Sandown Park Racecard - Friday 16th June

Official Racecard
- £3.00
FRIDAY 16 JUNE 2023 AFTERNOON RACING

Welcome to Sandown Park for a sunny summer afternoon of racing on the turf.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank British EBF, Molson Coors, Beck Interiors and Chasemore Farm for their generous sponsorship today. A special mention should also go to the family and friends of Les Dove as they remember him today and mark that with a memorial race in his honour

We have a really strong card today and one race to keep an eye on is the Chasemore Farm British EBF Maiden Stakes at 2.40pm for maiden two year olds that are EBF eligible. Native Trail debuted his spectacular career in this race in 2021, winning at Group 1 level just two starts later. He went on to take a credible second place at the QIPCO 2000 Guineas against Coroebus in 2022 before winning the Irish 2000 Guineas and later returning to Sandown Park to take third place at the Coral-Eclipse behind Vadeni. We will be watching closely to see if today’s race produces another potential star

The Molson Coors Handicap at 2.05pm is the fifth qualifier for the Jockey Club Grassroots Sprint Series These series have been created to offer increased prize money to horses that typically compete just below the Group or Listed level. To secure a spot in the finals at Nottingham in September, horses must have participated in at least one qualifying race throughout the season A total of 19 qualifying races will be hosted at Jockey Club Racecourses during each series, ensuring ample opportunities for qualification.

Away from the track there is no shortage of food and beverage options to try as you take in the racing from any of the on-course vantage points We have a variety of options located in the Surrey Hall in the Grandstand as well as concession stands throughout the racecourse. Looking ahead we have plenty to look forward to starting tomorrow with Gentleman’s Day, a celebration of all the remarkable men in our lives, featuring a competitive racecard and oncourse entertainment throughout the day. The Coral Summer Festival is just a couple of weeks away beginning with Ladies Day on Friday 7 July followed by the unmissable spectacular Coral-Eclipse Day on Saturday 8 July. We recommend purchasing tickets for all our fixtures well in advance through our website www.thejockeyclub.co.uk/sandown Hospitality packages and restaurant bookings are still available for the Coral-Eclipse Summer Festival but are selling out fast.

I hope that you have a fantastic time at Sandown Park today and wish the horses and their connections the very best of luck

DON’T FORGET OUR NEXT MEETINGSATURDAY 17TH JUNE 2023

GENTLEMEN’S DAY

This entertaining and competitive racecard is supplemented by garden games and indoor entertainment. The highlight of this card is the Listed Scurry Stakes, where Battaash burst onto the racing scene

PLAY SMARTER

It’s hard to escape the claims ofZOUKSTER, who has really clicked since switched to handicaps and the way he went about his business at Goodwood last week suggests that there is more to come. He escapes a penalty for that and is confidently expected to complete the hat-trick. Senesi is also going the right way and she is next on the list ahead of Hat Toss. There wasn’t much between Taritino and Hello Arthur at Yarmouth recently and they are live each-way candidates, too.

PLAY SMARTER

TROOPER BISDEE has the look ofyet another Sir Mark Prescott-trained 3-y-o who will run up a sequence in staying handicaps. Indeed, he stll looked raw when making a successful reappearance at Yarmouth and this further step up in trip is pretty much guaranteed to be the catalyst for further improvement. Lady Rascal also shapes as though this stiffer test will be in her favour and she is second choice ahead of Fair Dinkum.

is race commemorate life of our dear

This race is to commemorate the life of our dear Dad, Grandad, Great Grandad, Brother and friend to many.

Leslie passed on the 8th Sept 2021 at the grand age of 86, he is very much missed. The family decided to name this race in his honour as dear Les loved sport, he was not a man of many possessions however loved his family, horse racing, Chelsea football club, a good pint of Guinness or nice glass of red wine!

Les spent his last few years near his family in Horley, his favourite race course was Sandown Park and many of us over the years have spent a good racing day here with him. We will spend the day remembering dear Les in one of his favourite places with a pint of Guinness and hopefully a winner or two.

The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials ensure that racecourses delivers these standards. In addition Sandown Park Racecourse employs three veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team. Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment.
