Race preview from Weatherbys

The feature on this afternoon’s bumper eight-racecardistheWeatherbysStallion Book Handicap Chase, a 0-140 class 3 eventstagedoveranextended3m1f.

The weights are headed by the 132-rated Pull Again Green, with Fergal O’Brien’s eight-year-olddown1lbforasatisfactory run when third at Worcester last month. That was a stronger race than this and if he stays the longer trip, Liam Harrison’s mount has to be taken very seriously. That was his first chase start since last November and the son of Kalinisi –who looked hugely promising during his novice hurdle season (2021-2022) –remainslightly-racedoverfences.

With Pull Again Green topping the weights, it means that Christian Williams’ Planned Paradise gets in at the foot of thehandicap,despitebeingratedjust110.

Another eight-year-old, he is much more exposed as a chaser but has been in consistentformthroughthesummerand is just 3lbs higher than when successful on good ground at Perth. More will be required here but Jack Tudor’s mount should appreciate going back up in distance.

Get Up Mush. The six-year-old is two from four over fences and looked a useful recruit.

Local trainer Dan Skelton runs two, with brother Harry aboard Get Up Mush The six-year-old is two from four over fences and looked a useful recruit when making

a successful chasing debut at Uttoxeter in June. Now 8lbs higher, he is at his best on good ground and is another who looks sure to appreciate this longer trip. The Getaway gelding has yet to race beyond2m5funderRules.

Skelton’s second runner is Sacre Coeur, who, as usual, is ridden by Tristan Durrell. The grey mare was a winner over 3m½f when trained by Jonjo O’Neill but has raced over much shorter trips for her currentstableandherlastsuccesscame inDecember2023.

Donald McCain’s Presentandcounting hasn’t been in the same sort of form this summerashewasin2023andthetrainer reaches for first-time cheek-pieces in an attempttoreignitethelikable10-year-old. Hehaswon13timesunderRulesandBrian Hughes has aboard for each and every oneofthosewins.

The veteran InnisfreeLad is another who wears cheek-pieces for the first time on hisreturnfrom151days,whilstJimmyThe Digger – just a year younger, aged 11 –also returns from his summer break and bothneedtoreturninbetterform.

Of those reappearing, Castle Robin –who has had a wind-op since running at Sandown in March – is possibly most interesting. Another good novice hurdler, he won three times as a novice chaser and has gone well on the back of a break previously. Down to a mark of 130, his trainer Charlie Longsdon often has his horses wound-up for early-autumn so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the nine-year-oldgowell.

PLAY SMARTER

There could be better to come from SHIBUYA SONG now that she’s faced with a stiffer test and a 7lb rise for her Worcester success looks manageable. The consistent Clararose is next on the list but only just, as Faded Fantasy also makes some appeal having shaped as though stepping up to this trip would be in his favour last time. Champetre is another to consider
