CHARITY EVENT AT PLAZA BLANCA AND THE OPENING OF "FLORA AND FAUNA" AT WHITE SQUARE ART GALLERY

On Saturday, April 19th, Plaza Blanca came alive with a meaningful Easter charity event that brought neighbors, families, and friends together in a joyful celebration of community and compassion. The event supported two local charities-one in La Línea and one in San Roque-reinforcing the spirit of giving and solidarity that defines our region @centrocontigo, @apoyomutuo sanroque

In harmony with the season of renewal and growth, White Square Art Gallery chose this special day to debut its new thematic exhibition, "Flora and Fauna." Welcoming spring with vibrant energy, the gallery showcased a collection that celebrates the natural world-bursting with colour, life, and imagination through the work of many talented artists.

This event was more than just an artistic unveiling; it was a heartfelt gathering that honoured nature, nurtured our community bonds, and contributed to causes that truly matter.

FEATURED ARTIST ON EXHIBITION AT WHITE SQUARE ART GALLERY

Ekaterina Chernysheva is a multidisciplinary artist who works with painting, ceramics, sculpture, and recycled brooches. She transforms discarded materials broken glass, plastic debris, rusted metal, and worn wood into intricate, miniature sculptures full of color, texture, and symbolism.

Through upcycling, Chernysheva challenges overconsumption and reimagines urban remnants as objects of beauty and meaning. Her work offers a powerful reminder that what is abandoned can be reborn through art.

Each piece carries its own history, inviting viewers to see value in the overlooked. In Chernysheva’s hands, fragments of the past become vibrant expressions of renewal. See Ekaterina artwork exhibiting at White Square Art Gallery. @kat.artista

A Celebration of Faith, Tradition, and Andalusian Spirit

La Romería del Rocio is one of Spain’s most cherished traditional celebrations a vibrant pilgrimage that blends religious devotion, community pride, and festive joy Rooted in Catholic tradition, it honours a local patron saint or the Virgen del Rocío, and is often tied to spring and harvest rituals

Taking place in late May, Romerías are especially popular in Andalucía, where villages and towns organise colourful processions through the countryside People dress in traditional flamenco or country attire, ride horses or ox-drawn carts, and share music, food, and prayer along the way

 What to Expect:

Traditional Costumes: Locals wear trajes de flamenca and campero outfits Don’t be surprised to see elaborately decorated carriages

Festive Atmosphere: Expect live music, group dancing (sevillanas), and picnic-style meals in the open air

Religious Processions: Many groups carry statues or banners of saints to rural hermitages (ermitas), often followed by a festive mass

✔ Tips for Visitors:

Plan for the Heat: It’s usually warm by late May bring a hat, sunscreen, and water if you're following the procession.

Respect Local Customs: While it’s festive, La Romería still has deep spiritual roots. Be mindful during religious moments.

Join In: Visitors are often welcome to walk alongside or observe just ask politely and enjoy the warmth of Andalusian hospitality.
