ODDSCHECKER SOMERSET NATIONAL RACEDAY THURSDAY 15TH JANUARY 2026
OFFICI AL R ACEC ARD £3. 50
WELCOME TO
Welcome to Wincanton Racecourse Somerset National Raceday.
for
our
We have a superb afternoon of competitive racing ahead, with an impressive 85 declarations across the card. Today’s racing is kindly sponsored by OddsChecker and the family and friends of Flaked Oats, a legendary Badger Beer Trophy winner. Liam Firkin from OddsChecker will be running through today’s card at 11.40am in the parade ring, so be sure to head along and pick up some expert tips for the day. Our opening race is held in memory of Flaked Oats, the first horse to win the Badger Beer Trophy in back-to-back years, triumphing in both 1999 and 2000. A true Dorset character, Flaked Oats was proudly bred locally by E. B. Swaffield, owned by the Swaffield family, and expertly trained by Paul Nicholls, He went on to compete in numerous Nationals, including the Midland, Welsh, Scottish and Grand National. Today’s race is generously sponsored by Flaked Oats’ owner’s daughter, Susan Frost, who continues the family colours and celebrates her birthday today. Fittingly, Flaked Oats’ ashes were spread on the winning line here at Wincanton ten years ago, making this a truly special and poignant local story. We would like to thank all owners, trainers, sponsors, annual members, and general admission guests for their continued support as we begin 2026. Our next fixture takes place on Thursday 29th January, when we will once again be hosting a behind-the-scenes tour. You can sign up via our website or visit the information point beside the parade ring for further details.
