Obamacation, Apathy and Evil
M
y Father’s view was a simple one, “Anyone who would take a two-week vacation, you’re better off without.” His thoughts were always based on dollars and cents, common sense and were straight to the point. An individual who would put that stress and strain on a business is not a team player. An individual who can vacate their position for this amount of time is not strategically needed and is a waste of money. I would like to use Mr. Webb’s philosophy and fire President Obama. Can I do that as an overburdened American taxpayer? I know most of you wish I could. With all that is going on in the world, Mr. Obama takes a 17-day vacation to Hawaii. At least he spent our American taxpayers’ dollars within our economy. His 2013 trip to Africa cost our nation over $100 million. He even had an aircraft carrier stationed off the coast of the continent in case of illness or trouble. I always travel with an aircraft carrier. One of the perks of Webb Weekly. If you would like to borrow it for your next trip, just let me know. At a time when most of us are burdened with the expense of the holiday season, the cost of heating our homes and the grocery bill to feed our family, President Obama takes a couple of weeks and his presidential gold card and spends, spends, spends. What will this trip to the Pacific cost American taxpayers? An estimated $4.1 million. No problem, Mr. President, myself and millions of Americans have got your back. Just take a
little more out of the accounts of the working middle class and small business owners. You’re going to anyway. The Obamas have spent $44,351,777.12 on vacations and that number was through July 2014. The number is actually believed to be much higher, but some costs are not subject to the Freedom of Information Act. Unbelievably wrong on so many levels. First and foremost the fact he can or any President could. They are not elected King, Emperor, or Dictator; even though Mr. Obama believes he has these powers and uses them to circumvent our Constitution. I remember when President George W. would take a lavish vacation and the media would take him to task. I agreed with the media for making this public. I believed President Bush and his own wealth should pay for his downtime if he wanted to spend millions on a trip to Africa, not you and I. No one who sits at the desk in the Oval Office should take advantage of the “system” like this. It just tells you how they view their position and the American taxpayer. President Obama will milk every last dollar out of us he can and then receive a $6.6 million post Presidential retirement package. Man, I need to get into politics. Can you imagine? This joker who continues to push any button to destroy America will receive almost $7 million for his efforts. If anyone does not think our government needs a complete overhaul from the top down please move to China.
Remember all this money is not free. It comes from you and I. You hear financial numbers reported and become insensitive to the fact it’s our hard earned money supporting this. Do not blame or point fingers. Both parties Jim have fiscally failed the taxpayers. Webb, Jr. American Notice I say taxpayers. There are millions of Americans that think the system works just fine, because they don’t have to. Work that is. As a new year begins in Washington after folks in Congress have also taken a twoweek break. Believe me; Mr. Webb would fire them too. A Republican led House and Senate take their seats after the November elections. We should take their seats away, so at least they stay awake while they are in session. People, especially Republicans, are expecting change and urgency. There will be none. As I’ve stated before they are all eating at the trough of the American taxpayer. All the good folks go there with change on their mind, it cannot happen. Why you ask? Simple. Lifelong politicians control Washington. Without term limits this will never change. It doesn’t matter what party they claim to represent we should just put a (G) after their name, for Greed. The new guys coming in are told if they don’t play ball the “Washington Way” they won’t receive any support for their
home state or district. No support means no reelection, no reelection means no say at all. No matter how good their intentions were after a while they are standing sideby-side with the porkers at the trough of the American taxpayers. Senator Mitch McConnell is a lifer in Washington. He is now the Senate Majority Leader. If the Republicans were serious about change he would not be. The conservative Americans that voted last fall are serious about change, the Republican Party is not. Incidentally his current approval rating in Kentucky, his home state, is about 35% depending where you look. There’s a real vote of confidence from the Bluegrass State. Senator McConnell will only receive about $186,000 per year after retirement now that he has served as Senate majority leader. He will probably need to become a greeter at Wal-Mart to survive on this paltry amount. He will not lead the charges for change and opposition to President Obama’s destructive agenda. He will continue with gridlock and the lack of a voice that conservative America is waiting for. Over in the House we have Majority Leader John Boehner. Enough said. He is a gutless wonder. When the going gets tough he caves to the liberal left and Mr. Obama. Boehner will be eligible for about $160,000 a year pension for his disservice to the American people. Want me to really make you become ill? House Minority loudmouth Nancy Pelosi for her years of service and positions held will receive about $805,000 in pension per year for her fleecing of America.

Of course, we will still offer easy access to all of the things you love about our online edition including archives of Jimmy’s stories and the ability to print all of the coupons that appear in the paper each week. We are also excited to announce that we are now placing obituaries online also. We will be offering this to our readers as a free service. After speaking with local funeral directors we saw how important being able to publish obituaries really is. The obituaries will be updated daily. This will allow the family and friends of those who have passed to be able to read obituaries quickly and at no charge. Each week Webb Weekly will publish a list of those who have passed in our print edition, you will then be able to find complete obituaries online. We encourage all local funeral homes in our area to submit obituaries to bstanford@ webbweekly.com. It is our hope that webbweekly. com becomes the best and go-to source for our readers, in and out of the area, to find obituaries and information on funeral services. OBAMACATION The gift that just keeps on giving, putting the screws to the American taxpayers. Notice I again didn’t say citizen. Because many have benefited from Ms. Pelosi. Illegal aliens, non-workers, government employees and those who can be rounded up to protest any cause. You know the best way to break up one of those anti law-enforcement, they are all out to get us rallies? Have the police helicopter drop employment applications. White, black it doesn’t matter they will all disburse. What about college students? You mean like Cal-Berkeley, NYU and Harvard? They will run! These current students at fine institutions of higher academia do not want a job. They want to be the educationally enlightened, lifetime students, future professors and helpers of nonworking Americans, like Jonathan Gruber the architect of Obamacare. Thank you to all law-enforcement for your service and protecting of America. Most American citizens appreciate the job you do and understand how much tougher it has become with President Obama, Attorney General Holder, Mayor de Blasio and Al Sharpton creating the opportunity for hatred of police by the very people they protect from each other. Mr. de Blasio should be arrested for inciting riots and conspiracy to commit murder. His voice led to the tragic execution of two New York City police officers. The NYC Police Department is one of the finest in the world. Murder is at an all-time low in the Five Boroughs. Police
Commissioner William Bratton, a Black American, leads a force in which 53% of the beat cops are Black, Latino or Asian American. This poison Obama, Sharpton and de Blasio are pedaling is pure evil. The cops care about NYC and their communities; they are a representation of these neighborhoods. They are not the problem; they are the solution to peace, law and order. Prior to the execution of officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu, Mr. Sharpton led a non-peaceful march in which the protestors chanted “What do we want? Dead cops. When do we want them? Now.” I watched this despicable action. Black America needs to fire Al the Divider and all like him. What Reverend of God and Jesus Christ would create such hatred and violence? Every elected official in Washington should be required to spend a week walking the beat with New York City’s Finest. Appreciate what they go through and are doing for the Big Apple. Oh, and guess what their pension is for putting their life on the line every day for the people of New York? About $55,000 per year, depending obviously on years of service. Unbelievable. Our Country needs to take a hard look at what our Government has become. It is no longer a government of The People, For the People, By the People. It is a corrupt entity living off the American Taxpayer. God Bless America and protect all lawenforcement. Please help the families of the fallen find peace.

The New Williamsport YMCA A New Building But Same Family By Lou Hunsinger Jr.
A
mural that was made by area children proclaims inside the new Williamsport YMCA at 421 Walnut Street, “A New Building, Same Family.” That is the message that Dave Fagerstrom, executive director of the River Valley Regional YMCA wants the public to take from the new YMCA when it has its Grand Reopening ceremonies, open to the public on Thursday, January 8, beginning at 5 p.m. Even though the building is brand new, the staff and its commitment to serve the patrons of the Williamsport “Y” and those served by its various programs remains the same to the employees of the new facility, according to Fagerstrom. This project has been about five or six years in the making,” Fagerstrom told Webb Weekly. “The original building was almost 90 years old and a lot of work had to be done to keep it maintained properly. We really did not have the space to grow or to adapt the building to our present
programs or any new ones that might be developed.” He said the key to being able to build a new ‘Y’ facility for Williamsport came when officials at the River Valley Regional YMCA were able to work out a collaboration with Susquehanna Health System. “That was the pivotal thing that made this new facility possible,” Fagerstom said. “We were able to acquire the land that was needed. We were sort of landlocked in downtown Williamsport and all of the properties that the Hospital acquired made it possible to find a site for us to use for the new Y.” Fagerstrom was quick to praise the role of private donors in raising the money needed to complete the project. He particularly noted the generosity of the Cimini family that donated $1 million. He said this really got the ball rolling. He also expressed his gratitude to the First Community Foundation for their generous grant. “The old Y building had about 200,000 square feet of space, which included the Pickelner Arena, but more than 70,000 square feet of that

The new Y is totally accessible for those with special needs and is fully compliant with the Americans With Disabilities Act requirements,” Fagerstrom said. “This is truly a fully state-of-the-art facility with equipment and programs that reflect that. It is a 21st century facility with an old fashioned, 20th century commitment to excellence. It has been designed for the maximum amount of flexibility to adapt to changing times and changing programs and to serve us well for generations to come. It is something that the people of Williamsport and the surrounding areas can be very proud of.” Troy Weaver is the Branch Executive Director for the Williamsport “Y” and according to Fagerstrom, has done “an excellent job” in overseeing the transition to the new facility and is working fervently to make the new facility a great success.

space was wasted space that included large hallways and passageway in which there was no use,” Fagerstrom said. “The new Y consists of more than 64,000 square feet which might seem quite a bit smaller, but there is little or no wasted space and all of it utilized efficiently.” According to Mindy Minnella, Marketing Coordinator for the Williamsport Y, “We now have a 7,000 square foot state of the art wellness area with brand new equipment from Life Fitness. All of the Cardio Equipment have monitors with television and wifi capabilities. There is also a spacious group exercise room with classes ranging from Boot Camp to Zumba Fitness to Spinning,” Minnella said. She continued, ”We have a brand new basketball gymnasium and racquetball courts. Our new Aquatic Area contains a pool that ranges from three onehalf feet to seven feet deep. It has a zero depth entrance, play features for children and a hot tub, steam room and sauna for adults. The Child Care Wing was built with safety in mind with only one entrance that’s equipped with a keypad entry. We offer our Child Watch Program for children six weeks to six years old that features a soft play system and other fun stuff.

he climactic ending of the movie THE GRADUATE starring Dustin Hoffman (Benjamin Braddock) and Anne Bancroft (Mrs. Robinson) has always put a question mark into my head. After Ben crashes the wedding ceremony of his former girlfriend Elaine, and he snatches her by the arm and they run away with each other, eventually hopping onto a city bus and capturing the very back seat on it, they merely stare into space and not into each other’s faces. The chase is now over, but will true love now prevail? So, I ask myself, would that relationship last? Would they live happily ever after? Could a GRADUATE II, a sequel, be a Hollywood success? After much hypothesis, I must be a naysayer. Thumbs down. The answer is no. Please follow me closely. A. The movie took place in 1967 in Berkeley, California. The height of the Vietnam war, of protests, and sit-ins and civil unrest was going on here (but never shown). It was also the beginning

During the entire movie, he was always soul searching Gerry and looking for some direction Ayers after his graduation from college. I doubt this decision to pursue (steal?) Elaine was going to help his cause. In fact, probably muddy the waters a bit more. B. Mrs. Robinson, Elaine’s mother, would always be in the picture at some place at some time. As you remember, the notorious Mrs. Robinson (Mr. Braddock’s partner’s wife) was an alcoholic who seduced and had a tryst with the naive Benjamin. Just the type of mother in law you avoid like the plague! In fact, she was dysfunctional from the word “go.” Imagine this beast calling you on a daily basis! No way, good riddance! C. In the movie, Benjamin was portrayed as 21 and Elaine age 19. Too young and immature for a strong marriage to take root and blossom. For

If Benjamin was to take the advice from one of his father’s friends, he would have gone onto more education in the world of engineering and composites. Say goodbye to Elaine and hello to new pipe fittings and Slurpee cups. Put marriage on hold and become a huge success as his parents hoped for since the opening scene at his graduation party. E. Carl would have tracked both of them down with dire, tragic consequences. Remember Carl? The handsome blonde fraternity boy who Elaine’s parents “arranged” for her to marry. When the wedding ceremony got hijacked by Ben, he went into hyper mode along with Mr. and Mrs. Robinson. We can only hope he didn’t own a gun. F. Lest we forget, daughters tend to grow up and be a reflection of their mother. Anything even remotely resembling Mrs. Robinson might be worth staying away from. In a word, toxic. Mr. Robinson came across as no jewel either. When you marry a partner, you also marry their family. I think that’s why Benjamin stares into the wild blue yonder at the very end of the movie. He just realizes the animals are out of the zoo. G. If marriage is a sacred institution,
and if your parents are to uphold and set an example of how “fundamental and sound” it is, don’t you think both Ben and Elaine had it up to their ears with the phoniness and betrayal? Had seen and felt firsthand how a marriage could go so wrong. Footnote: Mrs. Robinson never intended to wed Mr. Robinson. Putting it nicely, their child Elaine was not planned. Enough said. I’ve always enjoyed watching this milestone movie. It spoke for a new generation (don’t trust anyone above 30), featured an incredible soundtrack and captured us with comic/tragic twists throughout the one hour and 46 minutes. It was cast perfectly, the direction superb. Loved the witty Benjamin -- made you root for the underdog! Audiences had hoped for a sequel and it never came about. Perhaps for the reasons I listed above. For those wondering, “Scarborough Fair” (also a song by Simon and Garfunkel featured in the movie) is an English ballad about the Yorkshire town of Scarborough. The song tells the tale of a young man (Ben?) who instructs the listener to tell his former love (Elaine?) to perform for him a series of impossible tasks. In this case, I’m afraid a joyous, rewarding marriage was one of them.

A
t a leadership seminar at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, the speaker took the podium and immediately asked the question, “How many leaders are there in this room?” The participants at the seminar consisted of approximately sixty individuals who had been selected from all over the world; directors and top managers holding positions in government, business, medicine, research, etc. Yet despite the fact that they were all eminent in their fields, very few hands were being raised, and those who did were raising them slowly. On the other hand, I shot my arm in the air immediately. The speaker looked at me and smiled, because he realized I was probably the only one in the room who understood

the purpose behind the question. All of us were leaders — whether we wanted to be or not. Virtually everyone has the wrong concept when it comes to leadership. I hear if often when asking to interview someone for this column, “Leaders in Our Neighborhood.” The standard response is, “Well, I don’t think of myself as a leader.” My standard rebuttal is, “Do you have children? Who do you think they look to for direction or for an example in living? Do your friends ever ask your advice? Do you have influence over anyone at work, at church, at the group you belong?” The question is not if we are a leader, the real question is whether we are leading well. In simplest terms, we are either leading others or misleading them. Think of your children. No better illustration has been given to us than the

verybody’s good at something. You may have an aptitude for numbers. You might be a master at chess, multitasking, organizing, or people skills. Your real talents could be hidden, or maybe the whole world knows how good you are. Author Judy Melinek, M.D. loved doing surgery, but it had its drawbacks. And besides, as you’ll see in “Working Stiff” (with T.J. Mitchell), her real interest lay just this side of six feet under… From the time she was very small, Judy Melinek’s father shared with her a fascination with the human body. He was a doctor; Melinek dreamed of becoming a doctor, too, and making him proud but she “never got the chance.” He committed suicide when she was just thirteen. Still, she forged ahead and, upon graduation from UCLA medical school, she decided to become a surgeon. That specialty turned out to be a bad fit for Melinek, so she resigned from her residency position and turned instead
to a medical branch that also intrigued her: forensic pathology. Forensic pathologists, she says, investigate “sudden, unexpected, or violent deaths by visiting the scene, reviewing medical records, and performing an autopsy” while gathering evidence for possible legal reasons. You learn a lot about the human body when you’re a forensic pathologist and if “you knew how much hardware some of your fellow citizens are toting around in their knickers, you might see the world as a stranger… place.” Forensic pathology only barely resembles what you see on TV. “Everyone thinks ‘murder’ when you say you work as a medical examiner,” she says, “but homicides are rare.” Still, in her career, she discovered evidence of them. She also investigated overdoses and mis-doses, though “alcohol is the deadliest drug.” She helped police solve a crime in which a driver swore he didn’t hit-and-run. She gave comfort to the loved ones of the deceased she autopsied, and she learned why you want to brew coffee when investigating a long-dead body.
that needed investigation. The other appeal here is what you will see: interesting stories of crime, death, the human body, and the ways they might intersect. Melinek (with T.J. Mitchell) is perfectly willing to share stories of that intersection, which is exactly why I loved this book. Be aware that this is probably not something you’ll want to read at lunch. It can be gruesome and detailed but oh-so-fascinating, so if you’re strongstomached and up for a slice-of-life book on slicing at death, then “Working Stiff” is a good one.

ith the arrival of colder weather and the occasional snowfall, the deer hunting season begins to wrap up. A few hearty archers and flintlock hunters will have until January 10th to put their tag on a deer, but after that, you’ll have to wait until next fall to pursue one of the states favorite big game animals. All is not lost, however, since furtaking is now getting into full swing and several options are available. First, let’s point out the old adage that “If you can’t take a turkey, save a turkey!”

When it comes to calling foxes, the calls used are pretty similar to those used for coyotes. The most popular call is the dying rabbit call, where there is usually a good chance either a fox or coyote will respond. There are also specific sounds for foxes, such as sounds of fox pups and foxes barking. Sounds used for coyotes include sounds that pups make while playing and the various yipping and howling sounds of adults. It is amazing all of the sounds that have been captured and are available by using one of the newer digital calls, such as those produced by FoxPro, based in Lewistown, PA. FoxPro also has available a number of electronic decoys that greatly increase the success of taking a predator that is lured in to a call. As with foxes and coyotes, bobcats frequently respond well to a dying rabbit sound. Here again, there are some specific calls for the bobcat that are more appealing to bobcats, if that is what you are targeting. Of all of the methods used in taking these various furbearers, perhaps calling is the most popular as well as most productive. It was in 1940, in Tioga County, that the first recorded “eastern coyote” was taken by a hunter. Today, coyotes have widened their range to include every county in Pennsylvania, and last year it was estimated that more than 40,000 coyotes were taken by trappers and hunters – yet their population is stable, even showing a slow increase throughout the state. This population trend is true of most of our furbearers and predators. Next time, let’s take a look at what makes a successful calling setup for today’s predator hunting…

few exceptions during big game seasons. Foxes and raccoons hunting season began in October and ends on February 21, 2015 and the season for hunting bobcats goes from January 20 to February 10, 2015. There is no limit to the number of foxes, raccoons or coyotes that can be taken, however you may only take one bobcat and you must be a licensed furtaker and obtain a bobcat permit. For now, let’s focus on hunting for the various furbearers, where you can either use dogs to pursue them, spot and stalk them or call them in to a variety of predator calls. Using coon hounds can be very successful in pursuing raccoons and a night of running hounds can be pretty exciting! Hounds are used less frequently for coyotes, and not very often for bobcats. Spot and stalk hunting for predators is always productive – perhaps not so much in getting the game you are pursuing, but it always provides plenty of exercise and time to scout for signs of turkey and deer activity as you hike logging roads and ridgetops. It becomes a more productive method once you have located den areas, feeding locations or travel routes of the game you are hunting. Raccoons are most often taken by the use of hounds, but can also be taken by calling. Set ups should be along creeks or other travel corridors and night time calling works best. Hand held mouth callers can be used, but the variety and range of sounds produced by today’s digital remotelycontrolled callers makes them the choice of most hunters. Various sounds are available, such as raccoon in distress, raccoons fighting and a number of sounds of young raccoons.

From 1982 to 2004 the Pennsylvania River Otter Reintroduction Project released 153 otters successfully into eight different water systems in central and western Pennsylvania. Other states also began their own reintroduction efforts with some of those otters entering Pennsylvania from Ohio, New York and Maryland. While some of the reintroduced otters were pulled from the Pocono Mountain region, others were acquired from several other states. The population

played. Confessing he never played the position, he was willing to give it a try. He asked if we could give him some extra practice. The next Saturday morning he and I reported to the baseball field an hour before the regular team practice began. During that time he shagged, learned and sweated his way under hundreds of fly balls hit his way. As the private workout ended, he shook my hand and said, “Thanks coach for taking the extra time to work with me. I really appreciated it.” Expressions of that type are rarely heard from freshman athletes. Schonewolf excels in the classroom. His College Board scores hover near perfection. He has attracted college interest from academically advanced institutions, including West Point. He is a young man bound for a successful future. Not being named to the All-State team does not detract from who he is or what his teammates, coaches and community think of him. Schoenwolf is a class act. Through South Williamsport’s 13-2 season he and his teammates perused a dream that fell one game short of fulfillment. The December 23 announcement denied him what would have been a most-fitting ending to his high school career. He learned a life lesson that goes far beyond the football field. Sometimes, life just isn’t fair. Keefer said it best, “I think we had a few kids that got snubbed.” Snubbing can’t rub out class and character. Schonewolf possesses both.

snubbed. That is just the way it goes.” Bingo! And under the S is the biggest snub of those area players not selected. Congratulations to each and every one of the selectees but there is no way that any Class A player (Bragalone and Pietropola excepted) were more deserving than Tyler Schonewolf, South Williamsport’s tight end, defensive end and unquestioned leader of the Mountaineers record achieving team. There is no one player more responsible for the metamorphosis of the Mountaineer football program in the past four years than Schonewolf. His physical toughness, mental tenacity, football skills, drive and leadership were known and respected by all. Perhaps the most telling example as to what Schonewolf meant to his team came recently from one of those selected to the All-State team. When the team was announced I approached Johnny Peters in the gym to offer my congratulations on his selection. Before I said a word a grim-faced Peters looked me in the eye, shook his head and proclaimed, “Coach, it is just not right, Tyler deserves to be on that team.” During our several minute conversation, all Peters wanted to talk about was how good Tyler was; only acknowledging my congratulations for his achievement at the very end of our talk. Three years earlier, as a freshman, Schonewolf was a candidate for South Williamsport’s JV baseball team. To satisfy a need, we wanted to switch him to an outfielder, a position he had never

he past couple of years, local high school baseball Coaches, led by the efforts of Jake King, have held a Coaches and Seniors vs. Cancer Game at Bowman Field. All proceeds from the game go to the American Cancer Society. The ballplayers of our area and Coaches have raised almost $30,000 in just two games. The thought of a sundrenched late May day, the smell of fresh cut grass and the crack of the wooden bat at Bowman Field warms my heart. The thought of all the good that is accomplished by baseball and honoring those we have lost and hopefully helping those currently fighting cancer or someday hopefully preventing, or at least provide an earlier detection, warms my soul. The Coaches want to create more awareness about the annual
game and also want to be more active with their community and provide a little winter baseball and instruction. So I’m happy to inform you there will be baseball in January. The best of our area’s high school Coaches are providing Coaches/ Senior vs. Cancer Baseball Clinic. Manager of Hughesville, Casey Waller, will host the event at the Spartan indoor turf facility. Local college players will give their former Coaches a hand and provide some insight about baseball at the next level. Boy this all sounds great to me, I wonder if I get rid of the gray if I can sneak in for the day? Heck, most of these high school players of today have great beards and what I call goatees. I still can’t grow one. Maybe me being cleanshaven will help my case. The event will be January 10th, again it will be at the Hughesville
