WELCOME TO

CORAL HERONGerard STAKES EVENING Coral Brigadier Evening Welcome to Sandown Park for Coral Brigadier Gerard Evening, the second of our evening meetings this spring. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Coral for its continued, generous sponsorship here at Sandown Park, including all seven races across this evening’s card. With two Group Three’s and a Listed race this evening, racegoers are sure to be in for a treat. It continues to be the highest value evening race meeting in the country. The Group Three Coral Brigadier Gerard Stakes is the feature, with the race dating back to 1953. Originally called the Coronation Stakes, it was renamed the Brigadier Gerard Stakes in 1973 to honour the recently retired champion racehorse Brigadier Gerard. He won 17 of his 18 races, including the Coral-Eclipse which is held here at Sandown Park each season. The Group Three Coral Henry II Stakes is another feature of the evening, a leading trial for the Ascot Gold Cup. The popular Persian Punch was a three time winner of the race, whilst Double Trigger was a two time winner. More recently, Big Orange won the race on the way to his Ascot Gold Cup win in 2017. Looking ahead to the summer months, we have now confirmed our three music nights, featuring Paloma Faith on Wednesday 20 July, Nile Rodgers & Chic on Wednesday 27 July and Simply Red on Thursday 4 August. Tickets for all these fixtures, along with all fixtures until the end of 2022 are available through the Sandown Park website: www.thejockeyclub.co.uk/sandown. With such a fantastic evening of racing in store, I hope that you all have a wonderful time here at Sandown Park, and wish all the horses and their connections the very best of luck. WONDER STARELZAAM did well to get up at Windsor last time on his first turf start for this yard and, unexposed at the trip, is taken to make light of a 4lb rise. The Whipmaster rates an obvious danger on the back of his Lingfield success, while Eton Blue was a good third to the selection at Windsor and also makes the shortlist.

Irish-raider Crispy Cat has the form to ensure Roger Varian’s exciting Kessaar colt doesn’t have things all his own way however. THUNDEROUS had a couple of these in behind when edged out in the Ormonde at Chester and was beaten only by Stradivarius in the Yorkshire Cup 2 weeks ago. That represents the best form so he could prove hard to catch over a trip he should stay. The obvious dangers are Enemy and Quickthorn, who both went close in the Sagaro at Ascot, the former arguably unlucky not to win.

A few in with a shout but a chance is taken on FOX CHAMPION.
