Welcome to this Thursday evening race meeting.

The whole team who work here at the course have been very busy this summer and I hope you are able to join me in thanking them for keeping the place looking so fabulous and running smoothly on race days

We would also like to thank todays sponsors and their guests; Hills of Ledbury and the Hitchins family are here celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary and Tom and Nicola Allan got married this afternoon. Congratulations to you all.

Yala Enki will be parading after the 2nd race.

Yala was trained by Venetia to win many races for Clive Hitchins including the Lanzarote hurdle, the Grand National trial at Haydock and he finished 3rd three times in the Welsh Grand National He continued his successful career after moving to Champion trainer Paul Nicholls winning the Portman Cup at Taunton on three consecutive occasions as well as winning at the November meeting at Cheltenham in 2021 Happy retirement Yala!

We are sorry that the road works continue to delay your journey in and out of the course The timing and works are out of our control and with all traffic leaving onto the same main road it creates congestion We are trying to manage this but until the works are completed management is difficult. We thank you for your patience.

Our next race meeting is next Saturday 9th September. First Race 2.34pm

We are here to provide you with a good day out If you have suggestions, complaints, questions or comments, please contact us at the office via email; info@stratfordracecourse.net or telephone 01789 267949

HORSE WELFARE

“Racing’s top priority is the safety and welfare of horse and rider”. Like most sports racing carries risks, however, we work to make sure that no death or injury occurs, which could have been prevented. Here at Stratford Racecourse we are committed to minimising risks, dealing quickly and humanely with injuries, and maintaining the highest possible quality of life for the animals in our care. At every meeting we have two specially qualified Equine Vets appointed to look after the welfare of all horses in action There is also a British Horseracing Authority Vet in attendance. During the race two vets follow the action from the centre of the course and can attend to a horse in the same response time as the Paramedic Teams responsible for treating the injured jockeys.

It is standard policy that in the event of a horse requiring veterinary treatment whilst on site, screens will be erected round the horse It is designed to afford the vet and the patient some privacy Please do not assume the worst.

HOW TO BET WITH A BOOKMAKER

1. Pick your Racehorse, look around for the best odds on course, try to proffer the correct stake money for your wager

2. Ask the Bookmaker for your bet, name the horse, (the bookmaker won’t necessarily know it’s number). Listen to the bookmaker repeat your bet to his clerk, correct bookmaker if he makes a mistake and receive your Betting Ticket as a receipt for your bet

3. Should your horse happen to win, present your betting ticket to the bookmaker, check your winnings.

4. Check with the bookmaker when placing a bet, the Place Terms. Place Betting, not all on course bookmakers accept each way bets, ie. for a win or a place.

5. In the unlikely event of a dispute after adhering to this procedure, the bookmaker will tell the punter to approach the Ring Official, who will advise the racegoer as to his rights

6. Some course bookmakers have minimum stakes. e.g. £1, £5 or £10 but small backers are catered for in the racecourse Betting Shops.

EACH WAY BETTING

In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting.

•Fewer than 3 runners - all on to win

•3 or 4 runners – 1/5 odds a place 1,2

•5 – 7 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1,2

•8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1,2,3

•Handicaps with 12 to 15 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1,2,3

•Handicaps with 16 to 21 runners (inclusive) – 1/5 odds a place 1,2,3,4

•Handicaps with 22 or more runners – 1/4 odds a place 1,2,3,4

All bookmakers must display on their boards whether they are betting each way or to win only

RACE SUMMARY:

There could be more to come from low-mileage 7-y-o GOLD LINK, who looked a big threat to the progressive winner before making a hash of the second-last at Bangor He wasn’t knocked about following that blunder and is very appealing back up in trip off the same mark, returned to the scene of last month’s comfortable breakthrough success. Bagheera Ginge has been knocking on the door and should get his head in front soon enough. He rates the main danger ahead of chase debutant Latino Fling.

“Racing’s top priority is the safety and welfare of horse and rider”. Like most sports racing carries risks, however, we work to make sure that no death or injury occurs, which could have been prevented.

Here at Stratford Racecourse we are committed to minimising risks, dealing quickly and humanely with injuries, and maintaining the highest possible quality of life for the animals in our care At every meeting we have two specially qualified Equine Vets appointed to look after the welfare of all horses in action There is also a British Horseracing Authority Vet in attendance

During the race two vets follow the action from the centre of the course and can attend to a horse in the same response time as the Paramedic Teams responsible for treating the injured jockeys.

It is standard policy that in the event of a horse requiring veterinary treatment whilst on site, screens will be erected round the horse. It is designed to afford the vet and the patient some privacy. Please do not assume the worst.

YALA ENKI

Found by agent Guy Petit in France after winning a French hurdle, he was brought to England by Venetia Williams and purchased by Clive Hitchings. Yala was trained by Venetia to win many races including the Lanzarote hurdle, the Grand National trial at Haydock and he finished 3rd three times in the Welsh Grand National. He continued his successful career after moving to Champion trainer Paul Nicholls winning the Portman Cup at Taunton on three consecutive occasions as well as winning at the November meeting at Cheltenham in 2021. Happy retirement Yala!

Clive and Joan Hitchings

Joan and Clive Hitchings are today celebrating their Diamond Wedding Anniversary (60 years). They have been great supporters of National Hunt and Point to Point racing having amassed an impressive total of over 300 winners. One of their winners, Yala Enki is parading today for one final time. Yala is now retired near Joan and Clive’s home after having won nearly half a million pounds in prize money.
