‘To win’ is for your horse to come first. ‘Each-way’ is for your horse to come first or to be placed. It’s two bets, so ‘£2 each-way’ = £4 total bet.

Decide the amount – or stake – you are comfortable to bet.

Place your bet. There are different places to bet on course; The Tote, racecourse bookmakers, betting shop or online. Each option offers a different experience.

Collect. Once ‘Weighed-in’ has been announced, present your betting slip and collect any winnings.

NEPTUNE LEGEND arrives at the top of his game, having 3 won times across his last 4 starts, and he can defy a 6lb rise to add another victory to his tally Arry Up could well benefit from the drop to 5f and can pose the biggest threat ahead of Nogo’s Dream.

Today we are remembering and celebrating our dearest Tony Linnett. Among an array of interests, racing was Tony’s great passion, publishing three books on the sport and finishing another just before his death last year. He adored Sandown, particularly Summer afternoons and evenings with Jennie, Celia, Matt and Joe. So, it is fitting to have so many of his family and friends present today who he loved nearly as much as the horses!

Tony would have been honoured (if slightly embarrassed) to have a race run in his name today. And, as a passionate supporter of grassroots ownership, he’d have wished all connections the very best of luck.

We hope everyone at Sandown has a wonderful day, have a flutter and raise a glass to Tony. RIP.

The Martin Densham & Peter Deal Memorial

Maiden Stakes

Martin Densham was a most popular fixture at Sandown Park for more than 30 years. His father, Pat, founded the family Bookmakers firm of SUNDERLANDS in the mid-1940s Martin, for over 30 years, had been a leading member of the Charity Guild of the Nineteen Lubricators. The winning connections of the Martin Densham & Peter Deal Memorial race will receive a perpetual trophy commissioned by the Guild of a solid silver sculpture of a Sunderland Flying Boat, an aircraft flown by Pat Densham during the Second World War, and the inspiration for the business name of Sunderlands Bookmakers.

Peter was a successful racehorse owner with many winners over his nearly 50 years of ownership, to include Make a Stand winning the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham and Blowing Wind the Imperial Cup here at Sandown. Peter was on the Board of URL and then became Chairman of the Raceday Committee at Sandown - a racetrack he loved. Peter was a member of The Guild of the Nineteen Lubricators, along with Martin Densham, whose memory we also celebrate today.

Two great and good men taken from us too soon but who we will always remember with love and the shared laughter.

EUROPEAN BLOODSTOCK NEWS

In an inter-generational clash that was utterly dominated by the three-year-olds, Aidan O’Brien’s Constitution River (Wootton Bassett) maintained his winning sequence with a dominant victory in the 1m2f Gr.1 Eclipse Stakes at Sandown yesterday. Although the seven runners appeared to jump from the stalls in quite a good line Saddadd (Pinatubo) quickly found himself outpaced in last and A Boy Named Susie (Starspangledbanner) was also soon some way off the gallop The strong pace was being forced by the Ballydoyle pacemaker Flushing Meadows (Wootton Bassett), who had slipped seven lengths clear by halfway, with Hawk Mountain (Wootton Bassett) in second, ahead of Gethin (Ghaiyyath), King’s Gambit (Saxon Warrior) and Constitution River As Flushing Meadows came back to the

KAMAWAY remains unexposed in handicaps and, with the form of her recent Salisbury win already franked, is expected to follow up and notch a third win of the season. Morcar arrives in a good form, whilstTawajjah ran a stormer on his return from a lengthy absence last time and would merit serious respect if able to step forward from that.
