EXPERIENCE THE NEXT CHAPTER… THE 2023 CORAL GOLD CUP It gives me great pleasure to be writing to you as we approach one of the most historic races in the jumps calendar, and the first for me as the new Clerk of the Course at Newbury. All of us at Newbury Racecourse are delighted to be teaming up with Coral for a second year, as the title sponsor of the two-day Coral Gold Cup meeting and its highlight the Coral Gold Cup, previously known as the Hennessy Gold Cup and the Ladbrokes Trophy. The ‘Coral Gold Cup’ will be the highlight of the two days with a total prize fund of £250,000 for the 3 mile 1 furlong 214 yard showpiece. Our illustrious history with a roll of honour comprising some of the biggest names in jumping, such as Arkle, Burrough Hill Lad, One Man, Denman, Many Clouds and Native River, and has continued to deliver compelling storylines. Last year’s renewal saw top class handicappers in Le Milos, Remastered, Gericault Roque and Corach Rambler make up the first four home. As we know, Corach Rambler went on to win the Ultima Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, before landing the spoils in the Grand National at Aintree. At Newbury, preparations are well underway for this year’s fixture with over £742,000 in prize money on offer with Friday’s highlight the £60,000 Coral Long Distance Hurdle providing the appetiser to the £250,000 Coral Gold Cup on Saturday. We have a new race for 2023, the Coral Fillies’ Juvenile Hurdle (Listed Race) over 2 miles and half a furlong was previously run at Aintree at the beginning of

December and the £45,000 three-year-old contest will be a great addition to the opening day of the Coral meeting. On Tuesday 21 November we will once again be hosting our annual gallops morning which is open to trainers with potential runners across the two days of the Coral Gold Cup meeting, so please save the date in your diaries. Once again we will be offering a £750 equine travel allowance for any overseas runners, details of which are outlined on the adjacent pages along with the conditions of all races and a breakdown of prize money. We are also thrilled to be hosting The Coral Gold Cup Sale by Goffs after the last race on Saturday 2 December. We are delighted to be able to support Goffs and hope the sale is well supported by vendors and agents alike. Your support has helped underpin the status of the Coral Gold Cup meeting and we look forward to welcoming more of your runners to Newbury as we wish you the very best for the season ahead.
George Hill Clerk of the Course, ghill@newburyracecourse.co.uk

CORAL has kindly sponsored this race and will present a memento for the winning owner, trainer, jockey and groom. In addition a Challenge trophy will be awarded to the winning owner, to be returned to Newbury Racecourse by September 30th next year. A best turned out award will also be presented. A £200 cash prize will be awarded to the stable employee responsible for the best turned out horse. The Newbury Racecourse Executive will also pay a sum of £750 for any horse Starting in this race, which has travelled from outside Great Britain with the express purpose of running in this race. All number cloths to be carried in this race have been sponsored and will carry the name/logo of CORAL. The sponsorship payment of £500 will be distributed equally amongst all horses starting in this race in accordance with paragraphs 24 to 27 of the Stakes and Prize Money Code. This race will be restricted to 24 runners plus two reserves. The two reserves will be nominated as R25 and R26. The procedure for the allocation and operation of the reserves protocol will be as detailed in the notice headed ‘Reserves’ which has been published in The Racing Calendar and which also appears in the important notices following the Standard Conditions on the Racing Bulletin area of the BHA Racing Administration Internet site www.racingadmin.co.uk. stage proves necessary. Trainers are reminded of the provisions of paragraph 41 of the Race Entry Code which require that they must notify the Racing Calendar Office immediately when the decision has been made not to run. This will maximise the list of runners and determine whether the weights will need to be raised. The British Horseracing Authority will modify the Rules of Racing as a consequence of providing two reserves for the Coral Trophy Steeple Chase (Handicap). The penalty referred to in Rule (F)96 will be waived for any horse which is deemed a non-runner by 1.00 p.m. on the day before the race. The British Horseracing Authority has modified paragraph 6 of the Weights and Handicapping Code for the purposes of this race, such that racecourse performances up to and including the Sunday after Closing, may be taken into account. The British Horseracing Authority has also modified the mDeclaration of Jockey section of the Race Entry Code and the Division of Races section of the Race Administration Code for the purposes of this race. THERE WILL BE A PARADE FOR THIS RACE. Horses will be led past the stands before cantering to the start. PLEASE NOTE: A novice horse shall only be qualified to run in this race if it has run a minimum of three times in Steeple Chases in Great Britain, Ireland or France in accordance with paragraph 15 of the Weights and Handicapping Code

KEY CONTACTS
THE CORAL GOLD CUP SALE BY GOFFS
Ahead of your visit, please contact any of the below individuals who will be on hand to assist you with any enquiries.
Newbury are delighted to announce that, following the conclusion of the day’s racing on Saturday 2 December, the Racecourse will host the inaugural Coral Gold Cup Sale by Goffs.
Claire Ricketts Owners and Trainers Liaison T 07768 982 626 E ownerstrainers@newburyracecourse.co.uk
The Coral Gold Cup Sale, to be held in the winners’ enclosure immediately after racing finishes, is a new offsite boutique sale to be added to the Goffs portfolio of select Point-to-Point sales. Newbury previously hosted Goffs offsite sales, prior to the course’s extensive redevelopment, with sales also taking place at locations including Aintree, Punchestown, Sandown and Yorton.
George Hill Clerk of the Course T 07581 119 984 E ghill@newburyracecourse.co.uk
Such offsite Point-to-Point sales have seen many purchases at world-record prices and produced multiple champions on the racetrack. A notable graduate of a similar offsite sale includes the multiple Grade 1 winning Jonbon. Trained by Nicky Henderson, the three-time Grade 1 winning chaser was purchased for £570,000 at Goffs UK Yorton Point-to-Point sale. A previous Goffs sale at Newbury in 2013 achieved a world-record price for a National Hunt horse-in-training at public auction when Un Temps Pour Tout was purchased for £450,000. Tim Kent, Goffs UK Managing Director, announced the new Coral Gold Cup Sale: “We are excited by the opportunities Newbury will offer as the racecourse has undergone extensive redevelopment since our last sale there just under 10 years ago and it now offers facilities that are second to none. Combined with the world-class Coral Gold Cup meeting, which is always attended by so many leading owners and trainers, it is ideally suited to have a sale of this nature, so we will use our extensive knowledge and experience, learned from years of offsite sales, to make this a success.”
