Race Description
The fourth race this afternoon is a two miles and three furlongs handicap hurdle race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been officially rated 0-130. As in all handicaps on this afternoon’s card the weight that each runner carries is determined by their official handicap rating. In this instance, a horse rated 125 would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 120.

Hard to rule out any but GUERNESEY was edged out only in the dying strides by a subsequent winner at Warwick last week and looks the most persuasive option from an unchanged mark (due to go up 4lb). An Tailliur has been on a roll and remains open to improvement following an early unseat at Cheltenham, while Dargiannini retains potential judged on his exploits for Harry Whittington last season.

Horse Welfare
Horse welfare is a priority at Taunton Racecourse. At every meeting there are 3 specially qualified equine veterinary surgeons appointed to look after the welfare of the horses in action. One vet is present at the start of each race and during the race follows the runners in a vehicle. Horses can be attended to in the same time as the Paramedic Teams responsible for treating injured jockeys. A second vet follows the action from the stands and coordinates the required response to any incidents. In addition, throughout the meeting a close check is kept on all horses, especially those returning after a race. It is standard policy that in the event of a horse requiring veterinary treatment whilst on site, screens will be erected around the horse. It is designed to afford the vet and horse some privacy. Please do not assume the worst.
