THE JOCKEY CLUB WELCOME TO WELCOMES YOU CORAL HERON STAKES EVENING Welcome to Sandown Park for our Jump Season Opener, the first of our nine National Hunt fixtures in the 2022/23 Jump Season. The highlight of today’s card is the Future Stars Intermediate Chase, a Listed contest for horses which, prior to April 25th 2021, had not won a steeple chase. This has been won in the past by some exceptionally talented horses, including Coneygree in 2015, Santini in 2019 and Chantry House in last year’s renewal. As we look ahead to an exciting Jump Season, our next fixture will be the Betfair Tingle Creek Festival on Friday 2nd and Saturday 3rd December, the highlight of our jump racing calendar. The Betfair Tingle Creek is one of the most prestigious races of its kind, where speed and accurate jumping are a must. The race has been won by some of jump racing’s all-time greats, including Altior, Desert Orchid, Moscow Flyer, Kauto Star, Sprinter Sacre and Sire De Grugy. Tickets are now on sale for both days via our website www.thejockeyclub.co.uk/sandown Whilst visiting the racecourse, make sure to check out our fantastic food and drink offerings throughout the Grandstand. If you would like to upgrade to the 1875 Lounge, a chic, light and spacious area with premium views of the racing, please head to one of our enquiry desks for more information. I hope that you have a fantastic day here at Sandown Park and wish all the horses and their connections the very best of luck.

PLAY SMARTER
Given the good form of the Ben Pauling yard this season it might be worth chancing THE COB to revive after a break as this former Grade 2 winner can be made to look well treated on his best efforts. Vorashann has had his latest win boosted and would be a major threat if he can show his best form away from Fontwell. Halo des Obeaux is an unexposed sort from a leading stable so he merits plenty of respect, while Fergal O’Brien’s good record in this race means Tip Top Cat also enters calculations.

Paul Nicholls often does well with French recruits and MATTERHORN is potentially another nice prospect on the back of his third in a listed newcomers hurdle race at Auteuil 18 months ago. Expensive point-recruit Colonel Harry made an encouraging start when second at Uttoxeter so is a likely threat, while stablemates Bold Reaction and Boom Boom are interesting hurdling debutants given their form in bumpers.

PLAY SMARTER
Plenty of depth to this bumper so successfully conceding a penalty won’t be easy for SCHOOL DAYS OVER. That said, he looked a smashing prospect when winning at Market Rasen in the spring so therefore could well be up to the task, with newcomers Immortal and Larchmont Lass feared most before market clues.
