Welcome Welcome to York for the Finale Meeting of our 2026 season – goodness what a fabulous season of racing action we have seen so far! Today sees another fascinating seven-race card with a total prize fund in excess of £330,000, including two races worth a six-figure sum. In addition, we have a Countryside market open to all Standside racegoers located on the ground floor of the Ebor Stand with lots of ideas for Christmas (see page 7). Thank you so much for your support today and I hope you have a thoroughly enjoyable and successful day. It has been a tremendous year on the track so far, with a star-studded Sky Bet Ebor Festival showcasing horses like Item, Kalpana, Notable Speech, Maltese Cross and Sun Goddess who all have big autumn targets at home and abroad. The blistering pace of Bacio in our fastest race of the year will be long remembered, as will the dash of his jockey to ride in California the next day. Our second race at 2.05pm is a valuable and important final of a conditions series supported by the British European Breeders’ Fund for juvenile colts and geldings over seven furlongs. A suitably strong field includes all of Nakila Sun, Royal Regency and Scienza amongst the runners today for trainer Andrew Balding, as Team Kingsclere look to build on their lead in the Blue Frog Bedding Top Trainer Championship. Defending Champion, William Haggas, is just two behind and has his own strong hand today. The leading yard will win a lorry of Blue Frog bedding (you can see it in the Clocktower Enclosure), £2,500 and a funded Christmas Party. The feature three-year-old staying handicap worth £100,000 is backed by William Hill who have been rewarded with a suitably wide-open betting contest, including Gaspaco for Somerville Lodge. Interestingly all ten are seeking a first victory on the Knavesmire. The same cannot be said of Copper Knight, who runs in the race that carries his name at 4.25pm. As it says, he is the winningmost horse on the Knavesmire in the modern era. Since the Denham family first raced their favourite here, he has won on 7 occasions from 37 previous starts. Trained by Tim Easterby, that first win was on his Knavesmire debut back in May 2017. Connections have said this will be his final race in a career of 128 races with 20 wins to date -we wish him a Happy Retirement. The next two days will also see the conclusion of the season long contests to be top jockey and trainer at York. In the Living North-sponsored jockeys’ race William Buick currently leads the way with 8 winners, just the one clear of Oisin Murphy. As the main protagonists are engaged elsewhere, the door is ajar for a barnstorming finish from someone! We have some top class racing today, made possible by both your support and the backing of our partners and sponsors William Hill, Parsonage Country House Hotel, the connections of Copper Knight, European Breeders’ Fund, Blue Frog and PJ Staffing (the team who keep the racecourse so tidy). A particular welcome to the members of the Racing TV Club who join us for some live action today; if you want to follow the channel uninterrupted then the big screen above the Roberto Guinness Bar is your destination. Thank you again for your support today and throughout this year, I hope you thoroughly enjoyed all you have seen. If you are not with us tomorrow, winter well and I hope you can return for our new season on Wednesday 12th May 2027, take advantage of a price freeze when the tickets go on sale online, tomorrow afternoon.

WHAT’S NEW
AT YORK THIS SEASON?
KNAVESMIRE BOXES REFURBISHED With thanks to race sponsors, Design Tonic from Leeds, the fourth floor has a bright new look with new carpets, suspended ceilings, improved lighting, bespoke joinery and huge TVS! To find out more hospitality@yorkracecourse.co.uk
WINNERS’ PODIUM
It now matches the Champagne Lawns, more importantly it offers more space for large groups of successful Owners. Check out the digital screen in the Douglas Fir backboard. With thanks to Lindum York & The Football Company.
NEW HEDGE As part of Green Knavesmire 300 we planted two miles of hedge around the eastern boundary including the six & seven furlong starts to improve landscaping and support wildlife. As they grow the blend of hawthorn, hornbeam, hazel, prunus and field maple plants will become more obvious.
16
BANDSTAND The Yorkshire brass & jazz bands can now stay dry, courtesy of this smart base delivered by Duncombe Sawmill from Helmsley.
WI-FI UPGRADE Across the racecourse, York based company Communicate Technology helped us replace 40 Access Points (think the shower heads that dispense the coverage) and added plenty of new ones. Often moving just twenty yards will improve your signal.
ENTRY FROM CAR PARK D Lighter & brighter the entry now celebrates our history as well as some memorable moments.
SELF SERVE BAR On the first floor of the Ebor Stand, a convenient way to get a pint, perhaps on the way to the Ebor Lawn. The brands it serves will vary by day, expect to see Birra Moretti, Dark Fruits Cider and Guinness over the year.

Official BHA Ratings The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part usually in three races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating. RaceiQ Par Times A new statistics based predictor, it is the expected win time for a specific race based on the track, distance, going, race class and conditions. Based on the going at time of printing the Thursday before racing at 16:00, being: GOOD, GOOD TO SOFT (IN PLACES) For further Race iQ insights, visit racingtv.com/results and click the RaceiQ icon at the top right. Non-runner Ground - The Trainer states the ground is not suitable for this horse, the official going has changed since the time of declaration. Vet - The Trainer states the horse is subject to a Veterinary Certificate. Self Certificate - The trainer has advised the authorities that the horse is not able to race today.

A RACECOURSE FOR ALL
We want the racecourse to offer both a welcome and an enjoyable evening to all our racegoers and in delivering that we recognise that some may need additional assistance from us. We are also pleased to recognise the sunflower lanyard scheme.
The first thing to say, please just ask for help, if the team don’t have an instant answer, then they know someone who will. The team in the Racecourse Reception (behind the Ebor Stand) act as the link to the rest of the team, as needed. FAQS Is there accessible and blue badge parking? Yes, I hope you found it. All our car parks have designated spaces near their front row. Can I get help with getting to/from the car park, taxi rank or shuttle buses? Yes, there is a complimentary buggy service to all these points, ask a member of the team and they will radio to arrange your collection. Thank you for your patience as the buggies have a maximum of six passengers, and only one is wheelchair accessible and it’s a big site. Can I bring a wheelchair? Yes, if you need to; but we also offer complimentary hire, again from Racecourse Reception. As we hope you’ll appreciate, there are only so many wheelchairs on site, if you need to reserve in advance then call 01904 620911. Considerately piloted mobility scooters are permitted. Can I bring somebody to help? Yes, we appreciate that will come in various forms, we hope our “companion comes free” scheme is a help, before your next visit check it out online at www.yorkracecourse.co.uk or just ask the team today. We are now registered with the Access Card (nimbus) scheme which helps with advance booking. Are there wheelchair viewing platforms? Yes, in all stand side area and Stands - easiest thing to do is to ask our Stewards, though a map is available from Racecourse Reception. Please use these in the spirit intended, with carers being prepared to step aside to allow space for those who need the view the most. What about toilets and are they part of the Radar scheme? Yes they are, all the permanent toilet blocks have a accessible capability, please ask for directions, the team nearby have keys, or check that map from you know where. Are their wheelchair height food and drink counters? Yes there are but not as many as we’d like, please ask a member of the team to assist you. Wheelchair height betting? Yes, there are some Tote counters set at a reduced height though a better plan might be to use the courier service that operates in areas such as the main Champagne Lawns; the Tote team themselves are always willing to help. Can I bring my assistance dog? Of course, as the tribute to Grady demonstrates, registered assistance dogs are most welcome. There was one more thing? Please ask, we are keen to help wherever we can, appreciating our racegoers may face a range of challenges.

Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai is delighted to have supported two Group 2 features - the Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai Middleton Fillies’ Stakes and the Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai Dante Stakes at the Dante Festival. We are enormously proud of our longstanding partnership with York Racecourse whose commitment to customer care at all levels is a shining example. I congratulate racecourse Chairman, Bridget Guerin, and her Committee on continuing to deliver racing of the highest quality on the Knavesmire through innovative race programming and ever increasing investment in facilities and prize money. The Dante Festival marked the first of our three scheduled visits to York this season. We enjoyed returning for the second edition of Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai Summer Saturday at the end of June which is rapidly becoming one of the social highlights of the season. Finally, we witnessed another exciting renewal of the Group 2 Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai Gimcrack Stakes during the Ebor Festival. I hope they and you enjoy a pleasant and successful day.

1st Race 1.30 The William Hill Gold Weekend Autumn Mile Stakes
1m Handicap 76-95 £30,000 4+ Inside Rail
About One Mile (1,600 metres)
See page 76 for conditions of this race.
RACE DESCRIPTION Our opener is a handicap, such races are designed for close competition so, the handicapper, is the independent assessor who rates horses on past performance seeking to get them crossing the line together, by handing out differing weights. Your vital statistics for this race are 4yo+ horses, over a mile, rated 76-95. Based on previous runs the handicapper considers Power Fizz as “the best” so he takes top weight. Need some help? Look further for the letter “C”, which shows that the horse has won at York or “D” which denotes a win over this distance; see Inspired is one to offer both aspects of form.

KNAVESMIRE TIP Karl Burke won this last year and this time he relies on Inspired, who is already a three-time winner this season. He pulled too hard before finishing 15th at Doncaster in September, but could challenge if he settles. Empire Of Light and HENLEIN are both due to go up in the handicap for future races, with the latter an unlucky neck second after failing to get a clear run at Ascot and he seems likely to make amends.

The British EBF £100,000 2yo Final (Colts & Geldings)
7f Conditions £100,000 2c&g Farside
About Seven Furlongs (1,400 metres) See page 76 for conditions of this race.
RACE DESCRIPTION
A relatively recent addition to the calendar, this valuable race is limited just to 2yo colts and geldings who are European Breeders’ Fund eligible. All the runners have finished in the top six of an extensive programme of Maiden and Novice races backed by the EBF. The baseline is a 9st weight though only Nakila Sun actually goes to post with that burden. The weights of the rest the field reflect that previous success adds weight at varying amounts depending on the grade of the race won; that for example explains the weight carried by Waasil who has 2 wins to his name. Or, to add a layer of competition (or for some complexity) a runner’s weight can be lowered (an allowance) based on having been bought comparatively cheaply at a recognised auction, so the market was deemed as an assessment of their quality and hence potential. The most expensive being categorised as Band A, the next group as Band B and so on. Band As went for above £50,000 descending in roughly £20,000 bands thereafter. Any horse in from a lower Band racing in opposition to one from a higher Band benefits from an allowance, which explains the reduced burden for Scienza (from Band B) lower again for Alberich (from Band C) and by extension Brushstroke (from Band D). And yes, both things can be true hence Capitano Josepi who is both a lower band and a previous winner!
LAST YEAR’S RACE Winner: ASTRAZAR Trainer: Ed Walker Jockey: Paul Mulrennan Age/Weight: 2-8-13 Runners: 14 SP: 9/2 Travelled more within himself this time around after fourth in the competitive Harry’s Half Million at the Ebor Festival. Overcame adversity to notch his second straight win, weaving a path through rivals to deliver when it mattered most.

KNAVESMIRE TIP Capitano Josepi did well to score on debut when repeatedly denied a clear run and hanging badly. He can only go on from there with that experience under his belt and is unlikely to be too far away. Andrew Balding has three in here with Regency Royal, an easy winner at Chester, and NAKILA SUN making the most appeal. The latter has improved with every start and got off the mark in impressive style at Windsor last time. With that in mind, he tops the shortlist.

KNAVESMIRE TIP William Haggas has trained the winner of this three times in the last six years and has a lively chance of a fourth with GASPACHO. She won her last two starts as a juvenile and returned from 10 months off with an respectable fourth over 1m2f at Leicester last month. The same mark may underestimate her upped to this trip for the first time. Easy Carlisle winner Harper Violet should not be ignored, with Glory Road another to consider.

The William Hill Epic Boosts EBF Novice Stakes (GBB Race)
6f Novice £25,000 2 Centre
Six Furlongs (1,200 metres) See page 76 for conditions of this race.
RACE DESCRIPTION A novice race so limited to 2yos, run over six furlongs. At this stage in their career there is a natural difference between the colts and fillies with the former expected to start from a higher weight however the girls have swerved today’s race. As with earlier races a win results in an additional weight, note Our Son Oscar who scored at Pontefract. All are registered with the European Breeders’ Fund. This means that their sire (father) is based and registered in Europe with the EBF, which is a scheme to encourage the best in bloodstock. All a bit much? Then go for the alternative “P” for “pin” rather than “pedigree”.
LAST YEAR’S RACE Winner: THALUNA Trainer: William Haggas Jockey: Cieren Fallon Age/Weight: 2-9-2 Runners: 8 SP: 8/11F Cieren Fallon sat just in-behind aboard the William Haggastrained filly. Improving on a positive debut at Ascot, she took a little time to fully warm to her task before getting well on top inside the final furlong, to win by a length.

KNAVESMIRE TIP Our Son Oscar built on an encouraging debut effort to score comfortably at Pontefract and is probably the main threat to SHARADD. The Dark Angel colt was extremely impressive when bolting up at Haydock on his debut and should be capable of much better for a yard who won this 12 months ago. Mehmas Star failed to kick on from a promising introduction at Carlisle, but he did face a tall task at the Curragh and this will be more to his liking.

KNAVESMIRE TIP BLACK VELVET BOY might not have the same amount of scope as a few of these, but the Quinns’ gelding has a very willing attitude and can continue his progress. After recording his first two successes at Beverley and Windsor, the son of Soldier’s Call bumped into an improver at Thirsk and was then edged out at Newmarket. He has been raised a further 3lb but, judged on recent performances, it still appears to be workable. Nursery debutants Instant Force and Noble Raider merit respect and don’t discount Harley, who could improve for the addition of first-time cheekpieces.

COPPER KNIGHT:
WINNINGMOST HORSE HERE
EYES ON OUR SIXTH RACE WHEN COPPER KNIGHT, HOPES TO RECORD WIN NUMBER EIGHT. The Denham family first ran Copper Knight at York back in 2017 when he won the first of his seven races. He had further success at York before taking his most prestigious prize at the track. The John Smith’s City Walls Stakes 2019, his first Listed success. A plaque has been erected in his honour on the pre-parade ring side of the weighing room, where it reads ‘winning most’, as he may well not be done with winning at York just yet! In July of 2023, July Copper Knight made history by registering another win on the Knavesmire. He remains a stalwart of Tim Easterby’s operation, with a record breaking seven wins. Speaking ahead of today’s run, Tom Denham said, “He’s just been an unbelievable horse to be involved with. He still loves getting up in the morning and going for a canter. I’m lucky enough to work at Tim’s and get to see him most mornings. It’s just an absolute joy to be involved with him. We don’t take anything for granted. I’m hoping to be in racing for a very long time and I’m not sure I’ll ever have one as good as him.” Four generations of his owners are planning to cheer him on; grandfather Keith and his son, Tony, then both Tom and his brother James with baby Rupert making the fourth age! Will Copper Knight continue to make history with an eighth win today on his 38th run at York? It would be a fairytale end to a career that has spanned 128 races - Happy Retirement Copper Knight.

6th Race 4.25 The Copper Knight Winningmost Horse Stakes
Five Furlongs (1,000 metres)
See page 76 for conditions of this race.
RACE DESCRIPTION Still a handicap, this time for 3yo+ horses though still over five furlongs. “Offer a chance for everyone” is a good maxim for those planning races and in this contest the upper rating of 95 means that these are still quality horses but they won’t have their spotlight stolen by a real superstar. Need some help? If you want to talk York form, then Copper Knight has it in spades being the winningmost horse here, will today mark a new record of eight victories?
LAST YEAR’S RACE Winner: DAN TUCKER Trainer: Jedd O’Keeffe Jockey: Jack Garritty Age/Weight: 3-9-3 Runners: 18 SP: 11/1 Having a much better draw than when down the field on his last effort here, Jack Garritty made full use of the advantage to win by a head. KNAVESMIRE TIP TOCA MADERA returned to winning ways in a conditions race at Beverley last month. Placed in a valuable handicap off a 1lb higher mark here in August, David O’Meara’s sprinter looks worth sticking with back in a handicap. Equity Law landed a double over the minimum trip during the summer and Tim Easterby’s charge is preferred to stablemate Go Vince Go, while Tatterstall resumed winning ways at Lingfield recently and could prove to be competitive in this grade.

About Seven Furlongs (1,400 metres) See page 76 for conditions of this race.
RACE DESCRIPTION A farewell handicap open to horses 3 years plus, over seven furlongs. What makes it a bit different is the jockeys. Connections can reduce the weight carried by their contender by balancing the past success of their chosen jockey against a weight reduction for using a pilot who is still developing. Thus, the level of the reduction depends on the past success of that apprentice. You can see this reflected in the bracketed figure after the rider’s name. See how Obelix benefits from 5lb claim by Olivia Haines, whereas First Time is partnered by Warren Fentiman who has a bigger body of successful work behind him. If you win this race you can claim bragging rights until we do it all for one last time, starting at 1.30pm tomorrow afternoon.
LAST YEAR’S RACE Winner: SKY ADVOCATE Trainer: Clive Cox Jockey: Jack Callan Age/Weight: 3-9-5 Runners: 21 SP: 15/2 Sky Advocate justified the market support, sporting a first-time visor in the hands of Jack Callan. KNAVESMIRE TIP Beaten only a neck in a tougher contest over C&D last month, QUEST FOR FUN makes plenty of appeal. Placed again subsequently at Ayr, the eight-year-old may prove to be the one to side. Magic Boy went close over 6f at Ripon last time and this longer trip is not an issue for Nigel Tinkler’s charge. He’s preferred to the recent Southwell winners Feel The Need and Mystical Storm or the remainder.
