Betting is quite straightforward and can be fun - for as little as £2. There is no fool proof way of picking a winner; the odds and the racecard can give you a good guide but you can also have as much luck picking your horse by the name or colour of the silks.
1. Betting with the tote - a quick, easy and friendly service. You’ll find tote betting points all around the racecourse and it will give you a better choice of bets with the lower minimum stake of £2. Look at the counters for the tote how to bet guides.
2. Bookies - these are all in front of the Grandstand and take only two betsTO WIN and EACH-WAY The bookies offer ‘odds’ on all the horses and you are best to shop around for the best odds. These are given in fractions, such as 8/1.

Race Description This is a five furlongs handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards fillies and mares which have been rated from 51 to 70. In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their official handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than a lower rated rival As a guide, horses rated 40 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 130.

Race Description Selling Stakes exist as an outlet for connections to sell their horses Any horse that wins a seller, such as this six furlongs contest for three to five-year-olds, is automatically put up for public auction in the Winners’ Enclosure at the end of the race and goes to the highest bidder, so make sure to head that way after the race as the auction is usually well worth seeing.

The weatherbysshop.co.uk Handicap, a Class 5 event over 6f, has attracted a good field of 12 runners in what looks an open-looking contest.
David O’Meara trained the winner of this contest in 2019, and teams up with the same jockey in Daniel Tudhope in search of a second success with Just Janet. The three-year-old filly ran on well last time at Leicester, narrowly denied by just a neck. She is tried in first-time cheekpieces here, but must contend with joint top-weight along with Mount King, Dear Daphne, and Belsito. Mount King is still a maiden but takes a significant drop in trip here after contesting one-mile contests. Tim Easterby reaches for a first-time tongue strap as he looks to take advantage of a sliding mark. George Scott’s Dear Daphne also searches for her first victory here but is seemingly knocking on the door now with a pair of second place finishes from three starts this term, although she has never encountered ground this quick on turf. Belsito looks to be the likely pace angle in the race and looks well worth another stab at the 6f trip based on pedigree, Kevin Ryan’s gelding a full brother to a Group 3-winning miler
High draws have proven to have an advantage over 6f at Thirsk, especially in this contest with all of the last three winners hailing from the top two stalls. Trabajo Detecho, stall 11, scored twice on the All-Weather last term and almost got off the mark on turf at Doncaster on reappearance, a repeat of that effort puts him in the mix. Granny B has been handed stall 12 and will appreciate the quick ground, her best effort coming on good to firm last term when second at Pontefract, but does have to overcome a 248 day break. John Quinn’s other runner, We’renotreallyhere, is seemingly the pick of jockey Jason Hart. The son of Camacho is the only course and distance winner in the line-up, landing a Class 5 event from a 3lb lower mark on his penultimate start despite hanging left on the run to the line Both of his victories have come on heavy ground though, so a quicker surface may not be in his favour here.
The in-form Paul Midgley sends Mrs Trump, who gets in here at the bottom of the weights and looks to overturn a two-and-a-half length deficit with Granny B, now a 2lb pull in the weights since their meeting last term. Joining her at the foot of the weights is Monte Forte for Kevin Ryan, but he was well beaten last time at Catterick and has a big task to overturn the form with the winner We’renotreallyhere. Hardy Angel has proved to be rather inconsistent and has yet to get his head in front, but his third at Pontefract behind a pair of progressive rivals reads well and gives connections hope that he can put it all together
Lupset Flossy Pop was well behind that rival at Pontefract and has shown little this term, but has now dropped down to her last winning mark. Talamanca has an excellent record on the turf, with three wins from five starts, and makes his first start on turf so far this season. He landed a trio of nursery handicaps last term for Richard Spencer and has dropped to a tempting mark, now just 2lbs above his last winning mark.
Joe Ballard WeatherbysRace Description This is a six furlongs handicap race for three-year-olds which have been rated from 51 to 70. To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have run at least three times in a Flat race in Britain, or have run in no more than two Flat races run in Britain and won at least one of them. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap In simple terms a horse rated 70 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 65.

Race Description This is a five furlongs handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 46 to 65. Once a horse has qualified for a handicap rating this is regularly reassessed. A below-par effort could result in a reduced rating whilst a strong performance could see the rating increased. Occasionally, horses are entered to race before their handicap rating has been reviewed and so to avoid recent winners being un-penalised they are allotted a mandatory penalty – usually 6lb

for four yrs old and upwards ¨ Total prize fund £8000 Owners Prize Money. 1st £3303, 2nd £1652, 3rd £826, 4th £413, 5th £206. (Penalty Value £4187.20) Weights raised 1lb and paragraphs 27 to 31 of the Weights and Handicapping Code complied with where applicable.
Race Description This is a one mile and four furlongs handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 56 to 75. Like most handicaps on the flat this race is also open to horses that are rated below that particular band. However, all handicaps stipulate a minimum weight and no runner can carry less than that, irrespective of how low their rating is This is often described as ‘running from out of the handicap’ and is considered a disadvantage
