BETTING EXPLAINED

Select your horse. Note their name and saddlecloth number

Choose your bet. ‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are popular types of bet.

‘To win’ is for your horse to come first.

‘Each-way’ is for your horse to come first or to be placed. It’s two bets, so ‘£2 each-way’ = £4 total bet.

Decide the amount – or stake – you are comfortable to bet.

Place your bet. There are different places to bet on course; The Tote, racecourse bookmakers, betting shop or online. Each option offers a different experience.

Collect. Once ‘Weighed-in’ has been announced, present your betting slip and collect any winnings.

Visit www.racingexplained.co.uk for more information
How the experts rate the horse’s chances:
2. BHA rating = the higher the number, the better the horse.

Race preview from Weatherbys

Itisapleasuretobesponsoringthe Weatherbys & Northampton Town FCHandicapHurdleatWarwickthis afternoon, a Class 4 event staged overtwomiles.

The weights are headed by Lemoncello, who makes his stable debutforVenetiaWilliamshereafter arriving from the yard of Hector de Lageneste and Guillaume Macaire. Although not seen since October, thefive-year-oldwasanimpressive seven-length chase winner at Fontainebleau on his last start and had previously bolted up by ten lengths in a four-year-old hurdle at Sable-Sur-Sarthe. The stable has a good record with their French imports and Lemoncello is a halfbrother to a Listed winner, so may have been let in lightly by the handicapperfromanopeningmark of122.

Lemoncello will no doubt appreciate the testing conditions on UK debut.

Bluegrass was a smart performer on the flat when with Aidan O’Brien, chasing home Derby winner Desert Crown in the Dante Stakes at York and rated as high as 106. The son of Galileo struggled with the switch of codes in the latter half of last season though, not always jumping fluency since arriving at Stuart Edmunds’ yard. The five-year-old

showed much improved form when chasing home subsequent Imperial Cup third Jipcot on his penultimate startatHuntingdonthoughandbuilt on that effort when a comfortable winner of a Fakenham maiden hurdlelasttime.Heisup5lbsforthat effort but may just prefer a quicker surfacethanisexpectedatWarwick thisafternoon.

Olly Murphy’s Damarta was three lengths behind that rival when third at Huntingdon, but now benefits froma6lbswingintheweightswhen they meet again. The six-year-old is a strong travelling type but has often been let down in the jumping department. The Olly Murphy stable couldn’tbeinbetterformatpresent, operating at a 35% strike rate over the past fortnight, and he must merit serious respect with Sean Bowen in the saddle chasing the JumpJockeysChampionship.

Nigel Twiston-Davies’ Tommie Gunn got off the mark in fine style on hurdles debut at Southwell back in December, keeping on well to best a next-time-out winner with the pair well clear of the field. The five-year-old didn’t kick on from that performance though and was well beaten on his next two starts but hinted at a return to form when a staying-on third at Newburylasttime.

RACECOURSE DEBUT

9 2023:WILLSBURG (IRE) 4 10 10 SamTwiston-Davies 8-1 (Oliver Signy) 7 ran

Probable S.P’s: 5-2 Kapal Layar(IRE), 9-2 Korus (FR), 7-1 EnglishWillow(GB), 8-1 Rupert’sWish (IRE),JessieJumpJet (GB), 10-1 Cornish Comedy (GB), 25-1 Bold Yeoman (IRE), Dessie Haze (GB), 28-1 Leader Wing (IRE)

KAPAL LAYAR’s sister made a winning debut in bumpers and was later successful over hurdles at this track so, without the benefit of market clues, he might be the one to side with for a shrewd outfit. Several others make appeal on paper but English Willow and Jessie Jump Jet might be the most forward.
