Contacts for Contract

LA TECNOLOGIA DEL SILENZIO THE TECHNOLOGY OF QUIETNESS If we could just highlight a trend growing exponentially in the contract sector, it would be the office supply. Not only in production volumes and export revenues, but also in terms of creativity. The design applied to the workplace is producing amazing and innovative results. A kind of creativity similar to that spent to furnish the apartments, as a result of a new social status: our permanence in the workplace. The offices are no longer aseptic places of transit, but functional spaces and attractive, cozy and technology. Places to work in an advanced, relax, walk, even isolate themselves. The search for beauty in this area also has a psychological and emotional value, and is driven by endogenous circumstances of this complicated historical period. In short, it is easier to withstand the effects of the current constraints if we spend much of our time, the one dedicated to the production, in a pleasant place. So, in exhibitions of these months, we have seen executive desks that convert into tennis table courts. Tables that seem to come from the workshop of a carpenter in 1800, but which actually conceal all kinds of technology. Chairs that adapt to the body, without levers that regulate height and backrest. Stations mounted on hydraulic springs, to stretch, work standing and create immediate focus groups without the need for changing room. Jobs are low, but also because they have changed shape, becomeing agile, mobile and unstructured. Hierarchies have been lost, at least in public. So here comes modular systems furniture, storage units to stack and pull getting bookcases, shelves, room dividers and welcome desk. We are experiencing a new phase where design, electronics and furniture come together to create happy space, where welfare and environmental quality count. From this equation, it lacks the most precious element, the silence: that's why, the branch of subcontracting most interesting is that of acoustic panels that can be applied almost anywhere. Mobile stations and soundproofed that can be placed in open spaces, airports, railway stations, hotel lobbies. Colorful shells, to reaffirm our right to privacy and confidentiality, also in hectic and connected times as those who are living, where we detach ever and never stop. In this issue, we introduce you a focus on five companies that have approached the distance between home and office, in addition to the usual parade of information on the contract industry. That seems to progress, one step at a time. The next market? Will be the Arabic one, which already worths a billion Euros. Thank you for your attention and good reading of Divisione Contract/6.

04 MARCO BASILEO

A REVOLUTION, THAT'S WHY The revolution was already in the name. SaloneUfficio of 2015 was called "Workplace3.0" because in our workplaces technology has become much more of an important element. Rather, it seems a constituent factor of the creative processes, production and human relations. And it is especially around this that the vessels have re-modeled. The work is by time, on project, often precarious but at the same time "smart", and can at times be non-stationary, perhaps distant, but always connected. So the furniture too becomes flexible, mobile: the era of the desks large and massive, symbols of a permanent and secure is ending, giving way instead to seats and tops light (and therefore easy to move), minimal, that fold and tilt according to the requirements. The workplace environment becomes a place to live, blurring the lines between work and home. Best national companies have intercepted this trend, and are able to face the difficulties by offering office supplies cutting edge, but with a unique design. In this focus we tell you about an all Italian excellence, which has made its name worldwide for his amazing ideas: Caimi Brevetti. And in the wake of innovation, we present the best solutions from AranWorld, Fantoni, Las Mobili, Rossini and Ares (Contract Design Network).

Presented at the last edition of the Salone Ufficio in Milan, the Hub project (by Fantoni Group), is a system designed to meet the modern business needs. Today our way of working has changed completely. We are faster, more efficient, more flexible. We have learnt to live with a nomadic approach, shedding our expectations of a daily routine that is becoming ever more fluid. It is therefore no surprise that the demands regarding our working spaces should change too, becoming more flexible, hybrid, ready to change and adapt to different functions, numbers of people, or roles. Hub is an office system created for this contemporary world. It is a landscape that is ready to change, simple to understand and use, and easy to make your own, because it is designed to be customized day by day, recognizing our need to personalize the spaces that we occupy for many hours a day. The boundaries between design work and management work are growing ever slimmer, as are all our hierarchies and roles. Hub promotes informal communication, the possibility to change places and rearrange spaces, and to meet and discuss with people in different ways to suit the occasion. In a sense, it is as if the workplace has become a boundless space, the borders of which are drawn by people, their skills and actions. Hub is the office for this new world, this time in which people are once again taking a central position. Hub gives us free rein to personalise our workspace. The ultimate modular system, whose perfect geometric structure was developed so that its frame can be used to form independent workstations or multiple arrangements. Hub is sculptural and contemporary; it offers natural finishes for the top plus the radical solution of ISB chipboard. It also embraces the fashion world through a tweed decorative motif. Hub uses fabrics in intense colours, while the black or white frame contributes to cool or elegant locations and facilitates bold combinations. Hub connects, but it also

creates island workstations when privacy is required. The collection expands to include a system of three self-standing partitions which also serve as storage containers. This practical contribution to everyday work operations also matches Hub’s lines and fabrics. A panel is used to connect the various Hubs, workspaces open up or are enclosed; compositions can change in accordance with changing requirements to create new layouts. “The Hub project”, says Matteo Ragni”, “arose from a real need to recreate a physical and mental space within a workplace inhabited by different people. A space that was open and fostered sharing and an exchange of ideas, yet also a place for reflection and individual work. A kind of wall-less box to facilitate the osmotic dimension of relating with spaces and people. A relationship-oriented workstation which can be personalised and rearranged to meet individual needs, the direct descendant of the Abitacolo combi-bed that Bruno Munari first dreamt up to combine the different activities in a teenager’s day and map out the space for each one: rest/play/study/relationships. From the use of a simple, large, square table, the idea arose to create a “four-poster” table, a mini-loft where we could work, rest and feed on ideas, relations and good food; in a nutshell, experience a space. And so this small, cubic world measuring just 160 cm becomes an ideal venue for our relationships and all that they require, a kind of portal enabling us to collaborate with colleagues near and far.” The Fantoni Group (company founded by Achille Fantoni in 1882) is a leading manufacturer of office furniture, partition and storage wall systems, MDF (medium density fibreboard) and chipboard panels, melamine flooring and sounddeadening panels.

a bottom drawer, the space for the hard disk, the upper shelves and lighting. The arc lamp spans the entire desk creating a ambient light and leaving free the work area. Systems desk broader can be divided with the side panels to create more locations nearby. The interaction between plans and structure, design and durability, style and rigor, produces unexpected results comparable in some ways to the principle of communicating vessels. Inspired by the masters of mountaineering, K1-K2-K3 are wall systems easy to assemble. K1 allows you to organize and rationalize space while maintaining visual contact with the outside. It provides for the integration of modular wall panels and applying customizable graphics; K2 creates mosaics without having to follow the standard modular panel, being able to diversify the facades of the same partition at will; K3, characterized by collision with metal panels, offers important benefits of robustness and practicality without sacrificing aesthetics. cucine, mobili da ufficio e camere da letto, come spiega il brand manager Erika Rastelli.

LAS MOBILI INTERPRETS THE FUTURE divisionecontract focusBoxOffice

26 27 Las Mobili

Companies like Las Mobili, Modulo and Forsit, present in 80 countries around the world, could not remain indifferent to the tsunami of information technology. Among the new features include a new directional Jera of Orlandini Design, a product with a strong stage presence, right also in the price, built to meet the functional requirements but also aesthetic of the young entrepreneur "motivated". Jera is the challenge that Las Mobili launches to the market, being the first president of its history, a tool aimed to involve a different target. Jera is an ancient Celtic rune, has a suggestion ancestral belonging to an era without frills and mannerisms, an era in which the matter was carved in pure forms and monolithic. Jera is a block of granite, is an ancient trunk, is a gold ingot, is mass and matter to the primordial state. Jera is a directional conceived with an architectural approach markedly. The strength of the project is given by the plans of high density of matter from the joints between floors, panels, vertical and horizontal projections. Quite another motivation is the one that inspired the architect Paolo Pampanoni in designing the Parete Modulo, ideal for crop space reserved in social work environments, where to think, reflect and decide. With a difference: the wall, beyond the ease of assembly, it is the only, or one of the few, totally recyclable. This wall, designed by the architect Paul Pampanoni, in addition to the considerable ease of assembly and to the indispensable requirements to a product of this type, it has a unique feature for the sector: a total recyclability, being its components consist of glass and aluminum. Other contract products are Flags sharing plan: in the common perception of the office is seen as a hive in which people are forced to come and go and where it is almost impossible to find a space of tranquility and concentration. The office, in fact, is a very animated but things are changing, situations change quickly; the only thing that remains constant is change. Flags creates spaces where some of the positive thoughts and allows for efficient team work. Oxi Evolution: Las Mobili with this model evolves and updates a program that has been and is still an important and fundamental supply company, appreciated for its flexibility and ease of insertion in operational environments of any type of work. Iulio Executive: this new product that fits in the list of semidirectional successful products from Las Furniture has two undeniable values: the first design. Julius intends to follow the footsteps traced by Fill, a product that has been highly successful in the market. Iulio, in reality, it is an absolutely different, presenting itself with new legs, new plans, with the insertion of containers with flush sliding doors, Iulio is a program entirely made in MDF and 3D foil with new trendy finishes in wood type material effect that show an extreme lightness and elegance of the plans, obtained by introducing an outer profile satin.

Even in the most exclusive resorts in the Alps the Made in Italy helps to define luxury hospitality: as the Kempinski Residences St. Moritz, the Engadine, with five-star apartments from 100 to 475 square meters, adjacent to the prestigious Kempinski Grand Hotel Des Bains. experience in fashion retail for luxury brands, Cassina Contract has turned into reality the Versace concept. Cassina followed the single step of the project after the approved layout has been provided, from the technical drawings, to the production and the final installation of all furniture according to the project's details. The color choices of Versace are sophisticated: pure white, gold and brass are the predominant nuances. This creates a “shell, a sort of white drape able to show and enhance the preciousness of the Versace world. The Collection items are displayed on furniture made in Plexiglas, that are perfectly integrated with the walls' sinuous lines.

MAESTRI DELL'ACCOGLIENZA

Kempinski Grand Hotel Des Bains.

COEX DI LIMONTA, LA NATURA CONTRO LE FIAMME A new technology for the contract market, a new fabric for public environments: Limonta Coex introdice Naturally Safe. Coex is a 100% natural product, created with materials and fibers of vegetable origin such as linen, cotton and viscose, rendered completely fireproof through an innovative patented technology that doesn’t use chemical additives or flameretardant resins that may come in contact with skin and environment. With Coex it’s nature that raises barriers against flames. Phosphorus, nitrogen and sulfur, actually, going to modify the cellulose molecules in the fibers and plant compounds, make the materials safer and biodegradable. Naturally Safe fabrics collection meets all relevant international flame-retardant standards, ensuring the comfort and softness of natural fibers and the strength and brigtness colors. The collection was born after two years of studies made by the Research Centre of Limonta. In order to achieve at this result, we took advantage of the Coex technology, italian patent. Thanks to this technology, much more powerful than traditional synthetic flame retardants, you will enjoy all the features of the natural fibers, without sacrificing safety. Coex, with the cellulose, the biopolymer more present in nature, became a material that is 100% natural and safe. Here’s what the extraordinary benefits that characterize and differentiate Naturally Safe products from others currently on the market: They are fireproof, not simply flame retardant; 100% natural, not synthetic; resist at temperatures above 1.000 °C; biodegradable; no chemical additives or flame retardants, there is no formaldehyde or derivatives of chlorine and bromine; their performance is only the result of a molecular modification of cellulose. There are no harmful releases into environment. They carbonize and create a protective wall around flames, don’t melt or drip. All Naturally Safe

fabrics are manufactured and tested to the highest international standards of fire protection. Limonta was founded in 1893 in Costamasnaga, a village close to Como and then in one of the oldest European textile tradition. The first steps were directed to the production of jacquard tapestries and fabrics, and now the Limonta was distinguished by the high attention given to their productions. In the first decades of the century diverged productions, already with a view market-oriented, tapestry weaving, quilting, different structures of jacquard, velvets and then acquiring a textile culture very broad and diversified that is still one of the strengths of the company. A significant increase in size occurred in the 50's, thanks to a strategic decision summarized in the concept of "textile finishing" and that has led the company to become a safe reference name in the field of special fabrics, treated and untreated, with the possibility of using in various sectors, clothing, leather, footwear, furniture, maintaining the ability to work, edit, enrich the fabric without distorting it. From that choice, the development of Limonta continued harmoniously, touching in turn different segments of the clothing market (from fabrics impervious to lighter cottons for informal wear nylons with silky), maintaining and improving all experiences. The group Limonta is a “family” of 1,320 employees, 10 plants, 6 branches and 9 stores. Limonta SpA oversees the sector, leather and materials for footwear through its division Fabrics and Coatings; jacquard fabrics for furniture are developed by Limonta Interior Coverings, while the production of wall coverings is the responsibility of Limonta Wall/Domus. Society is a brand of Limonta SpA designs and manufactures accessories for home textiles of the highest quality. Limonta Print is a division recently affiancatasi to Fabrics and Coatings to develop skills related to inkjet prints on fabrics plans. At Fabrics and Coatings, directed more towards the world of men's fashion, alongside the division Black on Black, creative and dynamic, capable of setting trends especially in the field of women's clothing. Interior Coverings division has developed its mission in the textile sector, coming to be an extremely flexible production of jacquards thanks to a CAD Textile very advanced and a hall looms particularly updated.

A wooden building made only with materials from Trentino woods labeled with the PEFC embodies the spirit of the customers of the brand that focuses on comfort, quality and aesthetics. The company, actually, is a member dell'iPHA International Passive House Association (International Passive House), a network of designers, researchers, manufacturers and manufacturers aiming to promote the passive house and spread the knowledge of this standard to an increasingly constructive wider.

The Project

The new store of the house of underwear is located in Faenza and is proposed as a structure where the light and visibility play a leading role. The choice of wood granting itself an architectural clean lines, great performance characteristics constructive. The choice of framework construction, where the insulation is placed inside between the uprights of the frame itself, played in favor of a reduction of the thickness of the finished wall and of an increase in the useful surface-commercial, that in a shop open to public requiring amplitude is not small thing. With the system frame wall elements are produced in the factory and then assembled on site. Already in the planning phase it is planned integration of plant components with the structural part. The technology of frame construction for the construction of buildings in green building is synonymous with safety and efficiency. Moreover, the system is particularly suitable for timber frame buildings whose architectural design both plant and free facade. The frame construction system has a long history and can count on a very mature technology developed over many years of use in the countries of Northern Europe. The chassis has been buffered with insulation panels made of wood fiber and finished with an outer coat wood fiber higher density. On the outer surface it was applied the facade cladding siloxane. The walls thus ensure excellent thermal-acoustic. From the perspective of architectural design was entrusted to the Studio Habitat Design of Castiglione (Mantova). The project is designed to give maximum visibility to the goods on display with 5 large glass front topped by a curved roof that inside this is taken up by large wooden beams that follow the same trend.

A WORD AND AN EXHIBITION www.lineapelle-fair.it/Lineapelle

The word Lineapelle means the line which starts from the hide and finishes at the tanned leather. The tanner buys the skin sold by slaughterhouses and transforms it in luxurious leather. In other words, he is the first and the oldest ecologist because he avoids the serious hygienic problems related to the abandoned dead skins. Today Italian Tanners practice the sustainability much more than many their competi-

tors. They publish every year a Sustainability Report on their national situation. They have inherited the skills of working the leather. Their national association U.N.I.C. has found in Pompei (Naples) destroyed by volcano Vesuvius eruption 2000 years ago same old tanneries and wall paintings of people dressed with leather. Lineapelle is editing a movie which tells the story since then to now. The culture has become an important strategy for Italian Tanners like lastly shown by the ballet “ The Cloak of the Dragon” also. It was performed at Alice Tully Hall of the Lincoln Center on 20th of July. Several years ago Lineapelle published a children’s fables book with leather acting as the main character. It was distributed in the Italian schools and later was transformed in a ballet. Milan’s Teatro della Scala International étoile Sabrina Brazzo staged the performance. Italian tanners account for 18% of leathers produced in the world, they buy 24% of the comprehensive raw mate-

rials and semi tanned skins, they sell 26% of the finished leathers exported internationally. The United States are one of the most important market. Last year they exported to the States leathers for 187 million of euros: +3% on 2013. USA represent the 8th destination abroad of Italian industry. In the first 4 months of 2015 their export to U.S.A. has increased of 10% . They represent the 30% of total import of leathers from U.S. At the same time Italy imported last year raw hides and semi tanned leathers from U.S. for 234 million of euro (+24%) which is the 2nd supplier of raw material for Italians. If the free trade agreement between U.S.A. and Europe is born the tanners should save money for 7 million of euros in the duties. The American brands ( Michael Kors, Coach, Marc Jacobs, Kate Spade…) have increased very much their import of Italian leathers in the last 2 years: +8% for bags and similar, +2% for shoes. Finally, Lineapelle Milan will be held on 9-11 September : 1163 exhibitors from 42 Countries, 20031 visitors from 110 Countries.
