HOW TO PLACE A BET

Place Your Bets

Betting is quite straightforward and can be fun - for as little as £2. There is no fool proof way of picking a winner; the odds and the racecard can give you a good guide but you can also have as much luck picking your horse by the name or colour of the silks.

Bet In Two Ways -

1. Betting with the tote - a quick, easy and friendly service. You’ll find tote betting points all around the racecourse and it will give you a better choice of bets with the lower minimum stake of £2. Look at the counters for the tote how to bet guides.

STAR RATINGS EXPLAINED

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

Selected to win the race. Good chance of being placed. By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims

Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.

Can be given little or no chance.

Race Description This is a seven furlong handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 81 to 100. In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their official handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than a lower rated rival As a guide, horses rated 40 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 130.

PLAY SMARTER

None of these can be ruled out but the vote goes to SERENE SERAPH who looked to have more to offer when a comfortable scorer at Lingfield last time and can defy a 6lb rise. Hat-trick seeking Cerulean Bay is next on the list ahead of Rhythm Master, Documenting and Persuasion.

Race Description This is a six furlong handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 76 to 95. To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have run at least three times in a Flat race in Britain, or have run in no more than two Flat races run in Britain and won at least one of them. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap In simple terms a horse rated 75 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 70.

Race Description This race is a six furlong classified stakes for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 0 to 50. Unlike in a handicap when a horses rating reflects the weight that they will carry, the weights in this type of race are decided solely on the basis of age or sex. HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 6) (for riders with no more than 3 wins at start of season) for three yrs old and upwards ¨ Total prize fund £6000

Owners Prize Money. 1st £2590, 2nd £1295, 3rd £647, 4th £324, 5th £162. (Penalty Value £2980.20) Weights raised 3lbs and paragraphs 27 to 31 of the Weights and Handicapping Code complied with where applicable.

Race Description The final race this afternoon is a one mile handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 46 to 65. Like most handicaps on the flat this race is also open to horses that are rated below that particular band. However, all handicaps stipulate a minimum weight and no runner can carry less than that, irrespective of how low their rating is This is often described as ‘running from out of the handicap’ and is considered a disadvantage
