Star Ratings Explained
Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:
HHHHH Selected to win the race.
HHHHI Good chance of being placed.
HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims.
HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.
HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
Official BHA Rating
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
Form Guide
The figures in red display the horse’s previous form, with the number denoting finishing position. The number on the right shows the runners most recent result, with abbreviations used also. A layoff from racing is shown with either - or / CD - Course and distance winner; BF - Beaten favourite; F - Fell; B - Brought down; P - Pulled up; R - Refused; S - Slipped up; U - Unseated rider; R - Ran out.
The form guide is provided to help you pick which horse will carry your money in the race. Read the Timeform comment carefully and try to weigh up the horse’s previous runs against the conditions of the race.
| FACTS | FANCIES | FORM | STATS |
Race Stats are also provided above the race and provide vital information about which trainers are in-form and which horses have made the longest journey to the racecourse today. After you’ve studied the form and made your selection, make sure you get a good position down by the winning post to watch your selection come home in front.

FRESH bistro FRESH CAFE FRESH HOT ROLLS FRESH PIES FRESH PANINISOur last meeting saw Yorkshire Lady get proceedings off to a flying start, winning by five-and-a-half lengths ahead of market favourite Strong Belle. Trained by Michael and David Easterby, the six-year-old was held up towards the rear during the early stages before going third when three out Jockey Jamie Hamilton then manoeuvred her to the front when approaching the last before running on well to win comfortably. St John’s Road and Snowrocco finished third and fourth respectively.
The following race saw Eaton Collina romp to a 25-length success for trainer Kerry Lee and jockey Richard Patrick The son of Milan was never in any danger of relinquishing his lead and was well clear when two fences from the finish. William Cody finished second for trainer Pam Sly and jockey Alice Stevens, with William Of York behind in third for Rebecca Menzies and rider Ross Chapman.
It was the complete opposite finish in the third race of the day with the Nicky Martin-trained Leading Choice finding just enough to fend off the danger from To Chase A Dream by a head. It was a battle between the two in the closing stages with third-placed Rock Steady Eddie finishing 25 lengths behind the pair.
It was another enthralling contest in the Vickers.Bet Proudly Supporting British Racing Handicap Hurdle Race with War Soldier seeing off Bashers Reflection by a neck for trainer Sandy Thomson and jockey Ryan Mania. War
Soldier was three lengths behind Bashers Reflection approaching the last but managed to rally late on to cut the deficit and secure the honours in thrilling fashion. Bashers Reflection idled and drifted right during the run-in, ultimately costing him the victory.
Market favourite Carrigeen Castle certainly justified the support, cruising to a 22-length success for trainer Micky Hammond and jockey Alice Stevens. Stevens and the eight-year-old gelding went clear from four out and despite not having the most fluent jump at the following fence, there was never any danger of them relinquishing their lead Robins Field was second but never in contention.
Sine Nomine made light work of the penultimate race of the day, securing a comfortable 15 length victory for trainer Fiona Needham and jockey John Dawson The eight-year-old travelled strongly for large parts of the race and went clear when two, albeit not the most fluent jump. Dawson and Sine Nomine went clear during the run-in. Bennys King and Windsor Avenue finished second and third respectively.
Another excellent day of racing was then completed with another exciting finish. Off To Alabama, trained by John Mackie and ridden by Jamie Hamilton who was completing a double on the day, managed to find enough to prevent Mr Bramley from stealing the show.
RACE ONE
WILLSBURG benefited from stepping up in trip when getting off the mark over timber at Ffos Las at the start of the month. His jumping wasn’t particularly fluent on that occasion and it is hoped the application of cheekpieces might aid his cause in that regard. Similar comments apply to Magical King, who also boasts the same headgear for the first time, while Tommy Time is expected to be competitive following wind surgery.
WIN: WILLSBURG
RACE TWO
DANGER: Magical King
Eveque finally gained a first success on his most recent outing at Sedgefield when proving too strong for COOLMOYNE (second). However, the former would have to command plenty of respect as the winner’s improvement may well have come from stepping up to 3m3f and a 10lb pull at the weights could see Simon Waugh’s gelding reverse the form over this distance. Le Grand Vert didn’t appear to get home in the same contest and could bounce back in a first-time visor
WIN: COOLMOYNE
RACE THREE
DANGER: Eveque
WRECKLESS ERIC represents a stable which is currently in excellent form and he’s taken to build on a promising start to his career when finishing second at Newbury. I Wish You has placed on both starts to date and is entitled to improve on his latest effort as that was his debut over timber Rockola makes her first appearance over hurdles and is respected along with Speiriuil, who has hit the frame on all three outings
WIN: WRECKLESS ERIC
RACE FOUR
DANGER: I Wish You
EATON COLLINA could not have won any easier over C&D last time out and a 7lb rise for that success could prove lenient as he looks to follow up for his in-form connections. Ground conditions are in his favour once more and he should have too much for the capable Heros, as well as Will Sting, who was a creditable second at Leicester last month.
WIN: EATON COLLINA
RACE FIVE
DANGER: Will Sting
An impressive winner over C&D earlier in the season and an early faller on her most recent start at Haydock, WINDTOTHELIGHTNING could still be well treated off a mark of 132 and looks capable of regaining the winning thread. There was just under two lengths between War Soldier (first) and The Four Sixes (third) when they met over C&D earlier in the month and both are likely to be thereabouts again. North Parade and Uncle Bert are noted too
WIN: WINDTOTHELIGHTNING
RACE SIX
DANGER: The Four Sixes
Runner-up on two of his last three starts over fences, HERITIER has done well since joining new connections and it may be that a return to the smaller obstacles prompts a return to winning ways Narrowly denied at Catterick, Beaumesnil can give him the most to think about and is noted along with Sailed Away who wasn’t beaten far on his penultimate start at Huntingdon. Others to note include Brandt, Play By The Rules and Western Jill
WIN: HERITIER
DANGER: Beaumesnil

We're pleased to introduce
Wemyss Point was a talented racehorse, giving his owners, The Green Oaks Partnership, many fantastic days out with 5 wins, 6 seconds, 4 thirds and 2 fourths during his career. 3 of these wins came at his beloved Wetherby over hurdles in 201718! Weymss is owned by Beth Hutchinson and started re-training last year for his first showing season with great success and we are all very excited to see what they do together in 2024!
During her stellar racing career, Buttons garnered a huge following, and collected over £292,000 in prize money for her owner/breeders Jayne and Keith Sivils. Her first Racecourse win was at Wetherby in a Bumper in 2013, and she was a two-time winner of the Mares’ Listed Hurdle at Wetherby in 2018 & 2019.
Buttons went to live with Jennie Durrans in February 2023 and we are waiting to find out if Jumping is going to be their thing in 2024!
Pete had a hugely successful racing career, earning over £300,000 in prize money, which started in Ireland in 2013 before moving across the water to Nicky Richards in 2016. He was a two-time winner of the bet365 listed hurdle at Wetherby, but his biggest win was in the Grade 3 Caspian Caviar Gold Cup at Cheltenham.
Pete is now owned by Wetherby Director Laurence Kirby, and has taken to the hunting field like a duck to water! He loves jumping and Laurence is hoping to do more with him this summer!

RACE DESCRIPTION This is a three mile handicap steeple chase for five-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 0 to 110. In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their official handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far. The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than lower rated rival. As a guide, horses rated 60 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 170

This two miles hurdle race is for four-year-olds only which have not which have not run in any race prior to October 1st, 2023, have not run in a Flat race and have not run in more than three previous hurdle races.

RACE DESCRIPTION This is a two miles and three and a half furlongs handicap steeple chase for five-yearolds and upwards which have been rated from 0 to 125 To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have won a race, been placed twice or raced at least three times in order for the handicapper to gauge the level of form shown. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap In simple terms a horse rated 125 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 120.

RACE DESCRIPTION This is a two miles and three and a half furlongs handicap hurdle race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 0 to 130. Once a horse has qualified for a handicap rating this is regularly reassessed. A below par effort could result in a reduced rating whilst a strong performance could see the rating increased. Occasionally, horses are entered to race before their handicap rating has been reviewed and so to avoid recent winners being un-penalised they are allotted a mandatory penalty – usually 7lb
