Star Ratings Explained
Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:
HHHHH Selected to win the race.
HHHHI Good chance of being placed.
HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims.
HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.
HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
Official BHA Rating
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
Form Guide
The figures in red display the horse’s previous form, with the number denoting finishing position. The number on the right shows the runners most recent result, with abbreviations used also. A layoff from racing is shown with either - or / CD - Course and distance winner; BF - Beaten favourite; F - Fell; B - Brought down; P - Pulled up; R - Refused; S - Slipped up; U - Unseated rider; R - Ran out.
The form guide is provided to help you pick which horse will carry your money in the race. Read the Timeform comment carefully and try to weigh up the horse’s previous runs against the conditions of the race.
FORM ANALYSIS - A CLOSER LOOK
Race Stats are also provided above the race and provide vital information about which trainers are in-form and which horses have made the longest journey to the racecourse today. After you’ve studied the form and made your selection, make sure you get a good position down by the winning post to watch your selection come home in front

RACE ONE
BALLYBEG BOSS shaped with promise on his debut under Rules when second in a Hereford bumper last month and Donald McCain’s gelding appeals as the type to progress now sent over timber Fiston De Becon was well supported ahead of his stable debut and he is expected to take a step forward here along with Lethal Industry, who hit the woodwork at Newcastle on his latest outing. Gift Of Raaj and Harkangel are others to consider
WIN: BALLYBEG BOSS
RACE TWO
DANGER: Fiston De Becon
HitchingJackingcruisedtosuccessatUttoxeteronhishurdlesdebutlastmonth, but, thoughhedemandsrespect, CHOOSETHENEWS edges the vote An impressive winner of a point-to-point last April, the son of Westerner proved far too strong for his rivals at Ayr and a 7lb penalty might not be enough to prevent him from following up Galudon has shown signs of ability in both of his starts over timber and he is fancied to follow them home.
WIN: CHOOSETHENEWS
RACE THREE
DANGER: Hitching Jacking
CORNERSTONE LAD is now 2lb lower than when landing the corresponding event last year and recent performances would suggest Micky Hammond’s gelding is on good terms with himself The nine-year-old is fancied to repeat the dose, possibly at the main expense of Pay The Piper, who could return to form in a first-time tongue-tie. Witness Protection has a lengthy absence to overcome, but he is unexposed over the larger obstacles and it would be folly to write him off
WIN: CORNERSTONE LAD
RACE FOUR
DANGER: Pay The Piper
Hoganville is unbeaten since he arrived at his current yard from Ireland and has built up a good rapport with 7lb conditional Connor Rabbit in the process. However, he’s also gone up 16lb in the handicap after those three wins and faces no easy task as a result. Therefore, it might be worth chancing that PIAFF BUBBLES has more to offer over this trip and Rebecca Menzies’ gelding edges preference on these terms. Heritier De Sivola is another to consider
WIN: PIAFF BUBBLES
RACE FIVE
DANGER: Hoganville
Celestial Horizon faced some stiff tests when trained in Ireland by Joseph O’Brien and has to be respected on debut for new connections, while Rafferty’s Return showed determination to win over 2m5f here on Boxing Day and also offers strong appeal from just a 3lb higher mark. However, IROKO had a few of these in behind when he won over C&D last November and is taken to brush aside a 7lb hike in this company. Foster’sisland completes the shortlist..
WIN: IROKO
RACE SIX
DANGER: Celestial Horizon
This is very much within reach for the unexposed EAST STREET, who counts a win here over hurdles on his profile and he may find more now that cheekpieces are applied. Mackelduff is also considered as he’s unexposed over fences and created a favourable impression when winning at Aintree over timber in October 2021. Camp Belan is another to bear in mind.
WIN: EAST STREET
RACE SEVEN
DANGER: Mackelduff
HIERACHY kept on well to secure a good second on her racecourse debut at Hexham in May and should not be taken lightly back from a break. She is related to some smart types, with her dam a half-sister to a French Listed winner over hurdles, so there may be more to come from her in this contest. Sweet Or Dry makes her racing bow for a reputable stable and is feared ahead of Chosen Hero
WIN: HIERACHY
DANGER: Sweet Or Dry

It was another enthralling day of jump racing here at Wetherby on Tuesday 27th December.
The opener was won by Nigel Hawke- trained The Imposter. Under the steady hands of Tom Buckley, he kept on strongly and ran on to win by a length and a half to the rallying Shoeshine Boy. Despite, not jumping fluently in the early stages as soon as Shoeshine Boy and Great Raffles began to challenge, The Imposter dug deep to go clear.
Joint favourite Juniper justified the strong market for her as the eight-year-old cruised home easily winning by 27 lengths to Gazette Bourgeoise. She made all with Gazette Bourgeoise and Good Luck Charm chasing before the rest of the field weakened significantly. Three in the field were pulled up with Herewegohoney’s jockey reporting she was never travelling. Juniper went so far clear after the 15th jump there was no catching her.
The following race saw the favourite Royal Mogul getting beaten by Dr Richard Newland’s Quick Sharpener by 3 ¼ lengths. Royal Mogul came into this as a worthy favourite winning his prior run and placing in his three before this. However, he was no match for Quick Sharpener as he took a step down in trip which enabled him to be able to chase the leaders Royal Mogul and Hattons Gardens. At three out, Charlie Hammond shook Quick Sharpener up to make a strong challenge, before the last just he took over the lead from the tiring Royal Mogul. Quick Sharpener won with ease to Royal Mogul didn’t have enough to give and narrowly held on for third to Benassi by a neck. Benassi was midfield on the outer for the majority of the race before he made easy headway before 3 out. If this Olly Murphy entry had jumped more fluently, he perhaps would have finished second.
The next race was a much closer contest with 22/1 longshot, Grandads Cottage winning by a neck to the favourite Bass Rock. Bass Rock led shortly before Not What It Seems took the lead until three out when it returned to Bass Rock. At the same time Grandads Cottage who had been at the rear was making headway. After the second out, Bass Rock and Grandads Cottage were battling for the lead, both keeping on well before Grandads Cottage just prevailed.
Start In Front made all and was unchallenged for most of the way. He was going well until he was tested at three out by Morandi Second. He was again tested by Casi Crudo in the closing stages but after a good jump over the last there was a significant distance of 7 lengths between Start In Front and second Casi Crudo, who was no match for the winner.
In the penultimate race of the day saw Malystic win handsomely. He was in touch with the leading pair of Cheddleton and Eclair D’Ainay. These two disputed the lead both heading each other at various points in the race until three out Malystic made headway. The leading pair both attempted to rally to chase Malystic but he was ridden well approaching the last and powered home strongly. Cheddleton, finished second had no extra in the closing stages and the vet reported the gelding finished lame. Third was Eclair D’Ainay who also had no more to give.
The meeting was completed by favourite Tarras Wood winning for Bryony Frost and Paul Nicholls. The gelding was prominent and went second coming into the home turn. He made a strong challenge against the leading group and 2 furlong out he got his headway He hung drastically in the final furlong but won by 2 ¼ lengths to Home Free, who struggled to pace himself throughout.

RACE DESCRIPTION
term ‘maiden’ inspires thoughts of damsels in distress but in horse racing terms it takes on a different meaning. When a horse
referred to as a maiden, be it a colt or a filly, it simply means that they have yet
win a race. Many of the runners aged four-years-old and upwards in this two mile race
still
inexperienced over hurdles and almost certainly improve for the racecourse experience that they gain today. Leading course trainer (17-22): D McCain (11 wins from 116 runners, 9%) runs BALLYBEG BOSS & FFREE PEDRO Trainer-in-form (last 14 days): D McCain (3 wins from 32 runners, 9%) runs BALLYBEG BOSS & FFREE PEDRO Longest Traveller: LETHAL INDUSTRY trained by S Drinkwater, Strensham, 168 miles.
BALLYBEG BOSS made a promising start to his career under Rules when runner-up in a Hereford bumper last month and can go one better now switching to hurdling in an ordinary-looking affair Lethal Industry and Ffree Pedro, a stablemate of the selection, are considered the main threats.

RACE DESCRIPTION This is a one mile and seven furlongs handicap steeple chase for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 0 to 140, it’s also open to horses rated 141 and 142. To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have won a race, been placed twice or raced at least three times in order for the handicapper to gauge the level of form shown. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap In simple terms a horse rated 140 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 135.

In most National Hunt handicaps, there is a minimum weight of 10st 2lb so any horse whose official rating would allocate them less than that still has to shoulder that burden. The horses that fall into this category are said to be racing from ‘out of the handicap’ – usually a distinct disadvantage. RACE DESCRIPTION As the title suggests, a National Hunt Flat Race, or ‘bumper’ as they are more commonly referred, is a race that takes place without any fences or hurdles. Designed for young horses that, it is presumed, will go jumping in time, this race differs from a usual bumper in that it is restricted to those making their debuts this afternoon. Horses that have previously run in a bumper, on the Flat, in hurdle races or steeplechases, or Point-to-Points are barred from entry. This particular contest is restricted to fillies and mares aged four, five and six and will be run over two miles.
