EXPERT VIEW

A quick way to see a horse’s past performance. These are its recent finishing positions.

How the experts rate the horse’s chances:

Look out for Letters: C D CD BF

= Has won at this course = Has won over this distance = Has won over this distance at this course = Was a beaten favourite

MORE INFORMATION ON THE FORM / P F U R CO B S r

= New racing season = Missed racing season = Was pulled-up and didn’t finish the race = Horse fell = Rider unseated = Horse refused to race = The horse was forced out of a race by a loose horse = Horse was brought down = Horse slipped = The horse ran around a jump or took the wrong course in a flat race = Disqualified

d Bold form figures = performance in all-weather (Flat) or Point-to-Point (Jump) races

2. BHA rating = the higher the number, the better the horse. 3. Timeform view and TFR rating 4. HORSE’S TRAINER & THEIR LOCATION

Look out for the summary of leading course trainers before each race. 5. JOCKEYS Listen out for any jockeys who are having a successful day. OTHER USEFUL DETAILS 6. Owner’s colours worn by the Jockey 7. Saddlecloth number 8. Horse’s name 9. Days since the horse last run 10. Horse’s age 11. Jockey’s weight (stone and Ibs) 12. The horse’s breeding – father (sire) and mother (dam) 13. Horse’s owner 14. Horse’s breeder 15. Birthplace of horse (outside GB)

BETTING EXPLAINED Select your horse. Note their name and saddlecloth number.

Decide the amount – or stake – you are comfortable to bet.

Choose your bet. ‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are popular types of bet.

Place your bet. There are different places to bet on course; The Tote, racecourse bookmakers, betting shop or online. Each option offers a different experience.

‘To win’ is for your horse to come first. ‘Each-way’ is for your horse to come first or to be placed. It’s two bets, so ‘£2 each-way’ = £4 total bet.

Collect. Once ‘Weighed-in’ has been announced, present your betting slip and collect any winnings.

Ballybreeze didn’t get the chance to show what he could do at Cheltenham on his PLAY SMARTER return and remains of interest, while the selection’s stablemate Hudson de Grugy isn’t taken lightly given his record here.

Probable S.P’s: 5-4 Stay Away Fay (IRE), 13-8 Giovinco (IRE), 4-1 The Changing Man (IRE), 40-1 Conkwell Legend (GB) STAY AWAY FAY deserves plenty of credit for pulling the race out of the fire on his chase debut at Exeter where he rallied to get the better of the re-opposing The Changing Man, having looked held when headed at the third-last. This strong stayer will be very much at home on this stiff track and he is taken to uphold PLAY SMARTER the Exeter form, despite meeting the runner-up on 3lb worse terms. This represents a significant step up in class for Giovinco, but he is unexposed and clearly very promising. TIMEFORM PREDICTION: 1.STAY AWAY FAY (IRE) 2.THE CHANGING MAN (IRE) 3.GIOVINCO (IRE)
