I would like to take this opportunity to thank Virgin Bet for their generous support of today’s racing We wish them a thoroughly enjoyable day with us
We have seven races on today’s card, including the feature race, the Grade 1 Virgin Bet Scilly Isles Novices’ Chase This race is one of the most important Novice Chases in the British racing calendar, and often gives an insight to potential winners ahead of the Cheltenham Festival Just last year we saw L’Homme Presse win the race before going on to win the Grade 1 Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase at the Festival Former winners also include three times Gold Cup winner Best Mate and three times Betfair Chase winner, Bristol De Mai.
A special mention should also be given to Dolos, who runs in our third race today for the sixth time having won it three times and finished second twice in the previous five runnings In recognition of this, today’s race has been named the Virgin Bet Dolos
Handicap Chase
Along with the action on the track, off the track we encourage you to enjoy your time with us today whilst exploring the site. You will find plenty of food and beverage options available in Surrey Hall today.
Looking ahead, the action continues with exceptional jump fixtures all the way through to the spring The next fixture is less than two weeks away with Royal Artillery Gold Cup Day on Thursday 16th February where you can join us for an afternoon of celebrations and thrilling racing action, including the feature race, The Royal Artillery Gold Cup. Looking further afield, both our Betfair Imperial Cup meeting and bet365 Jump Finale are fast approaching and are events not to be missed in your spring calendar Tickets for all our meetings are on sale through our website www.thejockeyclub.co.uk/sandown
I hope that you have a fantastic time at Sandown Park today and wish the horses and their connections the very best of luck

Choose your bet. ‘To win’ or ‘each-way’ are popular types of bet.
‘To win’ is for your horse to come first.
‘Each-way’ is for your horse to come first or to be placed. It’s two bets, so ‘£2 each-way’ = £4 total bet.
How the experts rate the horse’s chances:
2. BHA rating = the higher the number, the better the horse
3. Timeform view and TFR rating
4. HORSE’S TRAINER & THEIR LOCATION
Look out for the summary of leading course trainers before each race.
Listen out for any jockeys who are having a successful day.

12:35pm- Gary Moore saddles two here in the Virgin Bet two-mile Novices’ Hurdle. Jamie Moore takes the mount on an interesting French recruit Stenatee. The market should prove informative for this selection and for sure one to keep an eye on. Another former French trained horse Iliko D’Olivate was a comfortable winner for the Paul Nicholls yard last month at Taunton and is expected to come on further again from that run but the question remains on whether he would want a bit more ease in the ground. CHASING FIRE has done nothing wrong as of yet over hurdles, will handle today’s ground and with a possible lack of early pace today, he could get his own way up front and is tipped to continue his winning run under rules.
1:10pm- The Virgin Bet Novices Handicap Hurdle ran over two-miles four-furlongs see’s six runners go to post. Twinjets has had the tendency to jump to his left however it has not stopped him from winning on his last two starts but has to be a slight concern now running in his first handicap over hurdles. Heaven Smart has his chances if his jumping can improve again from his last run, which was on heavy ground at Lingfield before Christmas. I SHUT THAT D’OR looks very interesting since being stepped up in trip. He was a surprise winner last time out at Wincanton and can strike again for Joe Tizzard with Harry Kimber taking off 3lb.
1.45pm- The Paul Nicholls trained DOLOS has won three previous renewals of this race in 2019, 2020 and 2022. Today he runs off 3lb higher than his victory in this race last year but the 10-year-old is still feared even carrying top weight today. Dolos proved no match for Editeur Du Gite and Nube Negra in the Desert Orchid Chase over Christmas but today’s assignment now back in a handicap chase is a less daunting task and should he give a good account of himself today. Haddex Des Obeaux was a romp away winner in a handicap at Warwick last month on heavy ground and a 10lb rise in the weights could still leave him ahead of the handicapper. Shakem Up’Arry is also feared after running a credible 5th on soft ground at Cheltenham and is a consistent horse overall. He steps back to two miles today and should run well off a mark of 139.
2.20pm- The Grade 1 Virgin Bet Scilly Isles Novices’ Chase will have five runners going to post. Gordon Elliott brings over an exciting Novice Chaser in GERRI COLOMBE (NAP). The Irish raider was an impressive winner on soft/heavy ground at Limerick on Boxing Day in a Grade 1 race and beat a couple of nice types that day. Gerri Colombe looks the one they will all have to beat but will face a stiff challenge from Monmiral and Balco Coastal. The later was an easy winner at Kempton on Boxing Day but takes a step up in class here today. Monmiral probably ran into a good one last time out at Cheltenham, in the Dipper Novices’ Chase and was no match for the talented Jonbon at Warwick over 2 miles but jumps soundly in general and is likely to give Gerri Colombe a good test Preference however is for Gerri Colombe to continue his unbeaten streak.
2.55pm- A competitive renewal here of the Virgin Bet Heroes Handicap Hurdle run over three miles. Flight Deck has a tougher ask off top weight today, after going up 7lb in the weights for his win over Christmas at Chepstow but is possibly still well in off a revised mark of 144. Slight preference however is for the David Pipe trained REMASTERED who was an unlucky 2nd in the Coral Gold Cup at Newbury and followed up that good performance with an impressive win over fences at Kempton over the Christmas period. He switches back to hurdling today and can follow up on his four-length Pertemps Qualifier win at Aintree in November.
3.30pm- 14 go to post for the Virgin Bet Masters Handicap Chase ran over three miles. Bangers And Cash is going for a hat-trick of wins for Ben Pauling and could be still well treated now running off 132. Movethechains struggled to make an impression in the Welsh Grand National but may be more suited to this shorter trip. Laskalin was a nice winner on good to soft ground at Ludlow in November after a wind op on seasonal reappearance. He ran a credible third at Newbury last time out, but a few in that race have since disappointed in their next runs. EVA’S OSKAR (NB) stayed on well at Cheltenham in December and showed good form on his seasonal reappearance in the November Meeting at the same venue. Trip and ground should be no issue for Eva’s Oskar and is the tentative choice in this wide-open handicap
4.03pm- A small runner field for the Bumper It’s hard to look past the Paul Nicholls trained WRAPPEDUPINMAY after his 24-length win in a bumper at Exeter. Cool Style may be the best of the newcomers for the Ian Williams yard, but it will be a tough task to beat the selection. The other Paul Nicholls trained runner; Inthewaterside is likely to improve from his winning debut run but looks the second-string horse of the two Nicholls horses.

DOLOS performed respectably in Graded company last term and the return to this track is firmly in his favour, so he’s marginally preferred to Fast Buck, who won easily at Lingfield last time Red Rookie should be suited by the drop back in trip, so he’s also feared.

The race was the perfect target for Venetia Williams’ gelding who had gone from strength to strength in all of his previous runs.
He faced five rivals, which included Howden Noel Novices’ Chase winner Pic D’Orhy for Paul Nicholls.
Charlie Deutsch vied for the lead with Pic D’Orhy for much of the first circuit but coming to the railway fences L’Homme Presse began to turn the screw and jumped his way to the front. He began to go further clear coming into the home straight and soon there was no questioning who would return victor Pic D’Orhy weakened late on and was eventually collared by Mister Coffey under Nico De Boinville. It was an assertive performance from a very talented horse

Paul Nicholls saddles two highly promising types in WRAPPEDUPINMAY and Inthewaterside, both of whom were successful in bumpers at Exeter on their respective debuts under Rules. The latter possesses plenty of size and scope, and may turn out to be the better long-term prospect of the two, but Wrappedupinmay could hardly have been more impressive in winning his bumper and he is taken to follow up Ten Lengths Tom is appealing on paper and may be the one to follow the Nicholls-trained duo home

The welfare of the sport’s equine and human participants is paramount to British Horseracing All racehorses competing in Britain are stabled at the premises of trainers who are licensed by The British Horseracing Authority. The standards demanded by The BHA of licensed racehorse trainers far exceed those prescribed by animal welfare legislation. The British Horseracing Authority similarly licenses every racecourse, setting high standards for the racing surface and all parts of the course used by competitors, both human and equine. BHA Officials ensure that racecourses delivers these standards. In addition Sandown Park Racecourse employs three veterinary surgeons, whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse. In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the racecourse’s veterinary team Qualified paramedics and doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey If any incident occurs during a race it is routine practice for screens to be erected around the horse or jockey receiving treatment. This is to allow the veterinary or medical personnel to make a safe and accurate diagnosis and so that they may perform any treatment in a private and calm environment If necessary, horses and riders will be transported from the course to receive further treatment at the nearest equine hospital or Accident & Emergency hospital
