THE BUZZ
by Wetherbee
RACE ONE
PRAIRIE WOLF was far from disgraced in a Grade 2 bumper at Aintree and returned with a good third on his hurdling bow at Uttoxeter He found himself outpaced over 2m, so this step up in trip should suit, and with previous experience on his side, he can score. Learntalot showed a consistent level of form over timber ear lier in the year and is likely to be thereabouts on his reappearance. Autumn Return scored at Market Rasen against her own sex last month, but this requires more.
WIN: PRAIRIE WOLF DANGER: Learntalot
RACE TWO
MOLLY OLLYS WISHES cruised to success in this contest last year and Dan Skelton’s mare is fancied to repeat the dose with conditions set to suit. Martello Sky, who secured a midfield finish in the Mares’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival, appeals as the main danger, ahead of Nina The Terrier, who shaped with promise on her reappearance at Chepstow See The Sea has a bit to find on official ratings, but will be dangerous if able to dictate from the front.
WIN: MOLLY OLLYS WISHES DANGER: Martello Sky
RACE THREE
Indefatigable returns to defend her crown having defeated Proschema (second) and Thomas Darby (fourth) in this last year but although another bold bid appears likely the vote goes to SPORTING JOHN The decision to switch the classy seven-year-old back to timber last season following a couple of below-par efforts in Grade 1 novice chases in his previous campaign paid dividends, and having won fresh before, he could be tough to beat.
WIN: SPORTING JOHN DANGER: Indefatigable
RACE FOUR
A strong renewal for one the season’s first big chases, with BRAVEMANSGAME and Ahoy Se nor locking horns for the fourth time. The latter has the upper hand having won two of those battles, but Paul Nicholls’s seven-year-old looked a top prospect in his first four starts last term and appeared to be over the top by the time Aintree came around. Ahoy Senor took the Towton here in February and signed off his season in impressive fashion at Aintree. Eldorado Allen has a fine record when fresh and can’t be discounted either
WIN: BRAVEMANSGAME DANGER: Ahoy Senor RACE FIVE
SOMEKINDOFSTAR got off the mark at the first time of asking for Charlie Longsdon at Warwick and the 3lb rise for that success is negated by his jockey’s claim. Although Mongol Emperor is having his first start over regulation fences, he has four runs in point-to-points to fall back on for experience and looks to have solid credentials. Dalyotin signed off last season with a commanding win at Sedgefield and any ease in underfoot conditions will only aid his chance.
WIN: SOMEKINDOFSTAR DANGER: Mongol Emperor RACE SIX
A case can be made for plenty of these but none more so than ASHFIELD PADDY, who is only 2lb higher than when winning at Hereford on his most recent outing in March Tango Boy was narrowly denied off this mark at Newbury earlier in the year and he has to be of some interest on his return to action. Others to note are Geryville, Bangers And Cash and Indian Brave
WIN: ASHFIELD PADDY DANGER: Tango Boy
RACE SEVEN
FINDTHETIME completed his hat-trick with an impressive triumph over C&D in February when last seen and a reproduction of that level of form would give him a big chance. Vintage Fizz arrives here on the back of a couple of victories and it would be no surprise to see him go well once again. The unexposed Rocky Man edges out Rafferty’s Return to be the pick of the remaining field.
WIN: FINDTHETIME DANGER: Vintage Fizz

Initially, weight is allocated according to age and sex, before penalties are given to horses that have previously won at this level or above These penalties range from 4lb for a Listed or Grade 3 success to 6lb for a Grade 1 or 2 victory. HISTORY
First ran in 1969, this race was originally named the Wetherby Pattern Chase. It was renamed the Emblem Handicap Chase in honour of the winner of the 1863 Grand National, and became known as the Charlie Hall Memorial Wetherby Pattern Chase in 1978
The race was named in memory of trainer Charlie Hall, and was shortened to it’s current guise in 1990 Bet365 have sponsored the race since 2003
The hugely popular Cue Card won this race in superb style in 2015, and went on to land both the Betfair Chase at Haydock and Kempton’s King George VI on Boxing Day He returned to Wetherby in 2016 but failed to secure the double, being beaten into third place behind the Rebecca Curtis-trained grey, Irish Cavalier, and 2014 winner Menorah.
