Shan Blue was sent off at 5/2 and there was plenty of rage that he would make a successful seasonal debut. However, he never really got into his usual jumping rhythm and was pulled up early in the race, along with Windsor Avenue and Sporting John.
Aye Right was the pace angle in the race and took the competitive field of 11 at a decent gallop but he was unable to maintain the
gallop and eventually finished fourth.
Heading into the home turn, there was only a handful of potential winners which involved Into Overdrive, Sounds Russian, Fanion D’Estruval and Chantry House but the latter fell when coming to make his challenge four from home.
The highly progressive Into Overdrive backed up his second behind L’Homme Press to come home victorious at 4/1. A very gutsy performance from start to finish, he fended off the late surge from the fast finishing Sounds Russian who went down swinging off a high mark of 157.

PLAY SMARTER
It’s hard to escape the claims of THE IMPOSTER, who had plenty in hand when bagging another Lingfield handicap last week and he remains unexposed as a stayer. Piaff Bubbles and Great Raffles both arrive here on the back of near misses and are feared most, in that order of preference. Heritier de Sivola also enters calculations and Secret Secret would be a threat if he puts his best foot forward on debut for Neil Mulholland, albeit his profile is rather patchy

To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have won a race, been placed twice or raced at least three times in order for the handicapper to gauge the level of form shown. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap In simple terms a horse rated 110 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 105. four-year-olds and upwards. The majority of handicaps are designed for horses from with a specific ratings band but this
race has no rating restrictions attached to it which allows horses with a higher rating to take part. Even so, the higher rated horses must still concede weight to their lower rated rivals, which tends to make open handicaps very competitive races.

THE BIG DOG has landed a pair of valuable 3m handicap chases in Ireland in recent months and a 4lb penalty may not stop him going in again. A bad mistake did for him in this race 12 months ago but he’s a good jumper in the main and has long left impression this sort of stamina test will suit so he’s narrowly preferred to fellow penalised runner Quick Wave. Truckers Lodge, who was placed in this last year, and The Galloping Bear are next time on the list
