WELCOME TO STRATFORD RACES

Welcome to our ‘Spooktacular’ last race day of the season, we would especially like to welcome all the children who have come to enjoy our bouncy castles and take part in the events we have around the course

We also welcome and thank all of the owners and trainers who have runners with us today. This is the last day of our season and once again we have 7 great races I would like to make a special mention and thank our ground staff and the full team here at the course all of whom have had a very trying year. The beginning of the season started with 4 floods and it feels like we have been paddling in water every day since. Despite the conditions they have consistently produced excellent ground and facilities which in turn has produced some great racing which I hope you have all enjoyed.

Next year we start the season on Monday 10th March and look forward to welcoming you all back in 2025. A full list of all our fixtures can be found on the back page of this card

Next year’s annual badge package is now on sale and offers excellent value and includes all our fixtures, all of Leicester's and over 50 reciprocals at other courses around the country. We also have the ‘online’ £10 saving which is available for memberships purchased via our website. Please look on line or phone the racecourse office for further details - www.stratfordracecourse.net

Finally, we are here to provide you with a good day out and we look forward to seeing you all again next year

If you have suggestions, complaints, questions or comments, please contact us at the office: info@stratfordracecourse.net or by telephone: 01789 267 949. We wish everyone a great day’s racing today.

and Becky

HORSE WELFARE

“Racing’s top priority is the safety and welfare of horse and rider”. Like most sports racing carries risks, however, we work to make sure that no death or injury occurs, which could have been prevented. Here at Stratford Racecourse we are committed to minimising risks, dealing quickly and humanely with injuries, and maintaining the highest possible quality of life for the animals in our care. At every meeting we have two specially qualified Equine Vets appointed to look after the welfare of all horses in action There is also a British Horseracing Authority Vet in attendance. During the race two vets follow the action from the centre of the course and can attend to a horse in the same response time as the Paramedic Teams responsible for treating the injured jockeys. It is standard policy that in the event of a horse requiring veterinary treatment whilst on site, screens will be erected round the horse It is designed to afford the vet and the patient some privacy. Please do not assume the worst.

EMERGENCY EVACUATION

In the event of an emergency all persons on the racecourse will be alerted by the following message over the public address system. This is an emergency announcement. Due to circumstances beyond our control, racing has been temporarily suspended Would all patrons please evacuate ALL buildings and make your way across the racetrack to the Red post marker in the Centre of the Course. Police and Racecourse Officials will assist and direct you. Please do not go to any Car Park until you are cleared to do so, because you may hamper the movement of emergency vehicles The message will then be repeated.

BROKEN GLASSES AND BOTTLES

Broken glasses and bottles are dangerous. In the interests of safety and the comfort of others please do not carry drinks on to the steppings of the stand, or the areas adjacent to the parade ring or unsaddling enclosure.

FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY

We would ask all racegoers to refrain from using flash photography whilst on course.

HOW TO BET WITH A BOOKMAKER

1. Pick your Racehorse, look around for the best odds on course, try to proffer the correct stake money for your wager.

2. Ask the Bookmaker for your bet, name the horse, (the bookmaker won’t necessarily know it’s number) Listen to the bookmaker repeat your bet to his clerk, correct bookmaker if he makes a mistake and receive your Betting Ticket as a receipt for your bet.

6. Some course bookmakers have minimum stakes e.g. £1, £5 or £10 but small backers are catered for in the racecourse Betting Shops.

BLAZE A TRAIL STRATFORD

HAT-TRICK HERO HANDICAP CHASE

Today’s Blaze A Trail Stratford Hat-Trick Hero Handicap Chase is run in appreciation of a horse that won three consecutive chases here in the summer of 2022 His owners, Belly’s Heroes, are very grateful to Stratford for allowing a race to be named after him.

Their syndicate, formed in 2017, comprises a group of racing enthusiasts linked by their friendships with Phil Bell, a Regional Director with Arena Racing who oversees Chepstow and half a dozen other courses Their first horse, Cillian’s Well, was trained by John Flint to win four races. In 2021 they sent their next purchase, Blaze A Trail, to John but all was not well to begin with The horse –who lives up to his name by having a big white face and a love of being up with the pace – was initially very jittery and he burst a blood vessel badly in his second start for them

He was given plenty of time to recover and a new training regime was designed to calm him down and reduce the risk of “bursting” recurring. He was pulled up on his reappearance in May 2022, and though his owners feared the worst it transpired that it was just an ordinary respiratory infection His fitness improved and on his sixth start – at Stratford in July 2022 – the application of a hood worked a treat, and to the surprise of many he won at 14/1 He and his regular jockey Connor Brace were developing a great understanding and he won twice more at Stratford in the next five weeks.

After his Stratford hat-trick Blaze A Trail went on to complete a five-timer by winning his next two starts at Fontwell Raised 26 pounds in the weights, he did well to be placed three times from five starts in 2023. This year his enthusiasm has waned and he’s been retired from racing. But he’s gone to a good home and his new owner is more than hopeful of success in his new career eventing

This trip should be within HARRYS HOPE’s range and, with a 6lb rise for her latest success at Exeter easy to swallow, she is taken to complete the hat-trick. Move With The Beat didn’t have the chance to show what he can do over fences on debut in this sphere at the aforementioned course and Emma Lavelle’s charge is next on the list ahead of Smurfette. If Mortens Leam is raring to go he will have a chance, while Macfin is also of interest, despite returning from a lengthy absence.
