On Thursday, November 20th, Casino Marbella became a vibrant hub of creativity as it hosted the grand opening of the exhibition titled "The Colour of Life". This event marked a significant milestone for Jacob Van Doorn, a Dutch artist from Hilversum, whose journey in the art world has been both varied and inspiring.

After spending decades in the realms of graphic design and advertising, and more than twenty years running a bar-gallery in Marbella, Van Doorn now embarks on a new artistic chapter. This phase is characterized by a bold embrace of colour, fresh forms, and a ritualistic approach to art, reflecting a deep and personal transformation.

"The Colour of Life" brings together a stunning collection of figurative portraits, created with vibrant acrylics on canvas. In each piece, colour takes centre stage, with intense reds, electric blues, and luminous greens that convey movement, emotion, and joy. Each portrait is more than just an image; it’s a celebration of life and the transformative power of art.

Inspired by a new personal chapter, Van Doorn channels his emotions into his creative work, producing a body of work that is as much about rebirth as it is about expression. This exhibition is not just a display of art; it’s a testament to the resilience and rejuvenation that art can offer.

MARBELLA SHOPPING CENTRE REOPENS AFTER 30 YEARS

One of Marbella’s most recognisable landmarks has officially reopened its doors after standing closed for three decades The iconic Marbell Center has welcomed its first business back as part of a major transformation project that promises to give the building a new lease of life

After years of inactivity, the centre has finally begun its long-awaited revival, marking an important moment for the heart of Marbella. The reopening comes as part of an ambitious refurbishment programme that aims to convert the once-dormant space into a modern, accessible and vibrant shopping destination.

A New Era for a Familiar Landmark

The building, which once played a central role in the town’s commercial life, has undergone significant redevelopment works designed to bring it up to date with today’s expectations The project will transform the ageing structure into a contemporary retail centre featuring improved layouts, better access and modern facilities all with the aim of restoring its relevance within Marbella’s busy town centre.

Although the renovation work is still ongoing, the arrival of the first operating business marks a symbolic return to life for the shopping centre It signals a new chapter not just for the building itself, but also for the surrounding area, which is expected to benefit from increased footfall and renewed interest.

Full Completion by Early 2026

Renovation works are scheduled to continue throughout 2025, with the full reopening expected in early 2026 Once completed, the centre will offer a more open, inviting environment, adapted to the needs of both residents and visitors

The refurbished space is designed to provide easier access, improved circulation and a more comfortable experience for shoppers. While details of future businesses have yet to be fully revealed, the redevelopment aims to attract a wide range of retail and service outlets that reflect modern consumer needs.

175g (6oz) suet (or vegetarian alternative)

175g (6oz) dark brown sugar

175g (6oz) fresh white breadcrumbs

175g (6oz) plain flour

225g (8oz) mixed dried fruit (currants, sultanas, raisins)

100g (3½oz) chopped candied peel

50g (2oz) chopped almonds or walnuts

1 tsp mixed spice

½ tsp ground cinnamon

½ tsp ground nutmeg

2 large eggs

150ml (5fl oz) stout or dark beer

50ml (2fl oz) brandy, plus extra for flaming

Zest of 1 lemon and 1 orange

Method

Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, combine suet, sugar, breadcrumbs, flour, dried fruit, candied peel, nuts, and spices

Add wet ingredients: Stir in the eggs, stout, brandy, and citrus zest until the mixture is well combined.

Prepare the pudding basin: Grease a 1 2–1 5 litre (2–2½ pint) pudding basin Spoon in the mixture, pressing down lightly Cover with a layer of greaseproof paper and a layer of foil, securing tightly with string.

Steam the pudding: Place the basin in a large pan with boiling water halfway up the sides. Cover and steam for 6 hours, checking water levels occasionally

INDOORGOLF

The Benefits of Indoor Golf–And Exciting News for Local Golfers

Golf on the Costa del Sol is world-renowned, with glorious sunshine, beautiful fairways, and a thriving golfing community. Yet even in a region blessed with such incredible outdoor courses, indoor golf offers a range of unique advantages that every golfer–beginner or experienced–can enjoy.

One of the major benefits of indoor golf is consistency. Weather, daylight hours, and course availability no longer dictate when you can practise Even here on the Costa del Sol, windy days, scorching heat, unexpected rain, or simply busy schedules can disrupt your game. Indoor golf provides a comfortable, climate-controlled environment where you can focus entirely on improvement, any time of day, all year round

Technology is another big advantage. Modern indoor golf simulators provide detailed swing analysis, ball-tracking data, and incredibly realistic course simulations. This gives players the opportunity to refine technique, practise specific shots, and analyse performance in ways that outdoor play alone can’t always offer.

Indoor golf is also perfect for newcomers Without the pressure of being on a full course, new golfers can learn at their own pace, build confidence, and enjoy the sport in a relaxed and welcoming setting.

And now for some exciting news: an indoor golf venue is coming soon! Whether you’re a seasoned golfer looking to sharpen your skills, or someone eager to try something new, you’ll soon have a state-of-the-art indoor golfing experience right on your doorstep.
