Race Description
This two miles and seven furlongs novices’ handicap steeple chase has been designed for four-year-olds and upwards which are rated from 0 to 105. In most National Hunt handicaps, there is a minimum weight of 10st so any horse whose official rating would allocate them less than that still has to shoulder that burden. The horses that fall into this category are said to be racing from ‘out of the handicap’ – usually a distinct disadvantage.

PLAY SMARTER
The vote goes to AIRTOTHETHRONE, who made a fairly encouraging start over fences at Ludlow and he probably won’t need to improve much on that bare form in order to go close here. Dan’s Chosen came up short in a stronger race than this at Exeter and while it’s slightly disconcerting that he found little at the business end he has to enter calculations. Lazy Sunday got no further than the first fence here a fortnight ago but she shaped well on her chase debut and is best of the rest.
