only more comfortable and convenient, but also safer and more efficient, whether you are enjoying it in person or are thousands of kilometres away. A fully digitalised home can provide complete security and access control. Intruder alarms, CCTV, video door entry, perimeter protection, smart locks and controlled gates can all work together as one integrated system. Occupiers can receive instant alerts to their phone and check cameras remotely, while authorised family members, staff or contractors can be given controlled access without compromising security. Comfort can be equally comprehensive. Lighting, heating, air conditioning, blinds, curtains and other electrical systems can be programmed to respond automatically to time, occupancy, temperature or personal preferences. With a simple touch—or automatically according to pre-set scenes— the entire property can be prepared for dinner, entertaining, relaxation or bedtime.

For owners who spend part of the year away, remote management is particularly valuable. Before arriving, the air conditioning can be switched on, blinds opened, selected lights activated and security settings adjusted. During an absence, the property can be monitored continuously, with alerts for unexpected activity, water leaks, power failures, unusual temperatures or other potential problems. Entertainment can also become effortless. Television, music, streaming, home cinema and multi-room audio can be controlled throughout the property, creating a seamless experience for both everyday living and entertaining guests. Energy management provides another important benefit. Intelligent control can reduce unnecessary consumption by ensuring that lighting, climate control and other systems operate only when required. Most importantly, all these functions can be brought together into one coherent, easy-to-use system, rather than a collection of unrelated devices and apps. For homeowners anywhere, professional integration means more than installing technology. It means creating a home that quietly looks after itself—providing security, comfort, convenience and peace of mind 24 hours a day, wherever the occupants may be.

12th of October EL DE LA HISPANIDAD National day of Spain & national holiday. While most Europeans learn that Christopher Columbus discovered America on the 12th October 1492, Spain celebrates this day as the day Cristobel Colon landed in the Bahamas. The day also coincides with the day of the Virgen del Pilar patron saint of the Guardia Civil. A very important day for all Spanish nationals as well as countries of Spanish origin. AS the mayor of Manilva, Mario Jimenez said” Today we celebrate the meeting between Europe and the Americas—an event that changed history and left behind a cultural and linguistic legacy shared by millions of people. On this significant day, we are also presenting awards to recognize the contributions of the Manilva community in the areas of solidarity, entrepreneurship, and distinction. May we always have health, friendship, and pride in our roots! Happy day to everyone!” He also gave his best wishes to the Police Force:

´´Today, I would like to wish the entire Manilva local police force a happy Patron Saint's Day. They perform wonderful work, sometimes misunderstood, but they have my full support and backing, as well as the necessary staffing, to continue carrying out their extraordinary mission. Huge congratulations to everyone!!” A HUGE DAY with huge celebrations all over the Spanish World, nevertheless life must continue and Mario’s determination with his work to improve the area and the standard of living of all residents as well as visitors continues undeterred.

EDITION 303 OCTOBER

WEB EXPRESS GUIDE

The City Council is planning a water park in Friendship Square Responding to the residents' demands, the Infrastructure and Works Department plans to transform the Plaza de la Amistad, next to Martín Carpena, into a recreational space with water features. The aim is to create a refreshing workspace for the enjoyment of residents and visitors, especially the youngest, during the summer months.

Preparing the coastline for the first rains The Councillor for Infrastructure and Works, Marcos Ruiz, and the Councillor for Beaches, Gema Zotano, have planned work to open, clean and unclog the pipes that flow into different areas of our coastline, in anticipation of future rains. In addition, as usual, daily work is also carried out on the beaches.

Project for more than 600 underground parking spaces in the green corridor Councillor for Urban Planning, Juan Carlos Morejón, reports on the proposal received for the underground parking project in the Green Corridor, which connects the Port of La Duquesa with El Castillo. This project proposes just over 600 parking spaces, which would solve the parking shortage in this important area of our municipality. Municipal technicians are currently conducting the study, which will be ready in the coming weeks, in order to issue the administrative concession.

The Tourism Delegation analyzes the positive tourism figures for the summer The Tourism Department of the Manilva City Council, headed by Agustín Vargas, highlights the positive evolution of the main tourism indicators during the summer of 2026. Tourist accommodation, occupancy reached 72.40% in July, 3.5 points higher than the same month of the previous year, with an average price of €55.25. In August, occupancy reached 82.30%, registering an increase of 0.7 points compared to 2015, with an average price of €55.17. Employment in the tourism sector also reflects a favourable evolution, with an increase of 4.24% during the second quarter of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025. All the information about our town on this subject can be found in the Big Data of Tourist Data, available on the official website of the Manilva Town Hall.

We invite residents and business owners to share their thoughts, comments, and suggestions. With open dialogue and collective effort, we can support the new mayor in developing positive, lasting solutions that continue to improve the quality of life for everyone in the Manilva area. Please send us a note at editor@webexpressguide.com and we shall put it forward to the 17 Mayor for a response.

SABINILLAS: COASTAL LIVING WITHOUT THE MARBELLA PRICE TAG

Affordable seaside homes, a traditional Spanish atmosphere and growing demand are putting San Luis de Sabinillas firmly on the Costa del Sol property map. For buyers dreaming of a home by the Mediterranean, San Luis de Sabinillas, in the municipality of Manilva, offers an increasingly attractive alternative to the more expensive property markets of Estepona and Marbella. With its sandy beaches, lively promenade and relaxed, traditional Spanish character, Sabinillas combines coastal living with a more accessible price tag

What Can You Buy in Sabinillas? Property prices vary according to location, size, condition and proximity to the sea. Compact, one- or two-bedroom apartments within walking distance of the beach typically cost between €225,000 and €289,000. Many have been renovated, making them appealing to buyers seeking a holiday home or a permanent base in southern Spain.

For those wanting more space, larger two- to fourbedroom apartments in central locations, particularly those offering sea views, generally range from €295,000 to €320,000. Some also include parking and generous living areas. At the upper end of the market, new developments, penthouses and ground-floor properties with private gardens or direct beachfront access command prices of €425,000 to €750,000 or more. Across the area, advertised prices broadly range from €2,300 to €4,500 per square metre, reflecting the considerable differences between property types and locations.

Why Is Demand Growing? Sabinillas is benefiting from a combination of strong demand and limited housing supply. Its appeal to international buyers, holiday-home owners and people relocating to the Costa del Sol has increased competition for available properties. Meanwhile, rising prices in neighbouring areas, including Estepona and Sotogrande, are encouraging buyers to look west towards Manilva in search of better value.

How Does It Compare? Estepona typically commands prices around 20–30% higher than Sabinillas, while Marbella can be 40–60% more expensive per square metre. A budget of €200,000 to €310,000 may secure a comfortable resale apartment in Sabinillas, whereas comparable properties in Marbella can cost €400,000 to €600,000 or more.

H O U S E

“My aim is to create work that does more than occupy a space, but creates an emotional experience” For over 25 years, Doreen Ingebrigtsen has been dedicated to painting and exhibiting her work internationally, with collectors of her art around the world. Her artistic practice is inspired by the living world and explores the many ways in which nature can evoke emotion, movement, and a sense of connection. Doreen moves fluidly between acrylic and oil, creating expressive florals and dynamic abstracts alongside highly detailed, hyperrealistic studies of animals. This contrast enables her to explore both the energy and spontaneity found in nature and its quieter, more watchful presence. Working from her studio in Sotogrande, Doreen uses tactile brushwork and expressive markmaking to bring warmth, movement, and character to each painting. Her intention is to create work that does more than simply occupy a space; she seeks to create an emotional experience that invites the viewer to pause, connect, and feel. Her art business has been designated a “Trusted Art Seller” by The Art Storefronts Organization, providing collectors with confidence in the quality and value of her work.

Doreen is now also looking to expand her artistic practice by offering art classes and creative workshops in Sotogrande. She hopes to build this new part of her work around a genuine community of people who are passionate about art and eager to develop their own creativity, skills, and individual artistic voice. Her aim is to encourage others to explore their talent, discover the enjoyment of creating, and contribute their own unique perspectives to the wider art world. ESTEPONA GUIDE A Taste of Latin American Culture 17 October | Parque El Calvario One of the month’s community highlights is Estepona’s Día de la Cultura Latina. The celebration brings together Latin American traditions through food, crafts, folklore and family entertainment, reflecting the diverse cultures represented in the local community. Theatre and the Performing Arts The Teatro Auditorio Felipe VI is Estepona’s principal venue for theatre, dance, opera and live entertainment. Its programme regularly features touring productions, Spanishlanguage theatre and performances for different audiences. For the remainder of October, check the official calendar for available performances, particularly if you are looking for an evening activity that goes beyond the usual restaurant or bar visit. Family Activities Families looking for something different can explore the activities scheduled around the Palacio de Exposiciones y Congresos, including the City Jump inflatable attraction, advertised through 25 October. It is worth checking the organiser’s current opening times, age requirements and ticket availability before visiting.

Discover Estepona’s Open-Air Art One of the town’s most distinctive features is its collection of large-scale murals. The Ruta de Murales takes visitors through different neighbourhoods, where entire building façades have been transformed into colourful works of art. It is an enjoyable way to explore areas beyond the traditional tourist centre while discovering another side of Estepona’s creative identity. Pick up a route map or consult the municipal tourism information before setting off.

What’sNews? Can anyone stop Donald Trump? The only thing that can stop me is my own morality,” Donald Trump told The New York Times. It was a chillingly blunt admission that he believes power - military, economic or political - is his to use. As he holds court wherever he goes, Europe should be clear-eyed: Trump sees national strength, not laws or treaties, as the final arbiter when powers collide. Congress looks weak, courts uncertain, allies divided. Even those closest to him appear unable - or unwilling - to restrain him. The leadership lesson? When leaders believe they are unchecked, restraint becomes optional, and history tells us that rarely ends well. Variety keeps you alive. Doing the same thing well is often praised. But a major new study from Harvard University suggests that mixing things up may matter more than we think. Tracking more than 110,000 people over 30 years, researchers found that those who did a wider variety of physical activities had a 19% lower risk of early death, even when the total amount of exercise was the same. In short: variety beats routine. The leadership lesson is obvious. Strength comes from range. Organisations - like bodies - thrive when they crosstrain: different skills, perspectives, and experiences. Stick rigidly to one way of doing things, and you may be fit, but fragile

MORE THAN THE BRITISH ARMY. Around 86,000 people have crossed the Channel in small boats since Labour came to power in July 2024. To put that into perspective, the entire Regular British Army numbers just 73,660. In other words, the number of people arriving across the Channel during a little over two years is greater than the full Regular strength of the Army. That comparison does not make those arriving an “army”; it simply gives scale to a number that is otherwise difficult to comprehend. Why leaders should care: Big numbers rarely mean much on their own. Good leaders give people context. Comparisons make scale understandable, memorable and harder to ignore. Your action: When presenting a large statistic, ask: what familiar comparison would help people grasp its true scale? STARLINK DOMINATES THE SKY. There are now more than 11,000 active Starlink satellites orbiting Earth. Remarkably, that means Elon Musk’s SpaceX operates roughly two thirds of all active satellites in orbit. What began with just two prototype satellites in 2018 has become the largest satellite constellation ever created, delivering broadband internet to homes, aircraft, ships - and increasingly vehicles - from low Earth orbit. Why leaders should care: Transformation often happens gradually and then suddenly looks enormous. Starlink is a reminder that scale can change an industry before many of us have even noticed it happening. Your action: Look at your own sector and ask: what is growing quietly today that could dominate the landscape tomorrow.

AI IS HELPING HOLD UP THE WORLD ECONOMY. Artificial intelligence is no longer simply changing how we work. It is now helping support global economic growth. The OECD expects the world economy to grow by 2.9% this year and 3.0% next year, despite higher energy costs and continuing disruption from the Middle East conflict. One reason it has proved more resilient than expected is the scale of investment in AI, which the OECD says is supporting production, trade and economic activity. There is a warning. The OECD says growth remains vulnerable to energy disruption, higher interest rates and the possibility that returns on AI investment disappoint. Why leaders should care: AI has moved from being a technology story to an economic one. Investment decisions being made today are already influencing global growth. Your action: Stop asking whether AI will affect your organisation. Ask where it already is, and whether you are capturing the benefit.

The Stress of Entertaining Why Hosting Dinner Guests Makes Spaniards Nervous Inviting friends over for dinner

Around 54% host friends or relatives at least monthly, broadly matching the European average. Greece, Portugal and Germany also report high levels of regular entertaining.

prepared dishes, many hosts worry about whether everything will go according to plan. A European survey commissioned by household appliance brand AEG suggests that this anxiety is particularly pronounced in Spain, where 51% of respondents say cooking for guests makes them feel stressed.. The research surveyed approximately 11,000 people across 11 European countries and highlights a dilemma shared by many home entertainers: the desire to express their individuality while meeting expectations of a perfect gathering. Although 70% of European respondents prefer hosting in their own style, 69%

Indeed, enjoyment remains an important part of the experience. Across Europe, 39% associate hosting with happiness, while 29% connect it with excitement. The challenge is finding a balance between these positive emotions and the expectation that every detail must be right. Changing social habits may be influencing that balance. According to the survey, 59% of Spanish participants believe the meaning of being a good host has evolved in recent years. Across Europe, this shift is reflected in a preference for more informal gatherings and personal touches. Authenticity versus perfection Today's hosts increasingly want their gatherings to reflect their personalities. They may reinvent traditional recipes, decorate the table around a particular theme or put a contemporary twist on family celebrations. The qualities Europeans value most in a host are respect, warmth and individuality. Nevertheless, the fear of accidents and imperfections remains influential. More than half of respondents say they have avoided certain foods, drinks or decorative choices because of the possibility of spills or stains. This tension suggests that the pressure to impress can undermine the very qualities that make entertaining enjoyable. Instead of focusing on conversation and companionship, hosts may become preoccupied with controlling every detail. Five ways to welcome guests The AEG research identifies five hosting styles: the perfectionist, who plans meticulously; the attentive host, who prioritises guests' comfort; the architect, who carefully designs the occasion; the alchemist, who embraces improvisation; and the wildcard, who adapts to each gathering. The profiles illustrate that hospitality has no universal formula. Some people thrive on preparation, while others prefer spontaneity. Technology may also help ease the burden. Among Spanish respondents, 74% say they would consider using artificial intelligence to find recipes or adapt dishes to available ingredients. Such tools could simplify planning and leave hosts more time to enjoy their guests. Because the research was commissioned by a commercial brand, its findings should be interpreted in that context. Nevertheless, it raises a familiar question: if the purpose of inviting people home is to share good moments, shouldn't enjoyment matter more than perfection? Perhaps the secret to better hosting is not an immaculate table or a flawless menu, but making everyone feel welcome—including the person doing the cooking.

Life with Your Pet on the Costa del Sol Explore Nature Together

The Costa del Sol, with its golden beaches, charming whitewashed villages and relaxed Mediterranean lifestyle, is an ideal destination for dog lovers. Whether you are a resident or planning a holiday with your four-legged companion, a little preparation can help you make the most of this beautiful corner of southern Spain.

Choose the Right Place to Stay Finding pet-friendly accommodation is the first step. Many hotels, holiday apartments and rural villas welcome dogs, particularly in areas such as Marbella, Estepona, Fuengirola and Mijas. Before booking, check the property’s pet policy, additional fees, size restrictions and access to outdoor spaces. A terrace, garden or nearby park can make all the difference.

Beyond the beaches, the region offers wonderful opportunities for walking and adventure. The countryside around Mijas, the coastal paths near Estepona and the natural surroundings of the Sierra de las Nieves provide beautiful scenery for outdoor excursions. Choose routes suited to your dog’s fitness, keep it under control where required, and respect local wildlife and protected areas.

Eat, Drink and Relax The Costa del Sol’s café culture is another reason to travel with a pet. Many restaurants and beach bars welcome well-behaved dogs on outdoor terraces, although individual policies differ. Ask before settling down, carry a collapsible water bowl and choose shaded seating whenever possible.

Keep Your Dog Safe

Discover Dog-Friendly Beaches One of the greatest pleasures of the Costa del Sol is enjoying the sea with your dog. Several municipalities provide designated dog-friendly beaches, including areas in Fuengirola, Marbella and Casares. However, access rules vary by location and season, so always check the latest municipal regulations before visiting. Bring fresh water, a portable bowl, towels and waste bags, and avoid the hottest hours of the day.

Andalusian summers can be extremely hot. Walk early in the morning or after sunset, avoid scorching pavements and never leave a dog inside a parked car. Ensure vaccinations, identification and parasite prevention are up to date. If travelling from abroad, check the applicable pet passport, microchip and rabies vaccination requirements before departure. The final word: Life with a dog on the Costa del Sol is about enjoying simple pleasures together: a sunrise stroll, a shaded lunch or a peaceful coastal walk. With responsible planning and respect for local rules, your pet can become part of every memorable Mediterranean adventure.
