OBTENIENDO AYUDA Todos los niños y adolescentes pasan por períodos de angustia emocional. Cuando esa angustia dura más de unas pocas semanas y afecta su funcionamiento (académico, social o higiénico), ése es el momento de buscar ayuda profesional. Si se habla de no querer vivir y si su hijo menciona cómo quiere acabar con su vida, llame al médico de su hijo de inmediato o llévelo a la sala de emergencias de su localidad para que le hagan una evaluación. Está bien preguntarle si su hijo está experimentando tendencias suicidas. Si no está seguro, no le estará metiendo la idea en la cabeza. Se necesitan profesionales para tratar las enfermedades mentales. Para encontrar un consejero local, pregúntele al médico o al pastor de su hijo. Consulte los sitios web de su zona, reúnase primero con el consejero y esté dispuesto a probar otros con los que usted y su hijo se sientan más cómodos. Algunos trastornos de salud mental se tratan mejor con medicamentos o en combinación con el asesoramiento. El médico de su hijo es el mejor juez de eso, pero haga su propia investigación también. ¡No tiene que hacer esto solo!
