TI1e American owners of the fine collection of Oriental porcelain being offered in this catalogue came to New Zealand fifteen years ago to go into business in the Bay of Plenty, bringing with them inherited pieces and others acquired by themselves on regular visits to the East. They continued adding to their collection when opportunities arose and in 1984 they purchased from the Kwok Gallery in Singapore, the superb Imperial Yellow Dish illustrated on the covers of this catalogue. Other excellent items were acquired from this famous Orchard Road Gallery which was established in 1918 and remains today under ownership of the founders' grandsons. Many of the better Japanese pieces were purchased from another world famous gallery, the Kita Porcelain Gallery in Kyoto, Japan; Gump's Oriental Department in San Francisco was the source of other items. Some of the lots in the collection have the certificates issued by these galleries at the time of purchase.

The owners are nGw changing the direction of their acquisitions and the placement of the collection onto the New Zealand market provides local collectors with a rare opportunity to purchase Oriental porcelain of top quality and condition and with impeccable provenance.
The collection housed in a Dutch pine cabinet as displayed in the owner's home. (The cabinet is not included in the sale).
