As a publication located in Manilva and dedicated to foreign nationals we do not pretend to understand the different political parties but we are concerned about how our local council is managed in the interests of a growing number of foreign nationals living in the area, about 25% British.

Over the last 27 years in the area we can see the obvious difference that Mario Jimenez is making in managing the local council, and for that reason we have accepted to publish these articles and inform all readers of the constant improvements that this man is making as a reminder when voting day comes round again.

New service road and 100 parking spaces to improve connectivity in Chullera The Councillor for Infrastructure and Works, Marcos Ruiz, has signed the site handover document and the authorization for the start of the urbanization works of the AL-5 sector “Camping Chullera II”, an important action that will improve access and mobility in this area of ​the municipality. The event that was also attended by the Mayor of Manilva and will result in: – Creation of 100 free access parking spaces.

– Installation of acoustic screens to reduce the impact of traffic.

– Improvements aimed at increasing road safety and traffic flow.

Planning summer activities and the big enchantment night The Councillor for Tourism, Agustín Vargas, and the Councillor for Culture, Eva Galindo, held a coordination meeting with their respective teams to advance the planning of joint activities that will take place during the summer season in Manilva.

The works include widening the access to El Goleto through Jade Street and creating new parking areas and sidewalks.

Sabinillas road with new connection to improve mobility Manilva Town Council continues to make progress in improving the municipality's road infrastructure with the creation of a new road on Isaac Peral Street in Sabinillas, which will directly connect this area with the town centre of Sabinillas, promoting more comfortable and safer traffic flow.

The mayor of Manilva, Mario Jiménez, accompanied by the delegate of Infrastructure and Works, Marcos Ruiz, the area director Alejandro Medina and a municipal technician, visited the works to supervise the development of a work of great importance for the municipality.

Consensus to guarantee the right to rest and leisure in the municipality The mayor of Manilva, Mario Jiménez, and the councilor for Commerce, Agustín Vargas, have held a meeting with local hoteliers with the aim of reaching a consensus that allows the right of residents to rest to be compatible with the leisure offerings in the municipality.

During the meeting, the importance of maintaining a balanced and healthy coexistence between residents, visitors and business owners was highlighted, emphasizing dialogue and collaboration among all parties involved.

GRILLED LOBSTER ‌L OBSTER TAIL INSTRUCTIONS INGREDIENTS GRILLED LOBSTER TAIL INGREDIENTS 2 LOBSTER TAILS 2 TBSP OF OLIVE OIL SALT AND PEPPER TO TASTE CHIVE BUTTER SAUCE INGREDIENTS (OPTIONAL) 1/2 STICK OF BUTTER 1 TBSP FRESH CHIVES 1 TBSP PAPRIKA 1 CLOVE OF MINCED GARLIC SALT AND PEPPER TO TASTE

1.Using scissors, cut the lobster tails shell down the back making sure to only cut the shell. Do not cut the tail.

With a knife, cut the lobster tails down the line you cut with the scissors making sure not to cut all the way through the lobster. Fold the lobster tails in half so that the meat is exposed from the cutting side. Season the lobsters with olive oil, salt, and pepper.

2.Light the in a charcoal chimney or inside your grill and let burn for 10-15 minutes. (Optional) Add 3-4 small pieces of apple wood to the top of the charcoal for added flavour!

3.When the fire is at a nice medium to medium high heat, place the lobster tails on top of grill grate with flesh side down first. Let cook for about 6 minutes per side.

4.(Optional) If you want to serve with the Chive Butter Sauce, place all the ingredients into a cast iron skillet and set on top of fire. Let cook until the butter is nice and melted. Once melted, use a brush to apply butter to the lobster tails.

5.Serve and enjoy your Grilled Lobster Tails!

SELF-DRIVING CARS THROUGH THE MIST: Picture yourself navigating a winding mountain road after dark when a dense wall of fog suddenly rolls in. Visibility drops to almost nothing. Even the most advanced cameras struggle to distinguish what lies ahead. In situations like these, both human drivers and autonomous vehicles face a serious challenge: seeing through conditions that obscure the road.

A team of international scientists led by Professor Jong-Soo Lee of South Korea's Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (DGIST), working alongside experts from KIST and KIMS, has developed a new type of infrared image sensor that can detect objects hidden by fog, smoke, and dust. The breakthrough could significantly improve the safety of autonomous vehicles while opening new possibilities in several other industries.

Seeing Beyond Visible Light Conventional cameras and human eyes rely on visible light to form images. Unfortunately, visible light is easily scattered by tiny particles suspended in the air, such as water droplets in fog or airborne dust. This scattering dramatically reduces visibility and can make navigation hazardous.

The new sensor operates in the short-wave infrared (SWIR) spectrum. Because SWIR wavelengths are longer than visible light, they can penetrate atmospheric obstacles more effectively, revealing objects that would otherwise remain hidden.

Historically, high-performance SWIR sensors have been expensive to produce. They often rely on specialized materials such as indium gallium arsenide and complex manufacturing techniques, restricting their use to military equipment, aerospace applications, and other highly specialized fields.

A Powerful Combination of Nanomaterials At the heart of the innovation is a hybrid design that combines two advanced nanomaterials.

The first component consists of silver telluride quantum dots—extremely small particles that excel at absorbing infrared light. These particles act like microscopic receivers, capturing signals that conventional sensors might miss.

The second component is a one-atom-thick layer of molybdenum disulfide, a twodimensional material known for its exceptional electrical properties. Once infrared light is detected, this ultra-thin layer rapidly transports the resulting electrical signals for processing.

Together, these materials create a sensor that is both highly sensitive and remarkably fast— two qualities essential for autonomous vehicles that must make decisions in fractions of a second.

Affordable Perhaps the most important aspect of the breakthrough is its potential affordability.

The research team successfully produced a 32 × 32 pixel sensor array and demonstrated compatibility with standard CMOS manufacturing processes, the same technology widely used in modern semiconductor production. This compatibility could dramatically lower manufacturing costs and make large-scale production feasible.

As a result, advanced infrared vision systems may eventually become practical for commercial vehicles rather than remaining confined to specialized industries.

Beyond Autonomous Driving While self-driving cars are an obvious application, the technology's potential extends much further.

Emergency response drones could use the sensors to locate people trapped in smoke-filled buildings during fires.

Farmers could monitor crop health by detecting moisture levels and plant stress invisible to standard cameras. In healthcare, the technology may enable non-invasive imaging techniques capable of visualizing blood vessels beneath the skin without exposing patients to harmful radiation.

This development represents an important achievement in nanotechnology and imaging science.

As researchers continue refining the technology, it could help create a future where fog, darkness, smoke, and dust no longer prevent machines—or people —from seeing clearly when it matters most.

A class apart? It’s still a very good day to have been privately educated. A new Sutton Trust study finds that those who attended feepaying schools are five times more likely to hold the UK’s most powerful and influential jobs. The social gap is widest in the military and judiciary: 63% of senior officers and 62% of top judges were privately educated.

Politics, business and media are not far behind. This raises uncomfortable questions about meritocracy and mobility. Are we still a country where privilege trumps potential? Leadership lesson: true leadership means spotting, stretching and supporting talent wherever it comes from - not just where it was schooled.

Workers embrace job hugging.

Job hopping is out. Job hugging is in. With the economy wobbling, many professionals are clinging to their current roles as if they were a warm duvet on a cold morning. A steady job, it seems, beats the thrill — and risk - of starting over. The upside for employers is obvious: less recruitment hassle, more stability, and space to plan ahead.

The downside? If people are only hugging their jobs out of fear, things can get stale fast. Leaders would be wise to keep the workplace fresh - otherwise those hugs could soon feel more like a headlock.

How to be a gentleman. What does it take to be a modern gentleman?

According to GQ’s etiquette panel, quite a bit more than polished shoes and a decent handshake. A true gent doesn’t vape indoors without permission, or blast music in public.

The sweet spot for happiness.

Conventional wisdom says the more sex you have, the happier you’ll be.

Not so, according to a review of 279 studies reported in The New York Times. The research found that couples who romp once a week report greater relationship satisfaction and happiness than those who do it less often. But here’s the kicker: getting busy more frequently than that doesn’t add extra joy. The experts suggest once a week is “enough to maintain connection” – while more than that risks becoming, well, routine (and exhausting). The lesson? Quality beats quantity – in life, leadership, and even the bedroom.

Adults may need as much as 610 minutes of moderate to vigorous exercise each week for maximum heart health benefits, according to a study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine. Even people with higher fitness levels still required around 560 minutes to achieve similar results, almost four times the current NHS recommendation. Perhaps the leadership lesson is this: the fundamentals still matter. Whether health, fitness or leadership itself, meaningful results rarely come from occasional effort. They come from consistency, discipline and showing up repeatedly long after enthusiasm fades.

ANTONIO MENA, POETA DE PROFUNDA RAÍZ

Conocí al Antonio Mena poeta a través de su muy cuidada ópera prima a la que nombró de forma sublime Te robé un beso bajo la lluvia y eso precisamente fue lo primero que me maravilló de la obra, su sugerente título junto a la cuidada edición que firmó Sakana ediciones, comandado por mi admirado Julio Peces Ruiz.

El continente me pareció impecable desde la portada que representa a una pareja de enamorados besándose frente a la Torre Eiffel, soportando una lluvia que ni siquiera perciben en su arrobamiento, hasta los colores elegidos, pasando por el tipo de letra y el formato entero del poemario. Una vez analizada la obra en su cubierta, traspasé el umbral de la portada y me adentré en su interior.

Primero me encontré una breve, pero necesaria nota del autor y ya me sumergí, tras su lectura, en el cuerpo del poemario, que me pareció arquitectónicamente muy bien estructurado y conteniendo unos poemas directos, sin alharacas técnicas ni un armazón de recursos poéticos hiperbólico, sino una poesía sencilla, sin tener que echar mano de metáforas, símbolos, ni símiles, sino basando su fuerza en palabras cotidianas, pero con un hondo contenido sentimental y de profundo calado social, afectivo y erótico.

Por lo tanto, consideré que mi amigo Antonio Mena había superado con un más que notable alto la prueba de fuego de su bautismo poético.

Le comenté que me ofrecía encantado a escribir sobre uno de sus próximos poemarios y aquí ando ya en la tarea que, recogiendo el guante que le lancé de forma inmediata, me encomendó para que mis palabras fueran la antesala de sus poemas, el zaguán de sus versos intensos y sentidos.

No entra en el sueldo del articulista desvelar claves cruciales de la obra que comenta, sino que su función debiera ser exclusivamente preparar al lector para la lectura del libro que va a leer, haciéndole la boca agua y que olvidando rápidamente el prólogo se sumerja de inmediato en la obra propiamente dicha.

Y ahora ha llegado el momento de cumplir con mi promesa y acometer el comentario de su segundo poemario que ha titulado La estación de los corazones olvidados. Dicen los expertos que el segundo es más difícil que el primero, pues es cuando un poeta logra la consolidación o demuestra que su ópera prima, si es que está fue buena, fue solamente un milagro puntual.

Lo que he podido leer de este libro, me ha entusiasmado aún más que los poemas de su primer poemario, notando una muy marcada evolución en el quehacer poético de su autor. Me han sorprendido sobre todo Los salmos de la niebla, que son una serie de oraciones sobre el origen del mundo, verdaderamente sobrecogedoras en su análisis del estado de las cosas actuales de nuestra sociedad y nuestro mundo.
