Race previews from Weatherbys
We are delighted to sponsor three races across the card at Thirsk this afternoon, with the Weatherbys ePassport Handicap split into two equally competitive divisions.
In Division 1 of the seven-furlong contest, John and Sean Quinn’s Highfield Viking is the sole course and distance winner in the field having scored here last April. The five-year-old is a half-brother to connections’ superstar mare Highfield Princess and has now dropped down to that last winning mark.
Arantes Nascimento has been in consistent form since switching to the Gemma Tutty stable this year, finishing inside the top three on all three starts for his new trainer. The four-year-old will bid to snap a losing run that stretches back to October 2023. The step up to a mile perhaps just stretched Saisons d’Or last time but he still finished a good third at Ripon, and he will appreciate this the drop back in distance here having scored at Southwell on his penultimate start.
Two-time course and distance winner Langholm runs in Division 2 of the contest and Michael Dods’ nine-year-old arrives here on an 8lb lower mark than when making all to an impressive victory in this contest last year. Fellow course and distance winners Reputation and Carnival Zain are also set to go to post.
Top-weighted Mereside Madness has been belowpar the last twice but has been given a short break, and a return to the form of his Newcastle victory in February would make David and Nicola Barron’s four-year-old a major player. The lightly raced Twilight Diamond scored on racecourse debut at Wolverhampton back in January for David O’Meara and is the most unexposed in the lineup from a sliding mark of 69.
The penultimate contest on the eight-race card is the six-furlong Weatherbys Global Stallions App Handicap, in which 13 head to post.
John and Sean Quinn’s progressive three-year-old filly Easy Peeler is an intriguing contender dropping down in class following a determined victory at York last time. She remains open to improvement from a 4lb higher mark on just her sixth career start.
Adrian Keatley’s Roberto Caro was a massive eyecatcher at York last time, running on well into fourth as the only horse to get involved from a wide draw, and that effort can be marked up. Tinto was denied just a nose here at the track on his penultimate start when flying home from the rear, and Michael Dods’ nine-year-old returns to Thirsk on the same mark.

THE TIMEFORM VIEW ARANTES NASCIMENTO has made a bright start for the Gemma Tutty yard, posting just about his best effort yet and shaping better than the bare result in the process when third at Chester (7f) 3 weeks ago He can confirm recent promise and resume winning ways with Tom Marquand a very eye-catching booking. Veteran Saisons d’Or is going through a good spell and is feared, whilst The Good Biscuit isn’t one to be writing off either from an easing mark.
TIMEFORM VIEW Cashed in on reduced mark from the front at Southwell (7f) on penultimate start and matched that form from 2lb higher when third of 13 in handicap at Ripon (1m) 28 days ago. Return to this shorter trip looks a plus and he ought to go well again.

THE TIMEFORM VIEW CALAFRIO was behind several of these at Wetherby recently, but she again shaped better than the bare result that day and the return to this course may well have a positive effect given her solid record here. Another big plus is the booking of Oisin Murphy and she gets the nod ahead of Asadjumeirah, who was fourth in that Wetherby handicap Lady of The Garr and Quercus filled the first two places in the same race, but there are reasons to believe that the placings will be different this time
