The Sky Bet Sunday Series has been a fantastic addition to the racing calendar, helping to bolster prize money and support racing across a wide range of race types and Sandown Park is delighted to be hosting this year’s finale

There are two specific horses entered in different races today that we recommend you keep an eye on Both horses are eligible to win the £100,000 bonus for winning three races across the Sky Bet Sunday Series this year: Derry Lad, trained by Kevin Coleman in the 5.15pm and Blow

Your Horn, trained by Ian Williams in the 6.45pm We watch on eagerly to see if either of these horses can achieve that all important third win. Should both horses win their races then the £100,000 will be split equally between them

SKY BET SUNDAY SERIES – LEG 6

Sandown Park is delighted to host the final leg of the £1.2m Sky Bet Sunday Series.

It’s all to play for as Derry Lad and Blow Your Horn go for the £100,000 bonus, available to the owners of any horse to win three races of the Series. If both horses win, then the £100,000 prize is shared.

Derry Lad, with Series wins at Hamilton and Pontefract, runs in the Sky Bet Sunday Series Middle Distance Apprentice Handicap at 5.15pm and Blow Your Horn, successful in Beverley and Hamilton Series legs, goes for glory in the Sky Bet Sunday Series Stayers’ Handicap at 6.45pm.

Now in its third year, the six-fixture Series is an industry-wide collaboration between ITV, Racecourse Media Group, Sky Betting and Gaming and the participating racecourses, which showcases the sport in a Sunday twilight slot on ITV and Racing TV during the summer

Stable Staff also have the opportunity to win cash prizes, with a total of £15,000 (£10k, £3k, £2k) to be paid out to the stable staff of the first three trainers in the Series. Richard Fahey’s stable currently leads the standings. In addition, Sky Bet have once again kindly sponsored and offered £250 for the Best Turned Out in each race

2023 has heralded exciting new initiatives, such as the inaugural Jockey Cup, whichhasseenOisinOrr(twice),JoeFanning,ConnorBeasleyandTomMarquand each pocket £10,000 for finishing top rider at the five fixtures to date

Also new for this year, is the partnership with the MND Association, whose Head of Development, Ian Gardner, has been thrilled with how the link-up has gone He said: “I’d like to say thank you to everyone involved with the Sky Bet Sunday Series and the wider racing community, who have helped us raise awareness and funds for investment in research for effective treatments, and ultimately a cure. More than 5,000 people in the UK are living with it any one time but it can be defeated.”

To donate £5, please text MNDRACE to 70085 or visit: justgiving.com/campaign/SkyBetSundaySeries

EQUITY LAW has made a bright start to his career, getting offthe mark at the second attempt before shaping better than the result at Chester last time, again impressing with how he travelled through the race He can resume winning ways with the drop back in trip to suit, though Indication Spirit isn’t taken lightly as she bids for the 4-timer Two Tribes also merits consideration.

2022:NO CORRESPONDING RACE LASTYEAR

Blinkers worn by No 11. Tongue Strap worn by No 3, 12. Sheepskin Cheek Pieces worn by No 7.

Stewards Note:

JUSTICE PROTECOL: Following its run on 22/7/2023 it was reported that the horse ran too freely

BLUELIGHT BAY: Following its run on 15/7/2023 it was reported that the horse was unsuited by the going.

METAL MERCHANT: Following its run on 3/8/2023 it was reported that the horse was denied a clear run.

Probable S.P’s: 9-2 Ouzo (GB), 13-2 Alrehb (USA), 7-1 What’s The Story (GB), 17-2 Island Bandit (IRE), 10-1 Acotango (IRE), Metal Merchant (IRE), 12-1 Shimmering Sands (GB), 14-1 Austrian Theory (IRE), 16-1 Orbaan (GB), 20-1 Indemnify (GB), 28-1 Bluelight Bay (IRE), 33-1 Justice Protecol (GB)

OUZO is reliable and his mark is unchanged from when he finished an excellent second over C&D in June, so he’s the marginal vote to go one better in an open race

PLAY SMARTER

What’sThe Story is lightly raced for his current stable and is going through a good spell, so he’s regarded as the main danger, although Alrehb is handicapped to win if he can match his AW form.

RACEHORSE & JOCKEY WELFARE

The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation. The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials ensure that racecourses delivers these standards. In addition Sandown Park Racecourse employs three veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team. Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment. If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital

So that’s why we’ve created one very simple piece of guidance, to come “dressed to feel your best”. Whatever your tastes, the most important thing when choosing your outfit is, of course, comfort and confidence. So wear what feels right for you and will keep you feeling your best from start to finish, whatever the weather
