Welcome to this glorious September Saturday Race Meeting.

Thank you for joining us this afternoon on such a lovely day in September. Hot weather does create extra work for all of our staff and the teams looking after the horses. We have put extra measures in place to make sure the welfare of the participants is at the forefront.

We would also like to thank all of today's sponsors and owners who support the track and enable us to put on a great day's racing.

We are sorry that the road works continue to delay your journey in and out of the course

The timing and works are out of our control and with all traffic leaving onto the same main road it creates congestion We are trying to manage this but until the works are completed management is difficult. We thank you for your patience.

Our next race meeting is Monday 9th October.

We are here to provide you with a great day out. If you have suggestions, complaints, questions or comments, please contact us at the office via email: info@stratfordracecourse.net or telephone 01789 267949

With best wishes

HORSE WELFARE

“Racing’s top priority is the safety and welfare of horse and rider”. Like most sports racing carries risks, however, we work to make sure that no death or injury occurs, which could have been prevented. Here at Stratford Racecourse we are committed to minimising risks, dealing quickly and humanely with injuries, and maintaining the highest possible quality of life for the animals in our care. At every meeting we have two specially qualified Equine Vets appointed to look after the welfare of all horses in action There is also a British Horseracing Authority Vet in attendance. During the race two vets follow the action from the centre of the course and can attend to a horse in the same response time as the Paramedic Teams responsible for treating the injured jockeys.

It is standard policy that in the event of a horse requiring veterinary treatment whilst on site, screens will be erected round the horse It is designed to afford the vet and the patient some privacy Please do not assume the worst.

HOW TO BET WITH A BOOKMAKER

1. Pick your Racehorse, look around for the best odds on course, try to proffer the correct stake money for your wager

2. Ask the Bookmaker for your bet, name the horse, (the bookmaker won’t necessarily know it’s number). Listen to the bookmaker repeat your bet to his clerk, correct bookmaker if he makes a mistake and receive your Betting Ticket as a receipt for your bet

3. Should your horse happen to win, present your betting ticket to the bookmaker, check your winnings.

4. Check with the bookmaker when placing a bet, the Place Terms. Place Betting, not all on course bookmakers accept each way bets, ie. for a win or a place.

5. In the unlikely event of a dispute after adhering to this procedure, the bookmaker will tell the punter to approach the Ring Official, who will advise the racegoer as to his rights

6. Some course bookmakers have minimum stakes. e.g. £1, £5 or £10 but small backers are catered for in the racecourse Betting Shops.

EACH WAY BETTING

In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting.

•Fewer than 3 runners - all on to win

•3 or 4 runners – 1/5 odds a place 1,2

•5 – 7 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1,2

•8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1,2,3

•Handicaps with 12 to 15 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1,2,3

•Handicaps with 16 to 21 runners (inclusive) – 1/5 odds a place 1,2,3,4

•Handicaps with 22 or more runners – 1/4 odds a place 1,2,3,4

All bookmakers must display on their boards whether they are betting each way or to win only

Today’s first race is a thank you and 80th birthday surprise for Father of four and Grandad to ten, Kieran O’Neill, born a long time ago in Ardboe, Tyrone. He is a brilliant Dad and loves his horse racing, even if he still lacks talent at picking winners!

Have a great day.

The Gordon Field Star Shines Brightly

Novices’ Hurdle

Sport always played a significant part of the great times we all shared as a family.

Football, Speedway, Golf and Horse Racing in particular were passions that our Dad/Husband/Grandad had great enthusiasm for and bring back many happy memories. Our Dad/Husband/Grandad used to love the energy and vibrancy of going to the races which in many ways reflected how he was.

We will all miss his kind and generous nature but could not think of a better way to remember him than with a race in his honour. He would have truly loved it and would undoubtedly after the race have told us that he was going to back the winner whether he backed it or not !!.

His star will always shine brightly for us.

Lee Pollard’s 60th Birthday

Lee has always loved horse racing, but particularly in the latter years has attended lots more race meetings. Stratford is one of his favourite courses, so what better way to celebrate turning sixty, than by sponsoring a race. This is a gift to him from his partner, who will be here with him, friends and family today. We wish you a very Happy Birthday Lee.

A very much missed husband to Marian, father, grampy and friend to many, who was sadly taken from us in February 2014.

Andy spent many happy hours working as a Jockeys Valet and enjoyed racing.

As a tribute to keep his memory alive, his family and friends have rallied round to sponsor this race and many are here today to remember him with much love and affection and enjoy a day at the races.
