CONTACTS FOR CONTRACTS

READY FOR CHANGE PRONTI AL CAMBIAMENTO Among several hints and suggestions provided by EuroShop, the most important is the new vision of Contract. The five days in Düsseldorf, attended by almost 110 thousand visitors, confirmed that the industry is like a think tank engaged in writing down a procedure manual. For this reason, as nothing is granted, we have to be ready for change. In the front line, among Italian operators at EuroShop, we met renowned companies that have been able to develop their skills and expertise beyond the domestic market. But also small and excellent entrepreneurial organizations, which have invented a totally new role to play within the contract industry. An example of the willingness to change comes from the architecture studios that are naturally inclined to constant innovation for their education background. More and more towns, especially in emerging countries, rely on big design studios to reconsider their concept. Customers ask for articulated solutions, where high quality of life is what matters. The Salone del Mobile in Milan – a focal topic of this magazine – has put this issue at the center of its exhibition. Reminding all operators that Made in Italy represents a competitive edge. Furthermore, the future of public areas seems to be on a large scale, as you will read, and contradictions between global markets are still huge: in Asia they are developing areas that can host 500 thousand people, in Europe there is an increasing recovery of ancient buildings. From one extreme to the other, passing through environmentally sustainable prefab structures, applications of new materials in the construction industry, malls and retail chains that are more and more similar to huge spectacular machines,

Contract represents a suitable common denominator. For many companies, this will mean to quit the role of manufacturer and become a company of global services. On the other hand, like Albert Einstein said: "Let’s not pretend that things will change if we keep doing the same things. A crisis can be a real blessing to any person, to any nation. For all crises bring progress. It’s inventive in crisis that is born, as well as discoveries, and big strategies. Let us work hard instead. Let us stop, once and for all, the menacing crisis that represents the tragedy of not being willing to overcome it." Driven by the excellent feedback to our first issue, we are proud of presenting you Divisione Contract/two. Many industry operators have encouraged us to move on in this direction, and we take this opportunity to thank all of them. Enjoy your reading. Buona lettura.

LISTONE GIORDANO, FAMILY CONTRACT

divisionecontract interview

06 07 ANDREA MARGARITELLI

For the Margaritelli Group, founded in 1870, Contract is a familiar topic. Back in the 60s, the company had approached the French market, with an even more groundbreaking than it is today face the Chinese sector. Experience with foreign countries, on the other hand, is inscribed in the DNA of the family. If at the beginning of the activity was focused on the production of mechanical tools for agriculture and forestry manufacturing , starting in 1904 Margaritelli start industrial-scale production of railway sleepers of wood, of which he became the main provider for the State Railways. The adventure beyond national borders began in 1962, when it opened the French factory at Fontaines, in the heart of Burgundy, specializing in forest management and primary processing of wood. It was a relocation driven by the need to access to raw materials: Italy has never had a forestry policy, while in France has ancient origins. The other pillar is placed in 1984, the year of the patent for Listone Giordano, an innovative product that allows the group Margaritelli to establish itself as a global leader in the market for hardwood floors. Today Margaritelli is a multi-business group , operating in various industrial sectors, from wood floors to interior, from railway sleepers to safety and noise barriers for road works and industrial vehicles. In addition to the establishment of Miralduolo Torgiano (Perugia), dedicated to the most sophisticated processing steps that complete the production cycle of Listone Giordano, the company also operates offices in France, Germany and Usa. "Being present on foreign markets is a necessary condition to establish its brand and to assist clients in post-sales service , which is crucial in the field of Contract", says marketing director Andrea Margaritelli (in the picture).

What are the main difficulties of working with foreign markets? "The main issue is the choice of human resources, which represent an important asset . The choice of the right people is 80 to 90% of the result: if you make a mistake, you run the risk of having to start over after a few years". You are famous for their innovative patents, such as the Listone Giordano: protect the brand abroad is more difficult than in Italy? "On the contrary, foreign patents are protected in a timely manner, but our best protection is represented by an organization aimed at producing innovation: the resources that would be required to counteract the imitators, especially in terms of time, it is best to use them to maintain the technical gap with the others". Your group has chosen not to exhibit at the Salone del Mobile (April 8 to April 13) in Milan: why? "We will organize various events in the Fuorisalone, but we'll still present at Madexpo, which for us is an unmissable event. On the topic fairs there are two schools of thought: there are those who think they are overtaken by modern technological systems . For us, this virtualization is too high: I continue to believe that personal relationships are more important. The context, rather, is amended as follows: once you have participated for a first contact with the interlocutors, today this demand is paid from the web. The fairs have lost their original purpose, which was linked to the sale. But in order to develop personal relationships are fundamental to why we chose the Fuorisalone, which by nature lends itself better to this type of activity.

Your contract division has been operating since 2008: what advantage this experience in the industry? "We're huge supporters of team work, and to make contract you have to have the mentality fits. I can not tell if we were the pioneers, but surely we have built credibility and reliability in the contract that makes the difference. Our customers agree their trust and we must be able to repay the commitment, creativity, respect for the timing and terms, availability of materials, laying, the ability to provide quantity important, often non-standard in diffe-

rent parts of the world, and after-sales service. Often we start from scouting for raw materials: we leverage on a characteristic that is to have an integrated supply chain, from sustainable forest management and processing of the first sawmill. We are present in 30 countries around the world, and in most cases we can also offer the service of installation. This type of corporate culture has earned us the trust of important clients: Listone Giordano paved, for example, the Armani Hotel in Dubai, the Trump tower in Canada, the Sapphire skyscraper in Turkey. But Contract it is not just real estate...

In recent years, companies have witnessed great exploits, and large chunks of the world market: the contract sector represents an opportunity to get out of this time of uncertainty? "On one side is now clear that there are overseas markets and beyond with a greater economic vitality. For Italian companies seek operational space in increasingly tired and static is a business. The chance of the contract is important, but need particular entrepreneurial attitude: compared to retail, commercial organiza-

tion and the level of services is completely different. The episodic situations are difficult, serves a extended structure can deal with every aspect of the supply chain. For when you are concerned, which are the geographic areas of greatest interest? And what products are most in demand? "We work in all 30 countries outside Europe, where the majority rests on the retail channel. But with an approach antithetical to Italy: the floor is purchased along with the house, which is already laid. In Asia, for exam-

ple, the house is purchased already furnished, choosing between different styles: even the knives must be already in the drawer. After all, the current center of gravity in the dynamic field of construction is located in East Asia, followed by the Middle East, the United States and Canada. These then are the most interesting areas. Among other things, the more you go away, most Listone Giordano is perceived as a typical product of Italian design. In Italy there is a clear division between interior finishes and furnishings, while outside the house is a single entity. And in the countries of the center of gravity are chosen products that speak Italian. But contract works also in Italy and in big cities. We had the pleasure to devote attention to Milan through a partnership with Ernesto Meda we are working with a lot of satisfaction to the City Life project .

divisionecontract interview

Finally, how it goes Casa Umbria Shanghai? "Very good, a real example of comforting and healthy partnership between the public and private sectors. The basic idea is shared by a showroom of high-end companies in Umbria, in a prestigious location in Shanghai. The rental costs are financed by the Foreign Umbria, and space management is entrusted to the member companies, who already have significant experience in the Chinese market. For now there are eleven companies, with three production companies exhibiting permanently: Listone Giordano, Tagina Ceramics Art and Talenti. Instead, Alcantara, Caprai Blueside, Divania, Eurolegno, Legnomagia and Mastro Raphael have a space for temporary exhibition. I like to call this project “A house that was founded in Shanghai in Umbria to bring the whole of Italy ".

Infine, come procede Casa Umbria Shanghai?

EUROSHOP 2014 EXCEEDS OPTIMISTIC EXPECTATIONS

12 13 EUROSHOP

More than 109,000 trade visitors attended the world’s No.1 trade fair for retail and its partners in Düsseldorf –110 nations represented Retail companies and their partners came to their leading global event, EuroShop to Düsseldorf with optimism. Retailers’ currently high propensity to invest gave rise to justified hopes for a positive outcome of the trade fair. And people’s high expectations for EuroShop 2014 were actually far surpassed over the five days of the trade fair. From the first day of the event an outstanding atmosphere prevailed thanks to many new leads and an unexpectedly high number of business deals closed. Rejoicing at the excellent response, Hans Werner Reinhard, Deputy Managing Director at Messe Düsseldorf, said: “All previous records of 2011 were broken! We are particularly delighted with the increasingly international flair and decision-making competence of our trade visitors.” Two thirds of EuroShop visitors travelled to Düsseldorf from abroad with significantly higher numbers from overseas – both from North, Central and South America as well as from the entire Asian region. Delegations of large retail chains from such countries as Brazil, Colombia, Canada, the USA and China were welcomed at EuroShop. A total of 109,000 visitors from 110 countries were represented. In terms of European countries, more trade visitors from the Eastern countries such as the Baltic region and the Russian Federation were represented in Düsseldorf. 73% of all EuroShop visitors were executives, two thirds of all visitors stated they were involved in their companies’ decision–making processes. With its size and diversity EuroShop 2014 provided a comprehensive overview of all important trends in the four segments EuroConcept – Shop Fitting, Architecture & Store Design, Lighting, Refrigeration Furniture and Cooling Systems; EuroSales – Visual

Marketing and Merchandising, POS-Marketing; EuroCIS – Retail Technology; EuroExpo – Exhibition Stand Construction, Design and Event. The 2,226 exhibitors from 57 countries included the market leaders from all these segments as well as young enterprises from growth markets. Reinhard sums up: “The trade fair days have confirmed: EuroShop is and will remain the most important meeting point for the retail world. And its importance goes far beyond this: “Operators of exhibition centres from countries like Brazil, Japan and China travelled to EuroShop in Düsseldorf with dozens of stand construction entrepreneurs from their countries. Furthermore, we were especially able to welcome many architects from both home and abroad this year.” Two aspects, above all others, were centre stage at EuroShop 2014: the staging and emotionalisation of the shopping experience through spectacular shop fittings, innovative lighting concepts, creative design ideas and extraordinary materials that bricks-and-mortar retail can use to stand its ground versus clicks-andmortar shopping. In addition to this, the multi-channel theme – i.e. integrating and linking the various different channels like the offline, web and mobile businesses with latest technologies – was omnipresent at EuroShop. Beyond this, energy-efficient lighting systems as well as energy-enhanced refrigeration systems and furniture were in focus for food retailers. Michael Gerling, CEO of EHI Retail Institut and Chairman of the EuroShop Exhibitors’ Advisory Council, said he was very satisfied with the success of EuroShop 2014: “EuroShop 2014 has offered everything in terms of the creative and technical solutions needed to shape up retail for the future.” EuroShop clearly reflects the very great willingness amongst retailers to invest, said Gerling and added: “Total investment of retailers in the extension, rebuilding and new construction of their outfits amounted to

LIGHT + BUILDING 2014: EARTH ENERGY EFFICIENCY WILL SAVE PLANET EARTH divisionecontract eventi

16 17 LIGHT + BUILDING

The “switch” between fossil fuels to renewable energy has monopolized the debate in the latest edition of the fair in Frankfurt. Starting with the motto " The best energy is the energy that is not consumed " , 2,458 exhibitors from around the world have introduced new products with which you can achieve great energy savings especially in the field of contract, where are given large amounts of material to a single customer. As noted in the days of exposure, the use of LED lighting on a global scale would allow energy savings of up to 70% compared to today. Reflecting the high level of dynamism of the sector, the results of Light + Building 2014 could not have been better. The exhibition entitled "intelligent Powered Building", for example, showed how consumption can be monitored and culled through the use of innovative technologies: the buildings already connected to the network generate, store, distribute and use energy with higher efficiency than conventional standards. Resource conservation and energy efficiency are the driving forces of the lighting market. Throughout the world, approximately 20% of electricity is used for lighting. The modern LED technology with intelligent light management allows you to cut your bills by well over 70 percent. In addition to new design options and features, the digitization of light also translates into greater comfort and safety. As a result, the people and the light (ie, the effect of light on people and the impact of light on health, work performance and well-being ), was one of the focal points of the lighting section of the Light + Building 2014. For example, it is possible to adapt the color of the artificial light to that of natural light during the day and, therefore, to the human biorhythm. Great interest was aroused by an Italian project called CoeLux to the work of Professor Paolo Di Trapani, a professor of physics at the Department of Science and High Technology of the University of Insubria in Como. Trapani and his team have developed this fake opening in the ceiling that projects within a light that perfectly imitates the sun's rays. The illusion of being outdoors is made possible by the use of the latest generation LED, able to reproduce the spectrum of sunlight, but also by optical systems capable of “move” rays and nanotechnology with which you can play diffusion of light waves. The innovative scope of the invention goes beyond the architectural and aesthetic : just think about how much exposure to natural light affects the mood of the people. Not surprisingly, the project was funded by the European Union under the program to promote technological innovation. In the first experimental applications involving several partners including the Milan Metro, hotels, shopping malls, offices, museums, airports. The development of intelligent building management in

the lighting industry is thus generating a positive stimulus to the economy. The average potential for growth in the sector is around 12% per year until 2020. Sales of LED lighting fixtures in Europe are estimated at a value of 9 billion in 2016 and 14 billion euro in 2020.

150 SMART&FAST CITIES, FORECASTING FURNITURE DEMAND TO 2020 Why focusing on cities rather than on countries? Today, the world is more about cities than about countries. Cities are geographic concentrations of people, skills, economic activities and capital infrastructures, which are making them the key actors of the world economy’s growth. Companies willing to increase and extend their activities in a new market cannot disregard the development trend and peculiarities of the cities within a country. Population’s growth, citizen’s economic welfare, quality of life, availability and accessibility to resources, quality of infrastructures, political stability, consumers’ attitudes are all factors that should be taken into account, when selecting a city where to invest. Which are the most promising cities for the furniture market in the coming years? A new research from CSIL titled ‘150 Smart&Fast Cities: Forecasting Furniture Demand to 2020’ and aiming to answer to this question has been issued in February 2014. The research throws light on 150 cities located in 72 countries and accounting for more than a quarter of the global furniture consumption. The selection of the cities was driven by looking at the growth rates expected by 2020 in terms of population, economic welfare

and consumption (fast dimension), as well as at the capacity of the city to enhance its resources through efficient infrastructures, to improve the quality of life for its citizens, to create a favorable environment for doing business, as well as to offer good investment opportunities (smart dimension). Results of CSIL research show that the selected 150 cities are expected to generate a potential demand of furniture and furnishing products equal to US$ 160.8 billion in the year 2020, which represents an increase of 42% compared to the value estimated for 2012. Overall, rising income levels, global economic exposure of the city, population growth, development of residential and office markets, booming of the tourism sector and the need to be prepared to host international events are amongst the factors likely to drive the furniture demand of these cities by 2020. TALKING ABOUT CITIES Bangalore and Jinan are two fast growing cities from the Asia Pacific area, which are expected to significantly push the demand for the furniture market. As a

consequence of the population growth (higher than 30% by 2020), these two cities are expanding their geographical borders and putting pressure on housing stocks. In North America, population is projected to grow at a moderate pace compared to Asian cities. However, the rising of the immigration rate is making cities like Denver, Houston, New York, San Francisco, Kolkota to become increasingly cosmopolitan. In Europe, cities such as Barcelona, Madrid, London, Brussels, Amsterdam and Athens are increasingly attracting students, working age people, young families and migrants. The young and multiethnic profile of these cities is believed to bring about different tastes, preferences, needs, purchasing attitudes and disposal income to the furniture markets. Consumers in Ho Chi Minn City are increasingly becoming ‘west-oriented’ (especially young people). In Tokyo, consumers are paying much more attention to high quality and high performing products, while Dalian is an emerging high-end market. Overall, the increase of economic welfare of the selected cities is expected to boost household disposal income and to increase consumption as well. By 2020, cities like Moscow, Dallas, Chicago, Tokyo, Singapore, Hong Kong will see an increasing share of households with a disposal income higher than US$85,000, which makes them appealing markets for high-end products. KEY DEMAND DRIVERS The construction sector will be the driver of the furniture demand in many of the selected cities. Constructions of new houses are planned in Boston,

Baltimore and San Diego in order to face the increase of immigration and expansion of middle-income groups. A booming hotel construction is expected in cities like Reykjavìk and Lyon in Europe. Lodging sector development is an important driver of many cities in the Middle East and South America such as Dubai, Doha, Lima, Rio de Janeiro, where increased tourism flows as well as the hosting of international events are pushing the lodging sectors which, in turn, will foster the demand for furniture and the furnishing products, especially in the contract sector. There are cities which are economically booming and are undergoing a radical transformation of their economy shifting to more service-oriented sectors, through the construction of Special Economic Zones (for instance Tianjin and Qingdao in China), high tech parks, implementation of large projects (e.g. Kochi is going to become the new Silicon Valley of the State of Kerala in India), construction of financial and commercial centers (e.g. Riyadh in the Middle East). These changes are expected to boost demand for new office space and in turn for workstations and office furniture. Cities like Bonn and Berlin in Europe, San Francisco de Quito in South America are transforming themselves into international business venues and, by doing so, they are boosting demand for new business centers. While some cities are extremely interesting for their economically and demographically fast growing rate to 2020, others deserve attention for being outperformer in terms of quality of life and ease of doing business and for boasting advanced transport infrastructure and strategic geographic position. The Australian Sydney and Melbourne are amongst the world’s most liveable cities along with Vancouver in Canada and Vienna in Europe. Monterrey and Tijuana boast a strategic location for doing business, being located in Mexico and very close to the US market. The new CSIL Report ‘150 Smart & Fast Cities: Forecasting Furniture Demand to 2020’ (over 360 pages, Edition I, Language: English) has been issued in February 2014. Comparative tables of 150 cities are provided, showing the expected range of growth which will be faced in 2020. 150 cities profiles include the performance of each city in terms of quality of life, business attractiveness and governance as well as the following key forecasts to 2020: Population growth rate, Gross domestic income per capita, Household growth rate, Household growth rate by level of income, Household’s consumption growth rate, Furniture demand. Data and forecasts are summarised in table format and are complemented by qualitative information which could be of interest for furniture and furnishing players, such as constructions planned in the city in the coming years, availability and quality of infrastructures, investment opportunities, booming tourism and international events to be hosted in the city, etc. Online purchase and immediate download at: www.worldfurnitureonline.com For more information about the Report please contact Jessica Catalano: catalano@csilmilano.com

In Europa, città come Barcellona, Madrid, Londra, Bruxelles, Amsterdam e Atene stanno sempre più attirando studenti, persone in età lavorativa, famiglie giovani e migranti.

DEL SISTEMA CASA A CONVERSATION WITH GIUSEPPE SEGALLA, SENIOR PARTNER OF KOINOS MANAGEMENT (WWW.KOINOSMANAGEMENT.IT) In the present scenario of continued contraction of the retail channel in the traditional markets, Contract is an opportunity for Italian companies of the System House (lighting, furniture, floors, doors & windows, heating, air conditioning, home automation, etc), but the term "contract" is still hazy for many Italian entrepreneurs. We start from: what is meant by the word contract. "For a first definition of contract we can use the words "large turnkey projects", or the supply, of direct commission or tender, a complex set of products, customdesigned or custom, and related services needed to install them by the date set by the existing contract between the client and the general contractor, where the creation of products and services is normally outsourced. credibility of suppliers is a critical success factor, together with the contract price. Responsible for the entire project and commodity supply management for hotels, apartments, airports, museums, cruise ships, etc.., is the general contractor : the role of a complexity that will not be within the reach of all the Italian manufacturers. the contract, however, is a real opportunities for firms in the House System, according to the different activities that are able to undertake - the general contractor or subcontractor to a simple supplier - based on management capacity. Compared to the retail market, consolidated by the Italian manufacturing companies in Italy and abroad, the contract is the only channel to develop markets in emerging countries where there is no distribution system. However, an opportunity that involves complex management processes for corporate management.

AND THEREFORE IS IT USEFUL TO CLARIFY WHAT IS NOT CONTRACT Many businesses selling exchange a thousand tables catalog as a contract, while it is a good supply, not contract. Nor is the setting of the furnishings of a hotel in the contract not only provide products but are made whole projects and related services. Neither a simpler strategy of retail to conquer new markets. To undertake the contract, it is necessary to reform the traditional concept of the company - based on the design, manufacture and supply of products in the catalog with the understanding that foreign firms are structured and have financial capabilities. Retail and Contract: what are the differences? The Italian manufacture has traditionally turned to the retail channel for the sale of its products, designed and manufactured to be distributed and sold in the catalog, through direct outlets or multi. The firm contract, however, provides "turnkey projects" and, from the point of view of civil, a contractor. Its business is project management. The design is very important because this largely depends on the value of the contract: the project may affect up to 8% on the cost of construction, but is responsible for 75% of costs. Dynamism and flexibility are essential to support large volumes and tight deadlines. Fixed costs and production, vertical integration, create rigidity and should be eliminated. For this contract the firm does not produce at its core, but it does outsourcing. Retail contract and must not

be contaminated because, otherwise, you are likely to demolish the reputation earned in the traditional market. In the "turnkey project" involving multiple actors, but what exactly? The interlocutors are compared to other retailer (shop, store), and enduser companies that routinely call. In the contract, the company communicates with : architecture, developer of real estate projects, land owners, general contractor or interior. The example of a hotel contract is useful to trace the profile of the actors, and above all the customer is the owner who owns the land and develop a project with the developer, relying also to the operator. Architectural and interior design firm study are involved in defining the specifications of the contract. The first deals with the structure and architecture, interior design study interior design. The general contractor is at the top and can be supported by procurement company and cost controller (which depends on the owner and operator). Finally, manufacturers, suppliers and sub-contractors, which will provide, for example, the hotel room : the sample room may include only the bed area, extend or include entrance to the bathroom. What are the sectors that affect the contract market? Hotels and Hospitality (airports, stations), commercial spaces (restaurants, bars, shops, shopping centers), business (offices, banks), public buildings, such as theaters, museums, universities, marine, and of course the hospital residential buildings. In the United Kingdom and the United States contract is the only sales channel for kitchens and bathrooms. This condition together with the management complexity of "turnkey" limited international expansion of Italian manufacturers of kitchens. In terms of market segments, the contract offers many opportunities, but entails a new approach for the Italian companies that undertake this business: migrate from production to services, where reliability and accuracy of the pricing strategies are key variables in the decisions of the customer. And what are the implications for migration from retail to contract? It's important to consider in advance: what impact has the change of role, and skills, to the furniture manufacturers in terms of organizational structure, project management, corporate communications and product partners within the supply chain strategies of vertical integration, internal documentation, and performance evaluation. What does it mean to manage the project contract, with the contract to delivery? "Managing the project" is to understand the client's needs, develop the project in dialogue with the architectural firm, choose suitable suppliers, meet economic requirements, and if necessary, revise costs and prices, follow construction, logistics, and after-sales service. Every detail must be defined in order to make business plans and specifications appropriate tools to finalize the project. In this sense, the project becomes predominant on the executive. In a contract where they are involved actors with different interests and objectives, the trade agreement must be based on the maximum guarantee in favor of the buyer, which "must be in possession of any risk."

24 25 SEGALLA

What are the areas of improvement to undertake contract? First of all, communicate and offer potential customers the value - buyers Italian lifestyle, of quality of form, materials, and the set of details that create an ambience of taste authentically italian. It’s must also take appropriate skills to be competitive in organizational processes and product service. Pay attention to materials, sustainability and innovation. The excellence of Italian manufacturing stems from the skillful workmanship of wood, marble and ceramics, which must be continually reinvented itself to improving the quality of supply. The products with the best quality, lighter and more durable ones are competitive in the territories of " turnkey project". The goal is to ask yourself: continuous innovation, to be the first in Italy and abroad. In many Contract compete only on price, but we need to focus on materials, quality and uniqueness. Another must is the internationalization and relocation: to produce only in Italy, believed to protect the made ??in Italy, without addressing the internationalization and relocation of production, certainly does not lead to the acquisition of contracts and contract does not promote this business.

What can be learned from the experiences of successful international contract? Cure the after-sales servic ; find reliable partners from manufacturers, isolate activities from those retail contract; maintain relations with architects, contractors, hotel operators, etc., have "nodes" informed about local projects real estate development and procurement in emerging countries.

How to tell the quintessence of our manufacturing, namely the craft of products "made in Italy" to foreign customers? What did we see the miraculous process that is behind a product? Last, but not least, take good project managers, necessary to manage turnkey projects, but still lacking in Italy. It requires a contract division within the companies of furniture? Operate in the contract does not necessarily mean creating a new division because there are multiple roles that business can play in a "tur-

nkey project". And ' needed is a clear separation between retail and contract production : promiscuity and complexity create obstacles, such as measuring the results. In Italy, the main competitors are grouped into two categories : those who have split their nature and produce for both markets, and businesses that contract does not have to do with the production. In companies "design based" is preferable to implement a contract division to cope with the strategic and operational management necessary for new business. In companies "brand" that do not participate in tenders for not compete on cost and devalue the content of the tender, the contract division has key functions distinct from retail, such as: research and development, sales and marketing. What are the target of communication in the contract? The belief that it is sufficient to replicate the methods of retail distribution and communication to achieve results in the contract is a myth to dispel, to go against the accepted assumption that the "turnkey project" is a different way of working, and targets and messages are different. In the statement, you must first define the target to, what is its architects, owner and developer or general contractor and interior? Defined the purpose of the communication (the specificity of their business) and the medium, we proceed by aiming the lens: with CD-ROM for architects, with catalogs of contract projects, special events, road shows and essential periodicals. How to evaluate the profitability of the contract? The importance of evaluating the gain arising from the contract not only for the individual

vizio offerto.

project, but for the entire sector contract. The contract may be a good opportunity, but to see if it is profitable for the company you need to structure an appropriate accounting system and information dedicated to the management of the orders. The criteria for assessing the viability of the Contract must be associated with the strategic motivations that led to work in this field, for example: to diversify, to enter new markets or because it is an absolute must in some contexts (for example in America with regard to kitchen and bathroom contract is an obvious choice). The contract may in fact be a source of income but under certain conditions. To appreciate it you need to have an analytical accounting system that helps us to think in terms of orders, it is not easy because the company lacks the information to be retrieved in different contexts. The key issue is to understand what are the variable costs of the project specifics and shared. If there is a part of research and development who works for the contract and for the retail sector should be spun off, for example, you can count the hours/commitment of the people or share turnover. You have to at least try to get to calculate a net margin or profit of the project, at least initially do only part contract, to understand if you are making or not. Times are already tough, the contract sector, due to its characteristics, it adds difficulty: the payment terms are long, even those of production and there is a need to raise funds. The contract commissions do not produce immediate income but it will produce later.

Everything is ready for the 53rd of the Salone Internazionale del Mobile, which with the biennial EuroCucina and the Salone Internazionale del Bagno, in addition to the Salone Satellite, Milan take you to all the novelties in furniture with around 2,400 exhibitors. To animate the pavilions of the Fiera Milano Rho (8 to 13 April) will also contribute to a cultural proposal that will involve eight big names in international architecture, involved in the project “Where do architects live?”. Milan is the international capital of the furnishings, the only city in the world that hosts an event likely to attract more than 300 thousand visitors from 160 countries. Divided into three stylistic types, Classic and modern design, the 53rd edition of the Salone Internazionale del Mobile, together with the International Furnishing Accessories Exhibition, will take

the field more than 1,700 exhibitors between Italian and foreign. To be precise, according to the press office, come to Milan 1,749 companies, over 650 designers at the Salone Satellite, an area of 340 thousand square meters. “The strength of the exhibition lies in the industrial and commercial sector that has experienced", said yesterday the president of Cosmit (the body exhibition in Milan in 1961 that gave birth to the Salone Internazionale del Mobile), Claudio Luti, during the presentation to the printing the new edition”, made up of many companies and craftsmen wood and by long tradition. A unique heritage, that the whole world envies us and that even the crisis has failed to dispel”. Dissipate maybe not, but it certainly put a strain on the difficult situation, with a loss of revenue of almost 40% in the domestic market since 2008”. But I

remain optimistic, because for the first time in my life I really see the commitment from everyone, individuals, institutions and organizations, towards a common goal, which involves all the excellence of our territory, from design to fashion, culture and food”. This was echoed by the president of FederlegnoArredo Roberto Snaidero: “The bonus furniture has been a breath of fresh air that has allowed our companies to recover 340 million in three months. We are confident that the recent agreement to take effect even with Caf to help the citizens to use the tax deductions and that can be accepted by the government our request for a VAT of 8% on furniture to the first house of the young couples, a measure that is already all over Europe”. Pending further structural measures to boost consumption in Italy, manufacturers of furniture look especially exports (+2.5% in 2013 to 10.8 billion share). In this sense, the appointment of the exhibition is critical, with over 300 thousand visitors from 160 countries expected during “design week” which historically has grown up around the event. In the abstract, the Exhibition 2014 will be also a rehearsal for Expo 2015: the goal is to open the fair to the city, braiding business and leisure, industry and culture, giving rise to an induced that, thanks to the Fuorisalone last year has exceeded 200 million Euros for the tourist and commercial system. And that does not stop in Milan, but also brings wealth to the neighboring provinces”. The Salone del Mobile manages every year to make the city more attractive and is an

example of how to live all areas", he explained at the end of the presentation to the press, the mayor of Milan Giuliano Pisapia”. Our goal for 2015 is that Milan is lively, friendly and internationally during the design week throughout the six -month Expo, during which they are expected twenty million tourists from all nations". For this reason, the exhibition features not only the well-established presence of the most important companies in the sector, but also the entry of new companies in the world of furniture, such as Hastens, Kvadrat, Iittala, Tom Dixon, and the fashion industry, such as Ferré, Pierre Cardin, Ungaro. They return to expose even historical brands such as Flötotto, Thonet, SCP, Treca, Wittmann. The 20th edition of EuroCucina, however, will be spread over more than 25 thousand square meters in four pavilions: 9-11, 13-15. Landmark event in the industry at an international level, EuroCucina offers a wide range of types of furniture and design solutions. To confirm the importance of the biennial dedicated to the kitchen for the return of big names, such as Alno, Cesar, Dada, Mobalpa, Pedini, Schiffini, Valcucine. The proof of the interest growing for kitchens Italian is also confirmed by the data of exports from January to August 2013 showed an overall 5.4% compared to the same period of 2012. We are witnessing a significant growth in the export of kitchens made in Italy, not only in major markets such as the UK (+90 %), the USA (+62.7 %), Turkey (+39.2%), the Switzerland (+22.8 %) and Russia (+9.4%), according to the target market with 49.5 million euro, but also in new markets such as the states of Panama (+114.2 %), Singapore (+113.3 %), Hong Kong (+60.4 %) and Australia (4.8 %). Next to EuroCucina the collateral event FTK (Technology For the Kitchen), dedicated to the proposal of builtin appliances and cooker hoods, which presents products, prototypes and designs for the kitchen of the future. FTK also indicates the presence of new companies, such as Arçelik and Sub-

There are also many new investments here: Florim, Geberit, Graff, Kartell by Laufen, Santagostino. The export figures of the bathroom sector between January and August 2013 appearing on growth and find concrete representation in the Milan event. Several foreign markets are, in fact, in which the percentage increase in exports of Italian furniture for the bathroom is significant: China (+32.7 %), South Korea (+24.6 %), Russia (+17, 9%), Turkey (+17.1%), Sweden (+11.8%) and Australia (+10.7 %). Changes in sight for the Salone Satellite, dedicated to young designers, which will be located in Halls 13-15. Is repeated for the fifth year the Salone Satellite Award contest that rewards the best three projects related to the product categories at the fair that aims to promote targeted contacts between the under 35 and the exhibitors of the show. Important commercial proposal of the Show is joined, as usual, a prestigious collateral event, curated by Francesca Molteni and David Pizzigoni, titled “Where do architects live". Shigeru Ban, Mario Bellini, David Chipperfield, Massimiliano and Doriana Fuksas, Zaha Hadid, Marcio Kogan, Daniel Libeskind and Bijoy Jain -Studio Mumbai, eight important names in international architecture, will open the doors of their” private homes”, told the pavilion 9. It will be the starting point for a reflection on the transverse mode, experiences and trends of contemporary with the aim of telling what it means today to design a house. “The aim of the exhibition", says Luti, “is to get to know those who are changing the face of our cities, the configuration of the global landscape and the collective imagination, and suggest new ways of designing domestic environments at all latitudes. The task of the Salone del Mobile is also this, to make culture system”. The curator of the exhibition, Francesca Molteni (which for the Salone Internazionale del Mobile had already taken care of “Design Dance" by Michela Marelli in 2012 and “A sea of stars” in 2010), was met in private homes of eight contemporary architects to filmarne exteriors and environments, and interviewing each of them on poetic inspiration and the choices that have guided their design process and professional. ta su oltre 25mila metri quadrati in quattro padiglioni: 9-11, 13-15.

regard, we report a joke Bijoy Jain, for whom the house is a place to smile and be loved: “The house is a place for people to many people who love each other. Your home is where your heart is”. Most curious, an anecdote told by Daniel Libeskind: “The first thing that project in a home is the table”, while the furniture in my house consists primarily of articles imported by travel”. For this edition of the Salone del Mobile strengthens its synergistic relationship with the city of Milan and, in collaboration with the Department of Fashion and Design, promotes and organizes a host project with the support of the schools of design in Milan. some stations will be set up, organized in collaboration with Fiera Milano, located at key points in the city (stations, airports, subways) and manned by students to support visitors with logistical information to reach the fairgrounds and to get around the city, as well as to provide suggestions on the initiatives included in the program schedule of events in Milan prepared by the Department of Fashion and Design. from this experience, the schools involved in the Project (IED, Domus Academy and NABA Politecnico di Milano - School of Design), will also address a teaching job analysis and verification of user requirements of the Fair and will be measured on the planning of possible services for the year 2015. This year, all the stations that will be set by the host Living in cities and airports have been designed by architect Piero Lissoni. It is therefore an issue looming full of news and initiatives that demonstrate how the Salone del Mobile is a moment more and more integral to the city of Milan, a unique city where creativity grows to 360 degrees in design, fashion, culture, to project itself on the international markets.

Ravaioli Legnami manufactures and offers high quality wood solutions. Specialised in decking, the company provides a complete production, assistance and distribution service related to materials for floors, decks and exterior wood cladding. A leading manufacturer of solid wood profiles of any type and essence, it offers a wide range of standard and customized finishes, based on the customer’s needs. Ravaioli brand products are the result of a daily quest for sustainability in the procurement and production processes, which are highly efficient with a low environmental impact. The company uses raw materials from certified forests: in addition to FSC certified products and derivatives from renewable natural resources, it also offers innovative and efficient solutions for saving energy. The "heart" of the Ravaioli system can be found in the company’s headquarters in Villanova di Bagnacavallo: with 5.600mq of warehouse space, continuously stocked with wood, an automated first-cut processing department operates along with a moulding department with 6 production lines designed to offer maximum flexibility and a technologically advanced cutting centre. The company’s specialized staff oversees the various production phases to ensure the highest quality manufacturing standards. Thanks to

Ravaioli’s advanced automation and technical structure, the customer can find customized solutions through the company’s design and product industrialisation services. Through the efficient pre-and post-sales service, they can obtain samples, comprehensive estimates and timely assistance. In addition to the company’s historic headquarters, two new stores have opened up in Rimini and Bologna. A sales network that covers the entire national territory and various areas abroad. The company was founded in 1976 by Urbano Ravaioli in Villanova di Bagnacavallo. In 1985, when the company’s current president, Elio Bagnari, took the helm, Ravaioli Legnami was a small artisan workshop in the heart of Romagna, with just one collection of wooden profiles, housed in a small workshop with five employees. Over the years, the industrialisation processes in the production facility were continuously updated and improved, with the gradual addition of high precision machinery and an increased storage capacity. During this time Ravaioli became specialised in manufacturing a wide range of wood profiles, establishing itself on the market as one of the most competitive companies in the industry. Ravaioli expanded its roots in the region with the creation of 2 branches: the first, inaugurated

in 1996, in Villanova di Castenaso (Bologna) and the second in Rimini in 2000. The birth of two new facilities allowed the company to open a specialised picture frame assembly department in Villanova di Castenaso. But its growth did not end here. In 2002 Ravaioli made a strategic move: diversifying its production by focusing on outdoor decking. The company began importing raw planks of exotic wood from Asia, Africa and South America, using the machines customarily used for profiles to process exotic wood for decking. A move that gave life to the naturally elegant and durable outdoor decking with the Ravaioli trademark. The introduction of this new line would prove to be a wise and visionary decision: from 2005 to 2011 decking sales grew considerably, to eventually account for almost 60% of total sales. With a stronger brand, the company participated at Made Expo trade show in 2008 in Milan. From this international event, Ravaioli laid the foundation to create its own sales network in Italy and abroad. In 2010 the Ravaioli team explored the possibility of using planks in different essences for the exterior finishes of buildings as well. This evolution from the floor to the walls led to a joint venture between Ravaioli Legnami and Alutek Sistemi, a company specialised in ventilated facades. This collaboration resulted in the creation of Woodwrap: a unique system of ventilated wood facades, launched at the Made Expo 2011 trade show in Milan. In 2011 Ravaioli Legnami purchased Marittima, a competitor specialised for many years in the field of decking. This acquisition increased its technical know-how, with new human resources, and more generally, made Ravaioli more successful. In fact, the company uses high precision CNC robotic machines for the production of pre-assembled tiles required for building large sections of decking and urban furnishings such as walkways, docks and piers. Ravaioli combines rapid production and precise construction with reduced installation costs. Ravaioli offers a complete technical service based on the client’s specific project, in addition to wood engineering solutions. Today, with more than 30 years of experience, the company’s growth figures are on the rise. It offers a complete array of wood solu-

tions, made in high-tech warehouses extending over an area of about 10 thousand square meters. The company relies on fifty employees operating in 3 company branches and a sales network located throughout the national territory. Ravaioli is continuously expanding beyond national borders, already registering favourable results with loyal customers in Northern and Eastern Europe and the Mediterranean Basin, thanks to a dedicated work team and advertising campaigns in major international trade publications. The company is currently investing in internationalisation strategies to enter new foreign markets. Ravaioli Legnami carefully follows every phase of the production process: from the selection of raw materials to the processing and the systematic control over the final quality of the product. The company imports wood directly and carefully selects the essences with the aim of protecting natural resources and the ecosystem. The last realization is about the Housing estate I Diamanti, near the inner city of Lugo, a small city in the north-east of Italy, in a private housing estate that has been projected by Lelli & Associati, a design studio that works in the near city of Faenza. Lelli & Associati has used the best and innovative technologies, not only from the constructive point of view, but also from the environmental one; and has chosen Ravaioli Legnami among the best decking companies, in order to realize the outdoor terraces. The new housing estate I Diamanti is a real flagship for the city, and it is a result of a new urban architecture that doesn’t damage the territory, otherwise it values it, thanks to the adoption of elegant, natural and durable material, that are wisely mixed together. The great esthetical value given by the wooden terraces is underlined by the balconies entirely made of glass, that enlighten the flooring and create a sense of widespread warmth, that extend and enlarge the visual sense and bring back the terrace to its original aim: be a place of relax and laziness. The terraces of the compound are made of Ravaioli’s Teak deck boards, of size 19x90 and 19x120, and they overlook the city and the neighborhoods. The flooring has been pre-oiled in order to make even more warm and beautiful the color of Teak and has been fixed with visible screws on an exotic wood substructure in order to guarantee the maximum durability and resistance by the time. The contribution given by Ravaioli Legnami to this project, that has a great architectural value and integrate itself in a particular urban context, is entirely referable to the Ravaioli Decking Building® formula, that express the vocation and the consolidated experience in the realization of wooden outdoor projects. This vocation and experience is based on the continue research and selection of the best materials, on high quality standards of product and services, on qualified staff and on the best architectural creativity, never forgetting the sustainability. Not surprisingly, Ravaioli obtained the FSC Chain of Custody certification from the Forest Stewardship Council® and has also received the EUR 1 "Status of Authorized Exporter" (IT/003/RA/12) certification from the Customs Agency.

46 47 DE PADOVA

For over half a century, De Padova is a reference point in the panorama of Italian and international design. Maddalena De Padova begins in 1956, with her husband Fernando, its business by importing Scandinavian furniture and objects. In 1958 he founded the factory I.C.F. De Padova in Italy that will produce, under license, the American collection of Herman Miller office furniture designed by Charles Eames, George Nelson and Alexander Girard. In 1965 was inaugurated the largest showroom in Corso Venezia 14, current sales point. Over the eighties, the company collaborates with major designers such as Achille Castiglioni, Dieter Rams, Vico Magistretti, which are promoted in the following years new designers including Marco Zanuso Jr., Denis Santachiara, Thomas Sandell, Studio Cerri & Associati Patricia Urquiola, Xavier Lust, Petra Runge. Two major events have recently marked the stages of the company's history: in 2006 De Padova celebrates 50 years in business with a book and an exhibition that will trace the history , and in 2007 promoted in partnership with Designboom.com, an international design competition named in memory of Vico Magistretti. In recent years, new collaborations confirm the research by De Padova product development. The company name is to design internationally renowned designers and the collection grows with increasing emphasis on products for business use. The De Padova lookbook is a summary of the corporate philosophy: a collection in which the products are consistent expression of elegance and a world to share where a refined taste turned to an increasingly international audience is interwoven with historical and cultural references. The Contract activity by De Padova is based on a specific know-how acquired over many years of building activity in close contact with clients and professionals both in Italy and in major inter-

national markets. The starting point of any project is the identification of customer needs in terms of functional, technical, design and cost. De Padova, thanks to its resources, is able to meet these needs by offering a wide range of services in the design phase and providing products, both standard and custom made is of high quality, in compliance with both national and international topics more and more topical in the Contract sector: the company's products in Milan were designed to meet the needs of offices, public areas, hotels, outdoor and retail stores. The Contract activity is also an opportunity for De Padova through two paths: the investment of new products and expansion into foreign markets. The company, historically trade, tip it to take on more and more industrial character. The reorganization, which began three years ago, aims to give new impetus to the brand. De Padova is investing to restore relations in Europe (especially in Germany, France, Spain, the United Kingdom and Scandinavian countries), the U.S. (New York, Miami, Chicago and Los Angeles) and South America (Brazil and Panama). Last year also opened its first flagship franchise in Istanbul, designed by Urquiola. While the negotiations are at an advanced stage for some projects in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, especially related to the contract world. The latest contract achievements are for the Hotel Das Stue Berlin (interior design by Patricia Urquiola), the Freccia Club Trenitalia, the Glock Horse in Austria (project by Jana Revedin) and the Restaurant Piren in Stockholm.

MAZZOLI, CONTRACT IN THE FRONT ROW

From furnishing to renovation of theatres and living rooms worldwide, Mazzoli is a story of entrepreneurial intuition that resembles a novel. It all began in 1969, when the two Mazzoli brothers, Alfredo and Giuseppe, just twenty years old, decided to start producing sofas and armchairs in the basement of their house. Initially the road was uphill, tells Alfredo Mazzoli , current president of the company based in Brescia, Italy. "Organising a company out of nowhere and acquire the means and resources necessary to study how to gain the trust of the big brands was not easy, but it certainly shaped our character. The assumption that guided us in every step and every decision was the desire to manufacture quality products, without compromise, even in tough times like the present". In the 70s Mazzoli established a brand that is synonymous of reliability and warranty. However, during its development, an unfortunate event put a spoke in Mazzoli’s wheel. In particular, the elder brother Giuseppe unexpectedly passed away after a sudden illness. Even if the company had many responsibilities and commitments, it chose to go ahead and achieve the goals imagined in that basement twenty years before.

In the early 80s the production and marketing was enlarged and divided into three sections : home, hotel contract and theaters, specializing in the renovation of historic ones. The company’s growth continued up to 1999, when even more innovative roads were opened: the decision to distribute their own products, the opening of the first show room in the city of Brescia, Italy, the integration of traditional production with a new line to furnish prestigious locations. Among them, hotels and restaurants "turn-key " furnished on the French Riviera, Grande and Sociale theaters in Brescia, the auditorium of the Faculty of Medicine in the same city, the Carignano theater in Turin and the theater of Rovato. In addition, Mazzoli’s growth is accompanied by the decision to move the manufacturing facility from Castel Mella to Torbole Casaglia, where a dozen employees work in a structure of 5 square

Moreover, a 1,500 square meter showroom was also established. At the same time, Mazzoli opened two showrooms on the French Riviera, in Cannes and Nice, where the Brescia-based company exports its "savoir faire". And what about the future? "In the future, we will focus inevitably on foreign markets and on the contract sector, but we would also like to keep investing in our country. Nowadays Made in Italy is appreciated all over the world, but surprisingly it is not so much appreciated in our own country. In 2014 we will focus on passing the culture of craftsmanship to future generations. This culture has always distinguished us as a company and as a country". It is no surprise that for more than 40 years Mazzoli has been responsible for contract furniture, relying on

a rich collection of sofas, armchairs, curtains, mattress supports, textile works. To turn ideas into reality, the company has built up a team of architects , designers and technicians who are able to develop specific products and solutions, not only in the field of upholstery textiles, but also for every part of the furnishing process. All Mazzoli products are Class 1 or 1 IM.

EXPERIENCE THE DIFFERENCE

54 55 EGGER

“Experience the difference” – with this challenge, Egger presented the 2014 Zoom innovations for the first time at EuroShop. The successful distributor collection has been expanded by twenty decors in seven striking textures. Six of the surface textures were newly developed. Based on highly modern technologies, the innovations with surface textures that can be felt, seen and experienced represent a whole new generation of products and promise maximum expressiveness for the user. The 2014 Zoom innovations are far more than just a complement to the existing collection with 270 decors to date. In fact they are truly evolutionary as Hubert Höglauer, Head of Marketing Egger Group, explains: “The Zoom innovations are accompanied by a whole new generation of surfaces that combine the best of two worlds. The special depth of the surface texture results in an entirely new product experience that is

both visual and tactile. This is the next generation of melamine faced boards in the perfection of appearance.” Design and performance The new developments follow the further development of technologies – for example the ability to press synchronised pore surfaces on both sides – and current design trends. Verena Michels, Design and Decor Management Egger Group: “The innovations complement the Zoom Collection with material and decor characteristics that can be experienced. For example, we are picking up on the general trend in favour of authentic and striking types of wood and wood reproductions with the new decor series Gladstone Oak or with Jackson Pine. We are meeting the uni colour trend for furniture with reddishwarm grey with a matt look and a warm feel. With the decor series Tortona and the Feelwood Elegance synchronised pore surface, with the

Painted Wood texture on uni colours as well as the discreet wood reproduction Orleans Oak, we are responding to the sustained, popular trend of elegant naturalness.” With the 2014 Zoom innovations fitters, cabinetmakers and shop fitters are provided with a source of inspiration and great design flexibility. Customer requirements can be met with individual designs. With the product characteristics of melamine faced boards (such as scratch resistance, colour fidelity for the entire lifespan of furniture, and easy cleaning), they offer the highest quality with a perfect natural look and feel. Synchronised pore with character - The new synchronised pore surfaces on both sides with the name “Feelwood” represent a previously unachieved perfection in the interplay of the decor and surface. Each of the three synchronised pores among the Zoom innovations unfolds its own unique character. Feelwood Elegance ST27 features a timeless-modern character and fills the room with a light and elegant naturalness. The elegance and synchronicity of the texture emphasises the effect of the Tortona decor. In finely structured furniture and clear lines, the perfect authenticity of the material unfolds its full effect. Feelwood Nature ST28 on the other hand makes one feel astoni-

shingly close to nature. Knots, planks and the impression of solid wood give a room an authentic and original feel. The texture of its matt wood pore is synchronised with the printing image of Gladstone Oak and emphasises the sandblasted character of the oak decor. Finally, Feelwood Ambiance ST29 combines an air of grandeur with naturalness. With its matt-gloss effects, the synchronised pore emphasises the course of the large florets in the decor image, also creating a tactile effect. With large cathedrals it is ideal for large applications to create a tasteful, sophisticated feel. Expressive textures - The four additional surfaces in the 2014 Zoom innovations transform powerful wood and material reproductions into a tactile experience, giving furnishings an individual character. Painted Wood ST26 puts a fresh coat of paint on the naturalness of wood, bringing nature and design together. This surface is based on pine wood with an opaque coating as the model. It perfectly unfolds its effect on uni colours such as Stone Grey and Premium White. The interplay of linear and lively sections gives the surface a natural appearance. Brushed Wood ST36 on the other hand follows the trend in favour of strongly brushed surfaces for solid wood.

Here the surface combines the raw with a timeless elegance and exclusive touch. The irregular and very deep texture, combined with a matt appearance, creates an incredibly natural, authentic and premium finish. Ceramic ST87 in turn stands for the new materiality of rusty metal or ceramics. On the decor of the same name, the texture creates an entirely new impression. The pronounced matt-gloss effects simulate the surface and feel of a ceramic plate which also features a visual and haptic depth. Perfect Matt ST9 establishes a pleasant atmosphere that invites cosy moments. The matt surface with a very low gloss level comes to bear extremely well on warm, trendy uni colours such as Cashmere, Vino and Truffle. Thanks to low reflection, the colours appear particularly natural. Inspiring campaign - The introductory campaign for the 2014 Zoom innovations counts on emotions. To this end, our video clip (which you can watch at www.egger.com/zoom-video), the brochure with novelties, as well as the EuroShop trade fair booth use a white landscape of cubes, reveals Heike Kiesling, Head of Marketing Furniture and Interior Design, the Egger Group. "At first, these cubes create a neutral surface. The heights and depths of the cubic objects mirror the heights and depths of structures. In addition, large cubes embody the decorums of the respective character worlds. These intentionally reduced impressions and the avoidance of concrete applications have the purpose of leaving a lot of room for inspiration, and allowing designers to entirely submerge themselves in the character worlds of the Zoom novelties." The message for architects, planners, designers, and handlers is: "Experience the difference." And this difference can be experienced both optically and haptically in the decorum novelties, as well as through the Zoom services. Full service offering - For designers, the Zoom Collection not only means product quality and decor

expertise – it means a comprehensive service package. All innovations are embedded in the decor and material combination system of the Zoom Collection. The decors are coordinated from the coreboards to the edging and available worldwide over the long term since the Zoom Collection runs until 2016 True to the Zoom motto “The Everyday Resource”, Egger is available to its customers daily around the clock with its contact persons in field service, the Zoom Hotline, the Egger samples shop and the comprehensive offering of online information. With the Virtual Design Studio (VDS PROFI) planners can easily visualise their ideas for more success in their sales consultations with customers. With the new VDS app for iOS and Android, the decor catalogue and room library are available anytime and anywhere, supporting customer service in a class of its own. Comprehensive information on the products and services is available online under www.egger.com/zoom". Compact, lightweight, with lighting and good acoustics - Egger is presenting a wealth of solutions for shop fitting and exhibition stands. Highly durable compact laminate with a design-oriented white core, acoustically effective elements with custom perforations, EUROLIGHT lightweight building boards that support the integration of electronics and lighting thanks to their sandwich structure – the product range of the wood-based material manufacturer EGGER is ideal for equipping premium retail stores and building high-quality exhibition stands. Here the focus is on design and functionality in equal measure. All coreboards are available in the decor match system of the ZOOM Collection. It is design-oriented, versatile in application and also very durable. It is suitable for applications subject to high demands and even for use in moisture-prone areas. We are talking about compact laminate, an ideal material provided by EGGER to architects and planners for high-end furniture and discerning designs. The board is comprised of decorative papers coated with melamine and several core layers impregnated with phenolic resin. In addition to black, design-oriented white is now also available as a core colour. On the decor side, all decors from the ZOOM Collection can be offered. The offering is complemented by a thickness range of 3 to 13 mm (0.12” to 0.51”) and a wide variety of texture options. This new product is therefore also part of the EGGER decor and texture combinations,

enabling the designer to offer a uniform design and surface concept with the use of many different coreboards. Versatile compact laminate - Notwithstanding its low thickness, compact laminate is sturdy and selfsupporting. The homogenous board material permits uncomplicated processing and convinces with its edge finish and design. Thanks to its longevity and durability, the boards are suitable for interior applications with high loads. With their robustness, they support shop and showroom design as well as the interior design of offices and kitchens. Here the high strength of the material permits elegant work surfaces or tables with thin dimensions. Compact laminate is also used in moisture-prone areas. With convincing impact resistance and bending strength combined with excellent resistance to moisture, compact laminate is also used for wall panelling and partition walls in public areas. EGGER also offers compact laminate in a low flammability quality upon request. Lightweight shop fitting solutions - The Eurolight lightweight building board stands for a variety of individual design possibilities, especially for shop fitting and exhibition stands. Its composition of thin chipboard surface layers and a kraft paper honeycomb core in the centre not only makes it up to 60% lighter than conventional boards, but also supports the concealed integration of electronic components. Thanks to the sandwich structure of the boards, the days of exposed cables are numbered. By installing all wiring in the honeycomb core, the integration of electronic components in furniture is made invisible. Eurolight boards therefore offer a straightforward and attractive solution for lighting systems, outlets, charging stations, speakers and even iPod docking stations. Especially for shop fitting the faster speed of installation and the degree of prefabrication are also crucial in terms of the commitment to lightweight building. Acoustics meet lighting and design - The acoustically effective solutions demonstrated by Egger in Düsseldorf using images with custom perforations, lighted ceiling panels and the acoustic box are intended for sound optimisation and simultaneously as design elements. In cooperation with its partner akustik+, Egger is the only manufacturer to offer acoustically effective boards with a perforation grid of ?4/4/1.5 mm (?0.16”/0.16”/0.06”). Customers can place orders with any motif of their choice, which is then transferred to the acoustically effective elements using precisely

positioned bore holes and changing hole diameters. These acoustically effective products from Egger are used in wall panelling or partition walls with graphical motifs, and in ceiling applications and ceiling systems which can also be equipped with the LED auriLUX lighting system. Thanks to the interior high-power LEDs, these elements provide brilliant and glare-free light with the ability to regulate the colour temperature. Recyclable components, energy-efficient lighting technology, renewable raw materials and quicksilverfree illuminants make the system particularly sustainable and environmentally friendly. Silent, warm, ecological - Egger rounds out its wide range of products with its pleasantly silent and warm cork+ flooring. The revised Egger cork+ flooring collection combines the advantages of cork as a natural product with the functionality of laminate flooring. With cork+ technology, the decor and surface are applied to the special cork material using a direct printing process. This results in floor boards with trendy woodgrain decors and a perfectly fitting designer surface, visually appearing like laminate flooring. The difference is revealed in the feel and in acoustics: Impact and ambient sound are optimised, the flooring feels warm and soft. Egger places great trust in sustainable and functional cork+ flooring. This is why the product has been continuously revised, new decors developed and the product characteristics improved. The flooring in the new collection has been certified according to the prEN 16511 standard in usage Class 31, so that it can also be used for commercial applications such as hotel rooms. URBAN MATTER: SOUL AND STYLE WITH MATERIAL-LIKE EFFECT WITH STRONG VISUAL IMPACT The world of ICA Group is continually evolving, with an unerring focus on the latest design trends and on the requirements flagged up by designers and architects. For this reason, the R&D laboratory has dedicated its energies to the development of wood coatings with a distinctly metropolitan flavor. The Urban Matter range – composed of high-impact, material-like effects – embodies a style that's at once contemporary, refined, realistic and "imperfect" (due to the deliberate unevenness of the coated surface). It's a style that's very much inspired by the everyday. Using this range, it is possible to produce surfaces with Cement, Corten and Steel effects, retaining the rough appearance of the material being simulated while also offering the warmth to the touch that only wood can provide. The Urban Matter range can be deployed for a plethora of creative uses, giving the imagination free rein, with the potential to come up with an infinite variety of everchanging and unique effects. Let’s see them in detail. Cement effect: An industrial look and “powdery” colors characterize the cement-effect finish. The range encompasses three gray tones, which are the fruit of ICA Group's research into the latest trends in contemporary interior design. The effect is produced through a coating cycle (on MDF panels or melamine paper) that combines the use of the water-based base coat, mixed using a spatula, with the special effect Vellumatt, in three different shades. Spray and spatula application, an effect that – in tactile and aesthetic terms - is comparable to cement, Unique effects can be achieved

by mixing the water-based base coat with a spatula, very smooth to the touch, good chemical/physical resistance. Corten effect: this effect embodies a contemporary style that is even more "lived-in", with an uneven surface characterized by light and dark nuances that reproduce the deep coloration of natural Corten steel. The effect is produced through a coating cycle, on MDF panels or melamine paper, that combines the matt black base coat with water-based aging agents, flower yellow and oxide red, with the color movement being generated by means of a jet of compressed air on the coated surface. Spray application, an effect that - in tactile and aesthetic terms - is comparable to Corten steel, creation of unique effects by adjusting the following variables: compressed-air jet, color tone of the polyurethane matt base and of the aging agents. Excellent resistance to light, the warmth of wood and the stability of the effect over time, with respect to Corten steel. Steel effect: metallic, oxidized, colored: industrial styling with an elegant, understated character. The range offers two different interpretations of natural steel: “foil” with lighter, brighter tones, and “oxidized” with warmer tones and a more "lived-in" appearance, available in eight different nuances selected on the basis of an analysis of current trends in the world of design. The effect is produced through a coating cycle, on MDF panels or melamine paper, that combines the use of gloss lacquer with the steel-effect metallic coating. The

URBAN MATTER DI ICA GROUP: ANIMA URBANA, STILE CONTEMPORANEO, GRANDE IMPATTO SCENICO light scratches provide the minute detail that allows the surface to simulate steel even more effectively and, accentuated by the reflection of the light, generate undertones and a sense of movement. Spray application, aesthetic effect similar to the look of steel, Offers the warmth that only wood can provide. Creation of unique effects by adjusting the following variables: color tone of the gloss polyurethane base, opacity, coloration (if applicable) of the steel-effect coating and of the final top coat. Suitable for application to three-dimensional objects, good chemical/physical resistance, excellent resistance to light. ICA Group, based in the central-Italian city of Civitanova Marche (in the province of Macerata) is a leading European name in the manufacture and marketing of special coatings for wood. In 2012, through its 3 manufacturing plants - two of which are located in Civitanova Marche, with the third being situated in Romano D’Ezzelino (in the Veneto region) - ICA Group posted a turnover of euro103.9 million, 42% of which was generated through export markets. ICA Group has a 16% share of the Italian market and employs a workforce of 380. Its products stand out for their quality, high level of innovation and deep-rooted commitment to the reduction of environmental impact. For the three-year period 2013-2015, the company earmarked investments of ? 9.5 million for growth, research and product innovation. Currently, 42 professional researchers are based in the central laboratory in Civitanova Marche, with another 14 based in the R&D Center in Romano D’Ezzelino, all of whom work on the development of new, highly eco-compatible products that are geared towards enriching and prolonging the lifespan of the treated wood. In 1995, the European Union awarded the LIFE mark to ICA's range of bicomponent water-based coatings, thereby providing official recognition of the company's “durable and sustainable development”. ICA's bicomponent coatings were the only products to be given the award in the coatings sector.

Eccoli in dettaglio.

MARGRAF MARBLE

AND ISLAMIC ARCHITECTURE

Margraf enters new markets in Central Asia with a prime contract for the supply of precious marble destined to the restoration of Juma Mosque in Shamakhi, Azerbaijan. This challenging project was started by President Ilham Aliyev in 2009 and executed by Architect Elvin Najafov in close collaboration with Margraf's technical staff. Works were completed at the end of 2013. The building is a fabulous example of Islamic Architecture and Margraf's marble floors awake memories of the ancient Muslim décors and geometrical designs; in particular, the ornament underneath the central cupola representing a flower with twelve petals made in Azul Bahia, is used all around the wall edges of the adjacent halls as in a Greek key border. In one of the most sacred places in the country, the rose window underneath the cupola plays a protagonist role: this geometrical design on a Bianco Laser floor is encompassed by a floral crown made with extremely valuable materials as Azul Macaubas, Rosso Francia, Giallo Siena, Giallo d'Oriente, Rosa Portogallo, Monaco Light, Onice Verde and Bianco Sivec. Juma Mosque, also known as “Friday Mosque” to commemorate the day dedicated to Allah, was built in 743-744 a. C. It is located 106 km away from Baku capital city that is considered a key city along the famous

I MARMI MARGRAF NELL’ARCHITETTURA ISLAMICA “silk road.” Over the years, the mosque has undergone numerous reconstructions after many earthquakes and fights battled to protect this strategic area. The last destruction dates back to 1918 when the armed forces of the Armenian Party “Dashnaktsutiun” started a devastating fire that razed the whole city to the ground. The mosque, a unique construction for itself, stands out from the other monumental buildings in Azerbaijan for its shape and size. The central cupola and various internal areas of the main hall resemble the Derbent Mosque, which is the main one in the country. Its rectangular floor plan is divided into three, square chambers communicating with each other through large wall openings. The most significant architectural interventions were carried out by Architect Josef Plosko in the early 1900's. With his project, the Architect created three monumental chambers of the same size internally to the mosque, thus adding some typical oriental traits to the traditional basics of Islamic architecture. For over a century, Margraf has been siding with international architects in their master works in Italy and abroad, thus becoming an icon of the excellence of the “Made in Italy” all over the world. Valuable marble entering the halls of international architecture and bound to leave a permanent mark. ABOUT MARGRAF Margraf's story (former Industria Marmi Vicentini) started in Chiampo (province of Vicenza) in 1906. Since its early start, the company devoted to accurate research work and development of new technologies, working in tight collaboration with famous international architects. Today, after more than a century, Margraf is a leading, world stakeholder in this field. Among many other pluses, Margraf owes its worldwide established reputation to its skilful extraction of marble and the ability to transform it into finished, polished slabs or tiny tiles and to provide a huge array of precious materials and excellent products for building construction and architecture (from the cladding of inner and external walls, to interior design itempractices, as well as the exploitation of renewable resources. Margraf is a perfect merging of past and present forming a first-class enterprise.

THE SOLUTION FOR ANY HANGING UNITS divisionecontract frames

74 75 CAMAR

C a m a r, founded in 1960 and established strategically in the middle of the Brianza district of furniture and of furnishing, is currently the chieftain in the design and in the production of solutions for the levelling for every type of furniture: kit-

chens, living room furniture, bedrooms and baths. The Camar philosophy expresses itself in a constant research and in a technology innovation, which can take the indications and the new market trends and it elaborates and patents new products with elevate functional features of design. Quality and security, an union which has always been synonymous of Camar products all over the world. As market leader in the field of hanging brackets, Camar has recently enlarged its range with a number of products expressly conceived for hanging base units. Seems magic, but is topnotch technology. As a matter of fact, the forces which stress base units are quite different from those working on wall units, so Camar has invested in the solutions to these specific problems, and achieved the revolutionary 807 series of hanging brackets. Made entirely in metal, with a very limited thickness, adjustable in height and depth, 807 are very easy to fit, as they only require simple drillings in the side panel of the cabinet and support very heavy loads with a guarantee of safety. All 807 come with an anti-drop system, which is activated automatically when the bracket is hooked into the wall plate and prevents the cabinet from accidentally falling from the wall, by resisting forces exerted from any direction.
