As we prepare for our first jump fixture of the 2020/2021 season, I am sure none of us quite imagined six months ago that we would be faced with the prospect of the upcoming jumps season being run in front of empty grandstands with no crowds. What a strange and challenging time we are all experiencing and, for us here at Newbury Racecourse, we feel immensely sad about not being able to welcome you all in person. However, we remain positive that we are able to continue racing behind closed doors, with our ongoing thanks to all the stakeholders and horsemen for their support and patience during this time and what an interesting eight race card we have on offer today; including the Pertemps Network Beginners Steeple Chase won last year by three-time Grade 1 winner, Champ. Our thanks to today’s sponsors, the tote, Pertemps Network and Indzine. Your continued support of Newbury Racecourse is much appreciated, and we look forward to being able to welcome you back in person very soon. To all the owners with runners, we are so sorry we are unable to offer you the full Newbury ownership experience following the latest government restrictions and thank you for your continued support and for running your horse with us. Please make the most of our digital racecard where you will find further details about this season’s tote ten to follow, which launched on 2 November, with some helpful hints on how to select your stable and remember you can join us from home with all races broadcast on Racing TV. Stay safe. Julian Thick Chief Executive

Today’s Tips
12.20 - Neff
Gary Moore’s inmate was progressive last season, leading up to his last run when finishing 14th of 24 runners in the Betfair Hurdle here at Newbury. That race was probably a bit hot, but this youngster has had time to strengthen up since and resumes service on a workable handicap mark of 130. He’s had a wind operation and also has Niall Houlihan claiming a 6lb allowance, which is useful. Neff is the sort to go well fresh and he looks good for a promising run first time out.
1.30 - The Big Breakaway
Colin Tizzard could have a very smart novice chaser on his hands in the shape of the strong and athletic The Big Breakaway, who shaped with tremendous promise in a light novice hurdling campaign last season. The yard thinks the world of him and he’s sure to make it onto quite a few Tote Ten to Follow lists as well. Definitely one to watch today.
2.30 - Third Wind
Third Wind runs for Flat trainer Hughie Morrison and is an interesting prospect in the staying hurdles division this season. He finished 4th behind Sire Du Berlais in the Pertemps Final at Cheltenham in March and hasn’t been seen since. The 6yo shoulders top weight here and has a bit on his plate first time out but should go very well under regular pilot Tom O’Brien.

That was presumably just a pipe-opener, and she’s taken to build on that and gain her third win over hurdles. Tote Ten to Follow
Your guide
Season. Sorted.
Tote Ten to Follow
is back for the National Hunt season and there’s a minimum top prize of £77,000 upfor grabs. To win a share of pot, the task is simple - pick ten horses who will win races throughout the season. Here’s your guide to the ultimate season-long bet. £5 per stable. Guaranteed min. total prize pool of £150,000 including min. 1st place prize of £77,000. Paid entries close 11:00 GMT 14/11/2020. T&Cs apply. UK and ROI Only. 18+ Begambleaware.org
How does Tote Ten to Follow work? To play Tote Ten to Follow, players must select a stable of ten horses that will represent them throughout the National Hunt season. Every time one of their horses wins or places, they earn points for their stable. The stable with the most points at the end of the season takes home the top prize.
Why is the Tote Ten to Follow a great bet? Tote Ten to Follow is a brilliant bet because for just £5 you can have an interest in most Grade 1s across the season. With a 0% take out, all of the money bet into the pool will be shared amongst the winners. There’s a guaranteed minimum of £150,000 in the pool and as well as prizes for the overall winners down to 100th place, there are four monthly prizes worth £10,000 for the most points in December, January, February and March.
How are the points calculated? The better the race, the more points your horse gets for winning:
Grade 1
25 points
Grade 2
20 points
Grade 3
15 points
Listed
12 points
Any other race
10 points
You’ll also get points based on the Tote return for a £1 each-way bet. So, if a horse wins at £6.20 on the win pool and £1.20 on the place, that’s an additional 7.40 points for your stable. As well as the above, there are 25 bonus races you’ll need to target to be in with a chance of winning.
What are bonus races? There are 25 bonus races to target throughout the season. Win a bonus race and your horse will pick up an additional 25 points while there are 12 points on offer for the runner-up.
The bonus races are: Betfair Chase (Haydock), Ladbrokes Trophy (Newbury), Tingle Creek (Sandown), King George VI (Kempton), Welsh National (Chepstow), Savills Chase (Leopardstown), Irish Champion Hurdle (Leopardstown), Irish Gold Cup (Leopardstown), Betfair Hurdle (Newbury), Arkle (Cheltenham), Champion Hurdle (Cheltenham), Queen Mother Champion Chase (Cheltenham), RSA Chase (Cheltenham), Stayers Hurdle (Cheltenham), Ryanair Chase (Cheltenham), County Hurdle (Cheltenham), Gold Cup (Cheltenham), Betfred Bowl (Aintree), Aintree Hurdle (Aintree), Melling Chase (Aintree), Liverpool Stayers Hurdle (Aintree), Grand National (Aintree), Irish National (Fairyhouse), Scottish National (Ayr), Bet365 Celebration Chase (Sandown)
