Step into character and see if you can solve “A Villain’s Vendetta.” Dinner. Drinks. Deception. Murder. For one unforgettable night, Back Alley is bringing together a room full of villains — and you aren’t coming to watch the story unfold. You’re becoming part of it. This event has limited seating; only 30 players will enter the game. They do want it noted before you buy a ticket. They want players, not spectators. This event is designed for guests who want to fully embrace the experience. You don’t need acting experience. You don’t need to memorize a script. And you e i ely o ee o be a ex rover . But you DO need to be willing to play. They encourage every guest to dress for their assigned character, interact with the other players, complete their objectives, and stay in character as much as possible throughout the evening. was lost and is found.” Jesus ends the story right there and leaves us to wonder if the older brother ever changed his attitude and went inside. The bottom line is this: both sons misunderstood the nature of sonship. They each believed they were legally entitled to what belonged to the father. One took it and wasted it. The other, with his brother out of the way, believed he was entitled to the entire estate. For the prodigal, entitlement led to failure and guilt. He forfeited sonship for the slavery of guilt and regret (I did this awful thing to myself). For the older brother, entitlement led to slaving for what was already his and ufferi g offe e a i fa er grace for his brother. He forfeited sonship for the slavery of jealousy and victimhood (someone else did this awful thing to me). Both sons were lost — and when they separated themselves from the father, they were miserable. My friend, sonship is not about what rightfully belongs to you, rather, it is a declaration of Who you rightfully belong to. A son belongs to the Father, but a son must be willing to accept that
ru . e re o li e ee a coi . God chose us for an eternal relationship, and he waits to see if we will choose him. His grace will remind us of home, and he will even plead with us to come inside and share in his happiness, but he will not force us. His grace is inviting you home right now. Are you willing to let go of the regret and victimhood so you can experience sonship with your heavenly Father? re you ire of e lo a l of guilt and regret? Are you weary of slavery and bitterness? Your Father is ready to receive you back into the family. You belong to him and everything he has belongs to you. This is the nature of sonship, and the only thing standing in the way is you. He is drawing you home right now. He is pleading for you to come inside and join the celebration. What will you do? Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. John 8:34-36. Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. Isaiah 43:1

he Lycoming County Commissioners gathered to address infrastructure resilience following severe flooding, resolve a long-standing dispute over courthouse space, and recognize the persistent challenge of food insecurity affecting thousands of county residents. The meeting reflected how county governance must simultaneously manage operational conflicts, respond to environmental threats, and acknowledge community vulnerabilities. The commissioners approved moving the Register and Recorder office to 33 West Third Street, concluding a multi-year dispute with Register and Recorder David A. Huffman. The disagreement stemmed from conflicting visions for courthouse space. Huffman wanted to remain in the courthouse due to safety and security needs inherent to his office operations. The commissioners wanted the courthouse space to expand the sheriff ’s department. The judge dropped the motion to pause the move on the same morning as the meeting, yet the actual physical relocation remains uncertain. A separate request for a preliminary injunction is waiting for a court decision, meaning the legal situation continues to unfold even as the commissioners voted to proceed. The decision represents a conclusion to
years of tension, though uncertainty persists about whether the move will actually happen. The commissioners made their preference clear, but the courts will ultimately determine whether the relocation proceeds or whether Huffman’s preliminary injunction prevents it. This is governance operating within the constraints of a legal system that moves at its own pace, independent of county administrative decisions. The more immediate focus centered on infrastructure exposed as vulnerable by severe flash flooding on September 2 and 3. Heavy rains revealed weak spots in the county’s ability to monitor and respond to rising water levels. The commissioners approved upgrades to automated stream gauges positioned near major creeks and sections of the Susquehanna River. These gauges provide real time data that emer-

COUNTY HALL gency management teams depend on to issue flood warnings and coordinate evacuations. Upgrading them means the county can respond faster and more accurately when heavy rainfall threatens communities in the river valleys that define Pennsylvania’s largest county by land area. Funding for the new gauges comes from federal pandemic relief money through the American Rescue Plan Act, transforming resources allocated for pandemic response into infrastructure that protects residents from natural disasters. The commissioners did not present exact grand totals for the entire gauge setup during this vote. Yet, the investment acknowledges a hard lesson taught by September’s flooding: monitoring systems matter when weather turns dangerous. The commissioners also addressed standard procurement and operating expense agreements, including contracts with legal counsel and renewal of a Zoom software license. These routine approvals constitute the administrative backbone that allows county operations to continue functioning. They receive less attention than major disputes or emergency responses, yet they are equally essential to how government serves residents. The meeting concluded with the commissioners proclaiming September 2026 as Hunger Action Month in the county. This proclamation acknowledged a crisis that persists regardless of weather or infrastructure: thousands of residents, including
thousands of children, experience food insecurity. A regional food bank reported handling increased demand partly due to tighter rules on state assistance programs that went into effect last year. Stricter eligibility requirements mean more families fall outside the safety net that previously caught them. Local organizations responded by running backpack food programs for students and organizing community food drives to keep local pantries stocked. These efforts represent what community response looks like when government systems prove insufficient. Volunteers and nonprofits fill gaps that formal assistance programs cannot reach. The commissioners’ proclamation of Hunger Action Month acknowledged that work and invited the broader community to participate in addressing food insecurity. What emerged from this meeting was a portrait of a county managing simultaneous challenges: legal disputes over space allocation, infrastructure vulnerabilities exposed by flooding, and persistent poverty that leaves thousands without reliable access to food. The commissioners moved forward on all fronts, from resolving courthouse conflicts to upgrading warning systems to recognizing community organizations working to address hunger. Each decision reflected an understanding that county governance means attending to multiple urgent needs, some dramatic and some quietly persistent, all worthy of attention and resources.

mericanization school or “night school,” as it is more generally known, will begin Tuesday evening in the Washington School building, under the instruction of W.W. Stiber, who has been principal of the night school for about 20 years, and his assistant, W.T. McClaren, who has been principal. The school will continue for about six months at the Washington School every Tuesday and Thursday evening from seven o’clock to nine o’clock. The course is given entirely free of any expense to the students. The government supplies the books. This is the 25th year for the night school in the city. Many of the persons who enroll are foreigners who preparing themselves for citizenship in this country, while others are interested in
the fundamentals which are taught and which may help them in their trades. The first thing the school does is to aid the foreign members of the class to obtain their “certificate of landing.” At the end of the course in the spring, diplomas which certify that the student has been drilled in questions of government which appear in the naturalization are given, and the course accept them if the applicant can produce witnesses that he is rightfully entitled to the diploma. Anyone over the age of 16 may attend the night school. Usually there are between 50 to 60 students each year. Besides studies about government the school offers courses on different forms of English, the most popular being writing English in business style. The instructors stress writing and English, and cater to the young men who need fundamentals in the developing of trades.

It lasted the entire ride, very interesting, but I was so happy to have my brother right by my side for it all. I yelled to him as we were riding next to eac o er ell if you ai r you re last!” as we laughed. And boy, were we last. Still was a special ride and one I will never ever forget, that’s for sure. I’m pretty sure, after looking into it after all this happened, that I have a failing Crankshaft Position Sensor. I won’t get into all of that, but I am sure you were wondering how Andrea and Kenzy ended up clear at the end of the ride and why I wasn’t focused as much on the people around me interacting with you all. So many of my friends texted me, “We were looking for the pink helmet and thought we missed you, but then found you at the end! What happened!?” I thought my readers should know what happened. I’m so sorry if I missed any of you. This ride will be a ride I will never forget, as I was

St. John School of the Arts Celebrating 30 Years By Lou Hunsinger Jr.
T
he year was 1996. Bill Clinton defeated Senator Bob Dole to win re-election as President; Tom Ridge was governor of Pennsylvania. In January of that year, this area suffered a disastrous flood that claimed several lives, which was caused by melting snow, and the St. John’s School of the Arts came into existence. This year, the St. John’s School of the Arts (SOTA) celebrates its 30th anniversary as a laboratory for developing budding singers, dancers, and instrumentalists. “Saint John’s School of the Arts is a place where real, deep relationships flourish. In a world that can be so callous and unforgiving, SOTA takes the long view of what being transformed by love really means. It’s not accidental - it’s intentional - and it’s for everyone, every day,” Todd Kendall, director of SOTA, told Webb Weekly. He continued, “One of the things that makes SOTA a special place is that everything we do in lessons and classes is authentic from the heart and involves community and collaboration. No AI is involved in making the art we perform. Just good old-fashioned creativity, practice, persistence, and refinement. It’s invigorating!” It all began for SOTA in September 1996, when a small group of dedicated musicians and artists gathered at Saint John’s United

They were there at the request of the Reverend Dr. Jeffery Seeley, whose vision of a fine and performing arts school would grow into the school of the arts we know today. In January of 2024, SOTA moved to the North Campus of First Church Williamsport and began a mission partnership in the Vallamont Neighborhood on the corner of Belmont and Market Streets. For three decades, SOTA has impacted thousands of lives through its mission of providing excellent instruction in the fine and performing arts, guided by the love of Christ. They are so very appreciative of their connections with mission partners, donors, families, faculty, and friends that continue to sustain their daily operations. But most importantly, they see the impact in their students as they grow through their art – knowing they are part of a community that loves them. Kendall said, “Our values are on display as students leave their lessons and classes and interact with their home communities in and around Lycoming County: Christ-Centered Purpose - “We believe the love of Christ is the foundation of all we do. Every lesson, performance, and interaction honors God by reflecting His grace and truth. Artistic Excellence and Creative Expression - “We are committed to providing the high-

T
he statewide archery antlered and antlerless deer season will begin this year on Saturday, October 3, and as the season progresses and nears that “magical” time of the rut, bowhunters will be spending an increasing amount of time in the woods. While hunting from the ground or in a ground blind can be successful, most archery hunters would agree that a tree stand places the hunter in a much more advantageous position. Many of the tree stands have already been put into place, but some might be relocated based on deer movement, or additional ones might be installed. With the all-too-often reports of tree stand accidents and incidents, it might be a good time to think about incorporating some safe practices when installing or using any of these potentially hazardous devices. Ladder stands and climber stands have evolved greatly since their initial models, and today there are dozens of models and options available. The key here is not to skimp and try to buy the cheapest ones available. This is truly where an investment of a fe ore ollar ill ay off i e long run. A higher-priced stand will generally be of greater quality, with heavier material used in its construction. Most hunters will agree that the location of a stand is critical. You can’t just erect a
stand “somewhere” in the woods and expect a great deal of deer movement around you — even during the most active times of the rut. Thus, pinpointing a spot where two or more active trails from bedding to feeding areas intersect should be a great location, or at the edge of a food plot where there is a well used trail leading into it will serve also as a good spot to position a stand. From a safety standpoint, a primary consideration needs to be the selection of the exact tree you plan to use. It needs to be large enough in diameter, and it needs to be as straight as possible. A tree with a larger diameter will help break up the outline of a hunter and, more importantly, will provide a much steadier platform for a tree stand. The straighter the tree, the more easily and safely it can be climbed with a climber stand or attached to with a ladder stand. Erecting a ladder stand or prepping an area you have selected for a climber stand is NOT a one-man job. Particularly when placing a ladder stand, it is even smarter to have three people available for performing the task. For safety’s sake, this is simply something that should not be attempted by one person. It is not a matter of how strong you think you are — it is a matter of how smart you should be! Think safety and use common sense! Ladder stands can vary in height, generally ranging from 15 to 20 feet from the
Climber stands are a horse of another color. Although they will be used by just one person, a second individual nearby is a smart idea during initial preparation. There may be limbs to clear on the actual tree you will use for the stand, as well as side branches from other trees that may need to be trimmed for shooting lanes. During this trimming process, there may be some stretching out beyond a comfortable level that needs to be done, and having a second individual standing by is a smart idea. Climber stands are simply not for everyone. It is important to realize and respect your individual limitations and your comfort level. If you are not at ease prepping for or using a climber stand, the ladder stand is what you need to use for your hunting. Again, think safety and use common sense.

ground to the platform, with the seat being a comfortable height above the platform. The taller stand may require a larger tree to provide a strong enough base for attaching the stand. With a quality, heavy-duty stand, the weight can easily run around 100 pounds, and therefore when you begin to pivot the stand upward toward the tree, there is a great deal of torque involved — thus the need for multiple people to erect it safely. Once the stand is up and safely secured to the tree, having more than one person involved will allow the clearing out of shooting lanes to be a much smoother operation as well. The hunter can remain in the stand and point out the limbs that need to be removed, rather than make numerous trips up and down the stand to clear the paths if he were by himself.

Millionaires Dedicate Renovated Stadium Friday
A
visitor to town driving up the winding hill leading to the Williamsport Area High School could surmise the school’s Millionaire nickname is derived from the palatial view presented by the newly refurbished stadium complex below. While using slang terms, it does ‘look like a million bucks,’ but the estimated $20-million price tag project will receive its formal dedication Friday evening when the football Millionaires host visiting Selinsgrove. The project is the final phase of a long-
term plan to modernize the 50-year-old stadium and surrounding athletic facilities. While portions of the facility had been updated over the years, the core stadium buildings and support spaces had reached an age where comprehensive renovations and modernization were necessary. Lobar served as the project’s general contractor, with construction beginning last November at the conclusion of the football season. Funding was provided through the Williamsport Area School District’s Capital

Improvement Funds. The stadium’s ceremonial dedication will be part of the school’s 2026 Homecoming activities. The ceremony will provide an opportunity for the school district, student-athletes, coaches, alumni, community members, and other Scott supporters to celebrate Lowery the competition of the project and recognize the many people who contributed to bringing the vision for the facility to reality. “We are extremely excited about the improvements the project provides for our student-athletes, coaches, officials, school,
and community,” explained WAHS athletic director Sean McCann. “The biggest difference is that the stadium now provides the support facilities necessary to create a true home-field experience. “Previously, the football teams had to dress at the high school and walk to the stadium because there were no locker rooms at the field. The new field house has dedicated locker rooms, showers, and changing areas for both teams, with similar locker rooms for game officials.” The new field house also includes a second floor that can be used for professional development sessions, school meetings, and can accommodate banquets and gatherings for approximately 150 people. A new two-story press box was constructed. The upper level contains four separate

The resurfaced tennis courts look outstanding, and we are hosting our first-ever night tennis match when the girls take on Jersey Shore under the new lights. Adding six pickleball courts also creates opportunities for our physical education programs and the community that did not previously exist. “Ultimately, my favorite part is not one particular room or feature. It is what the entire project represents. We have created a facility that gives our student-athletes a place they can be proud of, provides our coaches and officials with the resources they need, gives our fans a better experience, and creates new opportunities for our school and community. “It is an investment that will benefit Williamsport students and the entire community for many years to come.” Construction Liquidation, Hit & Miss, Antiques & Equipment

rooms, including two enclosed spaces for coaches and two dedicated rooms for media and broadcasting operations, providing coaches and media members with dedicated, functional spaces while significantly improving the technology and overall gameday experience. The fan experience will benefit from new upper-level public restrooms, modernized entrance areas, new concession stands and expanded seating areas that increase the stadium capacity to 7,000. Getting a jump on Friday’s formal dedication ceremonies, the Cherry & White have already played two games in their new facility, which they have embraced with enthusiasm. “One of the most rewarding parts of the project has been watching the students experience the new facilities for the first time,” McCann related. “It was especially exciting to see the players come into the new locker room before our first home game. They were genuinely excited about the space and about having a new home at the stadium. “We also had the opportunity to tour the new locker rooms and field house with former Williamsport players from the 1986 and 2016 teams. Their reaction really put the improvements into perspective. “For us, that reaction from both current and former players reinforced what the project is really about – providing our student-athletes with a facility they can be proud of and creating a lasting home for Williamsport athletics. “What excites me most is the opportunity this facility gives us to do more for our students, our athletic programs, and our com-

We wear belts. My man David Coates and his staff take great care of us. This is my 21st year coaching the squad. Yes. I have been mentoring the Lycoming College Golf Team for quite some time. This is my second stint after a brief pause. I was with the Warriors from 2001 to 2016. I stepped away to find meaning. I am still searching. But retiring from hoops left me with a major void. Broadcasting helps. I needed more. Interacting with youngsters is still important. The opportunity came knocking again. I am glad to be back.

Coaching Division III golf is the best gig in the world. There are so many perks with very few distractions. No drama with these boys. We have expectations, but it is different. Our players have no NIL deals. Yet. They come in all shapes and sizes. Jamie My guys always gradSpencer uate. Our parents and grands are outstanding. They come to many events. We have a large following. They don’t blame me when a ball flies into the trees. No experts behind the scenes. You should play zone, Coach. That never happens in this sport. I love all of my guys on the roster. Everyone is so different. Our van rides and overnights are hysterical. 2026 is off to a great start. We continue to turn heads. Would I like my boys to make more putts? Sure. But they are all fantastic kids. I enjoy the camaraderie. Our interactions are stupendous. We are constantly laughing. Each trip is better than the last. I am serious. I still enjoy the game, but play very little. No worries. Golf takes time. I would rather fish. I am a has-been. But now that I am around the boys, I am starting to get that itch. I played 9 the other day. Say what? I even carried my bag. The guys made fun of me. My legs still hurt. Our fall season kicked off a few weeks back. The boys and I were in Carlisle,
PA, for the Dickinson Fall Invitational. 26 teams. Some of the finest D3 squads in the Mid-Atlantic Region. The Warriors made history and posted some outstanding scores. Senior Connor Shanahan led the way. The scrappy left-hander carded a 74 and a 73. Unheard of. Connor set the two-day Lycoming mark. Sophomore Tre Lesperance also played solid. Our little guy fired 74 and 75 over the weekend. Senior Will Eberz posted two 77s. Sophomore Colby Seiler went 79-77. Lycoming tallied 304 on Saturday. We set a new school record on Sunday with a blistering 302. Incredible. But. Division III is loaded. The Warriors finished T16. Our best finish in a large tournament. Gettysburg won the team title with -8 for the weekend. My man Connor was 3 over. He finished tied for 32nd. Dude? This is crazy.
