How the experts rate the horse’s chances:

2. BHA rating = the higher the number, the better the horse.

3. Timeform view and TFR rating

4. HORSE’STRAINER &THEIR LOCATION

Look out for the summary of leading course trainers before each race.

5. JOCKEYS

Listen out for any jockeys who are having a successful day.

OTHER USEFUL DETAILS

6. Owner’s colours worn by the Jockey

7. Saddlecloth number

8. Horse’s name

9. Days since the horse last run

BETTING EXPLAINED

Select your horse. Note their name and saddlecloth number

Choose your bet. ‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are popular types of bet.

‘To win’ is for your horse to come first.

‘Each-way’ is for your horse to come first or to be placed. It’s two bets, so ‘£2 each-way’ = £4 total bet.

Decide the amount – or stake – you are comfortable to bet.

Place your bet. There are different places to bet on course; The Tote, racecourse bookmakers, betting shop or online. Each option offers a different experience.

Collect. Once ‘Weighed-in’ has been announced, present your betting slip and collect any winnings.

Raceday preview from Weatherbys

A ten-strong field head to post over 2m4f for ThePaulFerguson’s Jumpers To Follow Handicap Chaseand the weights are headed by the consistent Gold Link for Emma Lavelle. The seven-year-old has been in fine form over fences this summer; an impressive widemargin winner at Stratford back in July, hewasjustdeniedbackatthat coursewhenlastseen.

Gold Link is a real contender under Tom Bellamy from an unchanged mark.

There are two course winners in the field here in the shape of Notnowlinda and Are U Wise To That, and the pair make their chasing debut here. The former, trained by Dan Skelton, won twice overhurdlesinmarescompanylast termand,awinnerofhersolepointto-point start, she should make a seamless transition to the bigger obstacles. Jonjo O’Neill’s Are U Wise To That won a bumper at the track in 2022 and left a good impression when an impressive winner on hurdles debut last term. The sixyear-old struggled to make his presence felt on his next two starts, butitwouldbeofnosurprisetosee himbouncebackonchasingdebut.

Glajou must rate a serious player if inthesameformaswhenlastseen, bolting up by 12 lengths in a similar contestatWorcesterjusttwoweeks ago. Neil Mulholland’s seven-yearoldisamongstthemostexperienced inthefieldbutdoeshavetocontend with an 8lb rise in the weights and has struggled to back up a victory in the past. Seamus Mullins’ Romanor is another with plenty of experience and although three times a winner last Summer, has yet to enter the winners’ enclosure in 2023. His close second last time outatNewtonAbbotoffersplentyof encouragement though, staying on well all the way to the line and only just denied. He drops back in class here and takes a step up in trip; he should go close if repeating that effort.

The talented Lily Pinchin takes the ride aboard Haas Boy for Charlie Longsdon, taking off a handy 3lbs for his chase debut. He failed to recordavictoryinhandicaphurdles last season, and must improve for theswitchtofences.StansTheMan landed a maiden hurdle at Fontwell last term and although appearing out of his depth in the EBF Novice Handicap Final at Sandown, signed off the campaign with a good second at Ffos Las and isn’t taken lightlyunderJamesBesthere.

Raceday preview from Weatherbys

The Weatherbys nhstallions. co.uk Handicap Chase is another intriguing contest, with ten going to post. The weights are headed by chasedebutantStrollOnBy Charlie Longsdon’s six-year-old is yet to record a victory under rules, but did catch the eye when travelling well through a pair of handicap hurdles atHuntingdonandLudlowlastterm. Hedidn’tappeartostayoutthetwoand-a-half mile trip fully last term, and this drop back to two miles shouldsuitthisstrongtravellingsort.

Tikkinthebox is another who has struggled to get his head in front of late, the eleven-year-old’s last victory came in April of 2021. Once rated as high as 127, Jeremy Scott’s gelding has dropped down to a temptingmarkofjust96andabrace ofsecondsinhislasttwostartsoffer plenty of encouragement. Famoso did get the better of that rival last time at Stratford, and got up to win by just a neck in a determined performance.Thereisjusta1lbswing in the weights between the pair, but Matt Shepard’s seven-yearold hasn’t proven to be the most consistent type and must put in another bold effort to hold the form here. Jet Of Dreams was pulled up behind the pair at Stratford, but did record a pair of runner-up finishes priortothatraceandisonewhowill appreciatethequickgroundweare expectingatWarwick.

Ten-year-old Cheer’sDelboy is still amaidenafter29startsunderrules andisstillsearchingforafirstcareer victory. Harriet Dickin’s runner does gowellhereatWarwickthough, and finished second at the course in May behind a next time out winner. Perhaps surprisingly, Monoxide’s sole career victory came at Chelmsford on the level back in 2018andtheeight-year-oldhasyet to taste success since switching to NeillMcCluskey.Hehasunseatedon twoofhislastthreechasestartsand mustironoutthosejumpingerrorsif tobeaseriouscontenderhere.

Sean Bowen takes the ride on Ben Buie for Martin Keighley, he won three of his first four starts of the season last year on quick ground. The nine-year-old has struggled the last twice but has now dropped down to his last winning mark.

Lonimoss Bareliere has been a consistent sort for Rob Summers, and although never a winner over fences, hasnotchedupfoursecond placefinishesin11starts.Thesevenyear-old was a well beaten fourth over this course and distance back in December, and although on a fallingmark, mustracefromoutside thehandicaphere.

PLAY SMARTER

There is a degree of guesswork involved here, with question marks pretty much all round. MONOXIDE’s 0-31 record over jumps hardly sets the pulse racing but he wasn’t disgraced off a higher hurdles mark at Perth last time and could be worth chancing. Though Jet of Dreams misfired in the Stratford race in which Famoso and Tikkinthebox occupied the first two places, he would be a big player if reproducing the form of his penultimate start. Lonimoss Bareliere also has a fighting chance.

Visor worn by No 4. Tongue Strap worn by No 1, 8.

TIMEFORMVIEW Showed little promise in 4 starts over fences last summer and yet to really get going this time either, including back hurdling.

Blinkers, Tongue Strap worn by No 6. Sheepskin Cheek Pieces worn by No 1, 5, 8.

Stewards Note:

POTTLERATH: Following its run on 12/9/2023 it was reported that the horse lost a shoe.

Probable S.P’s: 7-2 Sea The Clouds (IRE), 4-1 Pinnacle Peak (GB), 11-2 Edison Kent (IRE), 8-1 Nickelsonthedime (IRE), Chives (GB), 14-1 Good News (GB), Blakeney Point (GB), Pottlerath (IRE), 28-1 Decoration of War (IRE)

PLAY SMARTER

A 4lb rise for PINNACLE PEAK’s Worcester success looks more than fair given that he pulled clear with the thriving Secret Trix. The autumn seems to bring out the best in Sea The Clouds and he’s another last-time-out winner who still looks nicely treated from his revised mark so he’s second choice ahead of last week’s Worcester runner-up Edison Kent
