Happy New Year and welcome to Sandown Park today for our first fixture of 2022, Unibet Tolworth Hurdle Day. We have seven fantastic races for you to enjoy, the highlight of which is the Grade 1 Unibet Tolworth Novices' Hurdle. This top tier contest is run over a distance of two miles and is a chance to see some of the country's best emerging talent – horses with an abundance of proven ability but with the potential to compete in the major festivals later in the season. We also have the Unibet 3 Uniboosts A Day Mares' Hurdle, which is a Listed race. This status makes it very appealing to owners and trainers who want their mares to become attractive breeding propositions in the future, not to mention this being a highly valued prize in its own right. Our penultimate race is the Unibet Veterans' Handicap Chase, the Final of the 2021 Veterans Chase Series. The series provides an opportunity for horses aged ten or over and is a hugely popular and well-supported programme. It gives us a chance to see some familiar favourites line up and the race is sure to be incredibly competitive. We are very grateful to Unibet for their generous sponsorship of all seven races this afternoon, their support is greatly appreciated. Through Unibet's sponsorship of today's racing and their support for #GoRacingGreen, an alcohol-free quiet space will be located on the Summer Lawn for anyone who wishes to use it for their comfort during today's race meeting. Away from the racing, we are running an initiative to re-gift unwanted, duplicate and surplus Christmas presents to those in the local community who are in need. We are collecting any items you may wish to donate inside the main entrance foyer and will redistribute them with the help of Christ Church in Esher.
