Last of 9 on sole point start in February and will only be of interest on Rules debut if the market vibes are notably positive TFRHIIII BHAAs the title suggests, novice races tend to be for younger horses that are still learning their way over hurdles or fences, allowing the inexperienced horses to race against each other before graduating to the ranks of the more established horses. This race differs slightly from a standard novice event in that it is restricted to horses that have been specifically bred for National Hunt racing and therefore horses that have previously run on the Flat are barred from taking part. This two miles and 104 yard hurdle race is for four-year-olds and upwards which have not won more than three hurdle races.

While TIMEFORATUNE gave his supporters the occasional fright by wandering/hanging approaching his obstacles at Exeter, he was ultimately an impressive winner and is likely to prove hard to beat under a penalty. Indeed, the 6-y-o is probably capable of a good deal better in light of his smart bumper form, and the addition of cheekpieces looks a good move. Hurdles-debutant Mamoon Star is marginally preferred to Ooh Betty and William of York for forecast purposes.

This is a three miles novices’ handicap hurdle race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 0 to 115. To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have won a race, been placed twice or raced at least three times in order for the handicapper to gauge the level of form shown. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap. In simple terms, a horse rated 115 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 110.
JET OF MAGIC never gave his supporters a moments worry when bolting up on first start for Paul Nicholls at Hereford last week, and with a talented claimer negating the 7-lb penalty, he’s strongly fancied to make it 4 wins from his last 5 outings. Maroochi is in fine order at present so she can chase the selection home, ahead of the hat-trick-seeking I Spy A Diva.

To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have won a race, been placed twice or raced at least three times in order for the handicapper to gauge the level of form shown. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap. In simple terms a horse rated 100 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 95.

The vote goes to MILADYGRACE, who was moving ominously well when unseating rider 5 out on her second chase start at Ludlow where she was returning from a 14-month absence. She is entitled to come on for that run and should go close granted no mishaps here. Lazy Sunday is also open to improvement in this sphere and she is second choice ahead of Stanley Pincombe, while Go As You Please is also worth a second look having slipped to an attractive mark.

Horse welfare is a priority at Taunton Racecourse At every meeting there are 3 specially qualified equine veterinary surgeons appointed to look after the welfare of the horses in action. One vet is present at the start of each race and during the race follows the runners in a vehicle Horses can be attended to in the same time as the Paramedic Teams responsible for treating injured jockeys.
A second vet follows the action from the stands and coordinates the required response to any incidents. In addition, throughout the meeting a close check is kept on all horses, especially those returning after a race. It is standard policy that in the event of a horse requiring veterinary treatment whilst on site, screens will be erected around the horse It is designed to afford the vet and horse some privacy. Please do not assume the worst.
