1. Pick your Racehorse, look around for the best odds on course, try to proffer the correct stake money for your wager
2. Ask the Bookmaker for your bet, name the horse, (the bookmaker won’t necessarily know it’s number). Listen to the bookmaker repeat your bet to his clerk, correct bookmaker if he makes a mistake and receive your Betting Ticket as a receipt for your bet
3. Should your horse happen to win, present your betting ticket to the bookmaker, check your winnings.
4. Check with the bookmaker when placing a bet, the Place Terms. Place Betting, not all on course bookmakers accept each way bets, ie. for a win or a place.
5. In the unlikely event of a dispute after adhering to this procedure, the bookmaker will tell the punter to approach the Ring Official, who will advise the racegoer as to his rights
6. Some course bookmakers have minimum stakes. e.g. £1, £5 or £10 but small backers are catered for in the racecourse Betting Shops.
In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting.
•Fewer than 3 runners - all on to win
•3 or 4 runners – 1/5 odds a place 1,2
•5 – 7 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1,2
•8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1,2,3
•Handicaps with 12 to 15 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1,2,3
•Handicaps with 16 to 21 runners (inclusive) – 1/5 odds a place 1,2,3,4
•Handicaps with 22 or more runners – 1/4 odds a place 1,2,3,4
All bookmakers must display on their boards whether they are betting each way or to win only

RACE SUMMARY:
BEAU BALKO turned a Sandown handicap into a one-sided affair in February, and while conceding a penalty in a fairly competitive novice will be no easy task, he could well be up to the job. Jupiter du Gite has his share of talent but is clearly a very difficult ride and it remains to be seen whether the removal of a hood will help, so Alien Storm is feared most.

“Racing’s top priority is the safety and welfare of horse and rider”. Like most sports racing carries risks, however, we work to make sure that no death or injury occurs, which could have been prevented.
Here at Stratford Racecourse we are committed to minimising risks, dealing quickly and humanely with injuries, and maintaining the highest possible quality of life for the animals in our care. At every meeting we have two specially qualified Equine Vets appointed to look after the welfare of all horses in action. There is also a British Horseracing Authority Vet in attendance.
During the race two vets follow the action from the centre of the course and can attend to a horse in the same response time as the Paramedic Teams responsible for treating the injured jockeys.
It is standard policy that in the event of a horse requiring veterinary treatment whilst on site, screens will be erected round the horse. It is designed to afford the vet and the patient some privacy. Please do not assume the worst.
